I have been going here for twenty plus years. The food is amazing and the staff is really nice!

P&L Burgers is an old school spot and a true Thousand Oaks icon. It had been at least fifteen years since I last ate here, so this was a return visit for lunch with my pop. I ordered the huge double cheeseburger, a half-pound burger with good beef flavor. Unfortunately, it was overcooked and they did not ask about doneness. Still satisfying, but it could have been noticeably better with a little less time on the grill. The onion rings were solid. Crispy, with a pleasant sweet onion flavor. Not off the charts amazing, but they check the boxes. My pop had the tuna melt, and it must have been good because he finished every last bite. The restaurant is clean but clearly shows its age, although the seating appears to have been reupholstered fairly recently. Staff were professional and efficient. Counter ordering, a table number placed at the seat, and the food came out in just the right amount of time. Total cost was just under $40 for two people. Not cheap, but in line with what you expect these days for a sit down lunch with burgers, sides, and drinks. There aren't many independent places like this anymore. I'm rounding up a star due to its legendary status and long term consistency. It had been many years but the experience was exactly the same. read more

Shoutout to fellow yelp elite Imo for the great local recommendation! I've always been a sucker for a classic-old school type burger shack and this spot is that in every positive sense of the word. A true Thousand Oaks staple that the locals have raved about for years. I'm truly sorry I've had this place bookmarked so long without stopping by, my bad guys... I stopped in for a late lunch and was hit with nostalgia and good vibes. Just a simple restaurant but they are serving up class feel good bites. For a late afternoon this spot was definitely busy which was nice to see. However, staff were quick and the food came out in no time. You order at the counter and if your dining in you're given a number and then you just sit and wait. The menu is super big serving up all of the classics from burgers, hotdogs, burritos, and all of the sides! Prices were reasonable, the two of us ate for under $30. Better than a chain fast food spot in my opinion. And you're supporting a local mom and pop business so win win. I ordered up a bacon cheeseburger hold the lettuce. Love a delicious old school burger where the griddle keeps the burgers super flavorful. Crispy bacon and a good amount of thousand island, I was in heaven. Burger for a no frills classic - 5/5. Anytime I see fried onion rings on a menu I'm ordering them. Tasty and made fresh to order. I prefer a more old school tempura batter and these weren't quite that if my flavor profile was right so a 4/5 but still good. I've been recommended to try their fried zucchini next time so I'm excited for that. They've also got the homemade ranch so I was happy. Staff were nice and service was efficient, felt welcome and had a great dining experience at a local hole in the wall that won't break the bank but will have you leaving full and happy. Still loving their food! I came here the other day with my boyfriend after not visiting for a while. I ordered my usual breakfast burrito, but forgot jalapeños. Their hot salsa is to die for, it goes perfectly with the breakfast burritos. They don't skimp on ingredients and our food came out so fast! read more

Finally got around to trying this greasy spoon spot. I tried their bacon avocado cheeseburger with onion rings. The burger had thousand island dressing, lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado, and a beef patty on a classic sesame seed bun. It was filling and tasted like a homemade burger, which to me is decent. It kind of reminded me of a burger you'd get at a fair. The onion rings flakey outer part falls off way too easily for my liking though, leaving you with a big chuck of onion. My kid had the hot dog, which took some bribing for him to eat, but he did eventually finish it which is a huge win for us since he is super picky. However he was not a fan of the fries, and neither was I. The wife agreed that it was all just okay, could use better sides, but would do fine if we are back in the area. I've heard great things about their breakfast burritos, so I'll be back to give those a shot. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating. read more

I called in two breakfast burritos with sausage. The girl was very friendly. They have a large menu with a lot of options. The burrito was a bit dry and needed some salt and pepper. Otherwise it was a good portion and the salad were flavorful. read more

To this day they are still my favorite pastrami sandwich, if you want consistently great food and a family atmosphere that feels like your childhood, this is the place. Unintentionally, charmingly retro. Don't let that fool you I have never had a bad meal here and they are done cooking it in no time. If you're looking for fancy, this is probably not your place but if you're mad that all of the fast food restaurants in town raising their prices, but not their quality come over here because these guys have consistently kept their prices reasonable and regularly make awesome food. I haven't eaten at P & L Burgers for at least 2 years and I always thought their food was great, until today. I ordered a BLT and paid $8.00 plus tax for it. I expected a great sandwich for that price but, what I got was reminiscent of a child's sandwich. 2 slices of toasted square white sandwich bread with a small amount of mayonnaise on both pieces, 4 pieces of iceberg lettuce, 2 razor thin slices of Roma tomatoes and 2 pieces of bacon. It was ridiculously underwhelming for the price. My friends each had a cheeseburger. At first, the burgers look large but the burger patty was no thicker than a credit card. We were very disappointed and won't be back. I wish restaurants would stop raising the price while subtracting the food and/or switching to inferior substitutes. read more

Stopped coming here a couple years ago and was reminded why today. Onion rings are worse than ever. Breading falls off, they are bland, and pretty sure cooked in expired oil. They do offer ranch or bbq sauce but don't tell you it's now 50 cents. That's weak. Who doesn't give you at least one dipping sauce? Burger is visibly smaller and no way it's 1/4 pound. And that 3.5% charge to use a card is equally lame. Just gonna nickel and dime me off your customer list. My expectations were never high for this place but the food is wretched, inside is dirty, and for what it costs I'd rather go to Carl's Jr which is equally awful so it's off my list for good. read more

We tried P&L Burgers on a whim and I'm so glad we did! We've only ordered to go, but so far have only had great experiences. Staff is friendly, service is quick and the food is DELICIOUS! Burgers a amazing, zucchini fries are better than regular fries and the onion rings are just ok. I will say we ordered chili fries and the chili is not great. Flavor/spiceless. You're better off with regular fries or the zucchini fries. read more

Best authentic diner burgers! I always get the bacon cheeseburger and their fries. Their soda fountain is really carbonated too! I actually enjoy this place so much. P&L Burgers was a pleasant surprise! We didn't go the burger route this time and instead tried the club sandwich, fried zucchini and chef salad--both were absolutely delicious. The portions were generous and super satisfying, leaving us happily full. The vibe is casual but with a calm, relaxing energy that makes you want to linger a little longer. Fish sandwich special was very generous and tasty with generous portion of fries. Chicken Quesadilla was okay .. Came without any sauce... Need to buy separately. This is a Thousand Oaks favorite. I can't tell you enough how awesome this place is . My honey had the ham and eggs over medium with hash browns he told me it's so simple yet so good so got the gyro it comes to the table piping hot! It's so incredibly delicious. I've always loved this place. Grew up eating the kids burger and then graduated to the double cheeseburger . But any of the menu items hits the spot if you're looking for a quick fix. I went in not very hungry -- turned out to be a good thing -- so I wanted something light. I ordered a Greek Salad for $12.99. What I received was a pile of lettuce with two thin slices of cucumber, a pale tomato slice cut in half, some feta crumbles, some dressing, and a piece of pita bread. See my photo. What I was expecting: more sliced cucumbers, ripe tomatoes, green bell pepper, red onion, olives, and generous feta cheese. I paid $12.99 and received $1 worth of food. My H ordered a pastrami sandwich for $11.99 and it was piled high with pastrami. Wtf. read more

The only thing that was truly unacceptable about this place was the french fries otherwise the food was mediocre. The salsa was delicious though. I will mention if you get the hot one. For me, the burger was sort of like an elevated Burger King. There's no ambience which wouldn't have bothered me if the food had been terrific, but alas, that wasn't what happened. Came here over a place across the parking lot, based off of reviews. This will be short and sweet: Ordered the double cheeseburger and asked for it medium and it came well done. Bun was dry and nary a hint of thousand island dressing like others have described it having. Burger: overdone and dry, nothing special. Onion rings were so cold I didn't eat them... like cold as in they pulled them out of the fridge. Outside falls off so much it's just like you're eating cold, sliced onions. Very disappointing indeed. I ordered a breakfast burrito to go (because of reviews and everyone ordering them in the restaurant) which didn't come together with my meal and had to ask for where it was. Then it was later brought without the salsa I ordered at the register, which I also then had to ask for again. Water was delicious! Glad this is now off the list. read more

Great food. The wife and I love doing a late morning breakfast here and their pastrami breakfast burrito is really wonderful. The fillings are evenly distributed throughout the entire burrito, pastrami, eggs, hash browns, pico de gallo, and some cheddar cheese, round things out. Definitely not a fancy eatery, but quality food at fair pricing, makes us fans of this place when we are in the vicinity. Oh and if you like iced tea, theirs is made fresh daily. In fact they went through three pitchers while we had breakfast. Free refills too. We ordered at the counter and then they bring your order to your table, and ask if you'd like any particular condiments. Nice service for a casual little eatery. read more
