I went here not realizing it was no longer a Mexican restaurant. Located on the 2nd story over Tate Street next to UNCG. I got the Tarheel Smash burger to go. It came with potato wedges. I had a beer while waiting at the bar. Some large groups came in with a lot of kids, but the staff did not miss a beat. They have quite a large menu as you can see. My burger was very good and I'll be back again! Edit: side note: today I received a Notice of Non compliance for parking in a private lot from Professional Parking Management. I parked in the Upper Deck parking to order my food. I went over and they do have parking fee signs all over which I missed. The vibe at Upper Deck was nice. We did arrive a little late, but we were still able to be served, and I really appreciated that because I know a lot of places close their kitchens early. The drinks from the bartender were great, but the service experience could have been better. The attitude and overall energy felt a little off. It seemed like there was a lot going on, and the way we were serviced was affected by that. The service was very straight-faced, and a few items we requested were forgotten. I understand they were getting closer to closing and focused on cleaning up, but we had to go out of our way--almost waving or being extra noticeable--to get their attention. Also, when we asked about the specials listed on the flyer, we were told there were no specials, which was disappointing and felt like false advertising. Wow, I was so incredibly surprised by how good my food was. I ordered it for the first time through door dash and the pita that came with the spinach artichoke dip was still crispy. I couldn't stop eating it, the consistency was nice and dense and the flavor was so good! I also ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich- which also arrived super crispy! It was huge! Two big pieces of perfectly fried chicken. I ended up taking one piece off to make another sandwich for lunch tomorrow. I was expecting pickled jalapeños and they were fresh (too hot for me so I took them off) . That hot honey flavor was perfect. After they looked up we just asked to go to bar. Cool. Our waitress, Molly, was new but honestly the best thing about this place. Placed our order...WAITED FOR 45 MINUTES only for food to come out cold along with a very rare burger. I grabbed the attention of our waitress and she grabbed the manager. He stated "they just came out" then after grabbing "oh there may be something wrong with the heat lamp". Our chicken app came out with food and was cold to the touch. He said "it's probably the sauce". As. former health inspector...what in the entire hell! I was like yea no. Both sent back. Fries (new order) were hot! Took about 10 minutes. The chicken....another 15. The original 6 piece returned as a 5 piece. I have been wanting to go here for so long. The menu looked so good. I like that they provide you with free parking. That is a huge plus. I didn't know there was parking up by the actual restaurant, so I parked at the bottom of the parking deck. The stairs to get up to the restaurant are cool. They aren't tiring either. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. It did take a while for drinks to come out. It didn't take long for food to come out. I ordered the spinach dip as an appetizer. The dip was okay, but the pita chips were amazing! I ordered the chicken philly and they made it how I like it. The fries were a bit weird, but they're unique. A brand new entrant in the heart of College Hill. I was impressed by some of their deals for beers on tap. The Upper Deck is nicely built inside with a well thought-out layout and attention on some of the finer details. I appreciated the central bar and their layout. We came to watch the Kentucky Derby. First, let me say the waitress was great. She kept track of all thirteen of our orders and did as she was trained. Her demeanor always remained professional and courteous. The food varied based upon what was ordered. Those who ordered sandwiches reported they were good; those that ordered salads said they were okay (the Cobb was missing the egg and the chicken tasted pre-cooked; one person was charged 75 cents for extra honey mustard dressing), and those that ordered burgers said they were mediocre, reporting that the meat was room temperature and had a texture that felt pre-cooked. Beer was great. The issue came from the management. A person in our party ordered a Mint Julep. The waitress had never heard of it and checked with the bartender to make sure it could be made. She said the bartender wasn't familiar with it, but could look it up and make it. The drink never came. One of us went to the bar, picked it up, and brought it to our table. The drink lacked color. When our friend drank it, she said she couldn't taste any bourbon. (A classic Mint Julep should have 2-2.5 oz of KY bourbon.) We asked for more bourbon to pour into the drink. When the bill came, our friend was charged $23 for the drink: $10 for the drink that was made incorrectly, $10 for the extra bourbon, $3 for the sprig of mint. All our wanted was to be compensated the $10 for the incorrectly made drink. Management said they could not do it, that it would be illegal for them to do it, and that the bartender followed "their" recipe and that, even though it may not be what she was used to, the drink was made in accordance with their recipe. In other words, they lied. Management can always "make it right" by offering a $10 compensation, but they would have none of it. The integrity of the restaurant is lacking, particularly regarding management. So many great restaurants exist in the area. (We ate at two other restaurants that week that were excellent and in the same price range.) Why take a chance on one like this? Reading other reviews shows that something is terribly wrong with The Upper Deck Kitchen.....and what they call cocktails. read more

Despite warnings from friends who've had bad experiences with the staff, despite finding ROACHES crawling across the bar (I have pictures), I've been patronizing this place quite often. I take groups of friends here to meet up when we all want to get together. My girlfriend and I met up here last night. We ordered food&drinks. Unfortunately, her mac&cheese was cold and bland. We immediately told the server, who basically ignored us. When she gave us the bill, I requested the $6 mac&cheese that had not been eaten be taken off the bill. Her immediate response was, "we don't take anything off the bill since it was made correctly". I told her i come there often and this wasn't true. She went to get the owner, who was rude from the beginning. She told another manager (Doc) to "go taste it" and when he came back, he confirmed it wasn't made correctly and didn't taste good. The owner began talking over us and saying we had an attitude and that's why she wasnt going to take it off. Thankfully, I recorded it and it shows how she was rolling her eyes behind her synthetic wig, rude, and nasty from the beginning. The server then chimed in that we were speaking with the owner and what she says goes. This place has a reputation for mistreating customers as well as staff. She made it clear that she doesn't care about us or our review. I hope they learn a few lessons in customer service, as well as new recipes. A new wig would also help. read more

We had a great time at upper deck. We have been wondering what was on the top of this building located on Tate Street. We did have about a 45 minute wait time for our food. It was a bit busier inside so that's possibly why the DJ was banging he definitely had his tracks down right and he had a positive vibe. I enjoyed the atmosphere and just had an opportunity to be in the setting for a nice brunch. We tried to chicken and waffles. Came in during my lunch break, sat down at the Bar and ordered a bourbon painkiller as the bartender called it, The bartender Ryan was amazing,I had 3 cocktails and they were all made the same,so Ryan is certainly consistent and then dropped some much needed bar knowledge on me which I truly enjoyed. I got the gridiron fries and they were spectacular. The staff are awesome here, the food was great and the cocktails and bartender were even better, he could probably use some help at times but nonetheless 10 out of 10. We were there for the basketball tournament televisions kept going out and we mussed several parts of the game! We ordered 20 wings and they came out incorrectly. We were told that they couldn't fix them and all they could just bring us out the sauce to put on our wings ourselves. Service wise our sever Mariah was good overall it just took us a while to wait for our bill in a party of 7. To which we were annoyed a bit at the end but once again she was attentive, polite, friendly and we enjoyed her and the other staff that helped throughout the night. The place looked clean, good lighting and not too loud even though I believe we sat under a ceiling speaker since some songs had us talking a bit longer than intended. Now to the food, everyone liked their drinks, the pepperoni tots, bacon and cheese tots, wings(should have been full wings), loaded fries appetizers were good. As for my philly cheesesteak personally I could have skipped it. It did taste a bit off and it was more bread that broke apart. The fries that were ok and we felt it wasn't alot of fries to go with the entree. I would've been fine with just the apps & my sweet tea. There is free parking which we didn't know until we came in but I'm glad that they have that option with the garage. We didn't like the separate charge of cash vs card. This is a new place close to UNCG campus. We went there for the first time and there was not alot of people in there but all the staff was walking around happy and ready to work. Who seem to be the manager was at the front and help us with parking and even visited our table to talk about the menu since it was a newer place. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this experience really disappointed me. My friends and I came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday. When we arrived around 1 AM, we were initially told the restaurant was closed, so we started to leave. As we were walking out, a server came after us and said they were actually staying open until 2 AM that night and invited us to come back in. We appreciated that and decided to stay. Unfortunately, once we sat down, the entire energy changed. Our server had a very poor attitude and seemed like he didn't want to take our order at all. The music and TVs were turned off, and staff began cleaning the entire dining room around us (1:15am). It created a very uncomfortable environment and made it feel like we were being rushed out, even though we had just been told they were open and welcomed back in. Almost everyone we interacted with came across as rude or bothered that we were there, which really took away from what was supposed to be a special night celebrating my best friend. The only positive part of the experience was the woman who came outside to get us and told us they were still open. I wish I remembered her name because she was the only person who showed kindness and professionalism. Thank you to her. I understand it was late, but if a restaurant chooses to stay open and invites guests back in, the service and atmosphere should still be respectful. Sadly, this experience left a bad impression. At the end of the night they blame their poor attitudes and poor service on the fact that it was the first night they're open till 2 AM. No excuses food and drinks was also trash and we won't be returning. read more

Wow!! What a fun spot. The live music was AMAZING! The wait staff was accommodating. It's a hidden gem. They validate parking so when you park make sure you take a picture of the QR code on the door. You have to go into the Sushi Rock parking lot then turn right to park by the door. The food was excellent. It's new so not overly crowded. I think this will the spot to be if you wanna go where everybody knows your name . I had the lavender lemon drop martini - delicious. The hotdog was good. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone - not even a stray dog or my worse enemy! We went today for their so-called brunch. The server was ok but failed to mention what they were out of and we ordered coffee after which she comes to the table with a handful of Splenda and we specifically asked for sugar not sugar substitute. We then asked for honey since she said they didn't have sugar. Then with my meal which was supposed to come with hash browns, I got grits without even being told they were out of hash browns. Well what do you know - here comes the check. We're charged for honey and honey mustard even though they were out of sugar (NOT MY PROBLEM!) and my friend was asked if she wanted honey mustard with her chicken tenders. These type of places don't last long because customer service is crappy and they nickel and dime their customers - Doc the manager came to the table with an attitude so he was pretty useless - talking about how expensive honey is. We had to tell him we are very aware of the cost of honey even though you don't have sugar to go with your crappy coffee that was served in a dollar tree styrofoam cup! Just horrible!!!! I DON'T RECOMMEND...... Don't don't it - OHHHHHH I almost forgot this part - then we were charged 20% gratuity for 2 people even though clearly on the menu it states for parties of 5 or more. So we ask the idiot manager Doc and we're told it's on the menu and on the menu at the front on the wall. It was very misleading. It's the principle you don't automoatically add gratuity - you're not a 5 star wine and dine restaurant - you're a mediocre bar who should not be selling food! Just get some Dan pretzels and popcorn.
