This place is kinda new I think. The owner is trying hard to get things going. When I went on a Saturday afternoon, the place was pretty busy with a few families with kids and everyone was thinking them and how much they enjoyed everything! Just for the great breads. Every time we come very late (2pm) and this the bread we came for we discover an even better bread! Saturday we ended up with the rustic country french. The inside vaguely resembling the inside of a popover but better, the outside crusty and tasty beyond belief. Eaten with good butter and a bit of strawberry jam it was heaven for lunch. My non bread loving husband cut his own second piece! Previously we came for challah, which was excellent and traditional, and also bought on impulse the seed bread called 7 grain. We brought a half of both breads to a soup and bread and butter potluck. What a hit. But when we toasted the 7 Grand bread the next day, we discovered Nirvana. From now on I'm simply going to buy a new bread every time. All great real loaves. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch with my toddler and could not have been more impressed. We had an enormous slice of focaccia pizza that was delicious and extremely well priced. We let any idea of a well balanced meal fly quickly away and tried a salted pretzel and a chocolate chip cookie too. Everything was great... quality, service, environment, price... Bought a pain d'epi to bring home for dinner and that was a serious champ too. Crusty and chewy and amazing. Tried the salted, cheese, and artichoke spinach. While they were all delicious, the artichoke spinach were so unique and fantastic, it was my favorite. We tried a little bit of everything, and it was all great. The apple cake with golden raisins and nuts, was my favorite, it was so moist and perfectly spiced, great with a cup of coffee. We took a bag of the Bialys home, and toasted and buttered them, oh my gosh were they good. Their chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, and pretzels are also great. This bakery is definitely well worth the visit. The staff were very friendly, and also helped with suggestions. I wish we lived closer! read more

The owners do not subscribe to adage that 'the customer is always right' They will throw your order at you with a sneer if you don't buy their specific packaged product. That is- don't ask for 1 or 2 items you must buy the entire pack, something that only an hour ago, they sold separately .....The workers great and they're very pleasant. But i've never seen such poor customer treatment from both owners of an establishment.. Perhaps they should go back to retail class and bake themselves back underground. read more

Where in the world do they ever charge for condiments??? I could have walked into Burger King and gotten one for free. Love this place. The bread and pastries are totally legit. They use quality ingredients, including 100% organic North Carolina-milled flour. The staff is delightful, efficient, and very knowledgeable. Treat yourself to one of Underground Bakery's patented Croinks (savory filled croissants), baguettes, or rustic country loaves. The only downside to Underground Baking are their hours of operation -- right now they're closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and don't open until 10am most days (9am on Saturdays) according to their website. read more

We stopped first next door at the espresso bar, but we're lured into the bakery by the scent of freshly baked bread. The shop is small, but packed with flavor! Fresh bread, pastries and even scrumptious pizza! I would've liked to try one of everything. I had a scone to pair with my espresso and it was divine! My grandson loves the cheddar, bacon, jalapeno croinks and the chocolate croissants (Only on Saturday) The French Country bread is excellent. It is well worth waiting in line and planning my week around their hours (Wed-Sat.) although I wish they were open more. The staff could not be sweeter or more patient and the bakers take great pride in their products. My wife and I mistakenly both ordered food online, and within 20 minutes we realized this. It was 5 hours before pick up so we tried canceling one order since spending $70 for dinner was a bit steep without any seafood or steak. We had no cancellation instructions on our order confirmations, our calls were never answered, and the voice mail was full. I explained this to the young lady as I arrived shortly after 5, which was 45 minutes early for pick up, and her only advise was freeze what the two of you can't eat. Anything & everything are top quality. Pastries are some of the best. The eclairs are to die for. Cinnamon rolls rival the best. Wide selection of artisan breads. My favorite - raisin almond brioche. I'm in love with this bakery. We drove 3 hrs for apples in Hendersonville, but stop here first before they run out & close shop. Bread pudding awesome. Chocolate croissants will put a smile on your face. I just hope I live closer to Hendersonville. Nice folks. They also serve lunch, but have not tried. read more

They offer a wonderful product. I haven't had any baked item from them I haven't loved. However, their hours are inconsistent and they do not seem to be able to or care to met the supply demand. They offer some of the best breads in the area but don't count on them being available, their butter croissants are truly the best, but again don't count on them being there. Almost, one could feel they have a wee bit of bate and switch going. Go in for popular item, that by it's very popularity, one would expect them to be available. Not so. A minimum of a best seller is offered, AND no more. "oh well" may as well buy something that has NOT run out. Of course the item you end up with is excellent.
