Good coffees and Yummy desserts... It's all very good. The only sandwich I had there wasn't good so I'll never do that again. It's overpriced, as is much of everything here in this tourist area. Uncommon Coffee Roasters has always treated me excellently. With their reopening after COVID-19 I was excited to go back and get a drink. With the coffee shop/café still needing to work with set rules due to the pandemic I expected the process to be slower than usual. Unfortunately it is significantly worse than that. As I write this it has been over an hour to get a cappuccino. Don't go until they are completely open. read more

OK, this might be the oddest review I've ever written. I haven't even ever been to Uncommon Grounds, yet I can write a five star review. My wife is staying in Saugatuck tonight. I'm at home, 5 hours away, and trying desperately to help her Saugatuck experience turn around from the disaster it has been so far. The straw that broke the camel's back on her bad stay was when she was told her $250/night bed and breakfast won't be serving breakfast tomorrow morning! HELLO! That's why she stays at b&b's to begin with... coffee and breakfast! Anyway.. before I get all in a tizzy again... I called a few places, bakeries and whatnot, and finally in desperation I called Uncommon Grounds and asked the barista for help. She gave my number to the owner, Steven, who called me back within 5 minutes asking how he could be of service... and I pitched to him the most absurd idea -- fully paid of course, I will stop at nothing to make sure my wife's stay goes well here -- anyway Steven is going to ensure that my wife has fresh brewed coffee and breakfast IN HER ROOM tomorrow morning. I don't care what it costs. It will be worth it. Now here's where it gets good. Steven spun to her b&b and paid her a personal visit, brought her a menu to select her breakfast... AND brought her a Saugatuck Visitor's Guide brochure -- which the b&b also hadn't provided -- so that she could figure out where to go for dinner tonight! So this is amazing to me. A guy who doesn't know me from Adam, leaving his store and driving to my wife in a nearby b&b to help her out... a b&b which oddly enough isn't serving the "b"... and Steven will correct that problem tomorrow morning, and I can guarantee you my wife's breakfast will be far far better than the b&b would have provided anyway. Like I said... I don't even care what it costs. Steven is the man. read more

We were actually just looking for someplace, anyplace to get a coffee, but we found much more. This place was so cute inside - very urban hip. They had a menu which was a good mix of standby items and fushion-type fare. We both got the Mexican egg sandwich, which is a patty of egg mixed with black beans, tomatoes, and spices. It was cheap and very tasty. The coffee was great. There was a line out the door, as I'm sure there always is on summer weekends, but the service was still friendly and attentive. read more

Kenya brewing update: when I first opened the bag, I noticed the beans seemed a little light in color. Something I'd expect from a Costa Rica for example, not a hearty, earthy little African bean. It brewed very similar to a Central American. Light, almost too light for me, and future brewings will require at least one extra scoop if not two. It doesn't taste like a Kenya, really. I should have picked up the Ethiopia Yergacheffe instead. Disappointed. Ah well. read more

Been coming here for almost 20 years, and still do on every visit. It's an essential Saugatuck place, as other reviews note. Good coffee and scratch-made pastries, which are getting very hard to find. But this place used to have a wonderful warm, funky, cozy ambiance, and that's been almost completely eradicated for some reason. Gone are the comfy chairs, plants, kitschy old lamps, deep paint colors, art on the walls, even the old retro mugs they used to keep the spoons and stirrers in. The garden in back is still quiet and comfortable but needs a good grooming. The awful hard, uncomfortable chairs (inside and on the front patio), dull pale yellow walls, cheap hanging globe lights and garish bare compact fluorescent bulbs, removal of any partition between the sitting area and the unattractive commercial kitchen (they used to have some hanging glass panels that were perfect), and general carelessness about the appearance of the place all seem designed to discourage people from lingering and to just crank everyone through with ruthless efficiency. If you want to get rid of the locals who used to camp out with laptops for hours on end, kill the wi-fi, not the look and feel that always made this place unique and special. Desperately wish they'd bring that back. read more

Came in for a coffee and pastry and wasn't disappointed. The place was super busy but the line was fairly efficient. Our group got hot coffee, cold brew and chai tea and all were great. The muffins and scone were great too - loved their take on a bran muffin. read more

Overly crowded tourist coffee shop with long waits for basic drinks. Don't bother visiting unless you're willing to spend considerable time looking for parking, more time waiting in line, time re-explaining your order to the staff, all for a lukewarm beverage. read more

The coffee was okay. Not great. I went here twice during my long weekend in Saugatuck. It wasn't too crowded on Sunday morning around 9:30. I got the iced cinnamon latte. It was okay since I asked for less syrup. There wasn't much ice and I would prefer it to be stronger. It was more packed on Monday. I ordered an iced coffee. The ice was completely melted by the time my name was called. I asked for a cup of ice. They just stared at me. I know they were busy, but really no ice for an iced coffee? Next time I'll stick with hot coffee if I'm in the area again. Cute shop. I like the walk up window service for people with their pups, but I do think this place is overrated. Outstanding coffee and vegan pastry options. Yes, the service can be a little disorganized, but that's a small price to pay for the non-chain quality and quirkiness. I had the best vegan carrot cake I've ever had, and some of the staff aren't bad to look at either. read more

Just when you think you've had the best coffee Uncommon Grounds shows up. I had the Sugar Daddy = Latte with Caramel, Hazelnut & Whipped Cream. After my first sip I felt my eyes rolling back into my head. That just sounds so wrong ... but it was oh so right. Hubby had some chilled drink that had ginger in it. VERY TASTY. We were both so glad we stopped by to grab a drink, walk about town, and venture down to the water. Thank you UG for making our trip to Saugatuck a memorable one. We'll be back. read more

Latte just wasn't good. We tried to like it. We sipped on it a few times. My wife was adamant it was the actually bean roast. I'd be willing to give it another try. This cafe stands up for their values (I.e. LGBTQ) and I really admire that. Especially here in West Michigan, where there's a lot of closed mindedness/conservative attitudes. With its location a block off the main drag and a block from the water, and with its huge patio that is nicely shaded by large trees, Uncommon Grounds looks like a fantastic place to hang out. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to do that. However, I was incredibly excited to find out that drinks here can be made her with your choice of cow's milk, soy milk, rice milk, almond milk or half & half. If you substitute any of the last four for the first one, you'll pay extra, but until now I had not seen rice of almond milk as an option at any other coffee shop. Awesome! My iced mocha was thusly expensive (I'm a fan of almond milk) and a bit too chocolate-y for my taste, but it overall it was good and I was very glad to support such a great local business. Their baked goods all looked amazing, and I was sad that I'd already had dessert. read more

The best coffee in town!!! Seriously. UG roasts their own beans, and brews up a great cup of coffee. They also feature light meals, egg scrambles, and tons of yummy sweet stuff all made from scratch. Open at 6am. Friendly staff, and free WiFi. The central bulletin board is the place to find out what is happening around town. Seating is featured indoors, out on the front porch, and also in the lovely garden out back. Occasional featured musicians during the summer, and local art is also shown inside. read more

I have been an avid coffee drinker for over 20 years and, because of work, I have had coffee in almost every major city in the United States. Honestly, I have NEVER had any better coffee than what I get from Uncommon Grounds. My favorite is their special decaf blend but I have had a few other varieties as well and they are ALL GOOD! Nice little local coffee shop. Quite crowded when we were there on a Sunday but still able to find a place to sit. Comfortable and good people watching. Service was a little slow and it took a really long time (and having to wait in line twice) to get an iced tea. Coffee here is pretty good, but I wasn't over the moon about it. I went here on the fourth of July for the first time ever, and was completely impressed. There was a line out the door and onto the sidewalk, but we managed to get in, order, and get out a lot faster than I would have expected. I noticed that along with soy milk, they also offered an almond milk option. How nice! There's also an array of delicious looking breakfast/lunch foods on their menu, along with freshly squeezed juices and of course specialty drinks. Such a cute place, I'd love to go here sometime when it's not completely packed and get a table to enjoy some coffee and read a book. (They have free WiFi, too.) I would make a day trip back to Saugatuck just to go to this place. It's not one you want to pass by! read more

This place was really hyped on here, and we were quite hopeful for a good meal, but were largely let down. There is a good vibe and very tempting menu, as well as some delicious-looking pastries we did not try. But our meals -- the cheddar broccoli egg bake and the day's special, which was a ham sandwich sort of thing -- and a coffee drink and orange/carrot juice were so-so, if not subpar. This is a fantastic little coffee shop. Usually when someone says "charming" or "not like Starbucks" I think of old furniture and hipsters. This place is charming and it has no hipsters. It is clean, cute and wi-fi enabled. They offer a variety of teas, cookies and cakes. I also grabbed a healthy and tasty "stuffed sandwich" containing turkey, cherries and sweet potato. I was only in Saugatuck for 3 days and hadn't planned on spending much time at the shop, but once I got there I decided to stay the afternoon. read more

Very fun coffeeshop very friendly staff moved to Saugatuck back in November was there had coffee and cookies and they were amazing,but sadly I was there Friday, February 20 and the cookie that I got was not anything special in fact it hurt my teeth to bite into it., The oatmeal cookie that I had back in November was most delicious I hope they go back to their old ways of baking.it used to be five stars all the way but now it can only be three stars and that is pushing it. read more
