I really don't understand how this place is still in business. First, here in 2010 this place does not accept credit/debit cards. That's right - if you drag your crying kids up the street for a treat, you'll wait in line, place your order and be told that they only accept cash or check. I did pay in cash twice before being turned away for attempting to do business in a modern way. The coffee is water. Just water. The town already has Dunkin Donuts (acidic water) and Starbucks (decent, but inconsistent). One would think that an independent coffee shop would focus on brewing good coffee. Really, this place is just a non-corporate Dunkin Donuts - with a payment system that screams 1991. read more

more like the Ultimate Puke! ok, maybe a bit dramatic and bad punnage but unfortunately, as much as I want to support local and independents (although this place basically just feels like a Dunkin Donuts without the pink and orange), this one's just not a viable alternative to Starbucks. Weird aftertaste to the drinks. And way too sweet. But the thing that really irked me is that once I went at the end of the day, 15 min before closing there were maybe a 2 dozen or more muffins, donuts left etc. and they were just throwing them into the garbage!! I ordered a drink as they were doing a shelf transfer from shelf to trash, and the lady at the counter was like, "Do you want anything else?" Hmm, I thought to myself. I was hungry, maybe I want a donut. But were they going to charge me for the donuts they were throwing into the garbage? I guess I'll never know, but I had a feeling they would have (otherwise, wouldn't she have asked me, "hey do you want any donuts or muffins? No charge since we're trying to get rid of them."). Actually, maybe I will go back around closing one of these days and try. If they charge for garbage-destined pastries, the world will know!!! But seriously, you don't just throw that much food away. Bring it home to your friends, or sell it half price the next day, or donate it to something. Andover is moneyed, but seriously I'm pretty sure there's a homeless lady who hangs out in front of town hall now (she has bright pink hair). Donate it?? Something!! I can mayyyybe sort of forgive it two minutes before closing on a Friday night before a Red Sox game but this was not that. read more

Ultimate Perk is worth visiting for the customer service. Managers Elisa and Chandra are community favorites and everyone who works there is friendly and polite. There are a million places to get a cup of coffee in Andover, but there are hardly any places where customers are remembered by name and have their orders ready before they say anything. read more

Update: the owner contacted me shortly after I wrote this post and offered a refund for the coffee. I do appreciate the prompt response and the owner indicated she would address making sure the price is clearly marked or stated in the future. Original post: I just paid $6.69 for a 20 oz Kyoto cold brew iced coffee, which is not even close to worth that much. It was listed as $4.50 on the board which in itself is a lot but I figured it would be amazing, then the barista without double checking that it would be a price hike just goes ahead and makes the drink, then notifies me of the outrageous price. Ridiculous. I stopped in here on a whim thinking I'd give some business to a local place instead of the Starbucks up the street, big mistake. I won't be back! read more

With its small storefront near the end of a main street Ultimate Perk is a bit unpretentious. However, it stacks up well against the larger chain coffee operations. Every day it offers a dozen varieties of flavored java and regular brews at prices cheaper than the larger operations. More significantly, however, it's got a solid selection of baked goods with quality and tast that beats the big guys. Parking (on street) is a bit of an issue, but overall Ultimate Perk is a welcome alternative to Starbuck's, DD's, and is worth a trip when in town. read more

Such a cute little find. Amazing coffee: I have no clue what they put in it to make it so tasty but I will go out of my way to stop at this place anytime I am near Andover, even if I am just driving on 93 or 495. The coffee is that good. I've had a number of the pastries and sandwiches, they are always fresh and pretty good. (Oh and their fig squares... so good, so tasty and not too sweet) My complaint is the hours on Sunday, they close early afternoon like 1 or 2. read more

I had the spiced chai tea and the tuna wrap........both were amazing. I also didn't realize that they don't accept debit or credit and I had only enough cash for the wrap. Went to the new groveland location. Very over priced and slow service. The coffee was good, I asked for mocha flavor the standard 3 pumps (like dunkin donuts) and I got 5 skim milk. I was charged an extra $0.75 for the mocha shot! Sorry, but if these people are that expensive and still charging for a pump of flavor, they don't deserve my business. read more

Great and friendly coffee shop right downtown. They sell donuts from Heavenly and muffins from Gingerbread which are a huge plus . The coffee is very average and mostly offered in flavors and not the best quality products. The prices are ok no deals but no rip off! Better quality coffee would be great! Freshness is not key here , as nothing is just out of the oven or coffee bean just grinded, A step above the Chain across the street but not a true coffeehouse. read more

Love this place! I started working nearby and it's quickly become my go-to place for coffee and a bagel. The bagels are SO good - cinnamon raisin is my usual standby, but their asiago cheese bagel is fantastic. They also have a ton of neat coffee flavors. They are cash/check only, which once you find out the first time isn't really an issue. The staff is super friendly, the tables are few but nice. read more

I have an update: I live on Cape Cod but have been in Andover for personal reasons for several weeks. Best thing ever: while I have been back on the Cape for weekends, I have now had three different, totally random people ask me if I knew "...where the Perk is..." and they continued with raves for the staff - and they really are the best - and the great coffee. I am permanently returning to the Cape tomorrow but I will miss the girls...or is it the coffee? This place is amazing... their coffee is so delicious that i even go there all that time to get coffee and food. All my friends work there so its so nice to see them and being served by great people at the perk. They also have good pastries too like their gingerbread muffin. Am at the Ultimate Perk in the Andover location, and I wanted to say that I had a great experience getting coffee and a delicious pastry. I got a medium ice Cinnamon Sticky Bun with cream and sugar and it was so good I can't wait to get another one and take home. Then I got a Cinnamon Stick and it went so well with my coffee, it was moist and delicious. The staff were very nice and friendly, the decor was nice. It was peaceful and I enjoyed it. Great local coffee shop! They serve multiple flavors(brewed not syrup) of freshly brewed hot & iced coffee. Muffins as good as they get - delivered daily from the Gingerbread Company. During the warmer months they have tables & chair out on the sidewalk. To complete the customer service they provide & happily fill a large dog bowl with ice water for all the eager dogs. This is a great place for coffee. The quality of the brew (both iced and hot) is above and beyond Starbucks down the street. The food is good too. I only go here to get coffee or chai when I am in Andover. I love their hot apple or raspberry chai in the winter and their iced versions in the summer. They have great bagels (you can't beat their everything bagel!) and they sell Ginger Bread Construction Company muffins so it saves you a trip to Wakefield. The staff is friendly and I have always been served quickly. It's great to support a local company like theirs. read more
