I don't know what's changed since the last time we've been here (it's been a while) but this was a horrible experience. Both servers didn't care to attend us. My kid even had to ask "when are we going to get our menus" since it had already been a while since we were seated. Very monotone customer service. When we requested some sriracha we were given a very cold "sure." You almost feel guilty for even asking. I'm sorry but we won't be coming back. We should've known better the minute we walked in and we were told "sit in the middle table." No greeting. No acknowledgment. The vibe was completely off. Food was okay. This WAS a regular spot for us. We visit from an hour away, a small town, to come here and have a special family lunch that consists of rolls of sushi. Along our visit yesterday, I didn't think twice about the cleanliness until first thing first, my husband takes our little son into the bathroom and comes out saying the floors were sticky and there was pee all over floor and yernal, and a broken toilet seat. Pubic hair was all over the toilet and no seat covers. The women's bathroom was OK. So after using the bathroom, it got me wondering how clean the rest of the restaurant was. I looked at the table, now we got there AT opening, 11:30, and I was thinking, "well the tables should be clean, we are the first in them." NOPE Pieces of rice here and there and in the crack between the two tables put together. (Pics for reference.) We are a bit grossed out, so I decide to go get some Lysol wipes from the car and on my way out, notice all the finger handprints all over the doors. That really should have been my que to leave but I decided since we drove all that way and the kids were all excited to stay and see how the food is- given we have had such good sushi time and time again in the past. Come back in, wipe the table off. Sanitize my kids hands. Waitress comes up, very just autopilot/emotionless, takes our order. Food comes out at a good time, but the older lady delivering it doesn't have any warmth & doesn't tell us what each of the 4 rolls are (like they have in the past!) Sushi rolls look thrown together and not tightly rolled, once again not like the past. Not a lot of fish or fried prawns inside them. We paid a 10% tip even tho we felt like the waitress all she did was get us our drinks and take our order. No service with a smile :) ! After close to $50, 2 California rolls, & 4 special rolls, we were left still unsatisfied and still hungry. I will be posting a pic from 2018 experience, to now. This place has gone downhill and I wouldn't be surprised if they get a health inspection soon. read more

We tried this place yesterday and we became a fan! Good portion on the Bento box, clean, great atmosphere, the fish was fresh, the service was good, the only thing is that the wasabi is not hot enough. But that does not affect us from eating here again. My ohana ( family ) and I are not a big fan of rolls, we like to eat fresh raw fish, you gotta see my son who's 10 and my 6 year old daughter demolish raw fish, amazing! lol. My ohana are Hawaiian and part Japanese, cant tell but they are. So, I think they know when its fresh or frozen. Most of the sushi place, there fish is freshly thawed, not fresh from the ocean fresh. But i said MOST not all of the sushi places. There are some that serves fresh catch fish. Anyways, I recommend this place. We will be back for more. 4 Stars! read more

I would recommend for an appetizer Yakitori (chicken skewers) or soft shell crab (fried w/sauce). I personally enjoy the hand rolled spicy scallop roll, if hand roll is your favorite. My favorite sushi a la carte is either the Crispy Alaska Roll (deep fried salmon cream cheese & honey mustard) , the redhead roll ( crab ,spicy tuna avocado & spicy mayo ) or the M16 (deep fried soft shell crab, cucumber, crab topped with tuna & sauces). Came on a Friday night. They were seating at full capacity but we didn't mind because we were 4 people at a 6 top so we still had room. At first our server was Dolly then a cute little Asian girl took over. They both gave us great service. We sat by the server alley and could hardly see the sushi chefs. Our friend got her bento box before our two rolls so she sat a good 15m waiting for us to get our rolls. Food was good, Dolly helped me decide. Once I got home I noticed that they placed 2 sets of different sushi's in one box making it look very unpleasant and made nauseous just by looking at it. Didn't even know which one was which.. I tried the Lion king roll and it tasted old. The shrimp tempura was extremely hard. I called the manager up and she was very rude when I told her my situation. She then proceeded to tell me that when they receive take out orders they put all the same sushi's one box. Which I find very ridiculous because plating is import. She also had the nerve to tell me that next time I want to take out again that I would have to let them know to put all sushi's in different boxes... doesn't make sense! My boyfriend and I love coming here. They have $6-8 happy hour rolls that are to die for. We are never disappointed with the food. Fresh ingredients. If you want to drop a bunch of cash on their bigger rolls, it's totally worth it because its just THAT good. And get this (I asked because I didn't want low sodium soy sauce and all their bottles are low sodium soy sauce) it's not low sodium!!!! The waitress told me that they MAKE their soy sauce and just use those bottles. Which would kind of be a bad thing if someone actually was watching their salt intake!!! It's the worst soy sauce ever. It tastes funny and leaves a weird taste in your mouth. I joked with someone that I need to bring soy sauce packets when I come because I HATE their homemade version. Only good thing about this place is the beer and sake is cheap. They also do half off their rolls Monday through Thursday, but honestly, it's not worth it for garbage sushi. The food is good. The service is just alright, but it dosent matter since I go here often. I enjoy the quick ramen but it's not something fancy. It's just instant ramen but it's still got nice flavors and veggies added to it. Good for $9 I also really like the bento boxes and udon. In general, I would recommend going here. read more

I think the Modesto restaurant inspectors need to visit this dingy restaurant and put a fire under their butts. Their web site is really bad, with pictures of rolls and descriptions that are poorly done, like they took a picture of the menu with their iPhone. This time, (my last) I ordered a Bento box and a Rocky Roll, $26.00. The Bento had beef teriyaki, which was old, tough meat, it came with 2 slices of California roll, even though the picture shows 6 pieces. Meat portion was very meager, and placed on a heaping of shredded cabbage to make it look fuller. The roll... oh God, the roll was horrible. Threw out most of it. Horrible service. Went on a Tuesday just after 3pm. The place wasn't busy. One couple was waiting to be seated ahead of me. Drink orders were taken for them. I looked at the menu where you wait and quickly determined what to order since I looked at the menu ahead of time, and looked at the two waitresses yet to be acknowledged at all. A few minutes later another couple comes in and the waitresses seat them still without acknowledging me even though I'd been obviously waiting for a while. Finally, one asked me, "here or to-go." I said, "To-go." She said okay. Then, went on to take drink orders for the couple that arrived after me. She waited on another table, then said 1 minute. The other waitress had made eye contact with me several times, but never acknowledged me even when there were breaks between customers and when serving the customers right in front of where I was waiting. I was told 1 minute again after she brought a to-go box and fetched an additional to-go box for a dine-in family. The other waitress and her started talking near the back, and was told 1 minute again. At this point it had been 15-20 minutes, and I just thought F it, this place doesn't deserve business and left. I'm pretty sure this is my first Yelp review... but I was just really irritated at how they didn't seem to care at all. At least acknowledge your waiting customers! They are trying to be patient and understanding, but it doesn't take but a few seconds to acknowledge them when they walk in and you CLEARLY see them! They've only been open about a week or so. After I finished my combo bento, I finished the wife and daughters, too. So it was a "buffet man" experience to me.
