I have been using this Ulta store for many years, including their makeup and hair services. So when I booked their Every Day Make Up service, I expected the same high level of service. Not so. I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment, and was offered a seat until the make up artist, who was blow drying another client's hair, was finished (I won't use her name because my issue is not with her. It's with the poor customer service the store manger exhibited). After waiting 15 minutes I was approached by The store manager and informed that there was basically no way I would receive my service with who I was booked with because it was taking her longer than expected to blow dry the other client's hair. The manager proceeded to offer the Clinique make up artist...I know she would only use Clinique. I don't use Clinique so I declined. Long story short, I should have been called ahead of time and been informed that she was running late or at the very least when I checked in. Not even an offer to rebook was made. I was perusing for products for quite some time but not one person at 10:30am on a Monday (how busy was it? It wasn't.) even inquired much less looked in my direction. Ridiculous. I called to book a balayage and the woman who answered the phone said she could do it and booked the appointment. I went in and explained that I wanted darker roots and some lighter ends (a balayage!) She then gave me half a head of foil highlights and toner for $170. The highlight color turned out very, very pretty but the whole reason I requested a balayage was to have darker roots and to avoid a line of demarcation! With the foil highlights she gave me, I will now have to return in 4 weeks to cover the regrowth. :-( read more

I have had a few other stylists now, and they have been absolute sweethearts. Ulta is my go-to place when I need a cut and/or color, their prices can't be beat and they always do a wonderful job (especially because I am the worst and I always need my hair done last minute...they always seem to squeeze me in). I can't believe I'm even writing a review for a store, but I feel obligated because this Ulta location is so horrible that I want to warn everyone away. This store is unbelievably disorganized - the displays are such a mess it's almost like NO employees actually look to see that things are clean and orderly! Speaking of the employees - I'm sure they're all very nice people, but the employees at the Ramsey Ulta have essentially no knowledge about cosmetics and barely even know about what's in their store. I saw a customer ask an employee if they carried Origins products and the girl didn't even know what Origins was, or if the store carried it. Are you kidding me? I had to leave without purchasing anything because the store was in such disarray. No employees at the counters, they were just standing around talking to each other while the customers were forced to navigate this store's terrible layout on their own. I had a very difficult stage hair, growing out from a pixie and into a blunt bob. I didn't have the length yet but Deeana managed to give me fabulous blunt bangs and shape my hair into a cute short 20's-style bob. She also gave me an ice cold water and a magazine to read while she blow dried my hair. Deeana is a magician. That is all. read more

Went in store Sunday around noon. Found multiple employees putting on makeup, chatting about their weekends, and the only person offering assistance was the hairdresser in the back with a client. If that wasn't unprofessional enough, I went to the counter with my bag of products minus the lotion they were out of stock on again. There was one register open and 4 girls behind counter chatting. I was excited that one product I was purchasing was on sale for 6.99 from 29.99 only to ring up as no sale, then I was informed that the entire end cap was misplaced. I suggested they honor the price listed, that's when all employees decided to participate in conversation and claim they can not honor price. Although, they all admitted that it was clearly labeled as $6.99. Horrible experience, I will not return to this store and suggest others steer clear as well. read more

Its a bit difficult to figure out how to best choose a star rating, since i can not review the salon and store separately. My previous review for the store alone still stands. Nothing much has changed as far as the store is concerned. However, I went to the salon part of the store this past weekend for the first time, and the following is part of a letter Ive sent to Ulta about the experience. Since the salon is in their store, such an experience lowers the start rating. The salon alone Id give a 1 star, the store about 3 or 4.: I was in Ulta in ramsey, NJ this past saturday, the 26th for an eyebrow waxing. It was around 4pm. What happened according to the waxer, was that the temp in the store was cold and this caused the wax to cool down too quickly for it to remove the hair. on my left eyebrow she had to do the same area a few times to get the hair off, this alone left the skin sore. On the right side she still couldn't get the hair to remove, and then noticed that the wax had become stuck in my eyebrow hair. she couldn't get it out and meanwhile another worker came in and said that a client was waiting for her in the salon, so she could take over my waxing. so that woman left, and the second woman began to try to get the wax off. A third person, a man, came over to look and see if he could help at all. At this point, all they could do was keep rubbing the wax remover and pull out the wax (i believe with tweezers). This was making my skin sore of course, but at this point i figure theres nothing else that can get the wax out, so I'm stuck with waiting for it to rub off. the man said he called the salon manager and she said something about how to pull the wax off correctly. After much pulling and rubbing wax remover on me, all the wax seemed to be off. She gave me (a very dirty) mirror to look in, and my skin around the eyebrows was red and sore. The eyebrows themselves aren't even shaped right, and theres plenty of stray hairs, so the waxing purpose itself pretty much went down the drain. i certainly wasn't going to have them attempt to do anything else. I was there at least 40 mins, which is of course way too long for eyebrows. it ruined my plans for the evening, my ride had to just take me home because i was anxious to wash my face and put some aloe on it. I do want to note that the workers were very nice, there was no attitude or anything like that on their part. they helped as best they could, but i am very angry and upset, because the issue is why did this happen to begin with? Ulta claims to be a professional store and salon that values customer service, and I left with red sore skin by my eyes and misshapen brows. the salon manager and/or whoever was in charge then should most definitely have known that that was not a service they could provide given the temp was too cold. Im not even sure if the temp was the issue or if they just didn't know how to wax. Either way, the situation was VERY irresponsible and injured me as a result. ​I have honestly never heard of anyone having an issue with wax getting stuck in their eyebrows. There was some mention of someone looking for a sample of something to give me in case i got irritated, and that never happened. they just said that of course i didn't have to pay, and i should come back if i felt like the wax wasn't fully gone the next day (really? as if id go back!) and i left empty handed. i didn't ask because i knew i could just use my natural aloe at home. but again, a true professional would have made sure i knew how to care for the sore skin, esp after i noted that i have very sensitive skin. Im doing whatever i can to heal it, and prevent scarring. Of course i can't use any make up on the area until its healed, so I'm stuck walking around with poorly shaped, un colored in eyebrows for probably at least the week. the whole experience was just terrible. i had never used the salon before, but frequented the store. like i said, how could they even begin the service under those conditions? I can't even begin to comprehend what happened there on saturday as i continue to worry about the healing. read more

Would've had a fantastic experience if the employees weren't completely over the top. I'm all for good and attentive employees, but I was in there for a total of 20 minutes and got asked if I needed help 7 times by the same two women. I said multiple times that I didn't need any help, and then they persisted and continued to make me more and more aggravated. She circled around me multiple times and was basically breathing down my neck to get me to talk to her. Then, when the woman INSISTED on trying to get me to purchase an item for a "better deal", she imitated me and made me feel stupid for trying to do my own thing. Like Jesus, have some pride and put yourself in the customer's position sometimes! If someone says they don't need help, they really do not need help. If anything, I actually felt pressured to leave the store after this service. Once again, I do believe that employees should check in on certain customers, but the fact that it was 7 times over the span of 20 minutes and then continued to make me feel dumb is just absurd. read more

This is the only Ulta within 20 miles of me and the items I needed were on sale in-store only. And just like every other time I've been there, the cosmetics ladies are chattering in the back while one poor girl who's obviously new tries to deal with a long line of customers at the register. I can't blame her for not processing the coupon right or forgetting to redeem my points (after two requests) because she was left high and dry out there. I've had a couple great experiences here! The stylists always do a great job, I've set up appointments with several different girls in the salon and have never had a bad haircut. They always do a consultation and make sure they're giving me the haircut I want. The girls in the makeup section are also great! I had a wonderful woman help me in the Clinique section, she recommended the right products for my skin, from my skincare regimen to my foundation and wasn't pushy. She gave me options and then made sure I stuck within my budget. Since I bought the Clinique Anti-redness skincare regimen, my skin has been amazing! Highly recommend going if you need a great, reasonably priced haircut or need advice on skincare or makeup and don't want to deal with the frenzy of a Sephora. read more

This place is a disaster and after being here four times, I am no longer going to go to this Ulta. First of all, when I walk in I don't get acknowledged which is never a problem for me, except the fact today I walked in, was purposely ignored, and a women who looked more "put together" was directly behind me and was talked to. I am young and I did go today on errands in minimal makeup and sweatpants, but I spend $100s here all the time and when I can buy a product at my grocery store, I still buy it at Ulta because I love the online store and the reward points. When I went with my mother, instantly employees flocked to her and asked her for help and gave her recommendations and being there four times, I was never asked if I needed help. Their employees seemed to be trained to purposely help the customers who look like they will spend the most. Secondly, the drugstore area is disgusting. Makeup everywhere, nothing restocked for months, or ever it seems, you have to dig through products to find one unopened, and when I go to check if an item is instock online and it is, I go to the store and can't find it anywhere! I dig through the shelves to find something because none of the products are in it's place and there's other brands mixed in. NYX recently released new items and there was a shelf in the front of the store called "NEW NYX" that was completely EMPTY! These products have been out for a week, and there's no way every single one was sold out, especially since the website stated it was in stock in store. I am now going to go to a further location in a different state just because this Ulta is an awful mess. Ulta, please fix your store and your employees. read more

I went to ulta to get my nails done. I received a gift card as a present and couldn't find any use for it so I used it for my nails. It was my first time getting it done in ulta but I've been a frequent gel polish girl for years. I was upset at how quickly they did my nails and didn't even clean it well. They didn't remove first under my nails or do anything like a typical nail salon would. My nails look less than 30 minutes and they left it under the UV light for less than a minute each. I've been to many other nail salons and they had me leave it in way longer than that. The final outcome was good. Until one nail polish dried weird. I went back the next day and asked for it to get fixed. They did it for free. It was quick yet again. But then by the time I got to my car it was ruined again. It dried weird and I've never had that happen to me. How upsetting what a waste of a gift card. DO NOT GET YOUR OPI GEL POLISH HERE. She did a curly blow dry that resulted in waves which was so nice and different than I usually do. She also was knowledgable about the product ulta sold an recommended a great brow pencil! I first came to this salon when I tried to highlight my box died hair black. Altondra (AJ) was so nice in helping me out and was patient enough to correct my mistake. I am allergic to hair dye and so she was extremely careful. 8 months later I came back to get my balayage lighter and again she worked with me! Absolutely disappointing...I had purchase two items at the Ulta in Paramus and when I walked in that store it was well organized and well stocked. I had to return one of the items a few days later because I had picked up the wrong one. I went to the Ulta in Ramsey and was incomplete shock with the state of the store. It was a hot mess, there were dirty balled up tissues from customers on random shelves, and this store was not stocked. I was in shock and part of me was wondering why corporate wasn't all over the state of this store. This store is in a great location and they get a lot of business, but I'll drive the extra miles to the Paramus location. I'm not a fan of shopping in chaos. I asked the woman who was at the register what happened to the store, why were so many shelves empty, and why was the store in this state. She simply said that for some reason many of their products are backordered. I heard her, but it seems there is a bigger issue here. There is no reason why an Ulta 10 miles away is fully stocked and immaculate. I'll be asking when return to the Paramus store this week. read more

Great selection of products and sales, like buy one get one 50% off. I went to the salon because I needed my hair done but my usual place is a pain to get an appointment for so I went here. Lauren did my highlights and cut my hair and she made sure just what I wanted. She did great with the highlights and when it came time to cut my hair, I'm always nervous with new people taking too much off. She did exactly what I asked for and I told her she could take off more off my layers and she made sure I wanted to. She was super nice as well. It's nothing crazy but it's clean and quiet when I was there and I got 25% off my highlights! When I was there I noticed another girl, Courtney and another stylist, though I didn't catch her name and their clients were very happy with their work as well! read more

There were boxes on some of the aisles looked like it was waiting to be put on the shelves. They were out of so much- the displays were filthy. I usually love shopping at the Ulta in But my last experience with my 15 year daughter was beyond horrifying. My daughters skin started breaking out & being 15 to her it's the end of the world. To make her feel better I suggested we go see someone at Clinique counter & get started with some products. What a disaster. An elderly women Roz was working the counter , as I started to explain my daughters situation she abruptly said with disgust in her voice, There is nothing that can be done for her here , bring her to a dermatologist! I replied we have an appointment , not that it was any of her business . I felt the need to defend my daughter. Needless to say my daughter cried for days on end. That women shouldn't be working in a what supposed to be a feel good environment. She could have kindly suggested some products & that would have been great. I'm giving this 2 stars because 1) I like the actual store and 2) They did a good job on my friend's hair and makeup - otherwise, I'd only give it 1 star. For myself - I am exceptionally disappointed. I showed the girl how I wanted my hair. I literally showed a picture of how I had my hair for another occasion. It wasn't anything complicated. Just all down with curls. It looked terrible. It was so bad that she had to have someone else assist because she could not flatten it the way I need it done. Honestly, when I got home, I ended up styling it myself. By the end of the night, the curls became nothing but waves. As for my makeup....wow.....I'm glad I had a mirror in front of me as she was doing it. It was the worst makeup job I've ever gotten. It stayed on all night, which is all I can say, but ultimately, I hated how I looked. I will not be coming back here. read more

Not happy at all, and no option for zero stars. Just had a color gloss and cut by Courtney (the manager). I had virgin hair with 3-4 little greys. I've used redken eq glosses since high school. I'm very familiar with the shades that best match my hair, depending on whether I'm trying to be a little more ashy or natural. All I wanted was to match my natural med brown hair and get a simple hair cut. After she applied the gloss I noticed my roots were brighter than normal, thought it was just the lighting also it was night time. When I got home I realized I had hot roots! Never has this happened to me on my own. My roots are bright light red brown, while the rest of my hair is a much darker neutral brown. It's so ugly, and my cut looks choppy and uneven. I felt like during the process she was tired or idk. I mean it's a huge mistake, as a manager I can't believe she let me walk out like that! I had sticky reddish dye and shampoo on the back of head and neck, had to Even wash the blow out I just paid for. I'm very disappointed to say the least. I get it it's Ulta salon, but I paid $192 even gave her 20%Tip for crap I now have to fix myself spend more money, and wait until my hair grows out since it's now super short. I'm pissed and want Ulta to give me back my money. Never will I go there again. Won't go back, since I Don't trust her fixing anything. Seriously how do you f up a gloss? Only at Ultas. read more

I'm going to start by saying this was unfortunately the worst experience I have ever had with ulta. A friend of mine and I went it looking for foundation and the nightmare began when she was simply testing different shade foundations to find her shade when a rude older employee walks by and says "too light" rather than stopping to help my friend who clearly needs help. Then my friend and I decided to hunt her down and ask her for help, and when helping my friend the employee said "you need to take care of your skin" which is EXTREMELY insulating. Further more, the employee turned to me and offered to show me how to use bronzer and I replied "I kind of just like to throw my makeup on" (because I am not a huge makeup finatic) she replied "you don't just throw it on!" So rudely. At this point I wish I would have walked away but she insisted on showing us. She tested one of the nars bronzers on us which was nice but a bit out of our price budget so my friend kindly asked if there is any others she would recommend and the grumpy old employee replied " no this is what I use" and if I am not mistaken the employees are supposed to help you, not insult you and make you feel stupid. On top of all that, the next day both my friend and I woke up broken out thinking what could it be from ? When we finally realized that 1. She pulled the brush right out of her apron and didn't clean it. 2. Used a tester that probably millions of people's dirty fingers have swatched and 3. After even using it on me, she did not switch or clean the brush before using it on my friend. The only reason I am giving this one star is because of the nice younger lady who helped us before this insulting older employee. She claims she's the best and said "that's why they need me here once a week" but I think she's better at making customers leaving there self conscious. read more

I have shopped at this Utra location on several occasions and each time I buy things they consistently charge me a penny for the free samples that come with the items ! I have to ask them to remove the penny because it is the principle I am not paying for samples that normally I don't or can't use furthermore it seems to always be an issue and a conversation. Furthermore, every cashier I have had has been incompetent. The store is dirty, messy and disorganized and what attitudes! I have bought merchandise to later realized it was used! I walk out yesterday leaving a 250 dollar sale because of the above issues, Never again Ulta you can keep my platinum status. read more

I like the store it self to buy products even though there is rarely a sale. If I were to say something about their salon , run!!!! They messed my hair up so badly now my hair is fried. This is the only Ulta store I've been to, and I'd be upset to hear if most other Ulta stores were like this. The customer service is TERRIBLE. Most of the employees are incredibly rude, as are the managers. Also, most things tend to be out of stock in the drug store portion of the store. Most products have no security seal on them, so if you're looking for a certain color/shade it makes it difficult to find a product that hasn't been used. Overall, I would avoid this place if I could. I appreciate the discounts and coupons ulta offers, but I just HATE the customer service and lack of products available in this particular location. If there's another Ulta near you, go there. read more
