This place has a fabulous location. It's got a smoker right out front with what looked like great BBQ. It only has access from the back in and out (bouncer serviced) if you have a wristband (with an open bar tab) and parking out front is rough with an attendant. Aside from all that, they've got beach volleyball open to anyone, they have pool tables, a basketball throwing game, foosball, lots of outdoor seating and another building with a bar with a river in the counter. Ordered one drink from not the friendliest bartender, then headed out. Fun place but quite the meat market. And not a pretty one. But if you're interested in playing some games and just having a fun time off the sand or out of the sun, this is a good spot. read more

Been one of my favorite stops on SPB for many years. I was ready to go five stars, but this lack of a kitchen bums me out. I was told hopefully by the end of this month, but without the kitchen, it's not a compete package. Oh sure there was a guy selling slices of pizza, and a BBQ stand was there too. But I was looking forward to some wings. Also, and I'm sure it's all timing, but it seemed a tad rowdier. No big deal, but the vibe has changed a bit. Still it's a very solid beach bar option in my book. Parking is still a pain, though lucky for me I either walk, ride, or get a lift here. PS. I did learn later that it's possible to order some food from Smiley's Snack Shack (http://www.yelp.com/biz/smileys-snack-shack-st-pete-beach) down the road, but that seems like a pain to me. read more

The worst bat and dirty. Ex bartender sat on bar where they served food. A woman asked her to get bad and the girl started to yell at her. I was there, the woman asked nicely. Several barracks, the girls friend , and the manager all said,"It's ok. She used to work here." And left her sitting on top of the bar. The owner dragged her off the and carried her away. The owner gave the woman an excuse that no COVID violations were broken bc of the girl sitting on the boy and she had some emotional issues from a recent break up. So ladies... next time you have a boyfriend problem go to The Undertow and sit in the bar with your bathing bottom that you been sweating in for 8 plus hours with dirty feet and dirty sandy shoes. I would give less then a star if I could. The bartenders where great! When we where leaving the owner almost ran us over trying to get into his very exclusive parking lot. We were standing on the corner waiting for our Uber to pick us up. He made a right turn into the parking lot jumping the curb and sidewalk, and pinned me against the light pole. I did all I could not to get my feet run over by him, Including slapping the side of his truck. He jumped out and accosted my friend and I and waved down a sheriff deputy. Then put a trespassing order against us because he almost hit me while I was standing in the trees on the side walk. We went her on a sunny, beautiful Sunday afternoon in February. We arrived about 2pm. No parking anywhere. We found a spot and headed in. There was a good crowd. But we got stopped immediately because we had a beach bag. We had cover ups and towels in the bag. We were told we can keep it. But it was really frowned upon. The fence and the signs at the tip of the bar are hideous. Really takes away from what we are there to do. Uptight bartenders not friendly at all. No food , but yeah there are signs everywhere to order food and they will bring it. Bathrooms kinda dirty. The beach is amazing. The view is spectacular. I heard this place used to be much better. Came here lastnight, met the most friendly and attentive bartender I know there named Kayla. My drink was perfectly strong and delicious. I had strawberry pina colada? I'm pretty sure she mixed it up for me, loved it! They have a cute small bar on the beach and a small parking lot. Had no issue parking though, and didn't have to pay for it. Drinks are reasonably priced, and they have bars on the roof where people can be upside taking "upside shots"?! They have breakfast, lunch/dinner! Super cute place. Would go back! read more

Me and my friends love the undertow as it sits right on the beach and you're able to get your drinks and get back to the water very quickly. Yay! I am a bit disappointed that they changed the drink that I daydreamed about at this bar - the rum runner. Ugh. It was traditionally brown and slushy and this time I got it and it was a bright red (?) and it didn't taste good at all. The server was a bit curt and rude when I asked her about the change and tried to insist to me that is the way it's always been. Noooo! Also - they do not serve food there. They give you a menu of another local eatery to call and have them deliver and they also have a man there selling pizza he keeps warm in a little oven. This little spot would be so much more awesome if they had a kitchen and served some food. Ah well. When you've got the beach just steps away, you can do whatever you wish, I suppose. read more

Wow...this is not the Undertow I remember. The kitchen is no longer open so just drinks and a few pre-made snack packs are available. Drinks are ok, but hopefully the server was just having a bad day because otherwise she just had a bad attitude and treated us like poop. Summer 2016 edit: the place has really gone downhill. The management and several bartenders are not friendly like years past, and I've been coming here for over ten years. They've overreacted to non-customers coming through and/or using the bathrooms, so there is ridiculous signage everywhere about you're subject to search if you're on the property, you can't be shirtless (men) after dark, hats must be worn a particular way, so on and so forth. To top it off, they've installed the dumbest thing I've ever seen at a beach bar; a black chainlink fence to keep those darn beach goers out. Except, it keeps customers who went out from getting back in too, or new customers from coming in, and it makes the view horrible. Somehow, every other bar on the beach has managed to not need an ugly prison fence, but I guess Undertow is just unique, and for that reason, I'd recommend going elsewhere. I'm not sure why they'd care to begin with; their bathrooms haven't been cleaned in several years, so it's not like they could get dirtier from a few non-customers using them. Prior review: Undertow is a no-frills beach bar towards the south end of St Pete Beach's hotel row. It is the perfect place to start or end a pub crawl between it and PCI Bar (a 1.5 mile haul of drinking fun). An earlier review of mine complained about the turnover amongst staff, but they seem to have gotten that under control. The ones that have been around a bit that are super nice are Kat (only occasionally now as she has a job elsewhere), Amanda, Nikki, "Cheeks" and Paul (great new addition). In any case, drinks are typically cheap and strong. They used to have great wings but killed the food options. Fortunately, Smiley's Snack Shack, three doors down and same owner, will deliver for no charge to the restaurant, as will Hungry Howies pizza, so you have two great options for hanging out at Undertow and still getting food. They recently (summer 2015) added a bbq type stand, but I haven't tried it yet. Sundays they will have all the games on in the main bar if you're a fantasy football junkie. They have a large projection screen outside too for night games. They have Touch Tunes in the smaller bar and Golden Tee, $1 pool, $1 foosball and a few video games in the main bar. I have never seen live music here, so if that's your thing, probably better to look at Toasted Monkey or Jimmy B's. Parking is not the location's strong suit, there are maybe 20 spots, so Friday to Sunday afternoon there is typically no parking. There's a pay lot across the street (normally $10, $20 on holidays/spring break) and the St Pete Beach public lot is not too far of a walk. You can NOT bring coolers onto the property; they'll kick you out. read more

The location is fantastic and any time I can get a bucket of beers - I'm pretty grateful. But this place is bro and bimbo city. Definitely a certain type of scene for a certain type of people. Nothing about this place is chill - from the obnoxious fence blocking off the beach - to the college kids still trying to figure out how their liver works. I will say, the view of the sunset at night is gorgeous if you can block out the noise going on behind you and actually focus on it. Love this bar. It's always a good time when visiting Saint Pete Beach. The drinks are always delicious and there's a huge variety. The guy who does barbecue outside makes incredible food! My fiancé and I have joked about visiting undertow since last year when our trip to st Pete was cancelled. Now we are here and decided to venture to undertow beach bar after talking about it for months. We saw the reviews and knew it would be a chance we were taking. We went (along with my parents) around 7/7:30 so it wasn't busy. But to our surprise the location was absolutely stunning. The beach area at undertow was 10 times better than our sand at tradewinds, with beautiful palm trees and many places to sit on the beach. We played corn hole and beer pong that was offered there and had a couple drinks. Before we knew it it was 9:30/10. The drinks were good, the bartenders were friendly and accommodating. I did not feel as if they treated be differently than the locals that were sitting at the bar. My (adult) family will not hesitate to go back. If you're okay with bartenders in barely-anything bikinis than undertow is a good stop! read more

By far the WORST service we have ever received at a bar. We asked one bartender to pour us a few shots and she rudely looked up with a scowl and said "um, I am obviously NOT working right now. I'm looking for something." I was shocked! She then proceeded to grab a few drinks for her multiple guy friends at the bar and stand around to drink and socialize. Danielle was our main bartender and was pleasant throughout the majority of the experience but the other bartender is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered and will likely cause this place to receive more reviews like this. Local and had been coming here for twenty years. Doubt we will ever be back. The place looks like a prison now and could not be less welcoming. I walked in with my child today and her diaper bag. The gate attendant yelled at me to get out and that we couldn't be there because he didn't want to be "f****** bitched at" for letting us be there with a diaper bag. Profanity in front of a baby and totally unprovoked aggression. I called and tried to speak with a manager and couldn't get one. Undertow beach bar is One of the best beach bars on st Pete beach ! Lovely friendly staff, seasonal drink specials, and beautiful sunsets can be enjoyed here. Unfortunately they don't serve food here but they do have catered pizza. I wish they had live music here but you can go to jimmy Bs for that. Some people have complained about the newly erected fence separating the bar from the beach but its really doesn't bother me. Some people have complained about the new list of rules but those don't seem like a big deal either: no outside alcohol, no coolers, no thermoses, no alcohol on beach, no racist music, no sideways hats. read more

Amazing chill place to watch the sunset!! Our new favorite place we will definitely come here often

This place used to be great. I often rode my motorcycle there because parking was limited. They've now fixed that problem by limiting parking to their special "parking club." When I went a couple weeks ago I was stopped at the entrance to the parking lot by a barrier arm and a sign informing me that parking was only for members of their special "parking club" and the recommendation that everyone else should Uber or walk. Hilarious. And to make the punchline even funnier, the parking lot on the other side of the barrier was pretty much empty. Uber or walk huh? Thanks, but no thanks. I have some great memories of The Undertow, but I left them at their gate that day and drove to Jimmy B's. And I had an AWESOME time! This place has a lot of potential given its location? But the customer base is a little rough / hard drinking / loud / biker set. The bartenders wear bikinis and the customers hit on them... it's a bit of a throwback to the 80s. We had one drink and left. I have a feeling things get louder and more offensive as the night goes on. If you're over 25 years old or have an IQ over 90 or have a kid or a respectable woman with you... I'd go elsewhere.
