He went out of his way to offer me suggestions and share his knowledge and spent a long time with me even though it was my first visit. Love this place. The coffee is top notch. The owner is incredibly passionate about his craft and it shines through the wonderful blends he sells. You can find the coffee in a few stores in the valley area, but if you get the opportunity to go to the actual shop, I recommend! You will get an in depth explanation of what is available and he can help you pick something to your liking. You won't find drinks here though so know before you go, the coffee bar is not open, but it's still worth the visit! read more

As I had mentioned last time.... this place is awesome. The owner runs the shop and his emphasis is selling roasted beans to grocery stores and outlets. He has about 12 different varieties and chooses one on a rotation to serve to walk in customers. If you want to taste fabulous roasted coffee before you buy, this is the place. read more

This was my favorite stop of my day! I was in town for business driving from Green Bay back to Chicago, when I needed to stop somewhere for a conference call which required use of my laptop. I prefer to support local businesses, and found this hidden gem. I hadn't noticed upon my arrival, but they were closing for the day in 5-10 minutes. Rather than kicking me out or not even taking my order, Dan (owner) was incredibly understanding and sweet and told me to take a seat somewhere and join my conference call while he finished closing shop. So not only did I have some OUTSTANDING coffee, but I also was treated with such hospitality, generosity and kindness. You can expect me to be a repeat customer whenever I am in town! Stumbled upon a gem of a coffee shop while in the area. Prices were extremely reasonable for the quality. Best espresso I've had in the Appleton area. Apparently more of a Italian style blend, very well balance with a bitter and subliminal sweet notes on the finish. Would highly recommend. read more

For the most part, the fresher the coffee, the better. Stuff on store shelves often spends a month or more languishing in warehouses, on trucks, and sitting on store shelves before it makes it to your cupboard. Appleton now has its own coffee roaster, and you can buy coffee that was roasted, at the very most, just a few days ago. I have never met a person who's more passionate about coffee than Dan, the owner/operator at Uncommon Grounds. He can tell you anything backwards and forwards about his blends, roasts, where he gets the beans from, how the coffee was grown, and the history of coffee. He makes the entire experience of enjoying a great cup of coffee just that much better. Stop in, pick up a bag of beans, and Dan will give you a free pour-over coffee. You'll be happy you did, and you'll definitely learn a few things in the process. read more

I asked Dan to grind some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee beans to the ultra fine Turkish grade. Wow! What a treat, one I haven't experienced since being in Haifa, Israel 20 years ago. This is my favorite place to stop in for a cup of coffee. It is a little off the beaten path, but it is totally worth finding. I have tried a couple items off the menu but I keep going back to the cafe con leche. The extremely high quality of the coffee speaks for itself. Bought the raw Ethiopian beans, and roasted at home. 8 minutes in an air popper gives you the first "crack". Add one minute, and you are done. As fresh as you can get. I do about 3 ounces per roast. Ready to try my next variety. Owner very helpful, always nice to buy where you are welcomed, even if it's for one pound of raw beans. read more
