We live about 5 minutes away from Umiya so when it's lunch time we take advantage of their Lunch Special Menu. You can choose any 2 Rolls for $8.95 or any 3 Rolls for $11.95. We definitely get the bang for our buck! We also order a few Baked New Zealand Mussels, they are so yummy, highly recommend. Even when we aren't dining in the food still tastes delicious. Service is always great when we go fine in and the ambiance is fun, clean and inviting. I'm so glad we live close because we get to enjoy lots and lots of sushi. read more

This specific Umiya is a great place to have lunch. Not the full menu at lunch, but you can have 80% of the dinner menu at only $21.95. Can you imagine that? Decent AYCE sushi for $22? That's only a pipe dream for some people. Service is always top notch, waiters always coming by to check in and offering a top up or new round of orders. Drinks consistently refilled, bussers always bringing food out quickly. I feel like the Live Oak location is run far better than the I-10 location. TVs with sports are usually playing around the bar. You can get full AYCE service at the bar, which is a huge plus. They have a very robust alcohol menu and the bartenders can put in new food orders right there! Great place to be for lunch. Dinner costs more, but still well worth it! read more

My parents invited us to Umiya for lunch on Saturday, we were impressed! The location shares a parking lot with Texas Roadhouse, so be prepared to park in the back if you come for dinner - we found space closer up front since we came by around 1 pm. The food is delicious; my family opted for the all you can eat; I ordered a bento box and it was a great deal: chicken teriyaki, fried rice, fried shrimp, and gyoza for under $13. I ordered a nonalcoholic Japanese mule and it was great - I plan on trying the cocktails next time. My husband commented that the sushi was fresh and he liked the concept of the server bringing plates as you're eating versus a buffet style. We definitely plan to come back; we also plan to visit the i10 location to see which one is better! read more

We chose this place on a whim and I must say, I'm happy we did. The greeting entering the restaurant as well as the cleanliness was what caught my attention. Everyone was so nice and our server, Mia was such a gem! She was very helpful and attentive. We never had to ask for anything but she also gave us space to enjoy ourselves. Kudos! Absolutely love this place! I went for lunch between classes to get some schoolwork done, and I'll just say I was not disappointed. And the music was on point! Very hip hop Christmas and I loved it. I got the all you can eat lunch special and I wish I was hungrier. I could only put away 4 rolls & some crab puffs but everything was so good. I got the California roll while I searched the menu for good specialty rolls. I proceeded to get the shaggy dog, Texas, and Lexington rolls. Giving it 3 stars due to the service we had during Mother's Day. It's All You Can Eat and our server did not explain anything to us and it was our first time there. The reason why I mentioned that because the table next to us - their server actually gave them a whole schpiel about the menu and how everything works. Our first order was fine, but after we got our food, our server was nowhere to be found! We were ready to order more food and we were out of drinks, but we had to wait for a long time before we can get any service. I'm so happy they opened a location near me. I love the portion sizes for the sushi and sashimi. I also love that there really isn't a limit (execpt per serving) The restaurant itself was pretty cozy and clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Even the restrooms were clean. Not Buc-ee's clean, but clean. Food... to get our money's worth we avoided (as much as possible) anything with rice. However, I couldn't resist getting a spicy salmon hand role. Those are really yummy. We started with mostly sashimi and some of the sashimi flavored appetizers. The photo is of (starting from the top) Salmon Tataki, Pepper Tuna, Tuna Cappaccio, and Yellowtail on Fire. All very delicious, but overall, my favorites were the Tuna Cappaccio and Yellowtail on Fire. Kinda wish they had a Salmon Cappaccio or even a Scallops Cappaccio! I wish I got a photo of the Fried Oreos!! Those were deadly delicious! I was so full, I kinda wanted to get more. I also got the green tea ice cream (wasn't a fan). Overall, I had to give this place 5 stars Those fried oreos though!!! read more

We decided to give this "Sushi/Sashimi" restaurant a look. I can't recall what restaurant used to reside at this location. Anyhow, interior decoration is standard with a "sushi" establishment. Service was decent and friendly staff. But appeared to be unfamiliar with the menu. Although, the staff stated she was Japanese. I might be picky, the staff couldn't tell me where in Japan she lived. Which has no influence on my assessment. The sashimi is ok, nothing that stood out as a WOW! Gotta order that again next time. Standard cream cheese assortment as with all rolls in S.A. Sashimi was descent, miso soup was also fair. It's a all you can eat, so decide what you want and how hungry are you. Might be best to order straight from menu. May save you a couple of bucks. Overall, nice place, not noisy, decor is fine and the food (sorry to say but standard). Nothing was spectacular. read more

Honestly? I was prepared to be dissatisfied and disappointed when I saw that the "chefs choice" part of the platter were not other rolls, but nigiri sushi. I'm personally not a fan of nigiri as I prefer more flavors. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed them and did note the fish varieties all to be tender and melt in your mouth well. Even the shrimp nigiri wasn't rubbery or terrible! The miso soup was also delicious and so were the two rolls they had on the platter. We also got the calamari, it's 10 rings, but quite nice, though I prefer the tentacles It was also very nice to note that the "sushi for two" was actually enough for two solid sushi eaters! We would have been fine even without the calamari. Restaurant: very high end, clean, nice appeal. Truly felt more like fine dinning rather than a "buffet" style some all-you-can-eat places have. Overall: very impressed with the quality of sushi and will absolutely be back and next time trying the all you can eat option! And I'm picky with my sushi quality! I come from the border or Washington and Oregon which has high Asian populations and very high quality and tasty sushi! read more

Came to try out the new sushi spot in town. The atmosphere was nice, they were decorated for Halloween which was cute. The waitress was very nice and accommodating when my child decided she only wanted to eat an avocado... I got the all you can eat option along with a tequila sunrise, the rolls were all delicious and I was pleasantly surprised that the mango was perfect and flavorful. My dinner companions got the chicken teriyaki, salmon avocado roll, and the avocado roll. Also tried out tempura cheesecake and Oreos which were great. All dishes were up to par with our expectations. My all you can eat was $31 and then I got an additional lemonade along with the alcohol for a grand total of $45. When i first moved to san antonio i was so happy to find a ayce sushi, so i was coming here regularly. I havent been to this location for about 5 months the last time wasn't bad but you could clearly tell they were understaffed. Today was by far my worst visit ever, not because of the food or the staff because of the sanitation!! My family and I were swarmed by gnat flies at first it was one or two then it was a whole flock getting on our food our drink the soy sauce, it was so overwhelming and gross we asked to be seated somewhere else but by then our appetite had gone away, but guess what they brought out to the previous table a gnat fly trap! So they know they have a problem or else why would they display one like a center piece at a table. We ordered maybe one more thing but during the wait the gnat flies came right back. I think they should consider shutting down for one day and cleaning up cause that experience gave health code violation. read more

It seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling alone, being welcomed back like that can completely change your evening. What really impressed me was seeing that it wasn't just me. The guy next to me ordered two pizzas to go, and when the chef brought them out he smiled and said, "Oh, Jose! I thought this order looked familiar!" You can tell they actually know their regulars and genuinely enjoy what they do. The second night I ordered the Fontina e Salsiccia, and somehow it was just as good as the first pizza. Everything is cooked in the wood-fired oven--even the wings--and you can taste the difference. I am honestly really disappointed with my experience at Umiya. I've been here multiple times before and never had an issue, which made this visit even more frustrating. This is an all you can eat restaurant, yet we waited over 15 minutes just to place an order. Our waiter, Ferri, was extremely inattentive. We were left sitting with empty plates, watching other tables get taken care of while we were completely ignored. No check-ins, no explanation nothing. At an all you can eat place, slow and careless service completely ruins the experience, and that's exactly what happened here. I expected much better based on my past visits to Umiya, but this visit left me feeling annoyed and let down. It's not a good feeling to pay for an experience and feel forgotten. Unless service improves, I'm very hesitant to return. read more

I've been back to Umiya four times now, and it keeps delivering on every level. The food is consistently incredible, the service is top-notch, and the bar vibe is exactly what I'm looking for after a long day. The martinis? Fantastic. All of them! A special shoutout to Alex, who is a phenomenal bartender. He takes the time to listen, understand your preferences, and creates cocktails that match perfectly.
