Uncle Af's in Agoura is one of the go-to places that students and families have been going to in the area for years. It's located in the small to medium size outside shopping plaza in Downtown Agoura and right next to the elementary school and high-school. The same owner has been serving customers for years and is always a delight to talk to. My boyfriend and I came here the other day to grab lunch to-go and bring it to the beach to eat. We ordered and it didn't take too long to get our food, as I also peeked next door at the consignment store. They did pack it a little different than I thought they would, putting both sandwiches that we ordered into one aluminum tray with the fries on top, but that's alright. That being said, we ordered two sandwiches, some fries, and drinks (they have cold or room temperature). The chicken burrata with pesto is always my go-to and is so good! It has a classic taste that never gets old, and the flavors in the ingredients all mesh well together. My boyfriend got the Prosciutto Panini and he said he really enjoyed that one, too! *One note is that a good amount of years ago, the owner used to make his own teas and juices for customers; they were always so fun to try. If you're a local and you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for? I'd recommend going for lunch. Amazing! First time visitors today and will be back. We ordered the club (I opted for baguette) and the cold cut. Both were super good. After we ordered several people recommended the firecracker turkey sandwich. I ordered a side of the special sauce that goes on the one and added it to my sandwich. O M G it's a must!! I've tried Uncle AF twice now, and both experiences were pretty different so here's my honest take. The first time, my friend picked up food and brought it to me. We tried one of their top sellers, the Firecracker Chicken, plus a turkey sandwich (can't remember the exact name). The turkey sandwich was okay but a little dry, I wasn't sure if it had mayo/garlic or some kind of sauce because it felt like it needed a little more moisture. The Firecracker Chicken, though, was truly fire flavorful and really good. That first experience made me excited to come back and dine in. The second time, we went on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few people there, but we ended up waiting about five minutes before anyone came to the register since everyone seemed to be in the back. I believe this is a Mom/Pop/Family owned business but it was a little awkward just waiting around trying to get someone's attention. We ordered the Firecracker Chicken again, and my friend got another chicken sandwich I don't remember the name it was some chicken thigh sandwich. Oh we also ordered a side of onion rings $8.00 though for onion rings. Honestly, complete rip off and it was a small portion and they weren't even that good. The owner was very nice and even gave me a complimentary iced tea that he said is one of their popular drinks great gesture, although personally I wasn't a big fan of the tea. Food-wise, this time just didn't hit the same. The Firecracker Chicken tasted very different from the first time I had it, and unfortunately neither of us really loved our sandwiches. Oddly enough, I took my sandwich home and ate it a couple hours later, and it tasted way better than when it was fresh maybe the flavors settled in or maybe their panini-style sandwiches just work better slightly cooled. Overall, the service and friendliness were great, and I can see why people enjoy this place. For me, the consistency just wasn't there between visits. I'd say it's more of a 3.5-star experience, but rounding up to 4 because there's definitely potential and some really strong flavors when they're on point and service. But all in all it was good, wouldn't be my top choice when in the area. read more

I just found out about Uncle Af's. This sandwich spot is tucked away off Kanan in a retail strip center. I went with the chicken burrata sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. The sandwich consists of grilled chicken topped with avocado, pesto, and tomato on a toasted caibatta bread. The chicken was well seasoned, and the pesto had fresh basil. The bread was nicely crisp and toasty. The ambiance is quite casual. There are a couple places to sit inside and outside. The sandwiches are made fresh, so they take a little bit of time to come out. First off, what an amazing sandwich!! I popped in during lunch after having heard of this place many times and it did not disappoint. The service was friendly and the sandwich was prepared quickly (not many people at the time). The restaurant itself is small but there is plenty of seating and it has a unique look to it. I was pleased that it was also very clean. I ordered the Firecracker Chicken sandwich which is spicy, for those with a low tolerance, proceed with caution. It was made using a Ciabbata bun that was lightly toasted on the exterior but perfectly soft on the interior. The chicken itself was well seasoned and the veggies/avocado tasted fresh. The firecracker bacon and the firecracker aioli were definitely the star of the show. It provided the perfect level of spice (for me) and the bacon was crisp so it added a crunchy component to the inside of the sandwich. I would 1000% order this sandwich again. There is some limited outdoor seating facing South, and a small counter with stools inside, and several small tables. The place is well lit, and has counter service. I really liked the music they were playing, it was some classical and jazz. Overall a pretty nice vibe. I ordered the Chicken Firecracker sandwich and an iced tea. They have two kinds of iced tea, their house special, and black. I had the black tea, and it was really excellent, I will have to try the house special because the normal black tea was some of the best iced tea I have ever had, very fresh and flavorful but not bitter, just refreshing. The real star of my visit was the sandwich. Thin grilled pieces of chicken breast served on ciabatta bread with arugula, chili glazed bacon, avocado, and a spicy aioli... this was the best hot panini sandwich I have ever, EVER, had, bar none. In fact, this was the best hot sandwich I have ever had. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the combination of the bacon with a kick, the avocado, and the arugula with the aioli... it was absolutely incredible. I will usually eat half a sandwich at lunch and save half for later, but I devoured this whole thing. It was incredible. This place does appear to be a family run business, and there aren't a ton of people working there, so don't expect a fast-food experience... but the (short) wait is so worth it, the food is really incredible. Braving the 101 from WEHO to get a panini sounds daring and/or insane, but I heard the hype surrounding Uncle Af's. Uncle AF's serves predominantly Panini's but with a Persian twist, so my taste buds awaited with anticipation. They offer a variety of Panini's; some 'firecracker' hot, some with no heat factor. Ordered the Rams panini, because it sounded bases and Los Angeles AF. The Ram panini can be described as: Ciabatta ,mix of Garlic aioli& firecracker aioli, avocado , Caramelized onions, Chicken Thigh, Raw onions, arugula, green onions, Firecracker bacon, Monterey Jack. A few things discerned right off the back: Ingrediants were quite fresh, sandwich and chicken were super oily with a yellowish hue slick seeping out. The chicken was almost finely chopped in bits of watery-like strings similar to what you'd find in pulled-chicken/pork. This. Doesn't. Work. This particular style is routinely found to be served in a BBQ joint for sandwich options, but a panini? Never seen this before. This gave the sandwich a really gnarly texture; such that it completely ruined the taste and bogs down the review. I hope the owner/manager reads this because had the sandwich been served as a whole thigh or just chopped as even chunks, the panini would have been received well and regarded as nearly perfect. read more
