This was such a fun and unique experience!! The food was so fresh and delicious. The fatty tuna was melt in your mouth. The wagyu was super smoky and seared perfectly. The eel was my favorite!! So delicious. Very generous portions as well. Highly recommend.

Everything, including service was quality as expected. The only thing I wish is that the chef explained the pieces of sushi more.

Solid omakase place with fresh fish and tasty pieces! What set them apart was the service and the generous chefs! For a ~$70 course, you get 13 pieces. My favorites were: - sablefish w/ yuzu pepper for the fresh tender fish, almost-sweet and tangy yuzu, and the slight kick from the chili pepper paste - hotate because im a scallop girly but also because it was well seasoned with its charcoal salt and the bright citrus notes from the lime zest - otoro because Im usually more of a chutoro person, but the meat: fat ratio of this otoro, paired with the umami burst from the caviar that helped cut the richness, surprised me in a great way! - chutoro handroll had the perfect balance of tuna, daikon, rice, and crispy seaweed The chef helped celebrate the birthday of a lady next to us and offered us some sake as well. Our entire dinner shift sang happy birthday to this lady which was really cute! Chef even gave each party extra slices of some salmon, tuna, and yellowtail!! The limited seating and tight knit setting makes it feel very intimate and easy to connect with the staff!

Simply outstanding, the vibes are so fun the chefs are always pouring your alcohol, every bite is a work of art and it's an overall great value for the quality. 13 pieces all incredible I loved the sablefish, fatty otoro and the unagi bites the most, but everything was fresh and incredible. The sushi just melts in your mouth and the chefs are so kind and friendly. There are about 12 seats around the chef counter so it's small and intimate setting. Don't miss out on trying shinzo it is such a gem! The shinzo special is definitely something fun to try too- they layer all the most top notch ingredients (wagyu, caviar, toro) into one big massive bite and it's so so good.

I had an incredible experience here. The chefs were attentive, skilled, and clearly experts in sushi. Every piece was exceptional. My favorites were the smoked mackerel and the sablefish, plus the special wagyu scallop uni toro roll. That roll was such an insane bite that it felt like it should be illegal. The vibe is simple and relaxed. It is not stuffy, and they play fun 90s music that keeps things light. Overall, a really enjoyable meal. I highly recommend it.

Nothing can beat $70 omakase in NY Shinzo has been my favorite place when it comes to affordable omakase. The rice was warm and great ratio, fishes are super fresh, I really enjoyed my birthday lunch at Shinzo. My favorite bite is the sweet prawn with uni and the wagyu

Amazing service and the course was so good! $69 is very affordable for this quality of sushi. Definitely was very tasty and I remember all the pieces and each one was super unique and high quality. Really satisfies my omakase cravings. On top of this there's no corkage fee so I brought a bottle of wine and they were even so attentive to pour it all for my party. My favorites were definitely the botan ebi with uni and the ootoro with caviar. Their uni was very tasty and great for the price. I've had better in top tier places but this is amazing for the price you pay. Better than a lot of sushi around the area. I had to get an extra bluefin tuna and scallop add on roll and this was a highlight as well because the scallop was super fresh. A5 Wagyu was very flavorful and left me very happy. A few other notable pieces are the chutoro and the Spanish mackerel. The lighting and environment is very comfortable and clean and very worthwhile experience as they sat 5 people comfortably in the corner of the bar which was very nice of them as we got to chat and talk easily! Thank you Shinzo omakase!

Shinzo Omakase is one of the best value-for-money sushi spots in NYC. For $69, you get a full omakase set of sushi only -- no appetizers or dessert, but the quality is impressive for the price. Highlights: * Yellowtail: clean, fresh, and perfectly fatty. * Seared cod: aromatic and satisfying. * Sweet shrimp with uni: creamy and rich. * Goose liver with salmon: heavy and oily, depends on taste. * Tuna trio (lean, medium, fatty): excellent progression, with medium fatty tuna as the standout. * Shellfish: fresh and crunchy. Service is quick, atmosphere is casual, and the overall value makes it worth trying if you're looking for omakase in NYC without spending $150+.

One of my favorite omakase spots at the moment! Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. I always ask what uni they use and when I wentnin Nov 2025, they used Hokkaido uni which was so sweet and creamy. The chef, Sky, was so nice and we chatted quite a bit. He has a lot of experience and he made each piece with a lot of care. Definitely coming back here again!

I thought it was too good to be true to find an amazing omakase deal of 13 courses for $69pp with high quality fish but HERE IT IS!!! I swear by this spot it's fantastic. Some of my highlights are the fatty tuna with caviar, A5 wagyu beef and Spanish mackerel. Every piece Mets in your mouth with so much flavor. The pacing is perfectly timed, and they play really fun music in a cozy, unpretentious setting. DEFINITELY repeating!!!

Fabulous experience . Omikase only although you can add something additional at the end . Timed seatings . The fish was wonderful . Some inventive combinations such as Wagyu with uni knocked me out .Id definitely return next time I'm in NYC .

Wow! This was my first omakase experience ever and Shinzo made it so special! My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and they made it special! The sushi was so fresh and it was so fun eating omakase style. The place was clean and cozy. The rice was just perfect. I am looking forward to coming back! The service was also great! Very attentive and friendly.

Awesome omakase experience. Every piece was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared--especially the scallop, uni, and wagyu. The chef, Sky, was friendly and used to work at Thirteen Water (another omakase spot in the area). I really liked this place because the flavor combos were delicious and they do not skimp on their fish. Highly recommend this place!

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

konban is a modern Japanese restaurant that focuses on creative takes on classic comfort dishes,…read moreespecially katsu, noodles, and small plates. We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.

The ube tiramisu was free since we wrote a google review for the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the zucchini was surprisingly good as well. The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu. Overall, I would come back and would definitely recommend konban! Get the corn ribs, zucchini, pork katsu, and corn ice cream! I've taken a lot of friends here over the course of 10 years, and without fail, every one of them has walked out mindblown--and why wouldn't they?! The wait times have gotten better over the years (probably because people are waiting for the restaurant next door), but the food and drinks here are still top-notch. Staff is always great, and they all work so efficiently. I am generally a fan of izakayas, but there are very few that offer plates that are designed to be shareable, and this is one of the reasons the food here is so enjoyable in a small group setting. I am obviously biased and think they can do no wrong, but some of my staples that have stood the test of time: Kimchi cream udon, avocado tofu salad, salmon sashimi tacos, and the kani cream croquettes.
