I really like this place. We took our car to them for an oil leak that was progressing and leaking more, getting worse. We scheduled with Paul to come in. We were willing to rent a car until they were done, for my wife's commute. The Enterprise nearby had a good daily rate. We didn't need it really and returned it same day because Ultimate Performance was done by about 1 p.m. same day we dropped it off at 8 a.m. Each time we have had business with them we have found their work good and much quicker than our local mechanics in completion time. Sadly, a little over one year later, the vehicle we had hoped to enjoy for many years, needed four new tires, (no big deal) a new alternator, (also no big deal), a new battery, (no big deal) but mysteriously needed a new compressor because the power steering completely stopped working. Upon trying to repair this, my mechanic said this vehicle had been in a wreck and was put together (his words, not mine) with "mickey mouse parts". After coughing up $3,500, the brand-new compressor STILL won't fit into the cavity properly. Thankfully, my mechanic here in Lawndale says it's going to take time, but he has to go to a junkyard to find parts that will assist him in installing the new component. I had hoped this Toyota Camry LE would last at least five years. We are sad. Even the battery, which we had to replace was not in a proper bracket but rather loosely held in its place by ZIP TIES. This place was highly recommended to us by my good friend's cousin Brian down the road. I was told Brian and Randy knew each other for many years. I am pretty disappointed and I'm pretty sure it's way past any sort of buyer's remorse "lemon" rule. Left here disappointed yesterday after paying much more than I expected. Needed an air pump replacement because my '06 Ford Focus wasn't passing smog. I also asked about a few other issues such as the car using much more gas and also curving a bit to the right while driving. I was told air pump would be $165 rebuilt and labor would be $140. Instead, I ended up with a $430 bill. Firstly, they prioritized the smog issue (I would've loved to have the gas usage fixed) and apparently thought I also wanted them to test and pass it. That added another $60. I only wanted the air pump replaced since I intended to have the smog check done at a place that does it for $40. I didn't ask for them to pass it but I guess all the discussion about smog left them with the impression that I wanted it passed there too. They also did the alignment, which I never asked for at all. As mentioned, I DID ask what the steering issue might be and after they said it was probably the alignment, I asked how much they do it for but I specifically NEVER asked to have it done. It also feels like they shrugged off the gas/acceleration issue and said that the car drove fine. I barely had any opportunities to speak to Randy about it. I'm losing 50-70 miles per tank. The labor jumped up to $190, the part went up to $210, and I was never told why. They did say the part would arrive much sooner than expected though because they found one closeby after I was originally told it'd take a week since it'd be coming from Texas. However, I was NEVER told that there'd be a price increase. What I expected to be a final cost of $300-300 turned into $430 due to them misinterpreting my questions. Perhaps it was a mistake to conduct business over the phone but with my car at the shop and me having no reliable way there aside from taking the bus, it was the best option I had without spending more money on an Uber. While I understand this wasn't entirely their fault, I still can't help but feel a little cheated. I wasn't informed of the new final costs and I was never firmly asked "Do you want X and X also done to your car?" I simply asked questions/pricing and they took it as me wanting those additional services when I never actually gave the green light. I didn't even ask why the part cost went up while I was there as I was simply too surprised to think about it as I was looking at the bill. I'm also not a confrontational person and they were polite overall, so I didn't wanna leave on a bad note. Overall they do seem like good guys (hence the reason I chose this location when I could've went with much closer shops) but I'm just confused as to what happened in this case and just thinking about it is frustrating. read more
