Great outdoor seating, queso, drinks, and the famous giant chocolate piñata dessert! You need a group for that treat!

We used to love this place. Our favorite were the "nachos," which were untraditional single chips topped with large chunks of chicken or beef. They discontinued those. While that's not horrible in itself, it was the first chink in the armor. Then the service started getting worse. Finally, on Friday, 8/21/26, we sat on the porch, and our server acted like we were interrupting her. We had to ask for silverware and napkins three times. She brought our check before we were finished. We asked for another round, which took 15 minutes. My "tequila on the rocks" was a watered-down, sweaty glass that had obviously been sitting out for a while. I'm genuinely sad to see this place fall out of favor. We used to really enjoy coming here, but unfortunately, it just isn't the same anymore. read more

We had Jessica as our server. Table side guac was great, the drinks were great. Jessica was nice, however we could tell she was rushing to get us out from when we were seated. This was verified as when we asked for the check, and made comments to give to the manager about how terrible the food was, she arrived with her apron in hand to deliver our full price check. Keep in mind we left our plates almost entirely full, I got three tacos and left 2 on the plate. Including letting our waitress know why. Don't get the new queso it's terrible, it's grainy and also comes with burnt onions to add a "smoky" flavor. My wife got the steak fajitas- they were also pretty bad. Little to no flavor on the meat at all which was surprising. Just tasted like bland beef. No marinade at all. My shrimp tacos, the shrimp were burnt to a crisp, to cover this up the kitchen covered them with salsa and a Crema sauce. They were equivalent to charcoal. When we sat down my napkin was also covered in stains and old food, I had to ask for a new set. To make this all worse, we were there around 4:00pm. The restaurant was mostly empty other than the bar. Having a manager come talk with us would have made this better. Especially as I just wanted someone to acknowledge this wasn't appropriate or normal service. Instead it kind of felt like this was the usual. We were celebrating tonight, for locals in the area. Stay to del friscos across the street. They have a much higher attention to detail and their guests. I've tried but Uncle Julio's offering has gone down more and more over the years last 20 years and add the poor service that has been consistent at trh Brentwood location I can not recommend. We had came in between shifts which I know is hard but the bartender was awful. She does not tend to her patrons, not giving us small plates or silverware and napkins. Those who were were around her were more helpful than her. And she was rude to her peers as well. Walked in to a burnt smell. Skirt steak fajitas had a very strange cheap texture that tasted like dog food smell. The cilantro rice was disgusting. The cheese dip was like velveeta. My had enchiladas which were also good but not yet had hard chunks initially like they scraped it from the bottom of a skillet, however, after we told the server they did bring some fresh soft rice. The old fashioned was a little too sweet and they only had the bright red cherries. If I could leave zero stars I would. To all those that I have recommended this restaurant to before, I apologize. This used to be our favorite restaurant to go to because it took us back to our Texas days. Even with a reservation you still wait to be seated. Our waiter was incredibly undertrained. He never made eye contact so no one could ever get his attention. It took us 30 minutes after seating for him to take our drink order. It took another 30 minutes to get the drinks which were melted at that point. The food was missing items from the kitchen. The manager cared ZERO bit when we talked to him (probably because we interrupted his bussing tables) and he didn't even apologize??? The bathroom literally has tape holding things together and the tables are all beat up. We've been coming here 8 years and this experience will make us never come back. We love your food, but to have this this happen and still pay over $100 for our dinner is UNACCEPTABLE. read more

Upon arrival, the broody (Timothee Chalamet wanna-be) host ignored us repeatedly before finally leading us to a table, sulking all the way. Once seated, we waited again to be greeted by our waitress. Thankfully, she was cheerful & attentive, but the food & drink service was still much too slow. The food itself left much to be desired. I've had more unctuous meals at Taco Bell and for a fraction of the cost. Like seriously PLEASE give me a cheesy bean & rice burrito instead of this. The salsa was overly spiced, but, in fairness, the frozen margaritas were tasty & helped wash the strange flavor down. I've been to this restaurant many times over the years and unfortunately I've went from 5 stars down to 2 stars. We went for lunch today and it wasn't pleasant. The past 3 visits we have noticed something has changed. It isn't like it was a year ago. It's way overpriced and our server today was more worried about her phone than making sure we had what we needed. We had to ask another server for a refill of lemonade. I had 3 Chicken tacos with hardly any chicken for $19.00 and you have to ask for the " Complementary " beans. My wife had the steak fajitas for $28.00. My granddaughter had the kids 1 steak taco with a side and with an extra $4.00 charge for a lemonade, adding up to almost $15.00. We also had the mushroom quesadilla for an appetizer, which for me was the best part of our meal. Total bill was $82.00. No thanks Julio. read more

Ok so, to say that my wife likes Uncle Julio's is an understatement. She LOVES their fajitas and always looks forward to our next visit, going all the way back to our time in Arlington VA where we discovered our love for the Uncle Julio's experience. Sad to say, this visit was disappointing in comparison. The food was decent, the service was quick, but we sat at the bar, which was dirty and cluttered and gross. I kid you not there was a bus tub of dirty dishes on the bar the entire time we were there. The bar back area was littered with empty bottles and other garbage. The dude bro bartender repeatedly touched the trash can and then made drinks without washing his hands and - true story - when dude bro accidentally knocked the freestanding drink specials menu into the trash can, he pulled it out and returned it to the bar top. Disgusting! We had two margaritas each. The drinks were ok but inconsistent. With a bit more effort and care this bar could be so nice. read more

We visited Uncle Julio's in Brentwood last night for dinner around 7:30 PM. It wasn't a busy night, likely due to the holiday just the day before, and the restaurant closes at 9 PM. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly and promptly seated. The service was excellent; our waitress was attentive, quickly brought us waters, and patiently answered all our questions about the menu. We started with appetizers: queso with ground beef and birria tacos. The queso was a bit greasy but flavorful. The birria tacos, served in small squares, were absolutely delicious, however a bit pricey for appetizers. For our entrées, I had the crispy tacos, and my partner ordered the quesadilla with steak. The steak came with a $4 upcharge, which brought the quesadilla to $19--a bit pricey, especially since there was not a lot steak added. Both dishes were fresh, tasty, and came in regular size portions. A helpful note: beans are complimentary if you request them, but you do need to ask. It's stated on the menu, so be sure to look out for it. We also tried two cocktails: Julio's Gold Margarita and Tres Amigos Margarita. Both drinks were delicious, well-balanced, and complemented our meals. The restaurant has an upscale Mexican vibe with soft background music, which allowed for easy conversation. It's spacious, with indoor seating, a bar area, and outdoor seating equipped with heaters for cooler nights. The outdoor area looked inviting, especially with its pretty lights, though it was too cold to sit outside. Parking is a bit spread out as the restaurant is part of a shopping strip. There's no parking directly at front, but there are options for street parking, a nearby lot in the shopping center, and a parking garage are back of shopping center which is a short walk to the restaurant. The prices are slightly higher than a typical Mexican restaurant, but the quality of food, and overall experience was good. They also offer a happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-6:00PM. The menu looked enticing, and we would come back to try happy hours as prices are more reasonable priced. Uncle Julio's delivered a great dining experience with attentive service, delicious food, and a welcoming ambiance. A bit pricey for portion size, however I would recommend it if you're looking for upscale Mexican meal. read more

Update: Had a cardiologist appointment in the area and decided to give UJ's, as Vince Gill would say, 'one more last chance'. So glad we did! When we walked in at noon on a Wednesday, the restaurant was active and buzzing like the old days! A quick look around revealed the ripped booth seats had been replaced and the restaurant looked clean! My wife and I were hopeful. We were quickly seated and immediately noticed the previously unmanned vegetable cutting/tortilla making station was once again occupied and active. I told my wife I thought this was going to be awesome again. It was! Chips were fresh and hot, salsa was perfect, enchiladas were hot and melty, rice and beans were fresh, and the service was just right. Also, several great new options have been added to the lunch menu. My wife loved her combo plate which included a really good tamale. So thankful! UJ's has been a treasured tradition in our family for years and we look forward to our next visit from East Tennessee, which might be very soon due to TSSAA HS football playoffs! read more

Once, this place used to be good. It's been spotty over the last couple of years but last week, it was awful. I ordered a taco salad with chicken and I got what I can only guess was canned chicken -- not grilled. It looked like canned tuna and had no taste. My husband and stepson ordered beef fajitas and the beef was so fat and gristly they couldn't cut it, much less want to eat it. The chips were mostly crumbs. When we asked if we could get chips that were, you know, the waiter shrugged and said: "I wish." $140 for bad food? No thanks. On top of that, whoever wiped down the booth left the seat with standing water on it when we were seated. There was nothing good about this experience. read more

Fantastic energy and fabulous service! Their happy hour is so reasonable with many favorites at a lower price point. Love the atmosphere and lively vibe!! The place is large with indoor and outdoor seating, great decor and very friendly staff. The bar area is a lot of fun with TV's and great conversations going on all around. The food is super enjoyable! The endless chips and salsa are just the beginning. Their chips are hot, fresh, light and crispy! Their home made salsa has a mild and spicy version. I really liked both of them. I have tried a few entrees and they have all been good. Recommend the shrimp dishes and the enchiladas were a winner as well. Their portions are quite big and the whole experience becomes a feast. The drinks, a must try. Very much liked the swirl frozen margaritas and the skinny margaritas were so flavorful and refreshing. We have eaten at Uncle Julio's several times but today will likely be the last. We went in around 5:30 pm today. There were AT LEAST a dozen open tables in the dining area that we could see from the hostess stand PLUS three high top tables in the bar area. The blonde hostess asked if we had reservations, which we did not. She then said it would be a 3 HOUR wait and refused to take our name. We stood in the hostess area until 3 spots opened at the bar. We ate dinner at the bar. We watched the entire time and nobody was EVER seated at any of the empty high top tables in the bar area and there were still several open tables in the main dining area. The drinks weren't nearly as good as they used to be. The chicken was rubbery and the steak chewy. The sides and toppings that accompanied our fajitas were a joke and we had to ask for additional. He ensured me, he would bring me a fresh cocktail. Never happened! Check came, paid and then the server lost my credit card only to find it sitting on an empty table. The food versus the cost is a big thing. We can get great Tex/Mex for much cheaper. We chose Uncle Julio's because it is close, and thought it might be a little more tasty. The cheese dip was expensive and mediocre. I bought the largest size and it was not enough to feed more than 2 people. My husband got the tacos and they were ok, but not remarkable. I attended this restaurant celebrating a family members birthday. Very nice location and spacious facility . The service was very. The average rating is given due to the food and the very high prices. My wife ordered chicken quesadillas that had no taste and cost $20. I had to wait 5 minutes for a host, and two different hosts came to the stand and ignored me. They could have acknowledged me but did not. The server appeared to be overwhelmed and 2 out of 3 orders were wrong. They attempted to fix one and the enchilada returned as basically a tortilla with some chicken in it and queso on top. The cheese and onion enchilada came out as chicken, to the vegetarian who ordered it. She gave up and didn't order anything else. The two enchiladas were taken off. It hurts my heart to leave a bad review for this place, as the location I lived near in Chicago was absolutely wonderful! This location unfortunately... is not. Standard Tex-Mex. Waited an hour for a table. Fine, it was a busy Friday night. Finally seated in the bar where we asked not to be seated. Went to sit in my chair and dang near fell out of it the chair was so broken. My dad kindly gave me his high top chair, we told the hostess we needed a new chair. She said she was on it. 15 minutes later my dad is still standing and no one has even come to offer water yet, I thought they forgot about us. Our waitress finally came by, she was incredibly sweet and nice! Notes the chair issue again, and I watched her take the broken chair to another table 5 feet away where no one sitting for another kind soul to fall out of another day. Chips and salsa brought out, asked for hot salsa. PSA, they don't have hot salsa. I ate one bite, same as mild. Ordered food. I got the Mexican Caesar salad with no protein but asked for roasted cauliflower with mine instead. My folks ordered a fajita plate to share. It's dead by this time. One hour later, our food arrives. I had been waiting so long I wasn't even really hungry anymore. No cauliflower, they forgot. Terrible experience. My folks love this place, said they go often and this was the worst experience ever, but "it's normally better." I'm not convinced. read more
