Has long bar lots table/booth like seating. Friendly staff. And staff waiting near by to clear your plates as soon as possible. Waitress knew about the menu and answered our questions. After hearing friends rave about this restaurant, decided to stop by for lunch earlier in the week to see if this would be a good place for my fiancees birthday dinner w/ family and friends. Got the turkey sandwich and it was amazing. Decided it was a go for dinner. Fast forward to last night. Brought in a party of 15 and could not have been happier with the outcome. Food was outstanding. Where do I begin??? Fried Calamari: Very fresh. Perfectly cooked and very tender. One of better fried calamari dishes I have had. Barbacoa Beef Egg Roll: Beef was tender; egg roll was no greasy at all, very crisp; barbacoa was amazing. Chiptole reduction was perfection Giant Pretzel: the beer cheese sauce was off-the-charts Burgers: broad selection of gourmet burgers. Spicy PB&J and the Jameson BBQ burger were huge hits at the table. French Onion Soup: wish I had ordered this. Great depth of flavor and the broth was very rich. Home run Pork Belly Gnocchi: 2 THICK slabs of grilled pork belly and topped with chimichurri in a spanish style tomato sauce that included roasted cherry tomatos. Gnocchi perfectly cooked. So many layers of flavor it overwhelmed my taste buds. One of the better gnocchi dishes I have ever had. As for the service, it could not have been better. The restaurant was packed and yet our waitress went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met. Could not have been more accomodating. We brought our own birthday cake, but frankly, wish we had just ordered full cake from the restaurant because their cakes looked amazing. Need to try on my mext visit. Nice ambiance and decor. Every other Friday my girls and I try a new place for lunch; today's destination was the Uncommon Grill! Located a couple of minutes from exit 37 of Route 8 , you might drive by if you weren't looking for it. It started off a little rough with a 15 minute wait for a server, but after I asked a passing greeter who our server was, the issue was resolved immediately with an apology and explanation that the sever who was assigned this table was absent and they'd neglected to reassign it. Normally I'd deduct a star for this but our server, Aidan, the food and service after that point more than made up for the oversight! We started with the roasted cauliflower appetizer which I challenge anyone, even veggie haters to not enjoy! Smothered in a creamy, cheesy, garlic sauce, I would go back just or this! The only thing missing was crusty bread and you'd have a delicious vegetarian meal by itself! We tried the smallest order of the Parmesan garlic wings (7 pieces) which were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The seasoning is not saucy and will be the standard by which I measure Parmesan garlic wings from now on! Our entrees were the American Burger which my daughter inhaled, complete with a UG brand on the brioche bun! Mine was the turkey avocado bacon on French bread (enough for 2 people!) and parmesan truffle fries which were fresh cut, steak sized but thin and a little crispy ...to die for! Our last entree was the Common Mac and Cheese which was delicious and anything but common with its 5 cheeses and crispy cheese and light crumb topping. Their beer menu was extensive and I had to giggle at the Evil genius purple monkey dishwater listed! Definitely a sense of humor - like the bathroom "selfie room" sign. With 3 sodas the bill came to a little over $70. Well worth it for the quality and quantity of food. Will definitely be back and soon!! read more

Let me preface this review by saying that had my experience last night NOT happened, Uncommon would have gotten 4-5 stars from me based on my first visit months ago, however; mine and my friends' experience last night was terrible. This was my second visit to Uncommon, my husband's first visit, and our friends 4th or 5th visit. We all ordered drinks and shared 2 apps for the table. Drinks were good, beer selection was good, and we loved the nachos and ricotta crostini for apps! Uncommon has always been known for having trendy and unique seasonal specials and dishes, so we were excited to order our dinner selections. My husband ordered the herbed crusted pork chop, which was cooked to perfection and delicious, he loved it! The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes were tasty sides. Our friend ordered the Jameson Burger, which she also loved and said it was cooked to perfection and was tasty! Now onto the unfortunate part. I ordered the roasted chicken special with a side of garlic spinach. The chicken special was advertised as roasted chicken with a shallot risotto and a poached pear Demi sauce. I was excited to try something that was going to warm me up in this cold New England weather. The presentation was beautiful on a cutting board and the portion size was generous; however, the poached pears weren't sliced thinly.... They were cut into chunks which weren't poached long enough, so they looked like radishes or potatoes and were still very hard. Our other friend decided to order the chipotle pasta. He's a fan of heat (asked for extra jalapeño on the nachos) and had been eyeing this dish in previous visits. When his pasta came out, he took about 2 bites before stopping because it was so spicy. As a culinary graduate myself, it was off putting to me too that the chipotle pasta was advertised as hot, but explained that it was in a chipotle cream sauce, but came out to our table looking like pasta tossed in a red sauce. Typically you'd see more cream in the sauce so it was a lighter pink. I encouraged him to ask the waitress to swap it out for something else since he couldn't eat it because it was too spicy. When he asked the waitress to swap it for something else because it was too spicy, she explained that it's not up to her to take it off the bill, that it's up to the owner or manager. My friend said that was fine and asked if he could order a burger (cheaper menu item mind you) to go, since he couldn't eat the pasta. She put the to go order in and took the pasta away. When the waitress returned, she asked if we all wanted her to ask the owner to remove the pasta from the bill. We said, yes please... as he didn't eat the pasta since it was so spicy. Owner came over and asked if there was something wrong with the food. My friend explained that the pasta was very spicy to which the owner/manager said "chipotle is a pepper and is spicy... and the dish is marked as spicy... so we won't be removing the pasta from the bill"..... after a few awkward stares to each other at our table, the owner/manager further went on to say "we take pride in making sure we mark things on the menu appropriately and this time of year, we get a lot of people who order and then want things taken off the bill". WOW! How insulting! We certainly weren't going to argue with her, but her lack of customer service and defensiveness was appalling. After the conversation, we asked then if we could just take the pasta home then if they weren't going to remove it (figured we would give it to someone). The manager and waitress went in the back but the food had been tossed. The owner/manager came back to our table and told us that it had been tossed and that since it was tossed, they would remove the pasta from the bill, but in the future maybe don't order the pasta if it's too spicy or we could ask for it to be mild next time. A little advice: 1. If you're getting a lot of people who want things taken off the bill, instead of arguing with a guest... maybe take a step back and see if an adjustment to the recipe etc might be needed? 2. The four of us ordered many menu items and beverages and certainly didn't need her to remove a $22 pasta to be able to pay our bill. We actually decided NOT to order dessert after this encounter due to how offended we were. Visitors beware. Make sure you know you're going to have to battle if god forbid your plate isn't what you expected! read more

It had been a year since we had a family dinner with my In-laws. Last minute Yelp search and found this A M A Z I N G place! From greeting us to when we left. Happy faces, great service, menu surpassed our expectations with presentation, flavor and quality! Draft beers to appetizers to meals and desserts. We were all blown away with the consistent quality. The flavor combinations are UnCommon and perfect. The design and cleanliness of the bathrooms and overall space is on point. My husband and I travel for food all the time and this is another HIT! Arrived last Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. and was immediately impressed with the beautiful/trendy interior. I tried the breaded fish sandwich and fries. The fish was perfect and almost had to be fresh. The fries were like a thin sliced steak fry and were one of the better fries I've had. I don't like ketchup, and normally dunk my fries in BBQ sauce (don't judge me). Uncommon Grill's BBQ sauce was VERY good. Service was about average, and the price was about what you'd expect. Tonight was my second meal at Uncommon & the food continues to impress. With a food & restaurant background, I have deep appreciation for "chef-centric" menus. This concept is absolutely filling a gap in the Watertown/Waterbury food scene that has been vacant for a long time. I do have a few minor critiques that prevented 5 stars. 1) Service was a little slow/hectic tonight. I could tell the servers were over extended and am empathic but I know it's something I will be disappointed about if it's like that on my next visit as well. 2) I asked my server if there was beef or pork in the dish I ordered. She checked with the kitchen and said it didn't have any but it did. My guess is there was a miscommunication because of how busy they were. However, server menu knowledge is important for this reason. Dietary restrictions are super common these days. Overall, I really enjoy this place and want to love it. If the service/staffing can keep up with the creativity & drive of the food, then Uncommon Grill can lock in its position as the local favorite. read more

I have to say how disappointed I am with the Uncommon Grill. I had friends that were reluctant to order from the Uncommon Grill due to past experiences, but my wife and I encouraged them to order take out with us. After waiting an hour and 45 minutes for our food, we finally brought the food home to be shocked and disgusted. The bag our food came in was crawling with ants. Our food was cold, the Caesar salad came with no dressing, they gave us (and charged us) for candied turkey bacon. If I'm going to order "candied bacon", why in the world would I want Turkey bacon. Our dinner for 4 came to $150!! No one ate a bite. We called the restaurant, and the managers option was a $50 gift card. I am sad to say, this will be the last time we go to The Uncommon Grill. So I thought I would treat myself since my husband was working late. When I arrived. I was seated in the bar area at a high top (perfect). Waitress brought me over water. Located in an unassuming mini mall, this place was a gem. Ideal location for a drive home from MA to CT, just off of Rt.8. Outdoor dining on their patio was ample with umbrellas for shade. Only waited ten minutes to be seated for lunch. The hibiscus margarita was perfect- not overly sweet and my dining companion's dry gin martini was good and strong. We shared the pretzel appetizer which was well-salted, perfectly sized for sharing, and accompanied by two dipping sauces, a grainy honey mustard and a cheese sauce which were both excellent. Main course was blackened fish tacos for me and the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich and fries for my companion. Both were very good. Our server, Sierra was excellent- prompt, kind, and professional. My mom and I went her for dinner a couple of nights ago. The drinks were amazing! My mom got the cucumber thyme martini and I got an espresso martini. We shared the uncommon cauliflower for an app, it has a truffle Buffalo cream sauce which is to die for my mom got the shrimp tacos and loved them and I got the burrata linguine. The linguine was refreshing with smashed tomatoes and sautéed spinach. Our waitress was very attentive and the outdoor seating was nicely shaded. Stopped in here the other day at the recommendation of a friend. The service was great and the food was amazing!!! Their outdoor seating is very cute and they have a nice gas fireplace outside. Always a great experience here. Went with a group of 7 friends and we had apps, drinks, and dinner. The food is always good and unique. We had the fig and whipped ricotta appetizer and it was AMAZING! I've had a similar dish at another restaurant and this one was even better. The bartender made a custom drink for some friends and it did not disappoint. Their beer menu is always great and changing which is nice if you go there every so often. The salad was a really nice portion that was perfectly shredded with onions, tomatoes, and peppers. I decided on a sandwich and ordered the Reuben and it was truly unbelievable. The tender corn beef was chopped and mixed with slaw, cheese, and dressing. The whole sandwich came together really well. The fries were cut in an uncommon manner but packed a whole lotta potato flavor. My husband raved about his burger too. The whole meal was a success and service was great. Came with friend around 4:30; not crowded so far on Monday night. My friend ordered chili and I ordered zucchini crab cake and side of truffle fries. Brought be crab cake burger with fries and told her the correct order. She was apologetic. No biggie. When all of our correct food came out, my friends chili said there wasn't much seasoning and my crab cake was luke warm (and salty) at most. Fries were hotter (and were good) I didn't want to be one of those so kept my food. Took the rest home but not sure I'll eat it. Place got packed around 6:00. I've been a few times and always leave happy, so I decided to bring my brother, who has severe food allergies and doesn't often get to eat in restaurants. Their service and accomodations even exceeded my expectations. We spoke with a manager when making a reservation earlier in the day, and without hesitation our waitress Kaylene immediately knew all about my brother's needs when we arrived. She was courteous and patient with us and even double checked with the kitchen once the food came out with am extra (allergen friendly) side dish to make sure it was safe. They also have lots of gluten free options on the menu, so if allergies are an issue for you, you don't have to worry about safety or feeling like you're being an imposition. Other than that, menu and drink selections are unique and appeal to lots of different appetites. The service and food quality is always spot on, and the cakes are to die for. I'm in the area often and this is my favorite go-to from now on! read more
