I have been here so many times and i am never disappointed. Im a huge fan of their original cheesecake which is soft and fluffy with light cheese flavour. Ive also tried their cheese twrts before (original, matcha, and yuzu) and the flavours are perfect. Most recently, i tried their coffee flavoured cheesecake and the strawberry angel hat cake. The coffee one has a distinct coffee flavour without it being overpowering. The strawberry angel hat cake was creamy and light with the perfect amount of strawberry flavour. This location is connected to the building with an external entrance but they do not have seats inside. It can get busy sometimes as there is only 1 person working but you never have to wait long since everything is already made. I will definitely be back to try the matcha and chocolate cheesecake and their cookies. read more

Not something one expects to have at a train station, but nonetheless, the aromas led me directly to this kiosk, and I am so damn glad it did. These cheesecakes are worth the hype: buttery soft, soufflé like, not overly sweet, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. After having the famous pancakes in Japan, I hadn't yet found anything comparable locally in the DC area. Turns out I just had to go to Canada. Hot tip: they only offer one size and it's huge. Had the cheesecake before and now there's a chocolate one (limited availability) so I had to get one. I had a really hard time finding the place because it was in the Union Station (Canada) and where I come from we don't have this kind of transportation available. After roaming around for 20 minutes I found someone who could give me directions. She had a yellow vest on and was some kind of ambassador. Good thing I found her or I would have left empty handed. The little booth is located near gate 20-21. Got my chocolate cheesecake and some madeleines too. Best damn cheesecake! This is no ordinary cheesecake. It's more of like a soufflé - warm, soft, jiggly, and delicious. My family literally devoured this within minutes. We didn't even bother with utensils or plates, we just inhaled it straight from the box. First thing to note, this tiny little bakery is tucked away in a hidden corner downstairs in a train station. I was warned there would be lines, so I went on a Sunday afternoon. The line was short but they were still baking the cheesecakes. Also, they have a rule that if there are too many customers, each customers can only purchase one cake. As soon as the cakes came out of the oven, everyone on line got super anxious, taking their money out ready to pay, like they were afraid the cakes would disappear. OMG. I am in love. Uncle Tetsu's chocolate cheesecake is just heavenly. Now cheesecakes are hands-down my favourite dessert. So, when I passed by this Uncle Tetsu's in Union Station and noticed the sign for 'Chocolate Cheesecake', I was internally screaming like a fangirl. They only make chocolate cheesecakes on Thursdays, and there are limited quantities. I went after work and the lineup was quite long. I waited for about 15 minutes to get my hands on a chocolate cheesecake. It was definitely worth the wait - the cake was moist and soft like the original. It had an intense chocolate flavour and the right amount of sweetness. My only regret is not bringing a friend to buy another one... I would have this cake again and again. No joke. It's inexpensive and so delicious. Definitely try this out if you're a fan of cheesecake. I'd recommend trying it after it has been popped into the fridge rather than warm out of the oven as the texture of the cake is more firm. Anyway, I'm happy to dedicate my 100th review on Yelp to Uncle Tetsu's chocolate cheesecake. It definitely deserves a spot in my list of all-time favourite foods! read more

It's not in an obvious location, in fact if you didn't know about it you might miss it. I went around 8:30, not much of a line at all, and the cheesecakes were in a stack pre-made waiting the next lucky(?) customer. Clearly from the pictures I then rode the Go train and within an hour sliced right into this "cheesecake". Hopefully you know not to expect regular cheesecake, but rather the Japanese-style, which involves a very fluffy cake with a distinct flavour, much like soufflé pancakes if you've had them. For reference: there's not a single one of these (Uncle Tetsu's) in Japan lol. In fact in all my time in Japan, I never saw "Japanese-style cheesecake" but I digress. It's definitely tasty. And at $12 (used to be $10) I guess it's a pretty good deal since a few people can eat from it, or just one craving person ! Either way, my opinion on the cake itself: it's a 3/5 it almost tastes and feels undercooked but rlly that's just the texture. I personally wouldn't choose this as my preferred dessert and while I never finish my slice, I have no problem saying no to it. My family on the other hand loves this stuff, so to each there own! I just noticed the new Uncle Tetsu location has opened inside York Concourse when I was on my way to GO customer service. It is on your right side if you are facing the customer service counter, and on the opposite end of Booster Juice. According to their website, their store hours are from: Monday - Friday 8am - 9pm Saturday and Sunday 10am - 8pm Luckily, there was no line up so I was able to buy a cheesecake within 2 seconds. They had samples so I tried one (it was cold) with a toothpick. There were two toothpick boxes, so i was looking to see where to dispose my toothpick. Unless I read it wrong, but both boxes said "clean" on it. Cash only -- I usually don't carry cash, but this time I had or else I wouldn't be able to buy one. read more

Was going to a family dinner and the host requested that I bring the UT Cheesecake as I work downtown. I estimated I needed three for the entire dinner family. Reached there just after 4 and there about 10 people ahead of me. They 12 cheesecakes per batch and each batch come out 15 minutes or so. If you miss the batch, you have got to wait. I needed three and the cashier would not sell me three together. Bought one, went back to line and then bought another and then went back to the line. By that time there were 20+ people ahead of me. Next time we are having regular Cheesecake!! The cheese cake is light, fluffy and not too sweet. If I had to guess the closest taste would be a pancake - a puffed pancake made in butter (lots) and added some sugar to it. Different than the Cheesecakes we were used to, but OK I guess. The cheese cake is definitely worth trying but it wasn't for me. The cheesecake is light and fluffy. I didn't like the texture. The flavor wasn't too sweet and you can definitely taste the egg. My family and I were wandering around Union Station, and somehow found this little shop. It's located in a corner by itself in York Concourse. It was mid to late afternoon on a Monday, so the area wasn't busy and we walked right up to get one of their famous 6" cheesecake, which was exactly C$10.00. We waited until after dinner to eat it, but even at room temperature, it was still light, fluffy, and jiggly. Hubby, who prefers New York cheesecake, thought that the flavor was too mild and wasn't a fan, but my kids and I liked it. Although it's got some weight/density, it's actually soft and easy to eat. It wasn't overly sweet, rather a lot milder compared to American cheesecake, but filling enough to stop me from eating the entire thing (well, I think my kids can each eat one though). read more

If you're ever in the downtown core of Toronto you're bound to see someone walk around carrying an Uncle Tetsu bag sooner or later. Perhaps the marketing worked because after hearing about it from coworkers and seeing the trademark bags all the time I figured it was time to pay them a visit. This location was a bit harder than it should've been to find. It's tucked into a corner at the very end (SW) of the York Concourse inside Union Station. Google Maps was helpful in identifying it as a part of the PATH so keep following the signs and you'll get there eventually. I actually got there around lunchtime since other reviews always speak of lineups in the afternoon. It ended up being a good decision since there was no lineup (or even customers) while I was there and there were boxes upon boxes of finished cakes stacked in the corner. I believe this is an "express" location since I only saw the cheesecakes and madeleines, but they informed me they also have the matcha cheesecake at this location now too. Naturally I ordered the regular cheesecake and dug into it right away while it was still somewhat hot. Compared to other western style cheesecakes this Japanese style is a lot lighter, fluffier, and soft. It's not as sweet, but you can definitely taste the cheese and egg. The size was a little smaller than I expected at around 6" nor was it as big as the other pictures I've seen. Still it tasted nice (coming from someone who doesn't like overly sweet foods) and is definitely more preferred than the heavy hitting NY cheesecake in my opinion, but for a price of $10 (tax incl.) I just happened upon it on my way out of town in the station and walked right up... nobody around and no limits.. buy them all if you want... I should've bought two! I think the lower reviews here are rating on simply whether or not they like the cheesecake. I am giving it five stars because as Japanese cheesecakes, or Japanese cakes/bakeries go in general, this is as good as it gets! I was excited to stumble upon it because we lived in Yokohama years ago and this was my favorite treat. I prefer less sweet, lighter desserts overall. If you're a NYC cheesecake fan or a double sugar in your coffee kind of person, you might not like this very much. Here's my tip: eat some right away, while it's warm, if possible but as fresh as possible for certain. Then refrigerate and try again the next day. It's like two different cakes. I've tried Uncle Tetsu's cheesecakes before, but had nothing to compare it to. But now that I've had Japanese cheesecake in Japan, I had to try it again for comparison. For $10, you get a pretty small cheesecake. The cheesecake itself is very light, soft, and airy. However, the flavor is much more eggy. I guess I can see the hype. This location is super convenient because there's so much foot traffic in this area and my Airbnb was next to it! I wish they were able to make more batches at once because one order is a bit much work for me to get back in line and when there is a line, the line is long!! You really have to make time to wait in line but it actually doesn't take too long when they have the batches ready. I had a sample when my friend bought it back to the states when she visited and let me tell you it taste 10x better when it's fresh. The consistently is there but it's so good when it's super fresh. This place was a little hard to find since I was just visiting Toronto, but I found it in the corner of Union station! It's on the main floor, not downstairs, and if you walk around long enough (like I did) then you'll eventually come across it! There's only one Uncle Tetsu in California so I was so excited to see a bunch in Toronto! It's a small pick up area in the corner of the station and you will smell it if you're getting close. I got the cheesecake, cookies, and rusk. The cheesecake was soft, fluffy, and delicious as usual. The cookies were good but I didn't love them, but the rusk was so good!!!! The rusk is smaller, thinner, square pieces of the cheesecake that have been baked longer so they are crispy but still so light and melt-in-your-mouth!! It's also only around 5$ for a bag which looks small but has a good amount in there. We don't have these in California, so I was so amazed at how delicious it was. The quality of the cheesecake is up to par with all of the other locations, so you're treated to a delicious, fluffy cheesecake. Definitely worth a try if you've never had it before! The only downfall to this location is that it can get very busy during peak times. If you're trying to get a cheesecake at 5pm you could be waiting a good 10-15 min. The only locations in Canada are in the GTA - four in Toronto and one in Markham. On this occasion I visited the store in the York Concourse at Union Station on a late afternoon. Remarkably there were only two in line and a fresh stack of cheesecakes were ready. The cheesecake is very dense and sweet. It's not my cup of tea in terms of deserts but I wanted to give it a try. I haven't been to the other locations but this one didn't have the long lines that I have heard the others have which is nice. It is a small location so the trade off is that they only sell the original cheesecake and nothing else but that was okay for me since I was trying it for the first time. In terms of taste and texture, I quite enjoyed it, not too sweet and you could taste the cream cheese a little bit too. It was very subtle which I expected from the Japanese dessert. It was also very fluffy with a texture that was different but not unpleasant. The cheesecake was also still warm and had obviously been freshly baked when I got it. So I figured I'd bring some home for the kiddos who have a good head on their shoulders and decided not to bother waiting. There was no wait at 5pm on a Saturday, so picked up 4. Cheesecakes are $10 each taxes in. Surprised to find out they're selling for $13 each in Vancouver...no idea if it includes tax so essentially I bought 3 and got 1 for free without waiting in Vancouver terms! My daughter thought it was too sweet, my youngest niece liked it, my eldest niece thought it was "meh", son didn't like it, mom thought it wasn't too sweet so she liked it.
