I arrived at 9:15, And even though it was very busy, I was able to get seated right away. When I left at 10 o'clock, there was a line of about 15 people waiting to sit down and eat. With that many locals willing to wait that long for a meal here you know it's got to be good! The waitresses were attentive, friendly, and polite, keeping up with coffee, dishes, and water, always with a smile. Small neighborhood cafe on 4th street, with a small-town friendly service and great breakfast. It was a cold December weekday morning for us, so no line out the door. Service was very attentive -- my coffee mug was always full. I had a French Toast combo, the 2x2x2 - - it was delicious! Others in my party had omelettes, pancakes, and all were happy. Cute little Cafe'. The Hostess apparently didn't want to be working today as she just threw the menus on the table and walked away. At least our waiter was friendly and attentive. I ordered an omelet, had good flavor and the portions were abundant. I would say the hash browns were the best part. My mother had a French Toast "Sandwich " Of which she said she enjoyed. read more

Uncle Loui's is kind of like a diner -- super casual greasy spoon type place that serves up pretty tasty breakfast for those who are lovers of breakfast foods and those who need to load up on carbs after a big night out. Perfect place if you need grub after a big night. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. I loved the fact that there are actually places to hang your coats on the booths. Breakfast wasn't fancy, but I didn't want it to be. We ordered the corned beef hash and the biscuits and gravy. Personally I liked the biscuits better. The gravy was creamy, sausage-y and thick. The biscuits were buttery and fluffy. The hashbrowns could have used some extra time on the grill. There were parts that were delightfully crunchy and brown but lots of parts that were not brown at all -- not uncooked but not really what you think of when you think of a plate of killer hashbrowns. The corned beef hash was good -- a bit salty. I wondered if it came out of a can or was made in house. But definitely passable. My husband and I do the thing where we order two things and each eat half of each item. I think that a full plate of the corned beef hash would have been too much for me. Too salty. We ordered poached eggs with both dishes and Uncle Loui's went three for four. Three were poached nicely, one was way over and not runny at all. We also got a pancake with one of the meals -- we asked for strawberries and whipped cream because why not? It was very tasty -- thick and fluffy with a good flavor and delicious. We didn't even need syrup because the whipped cream and fruit did the trick. Coffee was kind of blah. But we do like some really strong coffee, so that could be on us. But if we are having a hankering for a good solid breakfast, then Uncle Loui's will definitely do the trick. Bonus points for across the street parking in the lot (pay attention to the sign, there's a specific row you have to park in). read more

The reason I give this 5 stars: some of the best pancakes I've ever had in my life. Uncle Louies, pre-fire, was a place that my family and I went to randomly when I was really young living in Duluth. I remember the place being so unbearably smokey before the state-wide smoking ban, but we went for the pancakes. Usually wasn't even that busy, save for a few regulars on the stools at the bar reading the paper cover to cover and puffing on their Old Golds. Nowadays after the remodel/rebuild, the smoke is long gone and the place is usually packed with college kids, families of 4, and occasionally when I go back to Duluth, I check out this place for breakfast and I try to bring along someone who has never experienced it before. It's always the same no-nonsense staff that quickly delivers, and patrons all but hover over you waiting for your open seat. read more

The wait staff was fast and spunky.They did a great job keeping pace with the visitors from out of town for the fall colors. I love that our host brought us to our table and came right back with our drinks. One person was designated just for filling waters. Our waitress came by and asked if our daughter wanted a refill on her whipped cream atop her French toast. Ha! How thoughtful! The biscuits had to have been from scratch. They were perfect and delicious. The only con I could possibly think of is the cappuccino is from powder. Great place to have breakfast and we will make this place a traditional stop. Such kind, hard-working, efficient, courteous and thoughtful staff makes such a difference! Thank you! Came in here with my friend to grab some brunch while she was visiting. Usually from what I here and driving past it a few times, this place is always packed and there's a line out the door. Great for business but not very convenient. I have heard legends and stories about this place from various college aged friends; this is the spot to come from a great breakfast bite and is a great recovery option from a long evening prior (aka hangover food heaven). Fortunately for us, the line wasnt the case today and we happened to find an open table immediately (I think we were lucky). I ordered the gyro omelette and my friend had a salad and french toast. The gyro combo was pretty great, pleanty of veggies and came with taziki sauce (crucial gyro piece). The french toast was great as well. Service was pretty good at checking on us but not extraordinary. We enjoyed outselves and our food. The place started to fill up and the imfamous line formed halfway through our meal so we didnt linger too long so we could give our spot to others. Overall, this was a great diner style brunch sure to cure any hangover but not to sure how quick I will be to come back with how busy it is. read more

We're from Minneapolis and stopped here heading back out of town and so happy we did. Both my wife and myself had an awesome breakfast here. There was a little bit of a wait, but I don't think we waited more then 10 minutes to get in. Service was hussling to get tables cleared and to wait on people so that was cool to see. What we got for food was amazing as well. We both got a full plate of food that tasted great and we both left full. Considering our order was just over 20$, you can't ask for much more than that. Stopped in for breakfast with some friends... arrived around 8am on a Sunday morning. We were able to find a table in the back (but there were only about 4 tables left open at that point). By 9am when we left, all tables were full and a short line was beginning to form. Prices were reasonable. Service wasn't overly friendly, but they were attentive and the food arrived after a reasonable wait. Enjoyed my omelette... cheese, sausage and green peppers, prepared well-done per my request. My husband and I came here this morning. I ordered the stuffed French toast which is essentially Texas toast dipped in pancake batter with blueberry pie filling and whipped cream. I mean it was good. But nothing outstanding. I actually prefer my French toast dipped in a more traditional French toast batter with cinnamon sugar not buttermilk. My husband order a kielbasa breakfast platter with potatoes and over easy eggs. Just standard breakfast food in a divey diner. The reviews honestly overhyped the place. I wouldn't go out of my way to get breakfast here or anything unless I was like too hungover to make myself breakfast and was really craving pancakes or breakfast foods. I do like supporting local businesses though so they have that going for them. I can't say I would wait 20 minutes or longer for a spot though. read more
