how absolutely wonderful this little place was!! i came across this restaurant just searching for okonomiyaki in the area and i adored the anime themes of it so my friend and i decided to try it out. it was thankfully and conveniently located in the same parking area as the super h-mart so we were also able to get some groceries nearby before stopping by to eat a late lunch. i loved the anime decor and our waitress was super sweet. ordering off the little tablets was very reminiscent of when i visited japan, a very nice detail. the tablet was super easy to order on and had photos of each dish, which i definitely appreciated. my friend ordered the gyoza and okonomiyaki, he said both were very good. i myself got the miso tsukemen and just wow, i loved those thick chewy noodles and that warm savory broth. the chashu bun was also pretty good but the next time i visit, i likely won't order again. i will most definitely return to try the soba! ありがとうございます！ read more

After spending time in Japan and going on a food tour there, I've been seriously missing authentic ramen. So while shopping in Duluth, my partner and I decided to stop by Raku Tonkatsu Ramen. The moment we walked in, the warm atmosphere hit us right away. The service was just as inviting. Staff was friendly, attentive, and quick without making us feel rushed. We ordered three items from the menu: - Takoyaki (6 pieces for $11.40): The balls were crispy on the outside, and the inside included a blend of octopus and cabbage. The balls were topped with bonito flakes and beni shoga. They came out piping hot and full of flavor, which made it a great starter. - Tonkotsu Black Ramen ($19.38): It was a creamy pork and chicken broth with noodles, chashu, marinated egg, mushrooms, scallions, bean sprouts, and a drizzle of black garlic oil that gave it a deep, savory punch. - Tonkotsu Ramen ($18.75): It had the same silky broth and toppings as the above but without the garlic oil. I've been coming here for quite some time now for it to be one of my fave Ramen spots. But tonight will definitely be my last night coming here for a while. I get this place closes at 11 but to be so rude to look my friend in the eye and say "hurry up, it's 11 and we're closed" was rude as hell. I dont appreciate my conversation being interrupted to rudely be told to hurry up because yall are closed..... Like, there was no "excuse me" or "I'm sorry" no it was straight up "hurry up, it's 11 and we're closed." Our server was nice, so my complaint aint about her, it was about that old lady who can barely speak English, rolling up on us outta nowhere saying to hurry up and how they're closed. This business has changed management 3 times. There's a lovely couple who's been managing Raku for 4 years. Husband and wife run the business together. I haven't seen any other employees working here. I haven't been here in a very long time. My mom and I came to eat lunch (about 10 days ago). If you come here during the week days (Monday through Friday) between 11:30 am to 3 pm. Their lunch special ($12.99) has 5 different ramen choices which includes 2 appetizers --- takoyaki (2), veggie croquette (1), fried goyza (2, pork/chicken), chicken karrage (Japanese fried chicken), and veggie spring roll. This is the ramen combo because this was the combo my mom and I ordered. There's another set (you could see it from the photos I've taken) and it's also $12.99. My mom ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen combo with chicken karrage and veggie croquette and I had ordered the Shoyu Ramen combo with takoyaki and chicken karrage. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the chicken karrage and takoyaki!! They're the BEST!!! The reason why I like this place now is because it's ANIME decor/ambience. Their menu also has anime characters. Most of the characters I've seen are from Naruto, Bleach, Dragonball Z, Sailormoon, Attack on Titan... there were others but I wasn't familiar with it. Also, if you follow them on Instagram and tag them on your post and you show them that you did that you can get FREE TAKOYAKI!!! For those of you who don't know what takoyaki is.. it is a popular Japanese street food of bite-sized octopus-filled balls. They cook it very delicious (BEST I've ever tried)!!! Their ramen looks nothing like the ramen Raku's past cooks have served. There's no soy seasoned egg on top of the ramen (only for the lunch special). Regular priced ramen has the boiled egg on top of the ramen. A lot of the items have changed. Overall, I love this place! I'll be coming back for more!! read more

PARKING This business is on the left side of the Super HMart Plaza and shares a free, public parking lot with the adjacent businesses. Simple. II. SERVICE  Timely and to-the-point. The theme here is cute ~ they have popular anime posters filling the walls.  III. QUALITY  Crispy & delicious and served like you would experience in Japan. Under new ownership! I've been to Raku several times over the years but this is this first time I've tried Raku under their new owners . The new owners come from Japan and brought their authentic tasty food with them. The original Naruto ramen is what I ordered and it was delicious. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the soup broth was delicious! We got some apps to share. Chicken Karaage was juicy and crispy, and the crunchy mayo shrimp was perfect. They also gave us edamame to snack on before the apps. I got a cheese tonkatsu set. The pork was perfectly cooked and tender, loved the miso soup and cabbage salad. My fiancé got a tonkatsu-don bowl which was flavorful and comforting. Pretty good ramen! Prices are on the higher side but food seems reliable. Portions were really good, plenty of ramen noodles. The takoyaki was the best I've had - super fresh and hot when it came out. I ordered the Shoyu Chasu Ramen and it came with extra pieces of Chasu (compared to what my friends ordered) and no egg. We ordered to go, so keep that in mind as you read my review. I had my mother go up the restaurant to order and when she arrived there was no line, but there were not many empty parking spaces near the entrance. The place had plenty of customers, so they must be popular. I had her order the Roast Pork Tonkatsu Ramen, a Tori Katsu plate, and a couple orders of Karaage. They kind of messed up the order... BUT...in their defense...my mom was ordering. So, it could've been her. Let's start with the Tory Katsu plate. It was served with cabbage salad, plain rice, a dollop of spicy mustard, a container of sesame dressing, and a container of Japanese barbecue sauce. The chicken Katsu was quite good. The tempura breading was close to perfect, but needed extra time in the oven when it got to my house. You can tell the difference by looking at the pictures I added. One picture is where it's in the box- looks a bit unappealing. Afterwards, I placed it in the oven and it darkened up the color and crisped up the panko. The chicken did stay juicy. The side of cabbage salad was good with the sesame dressing, but since I ordered extra, it would have been nice to get an extra cup of dressing. The miso soup was great, but then there wasn't quite enough. It was less than a standard bowls worth. I mean, it came with the plate, so it's to be expected. I just wanted more. The rice was tender and plump and had a great fluffiness to it since they cooked it with the rice vinegar too. Next, let's discuss the Roast Pork Tonkatsu. I tasted the broth and it was creamy, light, and quite tasty. I would not say it was particularly rich in flavor. It was good though. The egg was boiled in broth- always the right choice. The noodles were just right and the pork was super tender and flavorful. The veggies were all stand-outs and added to the flavor rather than melding with the flavor of the soup. I have not tried the Raku Miso Ramen as it was a mistake in the order. We didn't order it, but we did pay for it and did get it. I'll be trying it for lunch tomorrow or something. I can say I didn't like the idea of it having corn. The chicken Karaage was far below par in my opinion. I've had really good Karaage and this was not it. It was overly powdered with under-cooked/fried flour(?) and even after putting it in the oven it didn't help a whole lot. I was very disappointed. Overall, it was OK but it wasn't the best I've had. I might go back to try and eat in the restaurant rather than order to go. read more

Was a bit hesitant because I saw their ratings weren't super high but LET ME TELL YOU!! The inside was so fun with all of the anime posters and decorations. They had lots of items on the menu to choose from, but we got the chashu onigiri, takoyaki, raku miso ramen and tonkotsu black ramen. The food truly tastes like what you would expect to eat at your parents house: cozy and homemade. It would be so perfect on a cold day! The servers were also SO sweet and kind. It seems like the owners are also the server and chef. The chef also comes out to help serve and he especially made our visit worthwhile with his hospitality. I was in the mood for Katsu, so swung in here for a super-late dinner. Good thing that they remain open 'til quite late (10:30 pm on weeknights, later on weekend nights). First of all, the place is pretty casual, but has a very authentic Japanese ambiance, with very bright, colorful motif...and in general, has a very lively vibe. Loved the upbeat Japanese music overhead as well. Well, I ordered their Chicken Katsu...somewhat with an expectation, since I saw the pictures on Yelp. Sadly, what I received was missing THE thing that revved up my interest. This small plate with this ingredient grinder? (see others' pic of Katsu/Tonkatsu plate). Not sure what that was, but wanted to see exactly what it was. Well, my version of the Chicken Katsu did NOT come with that. In fact, my plate wasn't even black or ceramic...but an ugly clay colored plate. Guess it was late in the day, and they ran out of good dishes...and that ingredient grinder thing! Anyway, the Katsu Chicken was HUGE...and really good...though I expected the batter to be crispier? The veggie (whatever that's called?) was a good complement to the Katsu. Miso Soup was a bit bland, but I liked the Rice (love how Japanese make the rice drier). So in some ways, it didn't meet my expectations. Again, am thinking it was late in the day...and they ran out of things (??). Still, my meal was delish...and a great value! Also, the service was quick and friendly. Despite my disappointment in the presentation (and the missing ingredient grinder), I really liked the place. Very comfy vibe...and I'll likely return on my future trips. Japanese mom and pop shop. Open later than most and definitely better than all the chain ramen stores in the area. New ownership - the old Raku had really good tonkatsu. Under new owners the ramen is the star. Highly recommend the Nagasaki chanpon. You can find a version of this in one or two other places but if you want a big bowl of noodles with seafood this is it. The Tokyo shoyu is a bit salty but good. The appetizers selection is solid but try the okonomiyaki. read more

Hi! I'm originally from San Diego. Hubbs and I went here for a quick staycation. Back home in TN, we are abt 2hrs away from legit tasting Asian food so we always make it a point to make time for food we miss from California. I always get gyudon and takoyaki everytime I go to a Japanese restaurant. I was worried abt the food because of the mediocre rating but recent ratings were excellent so we gave it a try, plus I was getting hangry and It was nearby. Takoyaki - crispy on the outside, mushy and tasty on the inside. It is not overpowered with lots of kewpie mayo, The sauce was perfect. Gyudon- pricey but they always are priced about $15-16 here in the South. The serving of meat was generous in comparison to most places. Miso ramen- hubbs says the chasu pork was tender and the broth was delicious. Ps my hubbs usually doesnt eat pork. Ambiance is excellent. Appropriate for casual date or hang out for some drinks with friends. It's spacious and clean. Service is excellent. It wasnt too busy and the server got our orders, refilled our waters and we didnt have to wait at all. Please give this place a try. It tastes authentic and worth your monies. Went here after a Photoshoot cause we wanted something close by and my friend needed some veggie options for ramen. The decor is we are a big anime fan so we loved all the decor inside for the ramen shop. It is a small restaurant so we was lucky that it wasn't crowded on a Sunday. The Host was nice and brought what we need. Though I say it is slightly different being when asked can we get some soy sauce and she brought out two t Togo packets of soy sauce unlike some places that have the container already out or other condiments to the table. - Food was pleasant but wasn't as flavorful as most ramen spots are so that when we asked for soy sauce etc. they do give you like this red pepper seasoning. They did leave off my bok choy but then brought me it with only one smh.
