This trendy boutique in Wicker Park is definitely a hidden gem. A little pricey but well worth it for all the great finds! I've gotten everything from mink pink rompers to pineapple shot glasses here. There is also a basement filled with vintage items. I came across this store on my way to bootcamp. The girls running the shop were super friendly and I found and purchased a really cute vintage wrap skirt. It was pretty affordable but some of the other stuff seemed to be a little overpriced for being vintage. read more

This store has some really cool clothes, and if you hunt, some okay prices. Their new clothes are quite spendy, though, so stick with the thrift. Also, the size selection is rather narrow... xs and s, so if you have any meat on your bones, you'll have to dig. The staff is great though, and tell funny stories while you shop! read more

I usually spend more time looking through the upstairs vintage section than the new stuff. The new items are nice but fairly typical for these kinds of boutiques (in the women's section, predominantly stuff from BB Dakota and Tulle that you can easily find elsewhere), with pretty standard pricing for those brands. The men's stuff seems to run more expensive for some reason. The quality of the vintage selections varies; it's mostly 70s and 80s, with some recent stuff (e.g. Old Navy) kind of indiscriminately tossed in as well. Prices on the vintage stuff is pretty reasonable. I came away with an 80s-ish green striped bucket bag for $16 but didn't find much else. If I recall, the vintage stuff has fairly detailed size information on the tags. They have a fair amount of interesting new and vintage jewelry, though I've never bought any. read more

I love Una Mae's! I have to be honest though. I was a patron 10 years ago when it was Una Mae's Freak Boutique, so I was a little hesitant when I stopped in & found it pretty different than it used to be, but upon seeing the vintage in the basement I found it had the same quirky vibe that I love. I really like the mix of the upstairs current lines with the eclectic vintage feel from their old store & the basement. And Nancy is awesome! She was so nice & personable & of course has impeccable taste. read more

this is my favorite boutique in all of Chicago. they stock great brands and don't stock a single item that feels unnecessary -- it's like urban outfitters with ALL the fat trimmed. it really feels like a "collection," and I've found super-current things here I haven't really seen elsewhere in the city. (slim cargos and floral shirts super cute for men's fall '11) other pluses: helpful staff (I had a nice conversation with the dude about taking care of raw selvedge jeans and about the company that made them), no salespersonly pressure to spend all the money in the world, and a REALLY well curated vintage rack in the back. the only minus: it's pretty expensive but that's because of the brands themselves, not the store. read more

Unlike the rest of the overpriced, designer trendy boutiques opening down WP/Bucktown (I just spotted a Bebe store on Damen- whoa!) Una Mae's still rules. I agree with Meg's statement and like how it's evolved. Although I did love the original store's heavier concentration of edited, vintage finds (I got the perfect dress for a wedding here that fit me like a glove for $11), I think the support of independent and local designers is admirable. I struggle still to walk out of there without buying something especially since most of the goods are less than $100. The people that have worked there have always been perfectly attentive - laid back, but helpful when needed. My only complaint (and I struggled to come up with one) is that they are always blasting hiphop. Always. read more

I use to love this place when it was small a full of great vintage clothing with a lot of great new clothing like Tulle and Gentle Fawn. They have moved now into a bigger space which at first I was really happy for them but now I think it may have gotten to their heads. The owner has always been super sweet and helpful so I give her four stars but the staff is so rude and stuck up. I was just in a couple of days ago and the girl working with dark hair didn't even give a crap that I walked in. No hello,no how are you,no can I help you with anything,NOTHING!!! She just stood there on her stupid iphone and had better things to do then give a crap that I was a customer that may buy something. I actually wanted to buy some things but I slowly walked out right in front of her and not even a have a good day. She might as well have just said I don't give a s... that you are here or not. It's really sad because I want to support a local business and this isn't the first time she has had a tude so I'm fed up with it. After running the gauntlet of trendy Wicker Park boutiques and vintage shops, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across Una Mae's. The shop is beautifully arranged, and it's obvious from the moment that you step in that the wares have been lovingly curated. It's also on-trend, true, but overall, their collection has this aura of being sturdy and well-made, the kinds of things you could have in your wardrobe for years. I recognized most of the brand names for women as being quality goods - Chelsea Crew and Tulle come to mind right off of the bat - and the pricing was fair. They had great leather and canvas messenger bags, beautiful shoes, and some fun t-shirts (I particularly dug a gray t that just said "Whiskey"). My favorite thing about the shop, however, was the amazing array of scented items. If you're sensitive to smells, might not be the place for you, but if, like me, you're always looking for new perfumes, essential oils, soaps and candles by small/indie brands, you'll dig this place. They also had a great selection of personal care items, like mustache wax, beard oil, cleansers, lotions, and shaving stuff. Definitely worth checking out. read more

I want to say this place has the WORST SERVICE and the WORST girls working at the store. They don't greet the customers unless your buying something at the register. They don't step outside the counter to be honest. I am a stylist/blogger working on a TV segment and was told this place has cool casual clothing.....and yes they do have cool clothing however I would not spend a dime there. They were rude and didn't even thank me for selling few of their items that one of the models purchased after modeling the clothing. Then they call me complaining that I ruined one of their items and got makeup all over it. To be frank.....the item they are referring to, we didn't use in our segment. From the beginning, she....LISA was rude and unprofessional.....and took her frustrations over a flooded basement on me and then proceeded to give me attitude the entire time I was there to pull the looks. I would've walked out but my friend assured me the owners were amazing people and that everything would work out. I was doing them a favor by promoting their store as a media influencer and on TV and this is what I get in return! They also lost a good potential customer! My boyfriend bought me a totally unique and funky necklace from this place that I loved, but I didn't have anything to wear it with. I went back to Una Mae's a month later to try to find some dress to go with it, and not only did the woman working there remember what necklace I was describing, but she remembered my boyfriend buying it! I feel like they have genuine customer service. They're not going to fawn all over you like you're a rock star, but they're super helpful when you ask for it. I found the perfect dress with her help and always get compliments on the ensemble. read more

We've spent $1,000 there in the last three years of living in Wicker Park (mostly for clothes for my husband). When I lost an $85 store credit receipt, they said it was like cash and wouldn't honor it or do anything about it -- or even attempt to look it up by credit card. Just an "oh well, sorry." (For the record, it was a shirt that didn't fit.). So nice selection, but don't expect to get good customer service if you return something. Considering there's better selection in the neighborhood, the customer service should be better than that. read more

I don't usually write many reviews, but felt that my most recent experience here should be shared. I go to Una Mae's pretty frequently, but on my most recent visit I was on the fence about purchasing a coat and decided to leave it, sleep on it, and come back if I really was sure. I decided to call that night and I spoke with the owner about the coat and she remembered me and excitedly told me she'd hold it behind the counter for me to pick up the following day, I even repeated myself to make sure it would be okay. I came in the next day only to find that they had sold it to someone online and that she didn't even bother to leave a note or anything that I would be coming in to pick it up, they didn't seem like they cared all that much as I explained that I spoke with Nancy and she assured me that it would be there, just shrugged shoulders and "well, she didn't and it sold online". Pretty crap business model if you ask me, If you tell someone you will hold it (especially someone who frequents the store) and assure that you can come in the following day to pick up the item, IT SHOULD BE THERE. read more

una mae is a great store especially for vintage clothing. but whats really great is that it carries bensimons (french shoe) that are soo hard to find here in the US! i know a couple of places in NYC but i was so pleased to find out that una mae carried them in a selection of colors!! what a great find!! read more
