I spend $200 on Dermalogica today. There's a sign in the store that says free gift with purchase. I asked the cashier for the gift. She just didn't look for it very well and just dismissed me. I've gone to Ulta for years and have never had a bad experience until this appointment. I specifically booked with a master stylist, but my appointment was changed to a regular stylist without me realizing until I arrived. Since I've always trusted this location, I decided to continue with the appointment. The stylist was very kind, and my silk press turned out nicely. Unfortunately, the haircut itself was extremely disappointing. I have curly hair, and the layers were not blended properly at all. The cut created a harsh "shelf" effect, with very obvious disconnected layers that make it difficult to wear my hair naturally curly now. I understand mistakes happen, and I do appreciate the stylist's professionalism and kindness, but textured/curly hair requires experience and proper blending techniques. I wish the appointment change had been communicated more clearly beforehand so I could have decided whether to reschedule. A girl named Favour was very rude; I was trying to pay but couldn't because she was talking to a coworker, and when she finally helped me, she didn't say a word she just pointed at the computer for me to enter my number. She later mentioned my name and the price, but since she was looking away and I didn't hear her clearly, I asked how much it was; she completely ignored me, so I just handed her 20 dollars, knowing the total would be less than that. Customer service at this location is below standards. My sister and I were browsing for new makeup, hair products and perfume. Well, we kept standing around looking for someone to help us. I purposely just stood in the makeup section and no one offered to help. I had to interrupt a conversation between two makeup technicians to get their attention. I asked for a specific concealer and after waiting, was told they didn't have it. Only to walk around and find it myself. Afterwards, I tested a perfume and waited again for assistance. Nothing! I ended up taking the perfume to the counter and requested them to grab one for me. Clearly, this location needs a manager who is manning the floor and ensuring customers are greeted and assisted. Never had a bad experience here until a few days ago. Everyone else was pretty nice and overall helpful except for a British cashier lady -- she started off by asking me if I lived in an apartment or a house??? Last time I checked were at ulta why are you asking me a personal question (she also asked my friend the same question, so she must've been throwing this at everyone who came to her). She was sitting on a stool and was bagging my items which were all on the counter and she asked if I could push some of the items towards her -- I didnt mind, but after everything combined it's just bad customer care. You can't reach a lil more and grab them? When all was said and done I was trying to pay and she said, "would you like 20% off your order," I said no because I knew it was the ulta credit card despite it being disguised as a random discount . She than started asking me why and questioning me, I felt peer pressured even tho I fervently denied -- I figured 4 times would've meant case closed, so I tried to tap my card a couple times on the payment terminal wondering why she hasn't okayed the order so I could pay and leave after that awkward interaction. Only to look up and see her staring at me very oddly. I realized she purposely didn't accept until I caved, which kinda ticked me off. She then tried to reason with me on why I'm not signing up bringing up the amount of my purchase and if I really wanted to spend that much. How bizarre and what a lack of social and work etiquette, I'm not your friend or your hg -- never seen u before in my life, she was yet again asking and brining up personal matters that's outside her payroll. After payment was processed, I was informed that without providing an email address, they cannot provide a receipt because it is sent via email. I passed again knowing that it was not the cashier's fault that her company is run by idiots. She was simply following company procedures, but retailers cannot hold receipts hostage for an email. The trade was completed when Ulta was paid for goods and in California, receipts are required by law to provide proof of purchase and ensure transparency in transactions. Ulta's aggressive methods to collect consumer's personal data for marketing purposes is invasive and illegal. They are no better than modern day pirates trying to get our data. read more

My experience with this particular Ulta Beauty was just OK because I feel like the staff had difficulty managing the customers during a moderately busy time. I visited this store several times, both to purchase items and to pickup online orders I placed beforehand. I usually buy hair care products, facial care and makeup. All the times I visited this store, there were good amount of customers browsing and purchasing (but not super busy at all!) but noticed that the staff were scrambling a lot trying to manage the checkout, consulting and online order pickup. The wait in the line was unusually long and the staff looked and behaved very stressed and unhappy! I do like the products they carry, including many eye lash options and multiple cosmetic brands, so I will probably return to this store in the future! read more

Came inside for an online pickup. It didn't seem busy since there was only 1 cashier. One person was checking out, and one person was in line. I looked around mainly in that aisle with the line for checkout. The store looked like it was a mess. Lots of empty areas on the shelves. I wonder if that's due to staffing or inventory issues. Tons of items all over the place as well. I know it's probably not their fault and due to the people shopping. It was a pretty quick trip. I'm trying not to shop unless I need anything. When I got to the front, he took me closer to the door. He checked my email with the barcode and checked my ID. Before I left, he made me open the package (sealed in a bag with a sticker) to make sure it was the correct item. Inside the bag was my item, but the plastic on the box was barely holding on, so one of the items inside was not in place. Online pickups have been so easy these days. Super easy here as well, so I would recommend for online pickup. Based off what I saw in that aisle, I wouldn't recommend coming here if you were looking for something specific.
