This is one of my favorite places to come to in One Loudoun. The food always taste great and the Margs are always on point. You get a lot of food for what you pay for. If you get tacos: they don't use their "made from scratch" tortillas. I got a cheap mission tortilla instead. I told them and they swapped it out easily. I was hoping for a lot better based on what I had heard before my visit. What I got was a mixed bag. I had an incredibly simple order: two tacos with no lettuce and no pico. Yeah, I get it...I asked for something to be modified, and restaurants hate that. But the place wasn't busy at all and I thought doing less work would be a reasonable ask for the kitchen. Apparently not. The server (who had admitted that it was his first day at the restaurant) wasn't anlround when the runner dropped the food and didn't come back to our table for another 20-25 minutes, so I just pulled off what I could and dealt with it. Just an average dining experience at Uncle Julio's. I had heard some good things about the place and their food, and while I can always let a thing or two slide, there was just too many things that left us disappointed and soured us in our experience. We were greeted upon entry and the hostess was friendly. The place was rather busy and we were told it would be about 5-10 minutes for a table. In less than 10 minutes we were brought to a table that was still a bit dirty. There was some kind of dry food spilled on the floor but before we had a chance to comment on it, someone came to sweep it up. The table itself appeared clean, but the menus were dirty. They clearly had some crumbs or something on them. The waitress was friendly and seemed very nice, but maybe she was new, because we felt several things were missed, which the manager later confirmed should have been asked. Shortly after being seated they bring you chips and salsas. They tasted fresh, but the salsas were very bland. We ordered a strawberry margarita but wasn't ask how we wanted it. Salt, sugar, on the rocks, frozen, etc. It arrived on the rocks and was mostly ice, so it was gone in about 2 1/2 sips. We ordered a large guacamole for an app. We we were asked if we wanted a large or small and we were unsure. The waitress explained the amount difference by cup size so we went with a large. We were a bit disappointed that it was just brought out on a plate. We were under the impression they made it fresh in front of you and were looking forward to that experience. We saw them doing it at other tables, so we were not sure if it is selectively done. We were later told by the manager that it's an option when ordering. Small, large, or table side. We were never offered this option. After we got our meals, it also occurred to me that since we were on the fence about either a large or small guac, it would have helped if the waitress pointed out that one of our dishes actually came with guac. We would have gone with the small portioned app. Instead we got a large and wasted some food. Our meals were great tasting over all. We ordered carne asada and a salmon dish. A few minor issue with the meals. Not being given a steak knife to cut the meat and bringing the wrong tortillas, which resulted in having to wait for a replacement. A manager came to the table and asked how things were, and if everything was ok, so we took that opportunity to ask a few questions and explain what concerns we had. He confirmed we should have been asked options when ordering the margarita, he explained the table side guac option and that we should have been asked that too. He was apologetic about the drink, the guac, the mix up on the tortillas and was nice enough to offer to comp the drink for us. Overall it was an average dining experience. The restaurant is in a great location (One Loudon), so there is plenty of parking nearby and shops, book store, and movie theater around it. It also is well decorated with a sort of modern rustic look to it. The staff were all very friendly as well. But in the end, for a dinner that would have totaled about $100 for two people (one app, two meals, one drink and one soft drink), and is just average overall, will not be good enough for me to visit Uncle Julio's again. There are enough Mexican restaurants in the area, including more authentic ones, that have proven to me they can deliver a better experience, at a lower price point. read more

There are some really positive things about this place. The table side guac is a must! They'll split it beteeen parties on the bill which is nice. The chocolate piniata is a fun way to end the night. Filled with tiny bites of churro, a few strawberries and a bunch of pineapple chunks. Fresh whipped cream and chocolate sauce are around the board. We had this years ago in Texas and it had fruit and churros around the board as well, so this time I felt like there wasn't near enough churro or fruit for the $35. For dinner we had the Guadalajara fajitas. The shrimp were large and very nicely done. The steak and chicken were decent. The homemade fajitas are great tasting but tiny for only getting 3. We liked that they have an outside patio with heaters. The salsa is smoky. Delicious! The chips were light and crunchy. I'd skip the kids meal. Fries were basic, burrito tiny. Not worth it. Please be aware of the following - if you leave anything of value on or under the table you may not get it back. A gift bag full of gifts was left underneath the table and once realized we returned within 5 minutes of departing Uncle Julio's. Management entertained the idea that no one saw the gift bag and claimed to have checked the garbage. Let's be for real - this gift bag had weight to it and there's no way one would believe this was garbage. So the "checking the garbage" was a complete excuse for their staff stealing. The food was good and our waitress was great so in turn she was tipped well (22%). So here is my recommendation, if you like Tex Mex - Uncle Julio's is not a bad choice. But watch your belongings - they will steal it and claim they know nothing about it. This experience ruined what was supposed to be a joyous occasion and we will never return to any Uncle Julio's. read more

What is happening at this restaurant? I'm starting to wonder if they are not in trouble because the signs are there: Portion sizes have sunk dramatically, items disappearing from the menu, and some items are being replaced by (far) lesser tasting items. I am a far too frequent visitor to UJ's because my wife loves it, but we are seriously starting to consider other choices for Mexican food because the other restaurants in the area are catching up or passing UJ's. I thought there were some positive signs- UJ's recently updated the interior of the restaurant with some lighter colors, making it easier to see your way around. Then the menu got updated and they replaced their very tasty Mexican rice with some stuff that tastes like it came from a Rice-A-Roni box and it was AWFUL. I used to eat the crispy tacos and I could never finish three of them because they were big, so I'd get about 2.5 eaten, but I left full and happy. Now? Three tacos the size of regular Taco Bell tacos and I leave hungry. What the heck? Now they charge for rice and beans- $1.00, but come on, man! The fajitas come on thick butch block boards that just don't make any sense- they are hard to eat off of and the portions are tiny compared to what they were before. No lettuce w/ the fajitas, just guac, cheese, and sour cream. You get about 3 tortillas with them and by the time you can flag your server down, your food is cold. The service is still better than most restaurants, but it has slipped badly. Last night we were seated for 15 minutes before our drink order was taken, then another 15 minutes before we could order. Usually the food comes out fast, but we waited a long time for that, too. I know it's hard to find servers these days so I will say they are doing their best, but they set a high standard for themselves at UJ's and right now, they are far below expectations. I do want to end on a positive note though- the shrimp and crab enchiladas (new item) are excellent, I just wish they were bigger. read more

Walked in after a bad experience just trying to get a bite to eat a block away, and this place was loud! Maybe it's because it was a Friday night, but the music seemed to be more for a night club instead of a restaurant, and it was extremely hard to talk with my family and the waitress. The chips were very oily and broken up. I think they changed the salsa too. It was orange instead of the dark drown it was previously. I ordered tacos with shredded chicken. The chicken was cold. Also had to ask for silverware and napkins. This place was really tasty and fresh when it opened several years ago. I'm guessing since the pandemic it's just never regained what made it really good. Food is always on point, service is another story. I love this place, it's also close to home, but service is not so hot. Made a reservation for 4 at 7pm. When I got there with my party the hostess just sat an 8top and then tried to sit us in the same section with the same server. Anyone in the industry knows that is just setting the server up for mediocre service (especially since the rest of the section was sat). I asked to move us before we even sat. So we got sat in a better spot. Ok. After being sat we waited to have our drink order taken around 10min, but then waited another 15 for our drinks to come. Still no food order. As drinks were being brought the server finally came back to take our orders. The rest of the dinner went pretty smooth until we tried to order a round of shots. We requested 2 fireball shots & 2 jaegermeister. To our surprise the server told us they didn't have either???????? What bar in One Loudoun doesn't have that? I can understand it not being programmed into the system, but not behind the bar? The server didn't seem to want to even check with the bar or suggest anything else (including dessert) so we just asked for the check. So many service boxes unchecked left us with a mediocre experience to say the least. Bummer as I am always expecting more out of Uncle Julio's. read more

Last two carryout orders I made with Uncle Julio's were messed up. First one we ordered chicken fajitas for two. Curbside pickup. Had to go inside to get our order. Got it home. No wraps. Bought some at the local grocery store. Had dinner. Next time we ordered chicken fajitas for two. This time went for carryout. Went in and picked it up. Ready to go when we got there. Got home. No beans or rice. You gotta be kidding me. Last order was Order # 21311597384941573 I rcvd a message from them on this order asking for feedback. I replied and never heard anything back. Love their food but the people packing their carryout. Not so much. === UPDATE In my most recent order (with no rice or beans) I responded to below message to from Heather. Heard back that diners in the restaurant were not eating the beans and rice and they were thrown out. So to eliminate this waste Uncle Julio lowered the price on this meal and made beans and rice an option for only $1 more. I didn't catch this when ordering the fajita meal on-line. The food is okay. But their server is ruined in their business. It wasn't a rush hour but the server wasn't attentive and friendly. We have to keep asking him for refill on drinks, he barely checked on us but only focus on his other table. Kinda sucks when he didn't even bother to bring down the empty plates and help make some spaces for dessert.! He just put the churros on conner and left .! We made a reservation for 12 for Cinco De Mayo yesterday. We were also celebrating the vow renewal of a couple in our party. We arrive at our reservation time, we knew it would be busy and that we would have to wait a little bit. 30 minutes go by, and we discover they gave our table to a different party. They sat us after about 45 minutes total. Our server didn't come up to our table for about 10 minutes. She took our drink order, and didn't come back with our drinks for 20 minutes, meanwhile, we are watching her give other tables around us their drinks. We don't receive water or anything for about 45 minutes into being sat. They don't clear any plates, or glasses or our table is incredibly crowded. We had to ask about 5 times to get the water refilled every time. We put in our food order and begin the wait, it's about 8:30 at this point. We look at the clock and it's 9. We've been waiting for our food for food for 30 minutes, while once again we see other tables around us of equal size being served their food and drinks and leaving in timely manners. We flag one of the managers, and he was super nice. Very apologetic and kind. Offered a free dessert, which we never got. Our food eventually came and was fine. We received our bill with 18% gratuity already added. We paid and left at 9:30. TLDR; slow service, not helpful, everything is so unorganized..not a super solid experience all around for such a well known chain. read more

I enjoyed this place. Had a blood orange margarita which was quite nice. Vacillated between the Carnitas and the fish tacos, that was steered toward the Carnitas by the server. It was a good call-they were quite tasty and very filling. They came with beans and rice, as well as a little side dish of lettuce salsa and guacamole. Service was good. My only comment would be it's a bit pricey. For two lunches and two blood orange margaritas it was $75. read more

Visited this location on New Year's after attending Light Up Fest. For the positives, the decor was beautiful and I liked the set up of the restaurant. I also appreciate the hostess for offering the bar option since there was a wait for tables. For 2 people, the bar was perfect. It was not too loud and my friend and I maintained conversation. For the negatives, the ladies restroom was not what was expected. It is very small and cramped and several things were out of order including one toilet (over flushing), one sink (ice cold water), and one paper towel dispenser (broken). The amount of maneuvering we all had to do was interesting and certainly generated conversation among all the women in there. Another challenge was the food. While I was okay with my dish, my friend was not feeling the rice and we both thought the salsa was not it. How can those two things go wrong? As a positive. I do want to note that I appreciated having lettuce wraps for my Shrimp al Pastor. Service was simply okay. It was cordial though inattentive all at the same time. Fortunately as a small party, we were pretty self-sufficient but still there was a time or too where we did actually have requests, which eventually got addressed. We came to uncle Julio's on a Saturday night and we ordered the chicken and steak fajitas. We usually get fajitas from Silverado so that will be the basis of comparison for this review. When we got seated, I kid you not - I saw 4 other people ordering the fajitas so that made me excited. And TLDR; the food was pretty good. They gave us an enormous amount of portion and the tortillas were very fluffy, but we missed the smoked jalapeño and varied bell peppers from Silverado that usually comes along with the onions. (Uncle Julio's had just onions and a couple of red bell peppers, but they weren't as caramelized/sweet as Silverado's). Also they didn't have any tomatoes or lettuce either. The service was okay. Not bad, not good. We eventually got what we asked for like hot sauce and whatnot but they didn't keep an eye out to fill up on my water or anything. Ambience felt a tad bit too dark for my taste, but I generally don't prefer bar-type ambiences which is the vibe I got from this place. Overall I'd recommend if you are craving fajitas! read more

We were made aware that they are no longer serving fresh, homemade flour tortillas at this location. Very disappointing as this definitely set Uncle Julio's apart from other Mexican restaurants and was my favorite part. While prices have gone up, the food portions seem to have gotten smaller. Although the steak fajitas are a classic, the price for the portion of meat you receive seems a little uneven. Drinks and service were great. First time here, quite unimpressed. We asked to be seated outside but the hostess said there was no outside seating available. I mentioned to her that we don't mind waiting for an outside table. It was a weekday after all. Her response stunned me. She said that even if we waited she could not assign us an outside table because that's not how their "system works." There were two hostesses and apparently this unique system can't let someone get a table outside. (They have a large outdoor dining area btw) Our server was helpful. The music was so obnoxiously loud that we couldn't hear him at all (hence why we wanted to sit outside). One of our orders was messed up which I blame on the clownishly loud music inside. The food was actually good but it took eons to arrive. In the end, between four people we spent more than $100 on food alone, and for that price, the whole experience was rather underwhelming, especially compared to nearby options. My lunch baes bought me here for a birthday lunch. Picture it, a nice warm spring workday where the weather was effect to take in some vitamin D while sitting outside. We were able to get seated right away for a party of 5 which was great considering they were busy. After being seated we were greeted by our waiter and e immediately grabbed our drink orders. We ordered table side guacamole as the app and it was brought to our attention that since we were seated outside, we could still get the the guac however it would not be made outside due to the cart limitations and it would not make the trip outside successfully but it would still be made in the table side fashion. So is it really still table side if we do not get to see it made at the side of the table???? But I digress. Our entrees all came form the lunch menu which still provided a generous portion. So do not be discouraged, you see a lunch menu and think of a little sister to the big sister dinner meal but the portion is still a winner. As we waited for our meals, gauc arrives with salsa and chips. The gauc was amazing!!! We asked for everything in it and slightly spicy. We learned that the level of spiciness is determined at the hands of the maker. We had pockets of bland and pockets of extra spicy guac. It was not well balanced on the flavor but we were able to look past that after a few bites. Entrees arrive and everyone got fajitas with their preferred choice of meat. You cannot go wrong with fajitas so there are not complaints there. I am not a tortilla person so I just ate the grilled chicken, onions and peppers straight off the plate. I also added on the guac and sour cream from the fixings plate and ate it as it. I m not a fan of the rice, it was dry and flavorless. I passed on the beans, you need no explanation as to why. No dessert as no one had any room for it. The longest part of the meal was waiting for the check. We asked for individual checks and that seem to take a minute to process. If this process was a little less painful and not as time consuming I could have came up off another star. This should be the easiest part of the whole visit. read more

The food at Uncle Julio's is delicious but the customer service is bad. I work for a medical practice and we placed large orders at least twice a month. The last order was 45 minutes late and there were no tortillas. I called Uncle Julio's to have someone deliver the missing item and I was told by Victor the manager that he will see what he can do to deliver the tortillas and will call me back, that was yesterday. I have not heard from him. I guess he does not care for my business and the $ 250 dollar order we place every two weeks. Perhaps another Mexican restaurant will care read more
