MY AMAZING DELICIOUS BEAN AND CHICKEN AND LETTUCE AND CHIPS
    Carolina M.

I know, I know. How many times can you talk about Chile burrito. WELL, every Friday, but if I did that, I would probably get banned on yelp. Anyways, I've come back today to tell you about the service. I love Chile burrito and I love the people there more. I've grown up there basically - 15 years of Fridays. The food is TO DIE FOR- obviously - but it's the people that make me come back. Just last Friday, they ran out of limes, so my father goes up to ask for more. Usually, they just restock it and we move on, but something happened a week ago. One employee came up to our table, warmly greeted us, made some jokes, and served us limes right then and there. We were all so surprised but so pleased. Plus, every time I go up to order, the same man will ask me to order in Spanish knowing that I'm taking a class for it. He always tells me it's so I can do better and it's crazy the connection you can make with these people and how they brighten your day. Final thing - every Friday that we are there, a lady comes to meet my grandma and talk about her life and make small jokes. My grandma doesn't like going out, but she goes for her because she says it's the highlight of her experience. Just remember, one interaction might not be enough to get the full picture of a person. Take a chance and go more than once - ask questions, make small talk, and be kind. I promise I'm not making this up because my family has had horrible experiences at restaurants the first time, but the next blows us away with perfection. That being said, try again.

Every once in a while you stumble upon something and you wonder why you hadn't been there before. Such is the chase with Chile Burrito. I mean, it's not like it's hidden or hard to find, I just hadn't been into the unexpectedly large retail area that it's located in until recently. What I didn't expect to find from its rather unassuming store front was AWESOMENESS. The first thing you notice is color. From the mural on the wall to the streamers hanging from the ceiling to the chairs that are all kinds of colors, Chile Burrito is a festival of colors from the second you walk in the door. The menu is laid out on chalk boards above the food area, hand written in various colors of chalk. The menu options are huge and run the gambit of all of your Mexican favorites from tacos to burritos to quesadillas to bowls, each available with a protein (or two) of your choice. Like other fast casual Mexican eateries, as you go down the line you add the ingredients you want to suite your taste. Some come with an upcharge, some don't. Items that come with an upcharge are listed on the menu board above. It isn't hard or confusing at all. While some reviewers state confusion about how/where to order, I have to wonder why. Have they never been to QDoba? Chipotle? Along with posting a photo of the menu, I've also included a close-up of one particular section of the menu. Consider yourself challenged. My choice was a chicken bowl with cilantro-lime rice, add some fajita veggies and sour cream. A side of chips and salsa, of course, because this meal needs to be well-rounded. One nice thing is the salsa bar, with five different salsas of different varieties and heat levels. I tried all five and found my favorite to the three-pepper Tomatilla d'arbol. Nice flavor, a little smoky, and just enough heat to let you know it's there. My food was great. I don't know what kind of seasoning or marinade they used on the chicken but it was amazingly good and very moist, not dry like some other places. The chips were good but a bit thick for my taste (nothing I'd take any points away for), and worked well with the various flavors of salsa. During my roughly 40 minute visit the dining room and trash were tended to a couple times and the salsa station and drink station wiped down to keep them clean. During my monthly visits to Brentwood I'm always on the lookout for great places to eat. This one just go added to my rotation.

10" burrito with chips and fruit tea

Stopped in Chile Burrito after a day of shopping in Nashville. It's in the same lot as TJ Maxx/Home Goods and Nordstrom Rack. Similar to Chipotle in that you order what you want and customize it down the line. Service was fast but we had no line. Cost ~$40 for three people. A little pricey but maybe because we had a few add ons like guac. I got the smoked beef brisket 10" burrito. Good size, can't imagine getting a larger one (they offer the Titan - a 3 foot long burrito for those up for the challenge!!) Brisket was juicy and flavorful. Added guac and queso and mushrooms for extra charge. Lots of toppings. Comes with rice and beans and cheese if you like. Chips were homemade and crispy, not oily. Great crunch. A variety of salsas and hot sauces at the salsa bar are available. Baja Fruit Tea was the highlight for me, a mango tea ... can't tell if it's a black tea base or what but really tasty and definitely recommend!! Seemingly unlimited refills so I also tried the Horchata but it was weak and tasted more like water. Friends said quesadilla and burrito bowl were also good. Big portion sizes for the bowl. Bathrooms on-site and clean. Happy to find Tex Mex in Brentwood!

Great portion sizes! Quick and good service! It's a Brentwood staple that been around for years!

Cons...no margaritas or delivery. Everything else is fantastic. The prices are reasonable. The food is diverse as far as choices and the employees are super nice and helpful. I will go out of my way to head to Brentwood to eat or grab takeout here as the food is delicious. It's similar to a Chipotle where you lineup to order and tell them what you'd like in your taco/burrito/bowl but the food, in my humble opinion, is tastier than the big chain and the vibe at the store is better. Their spicy salsa is fantastic and indeed spicy. They have a station with salsas, jalapenos, onions, cilantro, etc. Large rolls of paper towels at the tables too, as I go through a lot of paper towels lol. Seriously, folks, this is a no-fuss spot to pick up great tasting food and support a local family business. You won't be disappointed!

Over the last four years, I've made more work trips to Brentwood than I can count--and I thought I…read morehad just about completed the local Mexican restaurant tour. Turns out, I missed one. On my most recent visit, I discovered Cinco De Mayo quite by accident, and curiosity (and hunger) pulled me in. Tucked just off I-65 near Old Hickory, this place is a bit of a hidden gem. You're not likely to stumble across it unless you're looking--or unless the roadside sign does what it did for me and waves you in like a culinary lighthouse. I stopped in on a Wednesday evening and immediately noticed two things: A) This place is way bigger than it looks from the outside, and B) This place was absolutely hopping. It has that "busy every night" energy--the kind of place that clearly has a loyal following. Inside, it's festive and colorful, with streamers and Mexican-themed décor throughout. There are multiple dining areas, and I was seated (as a party of one) at a table for four on what I assume was the lower level. Plenty of space to stretch out and contemplate life choices...or just the menu. Service started a little slow. After about five minutes, my server (whose name remained a mystery guest star) took my drink and food order and then vanished into the night. He eventually returned with iced tea and chips and salsa. The chips leaned a bit thick for my preference, but the salsa was fresh and flavorful--definitely a strong opening act. The menu is extensive, featuring all the usual Tex-Mex suspects at reasonable prices. Since it was my first visit, I went with a combo plate--the "greatest hits album" approach--to sample a few different items. You'll find all the heavy hitters here: Combo plates for the indecisive (or the strategic) Enchiladas and burritos in multiple variations A surprisingly deep seafood section Chicken dishes, fajitas, and a lineup of specialty items My food arrived in about ten minutes, piping hot and clearly made to order. Everything was solid across the board--no weak links, no surprises, just good, reliable Tex-Mex done right. While dining, I couldn't help but notice the rhythm of the staff. Some were in full hustle mode, keeping things moving efficiently. Others...not so much. My server, for instance, operated more on a "cameo appearance" schedule. My iced tea sat empty long enough to start feeling abandoned before he happened to notice it while tending to another table--one that, incidentally, seemed to get a bit more attention. There's always something satisfying about discovering a spot you didn't know existed--especially when it delivers where it counts. Cinco De Mayo is a solid find with good food and a lively atmosphere. If the service were a bit more dialed in, it could easily move from "good" to "go-to."

Nothing too special, but also nothing plain terrible. I popped in for lunch recently after wanting to enjoy a bit more than Moe's when the Mexican craving hit. I went to Yelp and ended up here. Sitting at the corner of the plaza, Mexicali Grill has a good sized interior dining room inclusive of a few sections and a bar, then outside they have a nice patio. I landed in one of the booths inside. Service was friendly and helpful. Not very attentive, but when she did stop by, she was pleasant. For lunch I started with a small queso to go along with the chips and salsa. Chips and queso were standard, and salsa had a bit of a kick to it. As I do most times at Mexican spots, I went with the tried and true chicken, cheese and rice, also known as the Mexicali Pollo here. It was sided with tortillas and I went with flour. The chicken was cut and cooked well and presented on a bed of rice then smothered in queso. The dish was okay. The chicken was under-seasoned, so the dish as a whole was a bit underwhelming. The menu is smaller than most Tex-Mex spots, but still offers a variety of house dishes along with the classics. While I understand we are in Brentwood, those prices...small queso ran me $7.50 and my meal was $16.99. Lunch, which included a water, ran me close to $30 before tip. Overall, based on value, Mexicali Grill was not worth it for me. While I will not actively avoid this place, I also will not go out of my way to eat here again.

The veggies were cooked well and not raw like I've had at other restaurants. The corn tortillas tasted like they might be house made and fresh. I also appreciated the salsa bar. The restaurant itself was clean and well decorated. However, the women's bathroom had a bottle of soap that was 95% water and didn't leave my hands feeling very clean. The hand dryer was also unplugged and there were no hand towels. What really brings my review down is the service. The service was definitely subpar. Our waitress was also the bartender and paid more attention to the people at the bar than our table. She didn't check on us throughout our meal, and only refilled my water once when she brought our food out. When we were done, we didn't know if they'd bring a bill to us or if we were suppose to go to the front desk, as she never said anything to us. Every single staff in the restaurant was on their personal phones, leaving the restaurant to take personal calls, and fraternizing more than working. We also witnessed several food safety violations including our waitress sticking her hands in her pants in the back to tuck her shirt, and another waitress playing with her hair excessively, all without washing their hands before interacting with customers again. While good food, I don't know that I'll go back given the experience we had with the staff. I really question cleanliness when behaviors like that are happening in front of customers.
