Honestly, this is a pretty solid spot if you're craving some Japanese food! The menu is soo extensive, so all your bases are pretty covered, whether you want miso soup, steamed wontons, sushi, udon, etc. Not only that, but prices are pretty decent too, so you can eat your fill without breaking the bank. Where do I start, I am a first time customer here at Umami Tavern, and tonight my party of 6 is celebrating my mother's 69th birthday! After placing an order upwards of 300 dollars, I made the simple request for my fried rice to be cooked extra, or "well done". My waitress, seemingly perturbed by my request then informed me that their rice is "cooked long enough..and doesn't need to be well done" - after roughly 3 back forth repeats of the situation.... The waitress reluctantly takes the rice into the back, mixes more soy sauce into it, and returns 1 minute later, smiles, and forcefully places the bowl in front of me and starts to walk away. After I acknowledge the fact that she was gone for one minute, and had not even placed my rice on the grill top, the waitress aggressively asked me if I want them to burn the rice. I inform her this has never been turned into an issue, and that I simply wanted the rice cooked roughly 5 minutes longer.. She tells me, "Fine".. for the second time she removes the rice and goes to the kitchen. She then proceeds to talk about me in a rude manner with the other staff members, roughly 6 feet away from our table.... At this , and doesn't need to be cooked extra, after politely asking for my rice to simply be The old saying goes, first impressions are everything! And after this experience, I will never return. read more

For whatever reason I have not tried this using ninja as my sushi place in the area. My daughter picked this as it was more of a sushi place than a Japanese steakhouse and had what her kids liked. So we came here with seven of us got seated nearly immediately right around lunchtime on Monday Presidents' Day, and the service was impeccable !!! We got our drinks right away and ordered a couple of appetizers while we looked at the menu. We all found what we wanted place our orders got a couple of drinks and came out quick, our server was on top of us at all times, one of us had a Ramen bowl and the rest of his head sushi and the kids had chicken nuggets. The sushi was fresh, and very good, I shared a couple of roles, and each were equally good. The Ramen could've been spicier, but that was our decision. So next time we will order it spicier, but I just can't say enough about the service we got having kids And a highchair, let's say a high maintenance table, but we cleaned up our mess and we were sure to tip 30% as you should today for great service and food. Hidden gem in the Braselton area! My husband and kids really enjoyed the sushi. The hibachi filet was the most tender filet I've had at any local restaurant. It's our new local favorite. Went here with a friend last week. Place was not very crowded for lunch. My girlfriend and I ordered the lunch special rolls. They didn't have iced tea, and the waitress seemed irritated that we even asked. We ordered out rolls and the soup and small salad came out. They were good. The rolls were just ok. Tiny amount of wasabi and 3 shreds of ginger. Was not impressed and the waitress hates her job and shows it to her customers. Will not be back. I will drive for better food and service. read more

We were seated promptly and the waitress was very nice, giving us extra time to look over the menu as it was our first time in. I ended up getting the salmon hibachi with double vegetables and my friends got the chicken tonkatsu bento box lunch. They ordered sweet tea to drink- one friend said it was undrinkably sweet but my other friend drank two glasses so take that as you will! Salmon Hibachi was very standard- tasted like all other Japanese steakhouse dinners. The double portion of veggies was decent and I enjoyed the ginger dressing it came with. Mushroom broth soup and salad come with it and were good. My friends' bento boxes were cute- love the container- it was a good price for the amount of food: rice option, meat option, one fried dumpling and one shumai dumpling, an entire California roll (not just like 2-3 pcs like some places) plus they also had miso soup and salad come with it. Both said it was really good- especially the fried rice. I need to come back and try the sushi for a more informed opinion, but definitely will come back. read more

The beer was served cold and was refreshing. My guest had green tea that she enjoyed but the tea leafs needed to be strained. The mushroom soup was good but a bit salty. The salad was fresh and the dressing was delicious. The hibachi was served hot and was more than enough for me. The shrimp were pretty large and the chicken was bite sized. Plenty of vegetables and the fried rice was worth the additional 2.00. My partner asked for extra vegetables and no rice. Perfect for her. My bill was 58 plus tip. We will be back soon. When we were leaving we noticed it had gotten a lot busier. We are not big sushi eaters but it looked fresh and good for those that enjoy it. read more

Stumbled upon this place after visiting Chateau Elan, and oh my goodness did we find a local gem! Wonderful, incredibly fresh and superb quality food. A true treat for your palate. We tried the yellowtail sashimi appetizer, which was out of this world. Then followed by Papa Bear, Naruto, and Fish Fiesta (hope I remember the name correctly). All were just incredible. I went with my family to this restaurant for my birthday meal. The service was very slow but based on another family member's experience a couple of times, I was willing to overlook that...However, our waitress became very argumentative when all my son asked for was to have his fried rice cooked a few minutes longer. She refused and told us that it was cooked how they wanted it cooked and that was fine for everybody else. She came back to our table 4x just to smirk, make some unpleasant statement and say she wouldn't ask the cook to cook it extra. She didn't refill our drinks or ask if we wanted anything else. On time number 4, when she came back to argue with my son, he respectfully told her that we were trying to enjoy a birthday meal and would she please leave us so we could do that. I was so embarrassed and frustrated. So, we told her to take the rice off the bill. She continued to the area just beside our table behind the counter and spoke so loudly to the other coworkers that my 10 year old granddaughter could hear the way she spoke about us, and repeated what she was saying. Needless to say, I would never go back. The food was sub par and the service was inexcusable. The bill for 3 of us was over $100.00. Normally I wouldn't mind paying that but to have the treatment from this person made the amount paid seem more like an insult. Any of the other staff could and should have intervened to help rectify the situation, but nobody tried. They all stood around and stared. read more

Me and my wife went here for late 3:00 pm lunch on a Tuesday and the restaurant was empty. We were greeted at the door by a woman who wasn't mean, but she wasn't nice either. The waitress was very polite and took our order right away. The food was delicious presented well. We had the shrimp tempura and some sushi.
