PERFECT! California roll and Caliente roll!

Beautiful. Delicious. Kind server. Great fun! The fresh fish and perfect wasabi were SOOOO good!

Awesome service. Great food. Loved the ramen and everyone enjoyed the sushi. The sushi chef went above and beyond with his presentation.

Went for the first time today to change things up a bit -- and have been looking forward to coming here for a while now. The food didn't disappoint at all! Genuinely friendly service. And the location is super cozy -- makes me feel like I'm on a mini vacation visiting from Ashland. Be back soon!

We tried a couple rolls and ramen before an evening Britt show. The sushi rice in the rolls was not seasoned with enough rice vinegar. It detracted from the flavor and made it feel one-dimensional. The ramen broth was also watered down and lacked complexity. The Japanese ramen came with chicken that was dry and overly-charred on the edges, tainting the broth flavor with bitterness. The Korean ramen was better, but lacked the more aggressive spiciness I've had in other Korean ramens. Lastly, I don't normally knock places for small issues like this, but as soon as we poured the soy sauce in one of our dipping bowls, we saw a dark hair float up to the top of the sauce. In the grand scheme of things, this didn't help. Unfortunately I won't be back.

Very honest fresh fish and good service. I sat at the sushi bar and kept an eye on the basketball game on the tv. Not too busy but not empty.

They don't take reservations, so we had to wait, but it was worth it! Rolls were fresh, bento box was ample and the poke was possibly the best I've had outside of Hawaii. Servers were friendly and efficient. Those with mobility issues should be aware that entry into Umi Sushi is by 2 steep steps with no handrail.

I love this place! It was the first sushi place (and restaurant) I went to in the valley, back in 2013. Been coming back ever since. My favorite thing to get there is a Chirashi bowl with the spicy sauce on the side. The fish is always fresh and there's such a wide assortment in the bowl. They also have fresh wasabi Recommend you go give them a try! I only go for weekday lunch (Mon-Thurs). It gets busy for dinner/weekends. There's only limited street parking.

I dropped by Umi Sushi tonight for the first time ever, an hour and a half before closing on a January Wednesday, and was seated right away. I knew what I wanted as I checked out the menu ahead of time and everything I ordered came out very quickly. The service was great and I enjoyed being seated at a table even though I was dining alone because they were not too busy tonight. I ordered the raw oysters appetizer and the oysters were great. I wish the seasoning wasn't sprinkled on them and the dish came out with just the ponzu sauce as the server described as the seasoning takes away from the oysters' flavor in this case. Good to know for next time. Even the lemon slice had seasoning sprinkled on it so I didn't squeeze the juice this time. Sashimi A combination was generous - you will see in the photo that for one of the three varieties of fish, I was given an extra slice, which I appreciated, but I did not realize a sashimi combo of nine pieces would only have three types of fish in it. That's not usually the case with sushi restaurants and I wish I knew that ahead of time. The server clarified that the bigger sashimi platter, Sashimi C, would feature the most fish varieties, which does make sense. I just expect a $21 nine-piece sashimi entrée to warn me ahead of time I'm just getting three types of fish. It was otherwise fresh and good; miso soup is included with this entrée. For next time, I will make sure to ask for the pickled wasabi to be left off the plate as its juice reached the daikon and the fish slices and I did not want nor need that spice there. Presentation was great. Service was great. My review is a four star because of the lack of variety in a sashimi entrée, and is value-based.

So many great rolls and nigiri!

This sushi bar is one of my favorites in Southern Oregon. It doesn't look very special on the outside, as it sits in the historical district of Jacksonville. But once you're inside, it feels just right for a great meal. The place isn't real big, but for small parties of 4 or less it's perfect. The wait staff is super nice and the chefs and kitchen help are on top of their tasks. But most importantly, the fish is always super fresh and tasty. I've had most of their rolls and lots of sushi nigiri. I can tell you that I've never been disappointed in anything they served. My favorite is tuna, and they do it great. Cut from fresh loins (not saku blocks) so it's always tender. I highly recommend Umi! Trust...

Outstanding dinner @ Umi Sushi! Smaller, cozy establishment with charm and unique decor. Special thank you to chefs for your delicious creations! We loved absolutely everything and left very full and happy. We ordered an ice tea, Snow Maiden sake, edamame, cucumber salad, bento box, and the best sushi we had in a long time! All the staff were hard working, tending to happy, satisfied patrons. We had the pleasure of sitting front row at the counter and we could tell the sushi chef was delighted to create his edible masterpieces!

The chicken katsu was yummy, nice and crisp. The sauce it came with was good but our server James recommended their house made sesame dressing on the side with it and he was right...so good! I really liked the three star roll. It was nice and light. I love fresh lemon slices in sushi rolls which is why we ordered this one. I do think it would be even better if the rind were left on the lemon slices. Other than that it was really good and I'd totally order it again. The black widow roll. Fried soft shell crab with unagi. Soo delicious. The scallop roll was good. The scallop was really smooth and fresh. The only other things I noticed were: The wasabi had a bluish tint to it, which to me indicates food coloring so we did not eat it which was too bad because we love wasabi and it would've been so good with the rolls. I wish they would use a different wasabi without the blue coloring. I think a bell on the front door would be good to let employees/sushi chef that customers have arrived. Because its kinda awkward to stand there at the entrance waiting. So at least if there was a bell then the sushi chef could greet right away and let people know to sit. I also think some sort of electric doorbell that is attached to the front door but dings in the back outside to let servers outside know that customers have arrived so they can check back sometime. Because I know the outdoor back patio seating is much busier than indoor dining. When we arrived inside, we stood for quite some time before the sushi chef noticed and greeted and told us we can sit anywhere. And then it took awhile until someone came to bring menus because there were no servers inside. There was a lady who was already sitting at a table inside when we arrived and she didn't get a menu until we did. So she waited quite a bit. *and by the way these are not complaints about the servers at all* I know that it was busy outside and that people rarely choose to sit inside. And there's no bell or anything to let the servers outside know that there's people inside, so absolutely no fault to the servers. I just think there needs to be a better system put in place by management. Like if there were 2 servers, have them both dedicated for outside but as soon as indoor dining customers arrive, maybe 1 of the servers serves inside and then also helps outside when they're free? As a past server myself, these are just things I noticed and I think would make the business run smoother and make it easier/less hectic for the servers. Lastly, I think music inside would be really great. It's super quiet and kinda awkward vibes. Especially when customers come in and wait and it's silent. Anyways, the food was great and our server James was fantastic. Did a really great job despite being so busy. Super friendly, personable, and made great recommendations. We would come back. Just really wish the wasabi didn't have the blue food coloring.

It was also strange to add Korean dishes as well but I'm sure it tastes fine. I ordered the Poke and it was pretty good. I was happy with the portion and the amount of ahi tuna as well as the seasoning. There was seating outside by a creek but there was a large fire happening nearby, possibly in Medford and hot as heck and people were still out there. Parking was tight on a Sunday evening at 5pm but we were able to find some close by. Not a whole lot to handicap parking was available.

A huge shout-out to Kaylin, who consistently goes above and beyond. She is always smiling, genuinely welcoming, and happy to make great recommendations. They do not have on the menu iced tea, but rather than simply telling me they do not, she brings me a cup of ice along with hot green tea so I can make my own. It's a small thing, but it perfectly represents her approach to customer service. The sushi itself is remarkable, and the chefs clearly appreciate their customers. They routinely do little extra things that make us feel valued and create a level of service that really stands out. We generally spend around $100 for two people, including one alcoholic beverage and green tea, which I consider very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and service, especially in today's economy. The only thing which surprises me is that the restaurant often seems slower than I would expect. We've been on both Mondays and Saturdays, and I honestly don't understand why this place isn't packed. Hiro Sushi has officially become our new favorite sushi restaurant, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Exceptional food, wonderful people, and the kind of customer service that keeps you coming back.
