Excellent surgeons, imo. Absolutely the worst post op care I've ever received. And, I've sadly had many surgeries to compare to. Do NOT receive surgery here without first developing a pain management protocol for post op with your primary or a pain management specialist. read more

I am apparently too old at 57 to have an active.life They are always using my age for my physical pain. Rarely have a Dr looked at me, always a resident there to determine if I need care or not. Because of my apparentl old age I get kicked on down the road like an empty can. Wondering if the next place I get kicked to cares enough to help me. Staff is friendly but inefficient. We have been here two or three times and every time - even early morning appointments- we have had to wait over 45 minutes in the lobby. I just don't understand how a non trauma facility can get so behind so early -so often. This is not a "can do" make it better for the patient facility. It's a shame because the doctors are very good- but the wait is ridiculous. read more

UNC Orthopaedics - Urgent Care Near Me - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

I recently broke my foot and, after finding out there was a 90 minute wait at Duke Urgent care, went to the UNC OrthoNow clinic. That initial experience was both good and bad. The front desk was great, the xray tech fabulous, the NP not good. Before I go on, I was in and out of there in 90 minutes so they totally beat Duke. Anyway, the NP gave me a cursory exam and then left to look at the xrays. When she came back she said "there are no broken bones, just pulled tendons" and I had to say "No, there are broken bones" She went back out and took the xray to a radiologist, came back and said, yes, there are 2 broken bones. "lots of bones in the foot, hard to see yada, yada" What the hell? I left there with a full boot and crutches. 2 weeks later and back for xrays and she confirmed that the bones were broken. That's it. The bones are broken. No here's what to expect or here's what to look out for or here's what to do to keep your strength up. Nothing. 2 weeks after that: the bones are healed and you are good to go with a shoe insert. No instructions, no here's what to look for, nothing. I couldn't move my toes, my foot was swollen and I'm good to go?!?! At that point I stopped going there and went to a PT. Love my PT but I should have gone to another doctor. Now, my foot is back in a boot and xrays show it's not fully healed or it healed incorrectly and may need surgery. My advice is, if you have an ortho emergency, they are great but DO NOT follow up with them. Move on to your own physician or NP. read more

Dr. Ganesh Kamath has impressed us tremendously. He operated on our sixteen-year-old son's shoulder a couple of weeks ago. During his first appointment with our son, he explained the pros and cons of the surgery Matt needed. He talked us through the MRI results, shared the various options and outcomes, and patiently answered MANY questions from us and our son. When we decided to go forward with surgery, he made a point of making sure we all felt comfortable with the decision and was very open about what to expect soon afterward and in the coming months. The best part is that our son loved talking with him. The day after his surgery, he told his friend and twin brother, "My doctor is really 'hype.' Dad, don't you think he was 'hype'? He seems like he knows so much." My husband responded, "Yes, and he's great because he is confident without being arrogant." This is the real conversation that took place. Anyway, we are grateful for Dr. Kamath's amazing "bedside manor" both before, during, and after Matt's surgery. read more

I went to the walk-in clinic the day after a snow storm when the clinic had been closed for two days. I expected to wait a long time. My wait was brief and once they called me back everything went very fast (X-ray, visit with doc, cast). In an hour, I was out the door with a cast on. read more

I have been going to UNC for ortho care for a year or so, Prompt Care is wonderful! Dr. Kamath is always ready for me as are the xray techs and any one I might need to see. Last summer I fractured my wrist. Being a massage therapist, I was really terrified and April Berndt NP was very calm and explained exactly what I had done and her reccomendations. We were both in total agreement on treatment. I healed well and went back to my clients. This year after a trip to Alaska, I had April again, for my foot. Once again she was caring, concerned and we discussed treatment. I a m very happy with the treatment and the respect I recieve from UNC and their staff. I highly reccommend them! read more

Just curious, but as a patient, what does it take to get through to a live human being on the telephone system for this practice? This is not a rhetorical question, since I'm now on my fourth phone call to the phone number listed on this webpage (wasting about half an hour of my time) in an attempt to resolve a billing issue for a brace for which I was billed in error. I wouldn't have visited this webpage, much less have bothered to write this review had it not been for the screwup on the billing issue, however, since I'm here I may as well share my experiences with my office visits to this practice. I'm now about three months out from the date of an injury to my left foot. (I broke the third metatarsal). My foot has yet to completely heal, which I find disappointing. I'd have thought it would have been back to normal after, maybe, eight weeks at most. If I'd known ahead of time that I would have been seen by a RN instead of an MD, I never would have bothered visiting this facility. After all, if I really wanted substandard care I could go to Bangladesh. And if I'd known I wouldn't have been seen by an MD I'd have certainly gone eight miles across the hill to Duke and have been seen by an MD there, and I'm guessing had I done so that I wouldn't be writing this today. By the way, after my fourth phone call I did get patched through to someone who told me that yes, UNC CH did actually screw up my billing for the brace and that I don't owe anything to them for it since I'd paid for the brace at the time of the visit. Still, getting billed for it and wasting my time correcting their error on top of everything else ticks me off. I have other doctors at UNC CH and they've done a good job. I'm disappointed in this clinic and would never go back and would recommend against others utilizing its services as well. read more

I recently injured my wrist badly enough to need to see a physician, but not badly enough for the Emergency Department, so I went to UNC Orthopaedics at Carolina Pointe II's Prompt Care service. The front desk staff was competent, and checked me in quickly. The radiology tech who took my x-ray was awesome (five stars for him!)--compassionate, concerned for my comfort, and personable. I was seen by a nurse practitioner, April Berndt, NP, who I found to be dismissive of my concerns and in a rush. She had a technician splint my wrist and told me to return in a week. When I went back to the front desk to make the follow-up appointment, I was initially given a slot that worked for me. On my way out the door, the front desk person stopped me and stated Ms. Berndt could not see me at that convenient time after all. Oh, and she's only available two days weekly. I said I'd be happy to see another provider, but the front desk insisted I return to the same NP. I scheduled an appointment that did not really work with my schedule, then later canceled it. I've decided to follow up with Triangle Orthopedics. I've heard nothing but good things about them from friends who've had injuries and gone there. read more

I am not sure why others have had bad experiences here but I was recently treated at UNC Orthopaedics at Carolina Pointe II's Walk in clinic and the experience was wonderful! Nurse Practitioner Jennifer Woody was very helpful and was legitimately concerned with my well being. She was very thorough and made me feel at-ease about my injury and recovery. She was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The check in process was very easy and everyone was friendly. I was brought back to xray quickly where the xray technician verified everything with me before xraying me. I appreciate this because xrays are expensive and it helps if someone cares that they are doing the right thing. I would highly recommend coming here for orthopedic related injuries as my experience was wonderful. I did not have to wait at all to be seen, I am sure that they are busier at times but the treatment and care that you get from the wonderful Nurse Practitioners at the walk in clinic is worth it!! read more

Couldn't have been more pleased with all facets of my treatment there. Walked in with severe pain from a rib injury and was quickly seen, x-rayed, and cared for. Heather Carroll, the nurse practitioner I saw, was fantastic,...warm, smart, knowledgeable, thorough, encouraging. This was not Urgent Care Orthopaedics, but at the main UNC medical Center. I was having a problem with my left big toe crossing over the toe next to it. My Primary care physician referred me to Orthopedics. The Dr there took an ex-ray and said I had a bunion, and needed surgery to correct the problem. I assumed, stupid me, that he knew what he was talking about. He cut the bone in the toe ,inserted a rod and reattached the bone. After wearing a boot for about 3 months, while the bone healed, all the wraps were removed. After the operation, I had reduced mobility in the toe, the section of the foot was (and remains) numb, the toe still crosses over the toe next to it, and when he re-attached the toe, he re-attached it at about a 15 degree angle so that the side of the toe is now the bottom. I then went to another doctor. He said I did not have a bunion, that what I had were tight tendons, pulling the toe over. The proper treatment would be to relax the tendons. I suggest extreme caution in accepting the recommendations of UNC Orthopedics. read more

I took my daughter here 9 months ago. Her follow up appointment with a physician was scheduled for over a month later. Their computers were down, but they had a copy of our insurance card. Unfortunately, that information never got put into their system and they filed insurance and tried to contact us at an address that was 12 years old. They sent me to collections about 3 months ago and it took about 16 hours of my time over the 3 months to get it straightened out. It will take months for my credit to recover and all for someone's incompetence or lack of attention to detail. read more

Was pretty disappointed in my visit here. I scheduled an appointment and took the day off to make sure I had time for my visit. When I showed up (not before) I was told I would have to get an xray of my knee which I was billed for as a hospital fee so it went towards my deductible rather than covered by my insurance. I was not at a hospital and was told my fee could be anywhere from around $67-$1000+ (pretty wide range if you ask me). I was then billed for ~$400 for the hospital fee plus an additional ~$40 for someone to read my xray. Last time I checked I don't go to the dentist and have them tell me they bill me separately to read the xray. My primary care doc doesn't charge me to interpret my labs for me either. When I tried to reach out for clarification of this bill, I was told many times someone would reach out to me. I tried this for 6 months, emailing once a month and calling once a month, because all the while I was being told to wait, they were starting to send me notices I was going to be sent to collections. I finally threatened legal action and someone reached out to me the same day, basically telling me they are sorry but it is what it is and that's how they bill. I never did get justification on how they bill or why my bill were what they were. I paid my bill due to the fact I didn't want to be sent to collections however their lack of communication or follow through has lost my business forever. I would think twice before going here unless you like to overpay and like being left in the dark when needing your questions answered. read more

Get ready to Mooo as you get off the elevator because you are about to be herded in to their system of care, which is completely designed for their convenience and to maximize the money they can bilk from you! First off, who designed an orthopedic clinic on the second floor and only allows you to take the elevator to get there? Believe it or not, the stairway is locked! The clerks are dripping with compliments and kindness, so much so that it is obvious that they are told they have to be kind, but no one seems to be telling the nurses and doctors this! I waited forever each time I went and then the nurses and doctors do not have the time of day to actually help you. Then you get your bills and see how you are bilked and have to spend hours on the phone trying to correct their billing errors! I finally got tired of this place and went over to Triangle Orthopedics in Chapel Hill. It was the exact opposite. Very little wait time, people were genuinely kind and caring, not to mention actually helping you. No bilking on your bills and no need to spend hours on the phone arguing with them for their billing mistakes! Dr. Dellaero was amazing and did so much more for me in my first visit than the bozo I had at UNC did in 4 visits. I was new to the area when I went there, but since then I have learned that locals know to stay away from UNC healthcare and know that Triangle Orthopedics is the place to go!
