My sister would rave about this place and finally got the family to go. I guess when we went it was a slow say so our wait was not long but the place is small and with little moving room so it makes it feel crowded. The service, it was ok but the food itself was pretty good. My parents ordered a shrimp sushi which I felt was a bit pricy for something that was just ok, nonetheless, the enjoyed it. Most of the menu are soups/ramen and most are pork based but I personally did not mind. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had different flavored noodles. The price was high and the seafood noodles were 3/10. Perhaps their other items were better. Edit to the business owner: I never take back my food regardless where I go because I don't think it's the restaurant's fault that I ordered an item I didn't like. I ate all my food because the portion wasn't that much and I was hungry. I wasn't complaining hence I paid for it and tipped as I should. The server was pleasant and nice. I was just saying it's not my bowl of ramen and that's ok. Everyone has the own taste and preferences hence I said maybe the other items were better. I love their karaage don and my fiancé gets the green ramen with the kale noodles. The edamame is pretty good too, we just don't get it anymore because the food is very filling. Great lunch spot next to H-Mart! We used the reservation feature, were seated quickly and also used the check in feature to get BOGO ramen toppings. We started with the chicken and pork buns. Very flavorful and worth trying. The orders come with 2 each, so order 2 for 2 people. We ended up getting the super spicy miso and honey miso ramen with spicy noodle. Again, full of flavor and very filling. We also enjoyed looking at all of the writings and drawings on the wall while dining. Definitely recommend this place read more

The ramen is amazing--definitely my favorite (even over Jinya). The problem is the service and wait times. Servers seem inexperienced, disorganized and even ambivalent. The limited seating means that you may end up waiting for over an hour and there is no where to sit while you wait. Your estimated waiting time is a VERY LOOSE estimate and it usually takes longer than the estimate you're given when you show up. If they would fix their service and wait time issues, I'd give Umaido 5 stars, easy. read more

Only reason it's a 2 star is because food is good. Service on the other hand is inconsistent. How is it possible to sign up on Yelp waitlist at 9:13 (45 minutes prior to closing), you drive to the restaurant and you are told at arrival that since it's too busy they can't service you. Why even allow you to sign in on Yelp if they won't honor it. Waste of time. Kym- We actually arrived at 9:21 ( and signed up on the waitlist at 9:13) but the hostess was dealing with a to go order for like 5 people and had 2 other parties she was dealing with as she kicked them out along with us. In the meantime we patiently waited. By the way the to go order option was not even offered until I gave her my feedback and then she acted like she was going above and beyond when that was the minimum she could offer. And no, we didn't enjoy the to go order since it was not the same experience and we drove over to have it freshly made. So since you were quick to respond without even apologizing for the poor service, maybe you can refocus that energy and speed to action to Up skill your staff. Umaido is located off Lawrenceville-Suwanne Road by Kang Buk and Kang Seo, and also the lot over from Suwanee H Mart. There's plenty of parking fortunately. I had been meaning to try Umaido for quite some time, since I've heard such great things about it and I'm slowly becoming a ramen snob. The interior is very nice. There's the option to sit at the bar area, sit at the hightop tables (but you may end up sitting next to other parties), or sit at normal tables along the wall. Restrooms are clean and there's one available each for male and females. I tried the honey miso ramen ($10) and added chicken karaage. I wasn't too impressed with the chicken karaage - it tasted overcooked, despite sitting in the broth. The honey miso was pretty good though. They definitely don't stinge on the toppings, but I felt that the bowls are too small and they do stinge on the noodles. You have the option of paying a little extra for more noodles, but with the small bowls, you might be out of broth by the time you finish your initial noodles. Service was very friendly and prompt. Overall, I probably would come back if I was in the area, but I wasn't a huge fan of their ramen. read more

So I've been here a couple of times and I would like to say this place is pretty average for me. The Ramen is good but it's not the best Ramen I've had. I feel like they need a little bit more flavor. They definitely know how to do spicy so if you're a spicy fan I would definitely go here. The service is great but the flavors in some things need a little bit more work. The space is small and they did try to social distance but obviously it's not doable as much. Everyone wore masks which was nice and they did take my temperature. I don't think this place is bad but I'm not overwhelmed with how good it is. I'll come back again if someone I'm with wants to go but otherwise I'm not really going to go here. Again it's not bad at all but it's not great and I wasn't super impressed. Umaido has been open for a while now. Since it opened I have always loved this place. Not for anything else other than the quality of the Ramen itself. When I compare to a wide swath of Ramen places I have been in Metro Atlanta, this is the only place that "has the goods". In NYC 5-10 years back Ramen was a huge thing, and everyone became a highly cultivated Ramen connoisseur. Between my tastings in New York and my trips to Tokyo, this is the only place I vouch for in Georgia. This place is 100% legit. The combo, add-ons, like the shrimp sushi roll at lunch are awesome. My kid loved the fresh takoyaki here. You can tell by the octopus stuffing. He ate a whole dish of takoyaki. The broth is not as savory like other places. I went in there for a quick fix after landing for a business trip, around 9 o clock. I was quickly seated and being served. I ordered tonkatsu ramen, which is the typical ramen that I go for. Ramen was out pretty quick. Honestly, with the high rated reviews, I was not impressed at all. Portion was small, tonkatsu was pretty bland and not chargrilled enough, and the broth was flavorless. Definitely a legit ramen spot outside of the perimeter. I have been in the past but finally took my boyfriend here. I believe they have a sister restaurant called Hajime near the Tara theater in Buckhead if you're looking for ITP. We started with the pork buns which were delicious and not too expensive (3 bucks for 2). I got the tori ramen with extra concentrated broth. It was delicious. I liked all the veggies including kale and my egg had a runny yolk in the middle. My noodles were green (I guess for veggies or spinach?) and not bad but I expected yellow noodles. Still delicious regardless of noodle color. My boyfriend got the spicy miso level 2 ramen with concentrated broth and enjoyed it quite a bit. He had orange noodles with his bowl and the egg was not overcooked for him either. He was actually mad at himself for not going to Umaido sooner since he moved to Suwanee 2 years ago. I came here a many years ago when I first visited Atlanta. Nice to see it's still the highest rated ramen in the area. Came back recently and had another delicious bowl of ramen! I love the chopsticks on the front door handle, lol. You know they love noodles here. Last time I got the ultra spicy ramen, so this time I tried the spicy miso ramen. Extra soft boiled egg, of course. It was super delicious. My only negative point was that the soup wasn't piping hot. I know that's what happens when you put not hot noodles / extras into hot soup, so it cools it down. I would suggest putting it into a boiling pot and let it get to boiling again, but alas. If I ask any Atlanta locals for ramen recommendation, Umaido will most likely be their answer. Umaido is one of the oldest ramen shop in the area. It has been opened since 2009 and won multiple awards over the years. Unfortunately, Umaido's ramen has not reached the authenticity I was looking for, and I have been on the hunt for authentic Japanese ramen for almost 5 years now. I've tried their Spicy Miso, Honey Miso, and Spicy Tonkotsu. I felt like they have nailed the tare (a seasoning agent/sauce of ramen that push the broth into different classifications), but not the broth base. All the broths were on the salty and creamy side. I didn't taste the sweet, heartiness, and umami-rich kind of soup base that ramen broth supposes to have. On the plus side, I really like their ramen toppings. The chashu, soft boiled eggs, bamboo shoots, and fried shrimps were my favorites. Umaido also has great appetizers; I think shrimp buns and takoyaki are must-try items. Especially, the takoyaki was delicious and packed with octopus. I would probably come back to Umaido in the future. I've heard a lot of hype about this place having the best ramen in the metro area. I'm very impressed and I think it may indeed be my favorite I've had! Kept it simple and got the Tonkatsu. The noodles are a little thinner, the sauce isn't overly salty, and the serving size wasn't gigantic. Plus it didn't leave me with a lot of congestion that some ramen places do, so wins across the board. Although everything I've tried is always satisfying, my favorite ramen is the Ultra Spicy Ramen (Level 2, specifically). Their ramens are priced proportional to the size and quality of the dish (large bowls with flavors and ingredients of quality). Although their broth is not piping hot to my preference, it's still soothing and delicious. Their noodles are chewy and cooked well. The best part is the soft boiled egg with a gooey yolk. Meh. Ramen is all about the taste and smell experience. Umaido makes a good presentation, but the flavors fall short. Soon as you walk in, there's a sign that asks you to sign in on the tablet using yelp waitlist. No one greets or even acknowledged you until you do so. This of course leaves you standing there in the narrow front area feeling uncomfortable until they approach you. This is the point where they tell you they have no open tables but can seat you at a spot on their high top communal table....right next to an open table. Like seriously, why say you have no tables and then sit us beside an empty one?? We ordered the ebi gyoza to start and I had the seafood ramen while Chad ordered the spicy miso ramen. First off, seafood ramen should have a mix of flavors without being fishy or salty. This one however was extremely salty and bland at the same time! The fried shrimp and scallops were both unseasoned so they had no taste, and they were out of squid but only mentioned it after I told them they forgot the squid. I consider it highly unprofessional that they were not going to tell me they were out of a key ingredient of my order, but then when they say I can either have extra shrimp or just eat it as is instead of even apologizing or offering a discount equal to the price of the missing squid ($2), I know I will not be back. At least not for the ramen. The only taste of my entire ramen came from the fresh sweet and green onions on top. Chad said his spicy miso was okay, but neither spicy or miso flavored. The egg was un-marinated and the pork was extremely tough. Oh yeah, and the gyoza appetizer only came after we were halfway finished with our ramen. It was at least hot and fresh however, it was drowned in an oil that left an unpleasant aftertaste and film on your teeth and were again bland. Then to top it all off, the noodles were a miss. Their texture proved that they were only blanched since they were hard to chew to the point of being crunchy in some bites even though they were thinner than spaghetti noodles. Again bland and a disappointment. I expect ramen noodles to be chewy yet soft and at least a little bit thicker than spaghetti noodles. I don't know yet if I will be back or not. There are so many other choices in town, so they may not have the chance to redeem themselves for me. read more
