1st time at Mythpoint. It was recommended by a co-worker that accompanied me. I had the Souvlaki and he had the Gyro Quesadilla (not the name but that's what it was like). My chicken was tender and tasty, salad fresh and tasty, rice and yogurt, excellent. He enjoyed his Gyrodilla - lol. He told me it was really good. The owners are welcoming and do all the work. We had Mythpoint Bistro cater our dinner for 16 people. We ordered the large buffet with chicken kabobs-two trays and falafel with 10 extra. The meal came with plenty of delicious rice, pita bread, hummus, tzadiki, baba ganoush, tahini and generous servings of Greek salad. The owners were very accomodating to my special dietary requests and items to put on the side. The owners are terrific. They had the food to us right on time. I love this place! They will cook your meat in butter (I avoid seed oils) AND they have high quality organic beef. They will customize your meal any way you want. Oh my goodness, you cannot find food like this in San Fransisco at all, I came down to Thousand Oaks for thanksgiving with my family who all live nearby this location and they all reccomended this to me and I do not regret coming here... The food is out of this world, don't even get me started on their baklava. Honestly is a pretty little and cozy place right next to the bagel shop, and the lady up front helped me pick what to eat and introduced me to her 2 sons who were helping, FYI I got the cheesesteak meal which happened to have a deal on Thursdays (today/day I got it) not only did I love it, I got the pistachio baklava after and honestly almost couldn't resist the urge to buy more once I was finished. I've dined at this restaurant about half a dozen times over the past four years, and unfortunately the quality has steadily gone downhill. The fries used to be excellent--true Greek-style fries made simply with potatoes, olive oil, salt, and oregano. Now they're completely different and honestly pretty bad, with what tastes like cornstarch or flour added, which ruins the texture and flavor. The Greek salad was also disappointing. It was about 90% lettuce, with only a few pieces of cucumber, tomato, olives, and onion, plus maybe a teaspoon of feta. For a Greek salad, the balance is really off. I used to enjoy coming here, but the decline in food quality makes it hard to justify returning. In response to the business owner: Hi Jimmy -- I did visit your restaurant in person, on a different day than my visit to the Greek fast-food spot you're referencing. Writing multiple reviews about similar items on different days isn't unusual, and no simultaneous dining occurred. We tried the pistachio and walnut baklava-- both were good!! The lady that helped us said she makes it herself, which is obvious by how tasty it is :)! We bring out of town guest here to try Jimmy's cheese steaks and their Gyros. Delicious. Their service is great and they work hard to make a great experience for their customers. An absolute gem of a spot. I'm a massive fan of cheesesteaks - and their garlic butter cheesesteak may be one of the best I've ever had. The garlic and butter are perfectly woven into the classic taste of a hearty cheesesteak. It's a combination I'm shocked to not see more of at other shops. I find myself constantly craving it. Even the fries are unique and so tasty! Even beyond the food - Mythpoint is one of those places that has the perfect combination of incredible service and an amazing meal. This place is so highly reviewed, idk if I'll be saying anything others haven't, but here's my take. The female owner is delightful. She was super nice and joked around with me and my wife as we were ordering..great sense of humor. She mentioned her responsibility in the store food-wise is all the bakery items (spanakopita, baklava, etc) while her husband's is the main menu items: cheesesteaks, gyros, etc. I had already liked her vibe from our personal interaction, and it was confirmed with the various signs around the joint -- see my pics for what I'm referring to. I had a mushroom cheesesteak with fries and started with a spanakopita. The spanakopita was perfect. The feta was salty, and the dough was super crispy but still very delicate. The cheesesteak was all the right amounts of cheesy and meaty. The mushrooms were not overdone, which can be common. They were still chewy and not slimy despite being smothered in hot melty cheese. I'm sure there will be some purists out there who will complain they don't serve whiz, but I am not of that breed, as I much prefer the 'real' thing. I imagine the owners feel the same, given this excerpt from their website: "Nothing is frozen, artificial or refined. We think food should be made of food as in the old days - We don't like thickeners, preservatives, coloring, flavorings, and other additives." The real star of the show, though, is their French fries...maybe the best I've had? The flavor on them is unreal, and I don't know if it comes from the oil/fat they're using to fry them or a seasoning; but given the lack of visible seasoning, I believe it to be the former. They're of the steak fry variety, but not super thick or wide. They're fluffy in the middle and super crispy on the outside without being crunchy. I nearly always dip my fries in ranch or mayo, but these fries stand on their own. Seriously, a wonderful fry. If you're into Mediterranean food or cheesesteaks and/or want to support a great mom n pop operation, I suggest driving straight here. And don't forget the fries. read more
