Figured if I paid professional prices for a trim and silk press, my teen would walk away silky and neat. Well, I'm $159 poorer and the stylist sent my teen away looking like the photo I'm posting. Not silky. Not even styled. I'm quite sure all ULTA will do is post a generic "we're so sorry for your experience" message and leave it at that. Which is why I'm posting the photo as proof. If you have tighter curls that require your at-home wash day routine start with detangling, expect to see a "tangle maintenance" fee added to your Ulta bill. There was no mention of such on the booking site. The stylist didn't explain the fee either when I first sat in the chair, even after I clearly said it was my first time ever trying Ulta's salon services bc I didn't think they did textured hair (& do it well). The stylist still didn't advise me about the fee when I said I believe my service would take longer than the 1hr estimated on the booking site, bc I have a lot of hair (past my shoulders when straight) and stylists at other places consistently need 2.5 hrs. The bill was brought to me at the end and it read what it read. No explanation offered for the extra $30 charge. I didn't ask the stylist about it bc her next client was in her chair and I didn't want to discuss my bill over that client's head. I prefer to wear twists once my hair has been stretched for a fluffy twist out - when I was told the twist service is done on wet hair only (meaning no blow dry/stretch option), I went along with it because I didn't want to come across as difficult. The stylist was friendly, gentle in combing through my hair and took it upon herself to redo a twist that didn't meet her own standards, all of which I appreciated. My biggest takeaway here is still that I gave Ulta a chance and now I've confirmed Ulta's setup and culture of its salon services are not for me and my curls. YMMV. read more

I have been coming here for at least 3-4 years and have always had an excellent experience. I've seen multiple stylists who are all amazing, but special shoutout to Ashley who is both SO nice and SO talented. She did my engagement hair which turned out amazing. I'm indecisive but she gives great suggestions on what I would like, and what would work for my lifestyle (I'm bad about stopping back for touch ups, so she gives low maintenance suggestions for me :) Highly highly recommend stopping by to see her! read more

Every time I go to pick up an online order with curbside pickup 20-30 minutes go by and no one comes out. I always have to go in and tell someone which would be fine if I chose in store pickup but if I chose the curbside pickup option I shouldn't have to do that. Also, today they had an Ulta mini brand on the floor and I was super excited to grab it as a gift for my little sister as a birthday present. The price was on the packaging and I thought I got lucky finding the only one. They tried to scan it and it didn't scan and I had to wait for another associate to come up to resolve the issue. Unfortunately they told me that they can't sell it cause it's not in the system yet. I was super bummed. Eh not a fan - Only visited the store not the hairstylist. The staff was not very friendly. I asked where checkout was and she said "front of store". Um There are two doors which do you consider the front. It was actually off to the side near the mall not the parking lot. I came to pick up gel but the price was a bit much $44 vs $24 on Amazon. They DON'T price match. I really want to support brick and mortar stores but that's a huge jump. I really wanted the product so I picked up the smaller container for $20 thinking I can use the $3.50 coupon (off $15) but of course it's excluded (gotta check the website for excluded brands). I ended up buying the product but was not happy about it especially for $4 more I could have gotten over double the size online. I probably wont 'be back. Just not impressed. read more

I find Ulta be a pleasant experience if you're looking to find many of your beauty items in one place. You are able to find the most popular or lower end brand such as Maybelline and Revlon. The most interesting items are in front of the register on a three to four tier stand. It's like going to the supermarket ,while you're standing in line, you pick out two or three pieces of candy because they're inexpensive and you want to munch while you wait. When shopping the items are clearly marked off by brands, the type of items such as lipsticks and the are separate from eyeshadow or mascara etc. While the store is easy to navigate by the signs posted on a Saturday everyone is ringing at the register. I walked around for about 10 to 15 minutes and there is no one to assist you on the floor. There were about 15 customers shopping when I was in the store and I could not find anyone to help me locate the item that I was looking for. Because I really wanted the item I was able to locate it on my own. This works out for me because Ulta generally has a coupon in the Sunday paper that I can use. If I save money then I can look for the item myself, but I would probably spend more money if I had assistance! read more

Today I counted 20 people. I almost walked out. - when you ask the on the floor headsetted people for help they can't hear you because either management or or coworkers are talking into their ears. I had one tell me to hang on today because someone was giving her instructions through her headset. *******. NO! tell the person on the headset to hold on !!!!!!!!!!!! I'm used to receiving a credit card spiel at checkout, but I told the cashier clearly and firmly that I wasn't interested. When the buttons to accept the credit card offer appeared on the screen, she told me "Just hit yes because you were approved." If I was just being absentminded and listened to her, I would have signed myself up for a card offer I explicitly said I didn't want. Luckily, I read the screen and hit the correct "no" button. Upon realizing I was going to reject the offer, the cashier once again pushed the card asking "Well, how often do you shop here?" The answer is not enough, and definitely not anymore. I may consider shopping online where I'm not bombarded with credit card offers, but there's no reason for me not to just shop at another retailer instead where there's a better online and in store experience. If what I've experienced is commonplace, I feel bad for all the folks who have come into the store who have unintentionally set up credit cards. That is such a predatory practice. read more

This Ulta location has potential. It's always well stocked with brands available via Ulta, fairly organized and clean, offers salon treatments and even today I had their skin care specialist offer to assist me with finding a mask suited for my skin needs. However their cashiers are either downright careless, lazy or in a rush to move on the next customer. I have never once been told by a cashier the number of beauty rewards I have available to use (thankfully I check my email) and have to tell the cashier "I think I have beauty rewards available", it's always uncomfortable as if I'm telling them they didn't do their job. Also I usually just sprint through the store, grab the things I need and go however today I had more time on my hands, shopped around and racked up a pretty hefty bill. So I definitely noticed the sign on one of the pricier skin care items that said free gift with purchase. After the transaction was complete I mentioned it to the cashier who seemed bothered I pointed it out and had to refund the item to give the gift. Sorry? Anyway I'm sure I'll be back to this Ulta given its convenient location but I'll be double checking rewards & promos and recommend you do the same. read more

I got some MAC foundation as a gift but it was the wrong shade. So i came to this store to exchange for the right shade (with the receipt within the 60 day exchange time) and the cashier was so rude to me when i asked her where their MAC section was located inside the store. She was super snooty and kept brushing me off and pointed me to the clearance section. When i told her there was no MAC section there, she said with an attitude "well we don't have MAC products anymore." I took my wrong shade of concealer and walked right out. The staff here is honestly terrible. I went to this Ulta because I did not have the time to drive to the Sephora at King of Prussia. I went in looking for a very particular type of brush. I was in there for 20 minutes or so looking around the whole store for brushes and when I was not making progress, I decided to check with a salesperson. She looked me up and down and after hearing my description of the brush, she told me to check the front of the store. I did and I still did not find what I was looking for, so I went back to where the staff was standing around. I asked the same salesperson and her coworker who was standing next to her again. One of them said, "No, we do not have it." I said, "Do you know if any of the stores around here would?" to which she responded with "I honestly don't even know what you're talking about." I showed her a picture and she said, "I'm not sure, you can maybe try Michael's(the arts and crafts store.) I said, "Why would an arts and crafts store have that?" and she said that's probably your best bet.... (The brush that I was looking for all over the store was Yachiyo Brush #27 by NARS. I know Ulta does not carry NARS, but I really only wanted something similar to it as I really needed it that day and did not have the time to go to KOP.) read more

I wish I could give less than one star. I've been to this Ulta several times as it is in my neighborhood mall. I'm sitting here with an Ulta coupon dreading going to this location because I know the staff here will be little to no help in assisting me pick out new makeup. Also, everything I go to buy will be either picked through or out of stock anyway. It has been the last THREE times I've been there. Want plain black UD eyeliner? Gone-you can get purple or green though! On the off chance there is someone there to help, there is a 99% chance they will blow me off or offer a really rushed recommendation. I really wish I could go to this more convenient location, but based on several past experiences, I know it will be well worth it to make the trip to the one in Exton or DE. I had an interesting experience at Ulta, as I went to return a gift I received so I wasn't eyeball deep in "omg look at all the pretty things"! The staff was not really that friendly, and made it clear from the start that the item I was returning was going to be hard for them and was going to take a while to do. They even asked me if it was only going to be a few dollars I'd get back, did I really want to return it? "I'm here to return it, I made the trip to your establishment, so yes, yes, I would, thank you." After we waited a while, two separate times, I finally checked out with my exchange items in hand, two Ulta brand eye shadows, and we made our way out of the store. I was not overly impressed with either eyeshadow once I got them home in the end - I would have done better picking up some Cover Girl...I think for my make up shopping, I'm going to stick to Sephora. Since there is no Sephora in Media, we head to ULTA to play with SOME of the brands we like. Lorac, Urband Decay, Murad, Dermalogica, Alterna, Redken, OPI. The staff is not nearly as knowledgable as you might think - it really depends on the person and a few of the "gals" seem harried and hurried. Also there is ALWAYS a line at check out. (At least on weekdays after 5 PM and Saturday mornings, which is usually when we go. I go to this Ulta because it's close to my home, if not I would avoid going to this store at all cost. Why? They never have anything in stock. Their products are all over the place. After I asked them about if they had any products, they looked annoyed but proceeded to anyway. They told me there wasn't any in the back but they get shipments on Tuesday. I came on Saturday of next week and the shelves look the same as it did last week. Brands from nyx, revlon, Tarte, etc. will be hard to find because apparently most of their products are popular and run out not even a week of receiving shipment. I love ulta as a company for the products they offer, but this location is a mess in terms of customer service. The staff are constantly clustered around the "prestige" section talking to one another. I was last there on a Thursday night, and there were 25 people in line at one point, with only two cashiers working the five available registers. After waiting in line for half an hour, midway through the conversation/transaction, the cashier turns to the other and says, "I guess people aren't in the Christmas spirit anymore." Seriously?? I may not have been at my absolute friendliest after waiting in that line, but I was still being completely polite to her. In any event, totally uncalled for. On my way out, I saw no less than six staff on the floor. The manager walked past the registers several times, stared at the line, and walked away. I get that they need people on the floor to assist customers, but throw a few people on registers for five minutes to kill the lines. They're only talking to each other anyway and rarely actually have product knowledge beyond the most popular prestige brands. I've given it so many chances but this type of stuff has been happening for years at this location, and there's never a "sorry for the wait" or even a smile half the time. I wouldn't dream of letting someone from their salon touch my hair or face. It's honestly worth it to drive thirty minutes to the next nearest store at this point. read more

This is an updated review . Although, I initially had a really bad experience at ulta with a stylist, the salon manager, Melissa, was outstanding. She offered me a full refund for the services I paid for and is giving me a free style done by her. The reason I am giving 4 stars this time instead of 5 is because of the horrendous original experience I had. However, Melissa deserves all the praise in the world. She so sweet and understanding about the bad experience I had and promised me this was not the Ulta Beauty standard and that that would fix this for future appointments. Summer and the wonderful Too-Faced rep (sorry u forgot her name!) helped me match foundations, concealers, find the right primer and brushes- literally everything! I have no complaints..
