One of our (family's) usual favorite places to go for lunch, and dinner once in a while. I cannot get away from the Charlie Dip, just one of my favorite sandwiches. Today was disappointing....my sandwich was good as usual, however my wife had the BLT. She was shocked at awful it was, tiny, thumper-cooked bacon, no miracle whip or mayo even offered as a side. I finally had a bite and there was absolutely no flavor except for dry toast, and a greasy aftertaste from the bacon. Also, the wait staff was not that great, most of the time sat right at the chair/table and did not much for waiting or checking customers. Fun nostalgic place. You feel like you stepped into the restaurant of your childhood hood. Top part is a bar with additional seating (sit up there if you don't have kids or appreciate their antics). The lower level is brighter and attracts families and everyone at lunch. Food traditional American diner type food. Everything we have tried has been very good. Met my mom & sis for lunch, knowing full-well how busy it gets, so went to get a table PDQ. Waitress was spot-on! Very friendly. I knew exactly what I wanted - the Charlie Dip - cuz that sammie is so dang yummy! Imagine my disappointment when I took a bite & it tasted rancid - like the oil they grilled that disappointment on was old & needed thrown out. Even as bad as I wanted it to be good, I just couldn't. It was so gross. Brought it to the attention of the waitress & she asked how to make my experience better. Knew it was the oil, so any 'grilled' sandwich would still be awful. I took my niece and nephews out to dinner for a treat. They wanted to go to Uncle Charlies. I ordered the steak sandwich. It was a sirloin steak and was tough as that cut usually is. It was cooked to my liking but wasn't very flavorful. The meal was just average. Nothing stood out. One of my nephews did order the fried pickles which I grabbed a couple as I happen to like them. This place is extremely underrated on Yelp. It's 99% locals, as it's off the beaten bar path. They have a large menu of food including a killer crab cheese dip, a great Reuben, and yummy burgers. During happy hour they have some sort of free treat. One night we had chili cheese nachos, another we had taquitos and salsa. We had a waitress named Brandi who was phenomenal- so nice and friendly and attentive! Drinks are really cheap and stiff! Good selection of alcohol. Tons of seating. TV's everywhere and they are happy to put on whatever game you're interested in watching. I dont see the appeal of this place. None of the food i had was good the place seemed run down and mediocre service. The burgers tasted low grade with little flavor and terrible ingredients. The chili on my burger tasted if it came from a can and was the worst part of the meal. The fried pickles were mediocre at best. The batter they use could be better. I am usually hesitant to order seafood in a land locked state but this was very good. again the service was excellent and the food was good. atmosphere was nice as it was not very busy or noisy at the time we were there. next time we go I want to sit in the section with all the old pictures and signs explaining the history of the place as it was something else or some other restaurant first that opened many years ago. I would like to learn the family history of the place as it seems to have been in Cheyenne for almost 100 years. my thoughts are places do not stay in business that long unless they are good. read more

I came in here on Saturday afternoon with my Aunt and my cousin. We sat for 5 minutes before anyone even said anything to us. One server came over and told us that our server would be "right with us." My cousin decided to just go up to the bar after our server walked by us several times without making eye contact. She couldn't even get acknowledged up there, so we walked out. There wasn't a crowd there at all. The server who had said "she'll be right with you" could have easily helped us, but she was happy to sit at the end of the bar talking to the men watching the football game about her kids, Avery and Elias. Its my understanding that this is a local staple and the regulars are most likely keeping it a float, but I will not be back. Absolutely nothing that we ordered was made fresh. Instant potatoes, instant gravy, frozen burgers, frozen fries, frozen chicken fried steak. Everything was so flavorless and cheap. The outside of the building looked promising, but when we walked inside the atmosphere was extremely outdated, smelled of smoke, and was dirty. The booths were so old that the seat cushions were no longer "cushioned" but completely flat. I was uncomfortable the entire time we were trying to eat. The only reason this isn't getting one star is because our service was excellent - fast and friendly- and the cheese and potato bites, while frozen, weren't too bad. Short: No frills Restaurant bar, no pool tables, no dart boards at least not that I saw. Food is pretty good. Friendly staff and atmosphere. Crowd seems to be mostly grown folks 30+. Long: Met a friend here just before 5pm. for farewell drinks. I was acknowledged right away by the server and was told he'd be right with me. Stood there for 5-7 minutes as he walked by several times to refill ice in the soda area and serve a drink. My guest arrived and he asked if he could help us. I told him party of two. He told me it's open seating sit anywhere you like. You're probably thinking what I am, why didn't he say this in the first place right! We picked a table another 7-10 minutes later he asks what we would like to drink. Now, he did seem a bit busy and the only one serving at the time. And I will note that he was friendly and knowledgeable once he did serve us. But reading previous post, there does seem trend with disappointing service. However, after that rough start service was actually pretty good. There must have been a shift change since the male server was gone and replaced by two female servers. I stayed for dinner and asked the regulars and bartender for recommendations. With the recommendations I ordered the chicken fried steak and an order of wings. The chicken fried steak and tators where of good quality diner food. The wings were plump and tasty on par with B dub dubs. However, cooked well enough where they were still juicy and I did not have to worry about biting into chicken that is still clucking. I worry about that with the aforementioned place. Atmosphere: The regulars were friendly and chatty, I felt pretty comfortable. Seems like a good kick back place to go after work alone or with friends. Venue is cramped, as it's more midgrade tavern then quality grill. It's obvious establishment draws the same crowd each night, which is fine for those that have allergy to new things. When we visited this week for lunch, the restaurant was very busy. Despite the hustle & bustle taking place, we were able to get seated quickly. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our party dined on the silver dollar sandwich, soup of the day, the club sandwich, and the club salad. All of the meals were tasty and freshly prepared. The portions were hearty. Environment- I have sat in the bar and in the formal dining area and have had a good time, no complaints on either. Staff- Everyone is helpful, friendly, and easy going. Had their spicy chicken salad and asked for sautéed mushrooms instead of just mushrooms. The salad came out and the mushrooms were sautéed and they were good. I was expecting a chicken breast but what I got was not that at all. It looked and tasted like breakfast potatoes that are too old to sell! The lettuce was a simple piece or two of leafy lettuce and iceberg cut up. There was barely enough cheddar cheese from a package on the salad and 6 tiny pieces of onion. Everything about this spicy chicken salad was package and not freshly made. The reason for the one star is service. My waitress was always smiling very friendly and took very good care of me. When I walked in and went to the bar I was not greeted at all by an older woman with a frown on her face behind the bar. Her whole demeanor and attitude was "what are you doing here." Food was disgusting-ordered the hot roast beef sandwich which was essentially warmed up roast beef lunch meat, metallic tasting canned gravy and institutional mashed potatoes. The sandwiches here are great! I had a Charlie dip! It was soo good and the flavor was on point! The only down fall is the crappy wait staff. Our server I think her name is Deborah if it's correct on our tab, was so slow. She spent more time on her phone(texting or whatever) and talking to people at the bar top rather than tending her tables. I wanted ranch for my side that I got with the sandwich but she never came back to check on us so I got so irritated next time I saw her I just asked for a box. Her facial expressions show she does not need to be serving tables. Last time we came we came for dinner and had a younger girl who was just as slow. If you want a good sandwich and don't mind slow service then that's fine but if you have things to do reconsider and go somewhere else. The service was absalutly ridiculous! It took 30 mins to get a waitress to come and order our drinks. That took 10 mins before we got menus. Only to find out that the o line menu had been incredibly misleading and they did not have what we came for. We then asked for the check just for the drinks and it has been 15 mins and she still iant back to get the money. This has been a very disheartening experience and we will not be comming back. In addition we will be telling our friends not to go. I do not recommend this resteraunt as the servos was awful and the waitress rude. I asked for no ice in my Drink and it is mostly ice.
