The tortillas are made in house and this order comes with four tortillas. I would say everything from the carne to the tortillas and everything in between was average. Maybe a tick above Tex Mex. Wife loves it here because of the drinks and the very nice venue..... But this is my review. 2-3 stars all day. I only choose to go when she wants to, otherwise I wouldn't go. Only because it was my g-daughter's birthday, I ended up at Uncle Julio's. Granted, we had a late reservation but the staff was great in getting us seated and making sure we were ok. However, the walk from the hostess table left me uneasy as there were dirty tables and food and napkins on the floor. I chalked this up to the lack of waiters and waitresses, and they focused more on the food. However, our waiter was amicable and knowledgeable. I asked if one of the dishes could be made without bacon, and he mentioned unfortunately not. After I order my entree, he mentioned the beans that came with the rice had bacon. So he offered to substitute with black beans, which didn't have bacon. When I received my dish, everything was good.. As we were slowing down, the waiter asked if we wanted boxes and the check. After paying for the bill, we noticed there was bacon in the beans I got. While I was upset, I chalked up the mistake with the kitchen versus the waiter. Great environment! The marketplace area is already one of my favorites. Uncle Julio's had a great environment and with their indoor-outdoor seating and open doors it was perfect for those that love AC but still like to feel like you're outside. There happened to be love music when we went so I was dancing all the way through dinner. The Swirl (Frozen Margarita & Sangria) was delicious. I would recommend for those who like flavored frozen margs. I also had the Guadalajara Fajitas- so good! The bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp and steak were delicious. Chicken was good too. The staff made some other good recommendations for our table. The tortillas are so soft and with the "open-style" kitchen you can see them toast the tortillas and cooking- I love that. The tables are spaced out enough where you don't feel on top of other parties and you can comfortably have your own conversation. Bathrooms are clean and not cramped. There was a spill on the floor by our table that left one of our seats wet that the staff seemed to acknowledge but not address but it wasn't a huge deal - just wish they would've wiled down the seats first before seating us- we just switched out the chairs from another table. One of the worst experiences ever at an Uncle Julio's. A party of 6 sitting in the bar area on a pretty slow Saturday. We had planned on spending time catching up with family over lunch. Family from Richmond, Culpeper, Baltimore, and Woodbridge all met here based on location and good Mexican food. Our bartender had a small section and he just seemed to have no interest in being at work. Numerous times forgot to put our drink orders in. We had to pre bus our table because without us taking the initiative to stack them, the appetizer and empty glasses built up around us and he would not take them. We stayed an extra 30 minutes just waiting for the check and to place one last order. You have to make eye contact in the service industry and if he just glanced in our direction he would have known we wanted him to come to the table. The kicker was on a $300 bill he didn't personally come to bring the check and thank us for the business. We assumed this would be a gratuity already added situation however it was not. What could have been a 25% tip reduced to 18%. I would never leave less than that even with awful service because you have to bring your A game everyday in the restaurant business. We completed the 4 question survey upon checking out. We never saw a manager on the floor or behind the bar. We will choose other options next time we visit this area. read more

There are so many awesome food options to choose from in Woodbridge. My suggestion is you pick one of those over this place! Went here on a busy Saturday night. We don't expect the best service, but we do expect our food to come out right. Guillermo was our server. He was at first okay, but seemed like he was overwhelmed with tables. At this point he should've gotten his manager involved earlier. Food took awhile to come out after ordering. We waited for at least 20 minutes. After waiting awhile for the food, it finally arrived. The fajitas for 2 were missing a side of tortillas. It really looked like it was only fajitas for 1. The enchilada dish came out with the wrong sauce. Our server was no where to be found. Fast forward 10 minutes, and we finally had to flag down another server to have him help us. It was about 15 minutes total waiting for the tortillas. By this time, the fajitas were cold. Meanwhile, Guillermo told me that he could either "take my enchiladas off the check" or "have the kitchen remake it" how about both, I thought?! Enchiladas came out after everyone had finished eating. Thanks to a manager, he got involved and made sure the remake came out okay. He took the enchiladas and the fajitas off the check. Perhaps this location needs more waitstaff, better training, or more involvement of managers. If you, as a manager, see your servers struggling, you should step in and help out. If you, as a server, are too busy to the point where you can't keep up, you should get your manager involved. Giving 2 stars for the manager that helped us and the food. We won't be back. read more

This is by far the worst uncle Julio's I've visited. My family and I wanted to have some quality time and eat, so we decided to give uncle Julio's in Woodbridge, VA a try. We've been before at the Reston and Arlington locations during dinner rush hour and we're seated quickly. When we arrived at 2pm when we saw a lot of empty tables and ample staff to take care of the customers, but they had us waiting for almost 30minutes to be seated. After been seated, our table wasn't fully prepared with all glassware and silverware. We literally were unnoticed for almost another 20 minutes. Our waitress kept passing by our table and simply ignored us the whole time. She finally came to greet us when maybe the host told her we're her table. By the way, we didn't see any bit of sense of urgency in her. When it came to ordering our food, I really wanted the SIGNATURE TRIO JALISCO, the dish description was a mouthwatering experience, it was like: this is all I need. When my food arrived I told our server it was missing the steak, she replied she'll check in the back. Once she returned she said that this is how it comes and if I wanted steak I needed to choose between steak and shrimp, otherwise normally comes with Chicken and shrimp. I was like, but the name says TRIO, meaning three. I also told her that even in the menu is advertised that comes like this: "Spicy mesquite grilled jumbo shrimp, with mesquite grilled skirt steak & chicken fajitas. Served with Mexican butter". Whoever told you this don't know how to read, I added. I guess she was cornered because her only answer was that her manager had told her that it comes only with 2 items, not 3 like it says in the description. Really really bad uncle Julio's. False advertising, trying to insinuate I don't understand the menu and not trying to make things right. Oh and the dish was really pricy, but I was willing to pay if it had came like advertised, but I was annoyed even the manager says normally comes with chicken and shrimp. I actually love the food, ambiance and service at all of the different Uncle Julio's restaurants I have been to in the DMV. The reason I am giving a poor rating is because of one bad experience on May 27th. The website for the Woodbridge location says that Uncle Julio's delivers for $1 (click here) after I ordered and paid I was given a "pick up" time. I called immediately and was transferred to someone who could help me. She told me that Uncle Julio's did not deliver and "that shouldn't be there and I'll have to talk with someone about that". Then she asked me if they should make the food and could come pick it up. I explained to her that I was not able to and said she would cancel the order. I checked my account and I was charged $148.43 on food I never received and a $1 for a delivery order I never ordered. After 15 minutes on the phone with my bank I will still need to wait to see how the dispute of charges will be settled. read more

PROS: 1) Diana the bartender was very friendly and welcoming. 2) The Carne Asada (steak) was tender. CONS: 1) Manager sat at the bar & then in random booths playing on his phone the entire time. Very unprofessional but it seems as though this establishment is run by a very young crew (20s?). At least the front of the house... 2) The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips (which were average) is EXTREMELY WATERY. I prefer a little chunkier & FLAVORFUL salsa. It literally tastes like dipping chips in slightly spicy WATER. The salsa doesn't adhere to the chips at all. Very bland. 3) I ordered carne asada & while the steak itself was cooked properly. It was NOT seasoned properly throughout the cooking process. Very bland. Onions and peppers were very uneven & some were almost burnt to a crisp. 4) Sopapillas. Mexican version of beignets. The execution & presentation were UNACCEPTABLE. First off, I had a burnt crisp pulled pork chunk served with my sopapillas. The cinnamon & powdered sugar were uneven in coating & covered the entire plate including the edges. There was a fingerprint in the "dust". Gross. The dough was slightly undercooked & not pleasant to chew. Very doughy. I will say this portion is way too big for $7!! 5) Bacon wrapped shrimp. $5.20 for two minuscule shrimp wasn't my issue. What I was served shows me the kitchen staff & manager don't care about what is coming out of the kitchen. My shrimp was old & the bacon was so dry & BURNT. Cheese was overpowering & not melted. I didn't feel it was freshly made. Tasted like it had been sitting under a heating lamp for a while... 6) Mexican rice. I sent the first one back. The second one was the same. It was warmer but half of the rice was undercooked verging on UNCOOKED & the other half was mushy. This is a fairly large venue with outdoor seating & I'm told UJ gets busy very often. It's surprising with such a high turnover in food that this is the disappointing meal that I received. The execution of these dishes is just a hair above Chili's or Taco Bell. I wasn't expecting authentic Mexican food but the foundation of cooking skills is not evident. While I don't rate service, I would say Diana was the star of the show. The salsa is really delicious! However, the rest of our food was extremely subpar. The rice served with enchiladas tasted like they threw uncooked rice on a plate. They remade it, and it came out cold again. This was different food because the food I first complained about was left on the table. There were 9 of us at my table and 5 of us had cold food. The server said this has happened before. The manager came over. Said they would remake the food. Then that was the last we saw of him. The tortilla chips were served in an upside down top used to keep food warm like you would use on a tray. And it was dirty and chipped.
