$75 set menu 9 different seasonings

10/10 A refreshing and unique take on a sushi place. The aesthetic is incredibly zen and artistic. The Sushi Set: A total feast for both the eyes and the palate. The presentation is stunning, but the taste definitely matches. The Flavor: The seasoning and sauces on each piece were perfectly balanced--not too overpowering, just enough to enhance the fresh fish. Verdict: If you're looking for a sushi experience that's a bit different from the traditional spots, Ume is a must. Perfect for a vibey dinner in Williamsburg.

Amazing authentic experience. Every single piece was amazing. You get to sit on the floor. There is literally not a single piece that isn't good. I can't for my birthday and it was such a great experience. They also did a dessert and candle for it. I would highly recommend coming here with friends since you are sharing a table. All the food came out quickly and the server was very knowledgeable

Classic set with salts, wasabi and soup. (You can ask for extra ginger or more salts)

Ume is a great time especially if you like sushi and want a hands on experience! You enter by taking off your shoes, and you are seated on the ground. The trick here is to split the seaweed in half so that you can have enough seaweed for all the fish. I also enjoyed brushing soy sauce on each roll, but you can skip if you don't prefer the saltiness. Also make note of which seasonings / salts you like the best (our favorite was truffle salt and the Japanese wasabi). You can ask them to bring out extra in a separate tray.

Have been to Ume a few years back and wanted to check it out as I was in the area. We made reservations the same day online. I love Ume and it's just as good as I remembered it, the garden seating is always my favorite as the lighting is better. The food is great and everything tastes super fresh. I love being able to choose how I want to eat my sushi. It's a great experience and don't forget to sample all the salts. The staff here is great and always super nice and helpful.

Ume was honestly one of the best dining experiences I think I have ever had in my life no exaggeration. We sat out in the garden which made for such a peaceful dining experience. It was as if the city around us just disappeared. I loved that they followed traditional Japanese household rules. We removed our shoes upon arrival and got to sit on cushions on the floor. This is a GREAT first date spot (why I was there) BUT DONT WEAR A SKIRT LIKE ME LOL!!'n The Sushi set is clearly the reason that we went. My favorite part about this meal was it allowed me to try food I would probably NEVER order for myself .... Straight up out of fear but I tried EVERY single piece even though I was scared LOL. You can tell all the details of this meal have been thought out.... Even down to the collection of seasoning the chef hand picks himself from his travels. The serve was so helpful in making sure we understood exactly what we were doing and eating. Overall a HIGHLY recommended and amazing dining experience.

$78 for prix fixe menu (12 pieces of fish, soup, rice, and nori). Everything was really good and fresh, I liked how there are 9 salts/sauces for you to try as well. It's so fun to sit in the indoor garden, all seating is on the floor. The staff was very thorough in explaining everything. Overall, it was a great experience. I highly recommend it if you are looking for high-quality fish.

A beautiful, serene, peaceful setting. Simple, elegant and flavorful bites of food. Almost too beautiful to eat! Excellent service and very accommodating for my younger son who couldn't eat raw fish (the unagi and wagyu were fervent for him!). The attention to detail and the experience itself were too notch! A perfect way to end our trip to NYC from Dallas.

This DIY omakase experience is such a fun meal to grab with friends, family, or on a date. I highly recommend reservations as it can get busy. It's a traditional experience, where you take off your shoes at the entrance and sit on the floor. The interior of the restaurant has an "outside" portion, with a clear ceiling (but you are still inside) and it's absolutely stunning. Service was super attentive and polite. We did the omakase set for $78pp and it was delicious. You are given 12 cuts of fish with 9 different salts. For your dining experience, you can mix and match the fish and salts to curate your own meal. You are also given a menu providing the name of each of the fish and salts, as well as recommendations on how to pair them. If after the meal you are still hungry, they also offer an al carte menu for you to order more. We got their milk ice cream with soy bean powder at the end, and I absolutely loved it. Would love to come back here sometime.

    literally everything don

My boyfriend secretly booked Ume for my birthday/our anniversary celebration, without even knowing I'd been dying to go. The garden seating is beautiful despite being a bit too shiny. The whole ambiance is so zen and relaxing which makes it perfect for a special occasion. Huge shoutout to the impeccable service: we were 30 minutes late stuck at traffic, but they still graciously held our table. They even surprised us with vanilla gelato with honey and kinako on the house, easily one of the most delicious scoops I've ever had. *Sushi Set $78 pp It was such a fun and interactive experience making our own hand rolls from a sashimi platter. We loved being able to enjoy everything at our own pace, customizing each piece with a variety of dipping sauces and special salts. It really encouraged me to slow down, savor every bite, and fully appreciate each piece. *Literally Everything Don $60 We were greedy to try more so we got one more kaishindon. Expensive but you get what you pay for: uni, ikura, scallop, toro, a5 miyazaki wagyu, caviar, and more. Every bite was pure luxury and satisfying. I only hoped I could only get this don as I was too full after finishing the sushi set, but they require at least one sushi set per person. *King Salmon Nigiri To be completely transparent, my bf found a small bone in his sashimi. He was given a completely new set, and they even treated us to king salmon nigiri. We really appreciated how proactive and thoughtful they were so it didn't affect our overall experience at all.

TL;DR I'd dine here again for a special occasion! I dined here as a party of 4 for a girl's night out. The ambiance is really nice. While we didn't get seated in the sunroom, it was a lovely area. I enjoyed the experience of sitting on the ground (with pillows) and removing shoes before heading to the dining area. Facilities are kept very clean, and if you need to use the bathroom (which is within the dining area), slippers are provided. This place didn't rush us out after a certain amount of time (while many other omakase restaurants in the city do), which I really appreciated. The food itself: I personally felt only 3/12 pieces were stand out. Some of the pieces were mushy, and right after my set was served, teh sushi pieces were "sweating" on my plate. They provide the 12 pieces and the condiments (that was my fave part of the experience), seaweed, soup and rice. It is somewhat of a "choose your own adventure" since you have the variety of condiments, fish, seaweed, and rice all at once. I recommend pacing yourself, and eating parts of the sushi pieces in order to eat some with the seaweed and/or rice. The difference with the typical sushi counter omakases is those come with the rice proportioned with the fish, and you get it fresh, as soon as it's made, which also helps with the pacing of eating the food. It's a beautiful presentation, though, and I enjoyed the uniqueness of the condiments.

5 stars for a unique & delicious curated experience provided by employees who seem to be extremely proud of their creations & setting. As stated, you will both have to remove your shoes and sit on the floor, on a small square pilow without the ability to lean back on a wall or support. This may be a challenge for some, I am thankful that at almost 62 years old, my Pilates classes helped to make this possible for me. It is not an easy way for older folks to sit, if they have not typically been sitting or dining like this. The sushi is exquisite, interestingly prepared and presented, with fun little bursts of salt/wasabi. At first, I thought that we would certainly need to swing by for a slice after due to being hungry, but that idea faded by the 10th piece of fish as I was extremely full. We did have a beer about an hour before, so there's that. I'd recommend leaving valuable shoes at home for this experience as they are left, fairly unattended, in the front dim room. While this might never happen, one could easily swap their old sneakers for a pair of Manolos. We do not live nearby, but it was incredibly easy to take the train into the city and pick up the L. Very easy. The area is lovely to explore, you have the waterfront & the wonderful Marsha P Johnson State Park where teams were playing soccer into the evening. I would return in a heartbeat, Lee, was one & done with the criss cross apple sauce seating.

We had an unforgettable experience at Ume for my mom's birthday! Everything from the atmosphere to the service made the night special. It took us a bit to find the storefront (rain didn't help!), so I do wish the sign was a little bigger. They run on a set schedule, but we didn't wait long from our reservation time. You remove your shoes and wash your hands before entering, which adds a nice traditional touch. The preset menu includes 12 unique nigiri pieces served in an aesthetic way, and you can order more afterward. I only wish we had more room! They even surprised us with what seemed like vanilla ice cream topped with peanut shavings, which ended up being our favorite part. Big thanks to our enthusiastic server for making the evening so memorable!

Food was good but I felt like i'm paying for so for the experience. Staff were truly soooo kind and attentive. Willing and prepared to answer any questions. Right when you step into the restaurant it already feels like you've stepped into another part pf the world. Ambiance truly an experience.

Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

We started with the salmon belly carpaccio which I'd say isn't really a carpaccio because the salmon isn't sliced as thinly as you'd expect. But! I mention that just to set expectations. Nomenclature aside, it's an excellent appetizer. Served in a truffle and ponzu sauce, the salmon is lightly seared which yields two different textures to the fish. It practically melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this dish. For my entree I went with the trio don, which is 6 pieces of sashimi served over your choice of plain or sushi rice (sushi rice for me). The fish was fresh and flavorful. The portion was perfect for me. My boyfriend ordered a yellowtail roll and enjoyed that as well. We also shared a carafe of the cold house sake. I'd definitely come back and try more items on the menu. It's great for sharing and trying new dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable.

Lots of people came in and out for takeout orders so that seems to be more of the target audience. Service was quick and polite, we were there until 9:30 and they definitely seemed ready for us to be out of there before the 10PM closing time. As for the specialty rolls, there were some pretty creative options - don't shy away from seemingly odd combinations because the flavors really do work well together. I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. I enjoyed the Lovers Dream and Golden Sunset roll the most. While I was debating it while ordering, in hindsight I would definitely get two rolls per person, maybe more if you're really hungry.

All the flavors complemented each other beautifully. The strawberry sauce was unexpected but surprisingly worked! I love unique flavor combinations, and this one did not disappoint. The Torched King roll was also excellent. Salmon is my go-to for sushi, and the light torching gave it a subtle smoky flavor that I loved.
