This restaurant is part of, what I believe to be, a historic hotel. We parked on the Main Street side and had to walk through the hotel lobby to Get to the restaurant. We could then see that there was another door at the back with parking lot. But, we are glad we had the experience of walking thru the quaint hotel lobby. The Hotel lobby desk still had the cubby holes where I assume the room keys are kept and also if one wanted to leave a message for someone staying there. But, we were here for breakfast so on to the food review. We got there around 8 am and by 8:30 the place started to fill up. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit and were promptly given menus and our drink orders were taken. Staff are friendly and our food order arrived quickly. My husband ordered the 2x2x2 which was two eggs over easy, two sausage Pattie's and two pancakes. He said it was good but average at best. I ordered a cranberry juice drink and the breakfast burrito with taco meat and hash browns. It arrived with a side of salsa and sour cream. The hash browns were average and the burrito, which was cut in half, was tasty with the taco meat, cheese, onion and green peppers rolled inside. I took 1/2 home and had it for a late lunch and it reheats well in the microwave. If in town again I would not hesitate to stop back at this restaurant, however, we are the type to continually try new to us places unless it is so phenomenal that we can't wait to get back there. I am sure for the locals this is their go to place and it showed as the restaurant was almost filled by the time we left.

Food is good. Great omelettes & hashbrowns. The staff is friendly and servers help each other out. Great weekend break fast spot in Duluth/Superior area when you find trouble with the long wait line like at the Duluth grill where we 102 on there list to get a table. Superior Family Restaraunt also make tasty Swedish pancakes with fruit compotes or Fresh fruit too. This is a Hidden gem Family restaraunt. The banana roll up pancake with Nutella was gobbled up by our son.

We were in town for Grandma's Marathon. We had literally just made a 20 hour drive from NC after our flight was canceled and walked into this place for breakfast/lunch. We were told to seat ourselves so we grabbed a cozy booth in the corner. Server was great -- attentive and kept our drinks refilled. All our orders were correct. Husband and I both ordered the gyro skillet with eggs over easy. It was FABULOUS. There was lots of gyro meat with a perfect amount of feta, Tzatziki, and all the other toppings. So good! Although, once we had ordered I saw on a tv display that they had gluten free pancakes! I had no idea because it wasn't listed on the menu. I would have loved some GF pancake carb loading. Son was disappointed that they had no vinegar based dressings at all for his salad -- only thick ones. He ate it without dressing. Overall, a great experience. So glad we found this little gem.

This was on a Sunday! This is attached to a hotel but obviously a local spot. We had a cheeseburger, eggs Benedict and corn beef hash. All the food was great. The hashbrowns came out extra crispy ans not burnt. Hollandaise was tasty.

Here is my Eggs benedict and my daughter's one egg combo. Cooked to perfection

My beverage was amazing and food was great, one of the people in our group said the homemade vegetable soup was the best soup they've ever had. To be honest the food was really good but the staff was just amazing. The hostess, server, even person who walking by answered a question and wasn't our server were all just beyond top notch. Like the service you'd get at a upper end steak house (but even better than that). I think the food is great, the servers are TOP NOTCH and for sure recommend. I'd give six stars if I could.

They also have a window into the kitchen, so you can see the chefs cooking! Our server was very sweet and attentive! It was their first day too!! Woohoo! I got the Rise of the Phoenix mocktail, which was so yummy! Perfect for a hot day! Had a good amount of vegetarian options, which is always lovely to see! I ended up getting the Wild Rice Hot Dish because it felt so quintessentially Minnesotan. I didn't end up loving it. I thought it needed more flavoring and spicing it up, but I know that that is NOT quintessentially Minnesotan. But my whole group thought it could have used a little something-something. BUT we also got the Mac and Kim-cheese and that was so good and flavorful! Such a fun combo! Would definitely get that dish again!

The only small downside was that the Brussels sprouts were still a little undercooked for our taste, but everything else was excellent and more than made up for it. Excellent brisket, fish n chips, and build your own burger! The garlic aioli and IPA mustard sauces were definitely memorable. We went to the Lake Ave. location in Canal Park since it was walking distance. Walking into the establishment you are greeted with the aromas breakfasts being made and a hostess who was friendly. We opted to eat outside under the covered patio to enjoy the day. The menu has plenty of options to suit one's fancy - pancakes, waffles, pecan/cinnamon rolls for those with a sweet-tooth, and of course any number of savory plates for the rest of us. Making an eating decision can prove difficult. the Huevos Rancheros looked appealing as did the breakfast sandwich, and the brisket eggs Benedict. I opted for what was behind door number four and picked the country fried steak and eggs. Much to my delight, instead of the usually Sysco food distributor breaded chopped steak topped with a gravy from an institutional food can - They actually used a rib-eye for the steak, and homemade gravy. I also had the option of toast or a pancake. I always love me some decent rye toast, but today was a day to mix it up, and the pancake was nice, and not too big. I also liked that there was an option for blueberry syrup, or Maple syrup. The other item ordered was the Greek Omelet, my wife truly enjoyed it, and they also cooked her hash-browns to order which she appreciated (she likes them really, really crispy). I this will definitely be a must have place to eat every time we are in Duluth. I highly recommend this place.

I think the boozy brunch crowd comes in late morning. We were seated quickly and ordered breakfast. We got the usual pancakes, French toast, etc. Everything was good. Best ever? No, but pretty solid and the portions were generous. The kids ate it, which is most important. The service was good, too. It was a bit hectic for the staff because they sat like 8 parties of 4 all at once - all with kids, so it was a lot for them to manage, but they pulled through and we were well taken care of. I heard it gets packed by mid-late morning, so if you can, get there early!

I said no at first because it looked like a depressed bar but what set it to a yes instead was the glorious smell that wafted from the restaurant during the afternoon before we went while they were freshly smoking their meats. So when the decision came to find a place, we said why not? We came on a Friday, which was even better, because we were able to take advantage of their Friday fish fry. I looked on Yelp to see what we should order while here and the fish fry got a lot of mentions so we decided to try that and some of their BBQ. The fish fry was worth the mention. It was AYCE but I would be surprised if you could want more after the first plate with their generous portions sizes. The fries were in-house hand cut and covered with Parmesan cheese. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. It was a great Up North-style fish fry. The BBQ was very good as well. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and it came on a giant bun. Once again, the portion sizes were very generous. The sandwich came with a side of homemade BBQ sauce but honestly the meat had such a good flavor I didn't even need to add any to the sandwich. I have to give them a thumbs up for making many of their items like sauces and sides in-house even though it seemed like they could get away with less quality for being a small town bar & grill. This place really hit the spot, we were looking for no frills comfort food, and that is exactly what we found at The Shack. Price point vs. portion sizes were great and the service was small town friendly and prompt. Looks can be deceiving but The Shack isn't the dumpy bar I thought it was at first and I am glad we gave this place a shot.
