I visited this location after booking a salon appointment with Nya for a silk press & trim. This was my first trip to the Salon at Ulta, so I took a chance. I have heard good things from a few people about the Ulta Salon experience. I also wanted to redeem all of my birthday month points. You can earn rewards when visiting the salon as well. Mason was very helpful over the phone when confirming my appointment. Upon arrival he greeted me and showed me to the reception desk. A sweetheart! The Salon is a small portion of the back of the store. It is shared space for stylists and can get a bit chaotic with all the foot traffic. Nya was completing a haircut when I arrived. I waited and then met with her for an assessment of my hair. The summer season has brought on high temperatures and my hair has suffered. I was behind on my trim schedule a well with damaged ends. Nya took her time talking to me and getting to know me and my hair goals. She provided education and feedback. She did not try to upsell me on products or services. I had a Olaplaex protein treatment and needed a haircut. She took off a few inches and talked with me about a haircare plan. She really took her time with my blow out and cut. It was nice to talk about new hair products and chat with some of the other stylists. They use the Cecred line here along with Redken, Kenra and Moroccan Oil. I would have enjoyed my appointment a lot more without so many clients and stylists in one small place. This salon would be excellent in a bigger salon space. I loved the diversity with the salon staff and clients who were serviced. It was nice to see African American women with natural hair being serviced by stylists of whom they can relate to. It was confirmed ready for pick up on Nov 23, giving me the date of Nov 29 by 9pm for pick up..I received 2-3 additional emails reminding me to pick up my order by that date and time. Get there Nov 29 5pm, and was told the order would need to be cancelled bc they don't have it in stock. I'm sorry what?! Why did you take my money? Why did you send a confirmation email the next day saying it was ready, and multiple emails giving me the date and time for pick up.. Nov 29, arrived at 5pm to get order only to be told that they don't have it in stock, my order will be cancelled and I'll be refunded. That there's nothing they can do! This isn't ok!! I contacted customer service, they reached out to the escalation department and the escalation department reached out to someone higher.... The workers at the Raleigh location lie! When I walked in no one greeted me or asked if I needed any assistance as I walked through the store. The product that I was looking for was out of stock on the shelf so I walked up to the check out counter to see if the product may be available in the back. The woman I encountered advised me that this location was out of stock. I went today for a cut and color and I was able to make the appointment last night for today, which is very hard to do, especially in Raleigh. I was greeted and asked if I wanted something to drink. They gave me time to go to the bathroom before having my appointment. My hairdresser was very personable and polite during the whole process. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for and my final product exceeded expectations. She also gave advice about adding layers to lessen the heaviness of my hair, which made it look a lot better. She allowed me to ask a lot of questions and was very knowledgeable. One of the stylists even took pictures for me afterward, which was really sweet. I've been here three times for cut and color and it's my favorite place to go. This is a review of the ULTA SALON. My hair was ruined by Cynthia. To preface, when I first started going to the salon my hair was very healthy and thick. It looks nothing like how it was anymore. I visited the salon a few times now. I asked Cynthia, a hair stylist, for a simple hair cut of face framing layers and a trim. She spent all of 1 second looking at the example photo I used, was very rough when washing my hair, and my hair did not look like what I asked for at all. She would not let me see the back of the hair as she went so I could not ask her to change it until it was too late. I went another time for a blowout, which she was also very rough with and left me looking like a crazy lady for the 80's. I spent the remainder of that day trying to fix it, because it wasn't horrible, but was also simply not what I asked for. I also went another time for highlights and again she spent all of 1 second looking at my example pictures and then proceeded to FRY my hair. It is currently so damaged that I have considered cutting the damaged part off but that would mean a buzz cut. Cynthia left the developer in for too long, was very rough during the entire process, and tried to gaslight me into thinking my hair was the right color (it was too red) and that it wasn't damaged (it was literally falling out as I left the salon). I have also spent hundreds of dollars trying to fix the damage but nothing is truly helping it. My hair still falls out and breaks despite all of the bonding repair treatments and products I have bought. I am truly so mad that I spent $200 for highlights that did not look like what I asked for and that I have spent nearly another $300 trying to fix the problem caused by Cynthia. I wanted to write about my experience on 07/16/2022 - Poyner Place Raleigh, NC. I booked an appointment for a style and one for makeup for my wedding day - I wanted to do this as a treat to myself and I thought it would give me a confidence boost. I sat in the chair and explained to the stylist the look I was going for which included waves or soft curls (bohemian style) and showed a few pictures - she barely glimpsed at the pictures and said she had it, literally the most simplest look you could do. Another stylist came behind us and just watched, the stylist began on my hair after asking the other stylist several questions about using flat iron to curl hair and which products to use (had me a little worried at that point, but she explained that she had just started there three weeks ago, but had been doing hair for years). I had let her know I was just going to try to relax and close my eyes since I hadn't slept the night before and wanted to enjoy the experience of someone else doing my hair - it didn't work out that way, she continued to just want to talk about pop stars ad their relationships. The other stylist even came back over and sat next to us, she continued to talk as well and needed explanation of what non-binary means and asking which music stars were gay or not and if they had a penis - this absolutely was not the conversation I wanted to partake in while trying to relax for my wedding or anytime. After over an hour of dealing with unwanted conversation (I do not want to sound rude, but I do feel a large chunk of the conversation was rude), I ended up with tight curls and a half updo, with a bump, they weren't even good curls, I did have a headband, she did place on my head, did not secure it. I then went and had my makeup appointment, makeup was subpar, not what I was looking for and made me feel less confident. I had to cut it short so I could go home and fix my hair and makeup. I started to tear up and knew it was just time to leave. I paid my $128 and rushed home while tying to pull out the curls and 30 bobby-pins of the unwanted updo, all of the those Bobby pins you would think the head band was secure, but no....not even placed to how I showed to place it. She had also said she wasn't finished and sent me to make up. Overall, a sad experience and left without even any excitement on my wedding day. I do hope the conversations change in the salon. So the end of my service was rushed and not completed to my satisfaction. After spending $500+ on a service you'd expect to be satisfied. My hair was not blonde it was orange. Once again I am sitting in the parking lot just waiting closer to that time and sure enough 5 minutes before the appointment the supervisor calls me to cancel the appointment. Opposed to a lot of these other reviews, I had a great experience at this Ulta Beauty. I am new to the area and needed a haircut, badly. I asked a friend native to the area and she said every stylist she's had at this Ulta has been awesome. I have never gotten my haircut anywhere but my hometown so I was a little nervous, but I am so glad I went. I had a wash, cut and style scheduled for $38 and a $10 FIT facial scheduled as well. My appointment was at 2:15 and I was in the chair getting my hair washed by 2:19. My stylist, Laura, was awesome. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair from how it was cut years ago and she got it perfect. Focused hard on just what I wanted. Although I got about 6-7 inches cut off she kept asking "are you sure you're not gonna be mad at me?" I've never been that girl that cries after a haircut because hair grows back. She did a great job and I love my new cut. My esthetician, Zahra, was equally as welcoming and awesome at what she does. She has been doing facials for 27 years and it shows. I have gotten this facial service at other Ulta's and this might be the best. I think I was a little spoiled at my last Ulta Beauty because everytime I got the $10 facial, I got a free black and whitehead extractions. Not sure if this is a new thing implemented, but she did it without asking which came with a $12 upcharge. I wasn't too mad about it because my face needed it. But next time I'll be sure to schedule the $30 30 minute facial because extractions come free with that. My skin was, of course, red after because of the extractions but felt so refreshed. I'd recommend her to anyone in need of some TLC to their skin. The rest of the staff I encountered was very warm and welcoming as well. It was my first service at that Ulta so I got 25% off! I was extremely disappointed in this Ulta. We came here on the 26th so I expected for it to be busy, but it was extreme. I went in there ready to spend a few hundred on perfume and foundation. I left with nothing after 20 minutes of waiting around and standing next to an empty shelf. The employees that were there were crowded with people and I stood next to one for about 5 minutes before giving up because one person was hounding her with questions. With my 15 years of experience in customer service, I try my best to give companies the benefit of the doubt. Meaning, I understand that people have bad days and such but with this particular location, I gave them 3 different opportunities to provide the customer service that I deserve. A few weeks prior to Christmas I drove to this store because the app which I absolutely love stated that they had an item in stock. When I arrived to the store an associate informed me that the app was wrong. So with that, I grabbed a very similar item and asked the manager on duty if I could receive some kind of price match for my inconvenience. She simply stated no. Now, I had 3 other prestigious items that I needed to purchase as well but ended up leaving them on the counter. If the manager on duty would have said sure I'll take off 10 cents I would have been satisfied with that because again, it was an inconvenience to me, right? The second encounter took place a few weeks after as I was standing at the curbside pick up window inside the store and no one acknowledged me for about 4 minutes. It wasn't until someone got in line behind me and then an associate requested to assist. Poor customer service. Lastly, about a week ago I returned to this store to make a purchase. There were 2 associates assisting customers and I was next in line. One associate finishes with her customer and looks to the other associate and says I'm leaving now. Not once did either acknowledge me or say that they would help me. The crazy thing is, pre-COVID I have chatted with other customers shopping in this store and even encouraged them to purchase items that I love to use. And this is how I get treated in return? I deserve to be treated like every other person that walks through their doors. I have come to the conclusion that I will no longer purchase from this store as they need more training on diversity especially with everything going on in this world. Probably the worst hair experience I have ever had. I made an appointment for highlights and cut/style. Cynthia was my assigned stylist, I had never used her before. I have light brown to ash blond hair, naturally. I am beginning to have white/silver hair come in. I did not want this changed. I wanted to embrace my silver coming in. I specifically asked Cynthia for warm colored, chunky highlights on the top layers of my hair. What I got was an all over color that is vaguely purple! She put so many little highlights throughout my hair it washed out my natural color. She also used a blue toner- without asking me. So my hairs looks all one color, darker and with a slightly purple cast. It looks terrible. There are zero visible highlights. I did call to complain. The person I spoke to made a second appt for me. But today Cynthia called and could not have been more rude, loud and unprofessional. She INFORMED me she was available between 3-5 today for us to sit in her manager's office and decide what to do. She also said it was not her or the company's policy to give refunds. The mess she made of my hair cost $200. The cut is good but the color is trash. I will never let her touch my hair again and will file a complaint with their corporate office. read more

I have been coming to this Ulta for the last 3 years and wow has it gone down hill. First off the customer service is just awful. I waited in a long line and the girl named "Precious" yelled "come on" to me and when I got to the counter she didn't say hello or anything. Precious just started ringing up my stuff and was talking to another employee. It cosmetics was having a promotion where you spend $50 you get a free IT gift with purchase. Precious didn't give me my gift or even ask for my rewards number, so I could get my points. I had to bring up the gift and her response was ummm I don't know that you get that. I said yes I do because, I spent over 50$ and if she's going to be working the cash register than she should probably know what current promotions are running. She finally got the gift and threw it on the counter very rude and I asked for her name and when she said Precious I about died. There is NOTHING Precious about this girl what so ever!! Worst customer service. This girl should be kept in the back away from customers. I also have gotten my hair done in the Salon @ Ulta for the past three years. Theressa, Yumi and Ashley all did my hair. They all left and I had another woman named Kim do my hair. She is beyond rude!!!! She kept forcing a hair cut on me and insulting my hair. Saying it's awful. I was there for a root touch up and that was it. She was talking to another employee about a curling iron and said "Can you imagine putting that iron on this hair" like I wasn't even there. She is very unprofessional and I will never return to to this Salon again. I would not recommend her to anyone. The whole time I had to listed to her gossip about her employees. This Ulta is so so nice & could be amazing, it has the potential to make me never go back to Sephora except for this one thing: THE EMPLOYEES DO NOT LEAVE YOU ALONE. At least 9, NINE, let me repeat that: NINE TIMES I was asked today if I needed help with anything during a 30ish minute visit with a girl with a buzzed head asking me 3 of those 9 times if I needed help. THREE TIMES she approached me. That's someone approaching you a little over every 3 minutes. Let that sink in. Literally at no point did I look confused, did I look as if I needed help, nothing. This has happened repeatedly the last 3 times I've been. It's truly so frustrating. Don't get me wrong, they can get packed & I appreciate someone being able to help me & being available but come on. They don't even know the answer to basic questions when they do hone in on you & ask yet again if you need help with anything. One lady come over to us like a missile out for a strike & this one time I actually did have a question (though unrelated to what my mom & I were talking about - like we didn't look like we needed help at all but I figured hey, let's give these girls what they so desperately want) & literally asked a basic question. I asked if they carried a super popular makeup line. The girl sits there & goes "oh I have no idea hold on let me check" then proceeds to get the attention of another "enthusiastic" helper who lets her know that she also has absolutely no idea & give her a minute & she'll check with someone else. Like bruh, I'm sorry but if you're gonna literally harass people at least know what lines you carry. Again, I'm all for help but at at least the guys & girls at Sephora leave you alone. I would much rather have to wait a minute or two for someone to help me than have girls asking me every 3 minutes if I need help when I give no sign that I am in need of help. Also they push so hard for you to open a credit card with them when you check out & to get the rewards card & have seen them make girls feel bad for not wanting a rewards card. I was told yesterday that all Ulta products are buy 2 get 2 free. So I returned today and had four products in hand and the girl told me know it's buy 2 get 1 free. So I went and put one back, and went back to the front and the girl told me no they're not by to get any free that ended last week. I asked her if she had any coupons behind the counter because I can never use my coupons cuz I always buy higher-end products and the coupons are never able to be used and she just Shrugged her shoulders and that was it. I have the Ulta Beauty app & Rewards card. In the app, they had a coupon for $3.50 off of a purchase of $15 or more. The dates on the coupon were valid when I went to shop. I bought 2 hair products that brought my total to $77.22 (well over the $15 threshold). Yet when I presented my coupon at the register, they flat out refused to honor my coupon. I spent over $75 dollars on hair products and they refused to honor their own coupon.... the cashier's excuse was that the coupon doesn't work for "certain prestiges hair products." But the thing is, it doesn't say that anywhere on the coupon when it lists the exclusions at the bottom. Even when I confronted her about my items not being listed under the exclusions, and she was forced to admit that the coupon didn't actually say that my items were excluded, she still refused to honor the coupon. But then she had the nerve to try to get me to sign up for a store credit card after refusing to honor their own valid store coupon. What store doesn't honor their own valid coupons? Horrible customer service. And this is not the 1st time that Ulta has dangled coupons & in front of us customers just to get us in the door & then refused to honor them. While farther away from my house than the Ulta in Cary, this location is larger, brighter, better stocked, and staffed with very helpful people. They carry brands like Fiona Stiles, Lipstick Queen, Tony Moly, Nip + Fab, and Soap & Glory, which are harder to find in-store, as well as familiar brands like Tarte, Urban Decay, Smashbox, Lancome, Buxom, Philosophy, L'Oreal, Revlon, and more. While not every line has the widest array of products, overall the shelves were well stocked with all items offered, testers were available and clean, and unlike other Ulta stores I've shopped in, in general things didn't look like no one gave a damn. The hair accessories section was the only area that seemed understocked to me and the displays by the registers made it a little confusing to determine which way the line should go, but aside from that my visit to this Ulta location was one of the most satisfying I've had in a while. I was looking for a very particular shade of lipstick and while not one of the five (five! yes, 5 as in between four and six! try that at Sephora) employees who offered to help me was able to deliver the holy grail, I did find a similar shade that looked great on me and makes me very happy to wear. Also, talk about that helpful staff! No pressure, no hard sell - just genuinely helpful. The diversity of staff in age, gender, ethnic background and personal style is also appreciated; having someone like you can make customers more comfortable with requests. This location is a bit more of a drive for me, but I have a feeling it's going to be my most frequent destination when I'm in a makeup mood! read more

It's the best!" and "There's no way!, you must be confused" and "are you sure?!?" weren't quite the responses I was looking for. After writing my review Tasha decided to retaliate and go to my jobs website and write a negative review about me- not only have I never seen her outside of getting my brows done, she was never a customer at my place of work. She also made up lies about me in her review. Although this was months ago, at the time I was trying not to escalate the matter and I contacted the management at Ulta to advise them of what she had done... at first they seemed to care and then they stopped contact with me completely and stopped returning phone calls and e-mails. My and I have been getting our hair done here for about 3 years and have had the pleasure of working with both Courtney and Nicole. Both ladies as well as the salon are always professional and punctual. Nicole currently is my hair dresser and I swear she is the best. Just go get a blow out and you will see. I almost hate to say how great she is because she'll get famous when the right person discovers her. Her coloring skills set her apart. She is masterful. Got the absolute worst hair cut I've ever gotten here. I had extremely long hair that I'd been growing for longer than two years. I finally decided to get it TRIMMED, I wanted it to be done well, nothing crazy so I decided to pay more and choose Ulta. I paid 52 dollars to have my hair cut over FIVE inches. After explaining that I had a bad experience two years ago and that's why I've waited so long to get it cut. The girl told me my hair was damaged and in her professional opinion I should get more cut. First of all, I didn't ask for that opinion, second of all I was aware that I had split ends but I told her I wanted to keep my length. Once again she cut it so short that it's just below my shoulders. I sat in my car and cried for two hours, I cried so hard that I gave myself a headache and made myself sick. I didn't ask for a professional opinion and when I'm paying 50-60 dollas what I say and request is exactly what should happen. I will never go to Ulta again, to shop, or to get any kind of service done, ever. If I wanted someone to just take a pair of scissors and chop off all of my length and hair I would've either gone to great clips and save 40 dollars or asked my 13 year old brother to do it. read more
