I didn't see that with the construction and detours, so I parked in a tow-away zone right in front of the eight-foot monument. No, I didn't get a ticket, but I didn't stay as long as I would have liked either. The statue is 8 feet high, made of bronze and created by Thomas Jay Warren. The statute depicts Coltrane with his tenor saxophone. It was dedicated on September 20th, 2006, on what would have been Coltrane's 80th birthday. I liked that there was a storyboard about John Coltrane and his career to read, and that there was a nearby historical marker. "My music is the spiritual expression of what I am ~ my faith, my knowledge, my being." Coltrane was born in Hamlet, NC, but moved to High Point as an infant and grew up living with his extended family. Coltrane grew up with music; his father played the ukulele, and his mother was a trained singer and pianist. Coltrane first started playing the clarinet and alto horn. Then, at William Penn High School, he joined the band and started playing the saxophone. Coltrane found solace in music after the deaths of his father, grandfather and uncle. Coltrane moved to Philadelphia and joined the Navy. He collaborated with other legends like Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. He overcame his addiction to drugs and alcohol. His "spiritual awakening" led him to more spiritual music. Coltrane's career was cut short as his untimely death from liver cancer took him at age 40. But he left a lasting legacy with albums such as Blue Train, Giant Steps and A Love Supreme. .

Went and saw four amazing jazz ladies performing this past weekend....Lovely quaint location but…read moregreat acoustics and great singers and performers, many of which are legends in our area on this show...Also got a little snack and a drink while there and the staff was friendly and definitely hoping to make some return trips..definitely glad I went.....Some pictures on the wall and some basic but classy decor..while I was there they were honoring Dr Cicely Mitchell, a true Music Pioneer here in the area as well........Definitely hoping to return back...

We've been here a few times to see jazz performances from small quartets to big bands. It's in an…read moreunassuming office park and easy to miss. Also the decor is pretty bare-bones. What you gain, however, is a close-up experience with the musicians. Seating is at small tables in in intimate room. The sound has always been good and the artists often interact with patrons. It used to be BYOB but now they do sell limited alcoholic drinks plus snacks. This is part of a school that also teaches jazz, so they have a multifaceted mission. Come for a cool, adult experience listening to great jazz.

Howard introduced his amazing 17 yr old nephew on guitar. The backup singers were phenomenal. The bass player was GREAT! The drummer was oh So handsome and was ripping the drums up! Food was delicious. Service was great and I arrived late but sat with a nice couple who was celebrating his birthday too. I'll return again and again. I parked on P2 and the club validates parking at a reduced rate at $7.00.
