Good Poke can be hard to come by, but I enjoy this restaurant. The inside is small, so we usually take ours to go. They have a nice variety of proteins, veggies, and premium add-ons. We typically build bowls. The ingredients are always fresh. The avocado has always been green. You really can't go wrong. I will say, compared to some other Poke places, here you do have to pay for a few add-ons that others include with a bowl purchase, but at least they are offering the options at a pretty reasonable price. Most flavorful Poke' Bowl you'll have! I overheard someone talking about this place a couple months ago. They mentioned sushi burritos and I was thinking...Where!? The restaurant is super clean and has nice spots to sit including at window with bar seating. The owner is friendly and believes in his entrees. So far I've tried from the menu Zen, Sunrise, and Umami in bowls mostly but zen as a pokerito first time. All good just a little pricey but it's a healthy choice. You won't feel stuffed. Portions were a bit lacking in comparison to other poke places I've been to. I got the umami bowl and there was a decent amount of protein, but way much more rice. The rice was also way too soggy, because it was hard to take apart to eat with each bite. The sauce for this one had too much yum yum sauce to the point that it was overwhelming because that was all I tasted. Next time, I would get less of this or just try another sauce. read more

My greatest regret may be that I didn't review Umami Pokerito immediately after my first time trying it. That review may have more appropriately expressed how much I loved their food. With sushi and sashimi just rolling right into popularity, it was only a matter of time before the amazing thing that is poke became more commonplace too. What do I get here? The basic, very first item on the menu. The umami bowl. I haven't ventured beyond that, aside from the occasional switcheroo from crab to something else when I'm not feeling shellfish. This includes white rice (though I've opted for brown before), salmon, tuna, yellowtail, crab, avocado, mixed greens and covered in seaweed furikake, roe and the restaurants special sauce concoction. My coworkers will often get the seaweed wraps or some other kind of build-your-own bowl. The wraps don't appeal to me and look like they get too soggy making the seaweed hard to bite and tear through. Staff has usually been super friendly and polite. The restaurant was poppin' during the first couple of months of business and has lately died down a bit. That's somewhat to my benefit as it has shortened the lunchtime wait. But it could be due to my same reason for not coming here too often. Let's face it, the prices are high. Not unreasonably though; the food quality is great and delicious and fully worth the more than $10 you will spend in here per visit. If I was a man of greater means, I'd be by at least once a week for a bowl of deliciousness. read more

The menu is extensive. There are some signature items you can order or you can create your own. I created my own bowl. I had to ask a lot of questions because I wasn't familiar with some of the menu items names. They were the traditional Japanese names. The cashier wasn't very familiar with the items either and had to ask the chef. The chef was very helpful and let me try the different sauce options they have. I enjoyed my bowl creation but I feel like the portion was kinda small compared to other Poké restaurants I've been to. The bowl was aesthetically beautiful and had great flavor. I'm a huge fan of poke and I hadn't made it out here they so I decided to give it a try. It's in a small shopping center off of Pineville-Matthews road. I always do a build your own poke bowl. I didn't like how this one was set up. You had to order at the counter, but you couldn't see what you were ordering it watch them make it for you like you can at most places. I got mine with brown rice, Ahi Tuna, avocado, carrots, corn, green onions, cucumbers, mango, and sweet chili sauce. I enjoyed my bowl, but I wish I would have sampled the sauces before getting one because there sweet chili was a little too sweet for me. I thought the topping selection was a little smaller than some of the other places around town. They have a very small number of tables there, but there was no one there when we were there. This is our favorite place in Charlotte. I have probably left a glowing review before, but I'd like to get another one in to be sure this place gets as much support as possible. We don't want it to go away! First of all, the freshness of the seafood is really unparalleled and the flavoring is superb. Second, one specific food: the shrimp tempura is as good as any we have had anywhere. Third, the tuna taco appetizer is currently my favorite dish from anyplace. Fresh spicy tuna with greens and delicious sauce in an airy shell. If I knew I could eat one and only one food item for the rest of my life, I would be perfectly happy with Umami Pokerito tuna tacos. (It would actually be a HEALTHY choice, too, because it has fish, vegetables, and enough carbs in the taco shell to make a pretty balanced diet, nutrition-wise.) If this place had located in the South End or Waverley it would probably have evolved into multiple sites locally like many other local favorites. I don't think that is the proprietor's goal, though--I think he is primarily interested in serving delicious poke-style food. So please please support this place-you will not regret it! read more

I came here with a bit of a high expectation but was such a let down. I mean I get the concept but it could of been better. We ordered three different build your own bowls and was able to pick a limited amount of what we wanted. The portion were on the small size for the price and there isn't that much fish in the bowl. There's a poke craze going on and I love it! It's fast and tasty. What I like about Pokerito is that everything can come in a burrito or a bowl and it's extremely customizable. On the menu there's a side for creating your own and all of the options. Or you can choose from a preset list. I went with a Zen burrito on a wheat wrap. You can also get the burritos in nori or a regular wrap. The Zen had spicy tuna, spicy crab, tempura shrimp, cucumbers, avocado, spicy sauce and a sweet sauce with rice. It was like a giant sushi roll. I really enjoyed it. Next time I might create my own. The staff was friendly and explained the menu to me. Yo! Umami is the real d'eel when it comes to Charlotte Poke joints (hey when my 22 year old daughter and I agree on anything, it must be good!) I must admit that I had no idea what a sushi burrito was until I had their signature Umami Burrito today for lunch. Although a bit pricey for this retired teacher at $12.99, it was absolutely delicious and filling. My sushi-savvy daughter built her own of course and was very pleased also as very full. Be warned though, the dining area only has a couple of four seat tables and about a dozen or so stools. There are also no fountain drinks offered if that matters to you. Finally, as I mentioned, it is pricey. Our total bill for a couple of burritos and bottled teas came in at around $29, but here, you do get what you pay for. Located beside Panera at corner of 51 and Carmel, parking is easy and the sanitary rating was a 95. I'll be back the next time my daughter is in town. I love sushi. I love burritos. So there was a pretty good chance that I was going to like this place. And I did. Obviously. Umami - you have yourself a new fan! I decided to build my own burrito. But there are plenty of great combinations that would be good for someone less adventurous or that wants to keep it simple. The ordering is easy - you pick your protein, up to 5 toppings, add sauces and then you're done. I decided to have the spicy crab and loaded it up with toppings and added some yum yum sauce. Guys, it was so good! I did a pretty darn good job. The service here is very good, they gave me a tip for how to eat my burrito so it wouldn't fall apart and came by to make sure that I enjoyed everything.
