This little place keeps getting better and better. Steven, the owner is very invested in making his customers comfortable and happy. He's so good at remembering faces! Every time my husband and I swing by, we notice that they're always fixing and improving things. Great cold brew but, like so many places of commerce these days, annoyingly political. Virtue signals at every turn. Went here as the start to my best friend's Bachelorette Day in Saugatuck. We enjoyed our food and the great atmosphere on the deck. It was easy for me to have a vegan breakfast as their items are all very customizable and I had oatmeal made with almond milk. YUM! I would give this place 0 stars if I could. This is my first negative review I have ever written, so I'm not some complainer. When I realized they somehow lost my drink order, I went to the front to ask them to make my drink. They acted as if they didn't believe me when I said I had ordered a drink. They could not have been more rude if they tried. I told them I ordered an iced chai. They then gave me a chai with espresso in it, which is not what I asked for. When I went back up there, the barista told me that It did not have espresso in it and argued with me until the other barista said that she did put a shot of espresso in it. They finally remade the drink the correct way and slammed it on the counter. Regardless of the fact that the chai was terrible, it was by far the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I went across the street and got a coffee there and had a great experience. Save yourself the agony of the worst customer service ever and go anywhere else. read more

Unfortunately not a good experience. They were either way understaffed or just plain slow. We waited at the "window" which had a sign on it that said "ring bell for service"..... no bell in sight. They finally came to the window but it took almost 20 minutes to get my husband's smoothie. My iced coffee came in about 5 minutes and I was done before he even had his smoothie. My coffee was tasty and his smoothie was ok but they didn't even fill up his glass. It was about 2/3 full( and it was a small glass to start with).We should've said something but we were very done with waiting and just wanted to get out of there. My visit to Uncommon Grounds was a quick one. We just went in to pick up a cool drink before continuing our stroll around town on a Saturday afternoon. I picked up a lemonade and my friend an iced coffee. Like I said above, my visit to this shop was a quick one. There was a little incident with my friend not getting their drink in a timely manner which is why I only gave the shop three starts instead of four or five. I was eagerly anticipating an early linner (lunch/dinner) at Phil's so I didn't eat any of the tempting-looking baked treats being prepared on-site (in full view of the seating area - love it!). I got a small mug of malted chocolate whip cream goodness while Marie got the iced cafe americano. We were both very happy. The only drawback was bathroom which was dirty with no TP and pee on the seat and floor (ick!) but you know, it only takes one careless person to mess up a bathroom and most places only clean them every few hours. Outstanding coffee shop! I was visiting Saugatuck and was not at all familiar with the area. My buddy Craig pleasantly surprised me, again, one morning with this little coffee shop. We both have their dark roast of the day and it was an outstanding - deep dark full-bodied, aromatic and flavorful cup of heaven. Thanks Craig!! It was just what I needed. We also had their version of "kitchen sink" muffin. It was dense, yet moist and fillied with a bunch of goodie bits. It was simply divine! We just went for the coffee. I had a cold brew and my friends had the Carmel silk latte. My cold brew was clean and crisp with notes of chocolate. So yummy!! No need to add sugar or cream. The Carmel silk latte was so good! It tasted like Carmel clouds. So light and faintly sweet, it was perfect. It is expensive. Not expensive enough to take a star away. Next time I visit, I will stay for the food too. Pro tip- Don't think you have to wait on the que through the front main entrance. There is a window to order from the outside just around the corner to the left. We got our coffee super quick! No wait! I love little coffee shops. It was super busy, so I assumed it was a good local hot spot. The line was out the door but it moves pretty fast. I ordered a French press coffee and a broccoli and cheddar egg bake. You can get a side of apple slices or tomato slices. I got the Apple slices and although I appreciate them trying to stay rustic, I didn't like that they left the core in my apple slices. Their menu isn't very big for food but the coffee menu was impressive. They have a lot of unique coffee for sale too, which I appreciated. Some things to note: the place is a little dirty. I had no idea how long the creamer was out and it looks like they only offered half and half on the table when I prefer skim. There was an empty water jug so multiple people tried to get water but it was empty. Also, it was slightly disorganized. When they put the food out and call your name, no one checks to make sure you're taking the right thing. I'm pretty sure I saw someone take someone else's breakfast. I'd go back again because the coffee was delicious but wish it was a little better put together. read more

I wish I could give this place 6 stars, but apparently that's frowned upon in this establishment. My fiancée and I stop her literally EVERY time we're heading to northern Michigan to visit family. The coffee is bar none, some of the best I have ever had the opportunity to taste, and does it ever pack a punch of both caffeine and flavor if all you are acclimated to is the drab starbucks chain down the street. They also make all their baked goods fresh, which you are able to sneak peaks of from a distance on the other side of the coffee house. The baker, with his magnificent handlebar mustache (the mustache detail is important), artfully creates confections that are worth a trip cross-country. The actual building itself is even dipped in character. I believe I read that the existing building is standing, and has been for over or close to 100 years now. It was re-purposed, and unfortunately, my mind escapes from what, but it just adds to the atmosphere even more. If you're in Saugatuck, or even remotely nearby, do yourself a huge favor and stop by. See the mustache, get a pastry and enjoy some of the best coffee some random guy on yelp has ever ranted about. read more

I dig it in spite of the overpriced coffee and inexperienced kids working the counter. Hey it's a tourist town. Who are you gonna get to work 4 months out of the year? I'm unsophisticated so I can't tell "decent" coffee from convenient store coffee. I'm guessing 95% of all coffee comes from the same growers. But if you take 10 minutes to prepare it charge $4 and call it Grande, it becomes higher quality. The unknown diner digs it! read more
