I recently purchased a pair of glasses from Ultimate Spectacle at Roosevelt Field Mall for my wife during their Labor Day sale for $875, and the experience has been incredibly disappointing. I was told the glasses would be ready within 10 days, but no one ever called me when they arrived. When I followed up, I was told the lenses had a noticeable scratch and had already been reordered--without anyone notifying me of that either. The "solution" we were offered was for my wife to wear the display frames with the scratched lenses they initially received while waiting for a pair to be made. We found that solution frustrating and dismissive. No customer paying premium prices should be expected to walk around with damaged lenses especially when my wife made it clear she had her own temporary glasses and that option wouldn't work for her. Yet they claim they offer this solution often along with another solution to give a discount on another pair which also made no sense. If anyone actually agreed to those options I would be shocked. My wife also spoke with Savana, the store manager, and Sue, the district manager to no avail. Both felt like they were reading from the same script offering the same solution, which makes me believe this kind of problem happens more often than not. They brushed it off as if it were their usual routine. Whenever I've spent $1000 for glasses in the past, I've always had nothing but careful service with consideration for time and respect. If this could happened during their "Labor Day sales" I can't even begin to imagine how customers that paid full price feel. It feels more like they charged for "scratch resistant" but created plastic lenses to offset the "discount" she received just to make a sale. All trust is gone, save yourself the headache and go to a reputable provider. read more

Bought the $20 Groupon which includes: "Contact lens eye exam, one free pair of lenses and 10% off purchased contact lenses" which seems like a great and too good to be true deal because it is. It doesn't include "contact lens fitting", which will be an additional $35 for normally curved eyes or $65 for those with an astigmatism. And if you have never had contact lenses before, it is an additional required $50 to teach you how to place and take them off. Overall it's not a bad price total (compared to my very brief NYC pricing research), but I prefer transparency in pricing, especially as it relates to health related services. Nowhere in the groupon are these additional costs laid out, so keep it in mind. I made an appointment and was seen on time. The male doc was absolutely lovely and super helpful in getting through the appointment and the difficulty of popping those suckers on my eyeballs. I would highly recommend this place to someone who needs contact lenses. read more

Ultimate spectacle in Garden City is totally unreliable and unprofessional. You can call and ask for somebody to get back to you and they don't get back to you for days at a time. If you call and ask somebody to help you they tell you the managers always out her name is Savannah and you can't speak to anybody but Savannah cuz she's the only one who could do anything. So my question is why do you have other employees if they can't help your customers. Is it to say that a company as big as ultimate spectacle doesn't have a database where anybody can go in and inform the customer on the status of their order. They're late on my order they don't communicate with you when you call them they never get back to you trying to talk to somebody there that will help you get anything done is like pulling teeth! Be careful with this place. I paid for my glasses right at the first time visit to $0.00 balance but when I went there to pick up my glasses, they asked me to pay extra for it. They even refused to give me the copy of the original bill (the handwritten one) which I fully paid with my signature. So don't trust this place. Make sure to keep the original invoice and the receipt, and also make sure to bring them with you when you pick up your glasses there. read more

I've been a patient/customer here for years. The doctors, assistants, and counter sales staff are all the perfect blend of professional and personable. Never much of a wait time, excellent patient care, and I always get my contacts sent quickly (and just as cheap as if I'd used one of those online services!). They have helped me out in emergency situations a few times too. I woke up with an eye inflammation the day I had to fly for the holidays. The doctor saw me, the assistants helped me pick out new cute affordable glasses, and had them ready for me in minutes, all in time for me to cab it to the airport! AND the dr. made sure I was able to pick up my eyedrop prescription in the local pharmacy after I landed! During COVID, they helped get my supply of contacts sent to my house. I started going there because I worked in the neighborhood, but when I switched jobs to Brooklyn, where I also lived, I kept going back because they're the best eye dr.s I've ever had. They called me to make an appointment I became sick on the day of my appointment woke up at the time I had to be there I called right away to explain why I missed my appointment she was rude she didn't want to hear no excuses and she hung up on me. My initial appointment here was great! I came in with a Groupon for a contact lens exam which came with a pair of lenses! The doctor provided an awesome service. Upon leaving I arranged to have my prescription sent to me via email. It never happened and life got busy so of course I forget. With the Rona having us on lockdown I've had nothing but time now to follow up. I reached out to get my lens prescription and the young lady I spoke with mentioned they were working from home and she would call me back after she checked the computer. Well, the computer must've fell down the same rabbit hole as Alice because we're going on week 3 and I haven't heard from her since! I've called, left messages and sent an email -- nothing. I've always had a great experience at Ultimate Spectacle. I feel the staff is warm and truthful about the costs up front and also make a huge effort to have my glasses made by the date I need them. They stock a good variety of frame shapes and are patient while you try them on. My prescription for progressive lenses is always spot on. I came here to get examined and fitted for contact lenses. I never used contacts before so I was also "trained." The doctor was very thorough and patient. She answered all of my questions. I had a lot of difficulty inserting and removing the contacts from my eyes so she suggested that I try other ones. Although I continued to have trouble removing those contacts, the doctor (and, later, a staff member) patiently assisted me. I used the $20 Groupon coupon. Although there were additional fees, the fees were clearly explained before my appointment. I found the doctor and the staff to be very honest. I was desperately in need of a new pair of glasses and wanted fashion-forward frames. I hard about Ultimate Spectacle from co-workers (I work on Lex) so, I decided to try it out. Typically, I don't warrant help from sales associates however, I was seeking an outside opinion because there were so many frames to pick from. The sales woman named Nelli was a HUGE help. Not only did she provide genuine feedback on the frames that worked best for my face/personality, she picked out several frames that I would normally not want to try on (one of which I bought!) and opened up my options. I walked out with one pair but, still think about going back for another - they are accessories after all! I went here awhile back to get glasses and was very impressed by the professionalism. Not sure what happened between then and now. I booked an appointment via ZocDoc for a Friday one month out. I get a call the day before saying the appointment was cancelled - no explanation. The options I was given for rescheduling where not great so I said I would look online and try again. Same thing just happened - cancelled a Friday appointment the day before. When I asked why it was only then I was told there are no O.D.s on site on Friday. Why didn't Zach tell me this the first time he called to cancel? Zach couldn't care that I had appointments cancelled twice. Couldn't care that he lost a customer for the business. read more

I had stopped by a few other eye shops on the UES and the customer service was bad and the selections were slim When we walked into ultimate specs it was a nice change. The staff is nice and intelligent about their products. They know what looks good, they have different brands and they have solid pricing. will purchase again.... Update. Went back because I was unsure about my purchase. And they were awesome about letting me browse some more and were even more helpful then the first time I went in. I have nothing but glowing reviews for this place. The staff at the front are some of the friendliest and most well-educated professionals I've met in any industry vertical. Why're not only super helpful but go above and beyond, as does Dr. Wertheim. I needed both my contacts and glasses prescriptions updated. They got me in quickly and worked with me to make sure the prescription was not only right but the contacts were comfortable. I came in over a month ago for new contacts. Since then I've called several times wondering where my new contacts were. I called after 3 weeks. Then a few days later. "Someone will call you back." I call back later that day "oh no one called you back?" It's now going on 6 weeks so I decide to come by in person for a refund. The staff was incredibly rude. The woman acts like you're nothing her both in person and on phone. The younger guy had a shitty attitude and kept saying "I told you the manager would call". That's been the problem. No one calls. I also sent an email on feb 15 saying my prescription is wrong. I can't see train times as well as before and something is off. No response. The email address they tell you to email is invalid. They say they called on the 8th. Maybe that's true (I doubt it. It's not in my incoming calls) but they haven't called back any step of the way, so I'm not ready to believe them. I just want a refund. LensCrafters. There's another eye doctor on the corner. They say I can either take my wrong contacts or see the doctor again. We argue and both staff members have a shitty attitude. I ask why there isn't always a manager in the store. The best response I get is "the associates can run the store." CLEARLY YOU CANT. They refuse to give cash back and say I can see the doctor again and get new lenses again, or take the wrong lenses. I almost saw the doctor, but decided I don't want to deal with them fucking it up again or dealing with the shitty staff. TLDR: i waited almost 6 weeks and paid $175 for contacts with the wrong prescription. read more

I'll be the very first to admit that I've never been one to splurge on glasses. They've been a facial feature since grade two, practically an extension of my eyes and nose at this point in my life. I've had everything from spectacularly (and quite unintentionally) oversized specs to Costco to Warby frames. A shop round the corner was unexpectedly closed, so I pulled up nearby spots on Google and Ultimate Spectacle came up. I arrived to find an ultra-sleek, modern boutique of a store - and maybe someone will identify with me when I admit that I felt a twinge of intimidation. Nevertheless, I pushed the door open and began to browse. Anne Marie asked if I needed any help and there the experience shifted to that of friends browsing together. I never felt pressured at all and she was very honest about what worked, what didn't, and why. You're now likely wondering, holy frick how much more do you have to say? A lot, but I'll give you the short. I tried two other shops, but came back here. Those experiences only served as foils to this one. The people at Ultimate were super patient with my insurance and (cough multiple cough) fittings. And I'm head over heels for my new Masunaga frames. read more

I came here based on the reviews for a new pair of glasses. The doctors and staff were very kind and I feel like they spent a lot of time with me to understand what I wanted and needed. I bought a pair of expensive top of the line glasses. Unfortunately I ended up going back 7 times to get readjustments. The prescription was written down incorrectly, the glass wasn't centered. Avoid!! I went for an eyeglasses and contacts exam, both of which are covered by my insurance. After conducting the exams they insisted that the contacts exam was a "fitting" and charged me $175. They never asked if I wanted an additional service or said that it would cost more. They then tried to charge me an additional $300 for glasses. I left without the glasses. When I requested my prescriptions they said they would e-mail them to me. They did not do this until I went back and refused to leave until they did. read more

These folks are great on every level. And they take my insurance! The ladies who helped me pick out my frames were SO nice and helpful! This is my first pair of glasses and they made it fun. The doctor took time to really work with me. I had a weird problem: when I got my glasses, I could see better, but I couldn't think well with them. Honestly, it freaked me out. After a week, I called them to see if they had recommendations and they said "come in." They did a new exam, looking at now how I saw best, but how little we could do for me to see well. Basically, the second time, if things were relatively the same, we went with something that was as little a change as possible. They replaced the lens for free, even though it wasn't their fault. I'm still getting used to them but I'm very happy. (I have an astigmatism in one eye that I didn't know about and should probably have gotten glasses a decade ago.) The frames are totally cute and I really can see better with them. I really recommend them! (One note, though: my insurance didn't cover everything; they wouldn't anywhere. And the frames that were covered by insurance were not adorable. From what I can tell, that is also true everywhere. If you are going to get glasses that you love, you probably are going to have to spend some money, especially if you have a complicated prescription.) read more

Went here with my boyfriend after we checked out Cohen's Fashion Optical. For the same pair of glasses, we were quoted 850 at Cohen and 540 here!!! The people were super nice. In addition they told us we could try a lower index lens and save 250 because there was more insurance coverage, and could swap it out and give us a lower index one if we didn't like it (and pay the difference). Where has this store been all of my life? Seriously! I have been a glasses wearer for my entire life and have never had an easy time finding frames. Turns out I just didn't have the right store/people helping me until now! I stopped by ultimate spectacle the other night after work after reading all of the positive reviews below. I was hoping to find fun new sunglasses, but given my history with glasses shopping didn't get my hopes up. Well, I quickly discovered that the reviews below could not be more accurate about this place. Not only did I struggle to choose from multiple great options, but, after narrowing down my choices, I couldnt just choose one and ended up leaving the store with 2 amazing and completely different frames!! The layout of the store itself could not be more customer-friendly in its streamlined, bright and clean set up. The frames are set up by brand and within each respective section are displayed to show the customer all of the various colors and sizes to choose from. The sales people who helped me, Jaclyn and Mario, could not have been more friendly and HONEST! Jaclyn and Mario not only helped me find frames, but also were amazing in helping me narrow down my options. I was so impressed with their knowledge and ability to explain to me which frames my particular prescription would work well with versus not as well. I did not feel pressured or rushed at all during my shopping experience, even though I took quite some time to make my decision on which glasses to purchase. Really, I am struggling to come up with anything negative to say about this place - but, if I had to, I'd say that my one qualm is that the store closes at 7pm, which makes it difficult for me, who tends to work later, to stop in. I guess I will just have to sneak out of work earlier in the future so that I can shop here again - it was well worth it!! read more
