    Walking into the Undertow

Great little bar, cheap drinks and live music! This is a 3am bar, they have live music from 10pm-2am, and serve food till 2am! Drinks are good and very reasonable, and there are two pool tables! Only reason I gave 4 stars is this is a smoking bar....not a big deal, just not a plus for me...

Unfortunately, I'm leaving this one star review, as much as I don't want to. We sat at a table and after waiting 15 minutes we weren't greeted or our order taken even though the bartender saw us walking through the door. We came for the food and the drinks after reading others' reviews but we left hungry and thirsty. Very disappointing.

When looking for the best deal in all, you can eat Royal Reds. Be sure to check out The Undertow to satisfy your cravings. Occurring Saturday and Sunday, their shrimp buffet offers roasted corn potato's sausage & plenty of that delicious shrimp all for $10. Throughout the week be sure to check out events & specials offering live bands Karaoke & Texas Hold'em or rack'em up for a game of pool. Come for the food, stay for the fun here at The Undertow.   This is a favorite spot when it comes to enjoying a few cold ones with family and friends or to enjoy a few events & a variety of entertainment offered here. As mentioned in my short intro, I enjoy their all you can eat special on the weekends. Finding their shrimp hit or miss at times while snowbird season is happening the chef attempts keeping pace with crowd & with the volume they forget to restock on occasion. I suggest going early to get it fresh & moist. Their servers and bartender are some of the greatest people you'll ever meet, excellent attitudes, friendly & laid back.    As quick I was going through copious amounts of shrimp sausage corn & gallons of butter & cocktail sauce they made sure my table is spacious for additional carnage & made sure I didn't spend 1 moment thirsty keeping my drinks filled. When it comes to their pool tables, there's not much to say as their tables felted perfectly no uneven-ness with the table cue's seem perfect, but I enjoy a good pool game after a hardy meal. This has been an excellent visit & so excited to come back again another weekend for their Poker (My favorite hobby) Karaoke live music & indulge again in eating all you can eat shrimp  Be sure to like them on FB & tell a friend. Best reuben around! Bartender/server Mack is phenomenal! As is bartender Jeramy! Great place to be yourself. Have a brew, watch some football, play pool, smoke your vape or cigar. Vape shop on site. I love coming here. Great laid-back local atmosphere.

Amazing service, great wings, good burger, no cheese on the loaded fries which was super disappointing.

This place is definitely a must try. They had a all you can eat crawfish boil. The manager stated that they will start having these on a weekly basis. 20$ all you can eat crawfish with all the fixins. Best crawfish I ever had state to state by far. If you happen to be in gulf shore area must stop by there.. smoker friendly and live music... Win!!!

Under Tow Grill. Local hole-in-wall. Great prices and food. Royal Reds All you can eat, Sat and Sunday. $15.99. Giant outdoor area.

A great find. Local bar and grill with reasonable prices. Fresh dip was big enough for 2. Friendly staff and all you can eat Royal Reds Sat and Sun for $15.99.

My clothes smelled like smoke when leaving. Not the fanciest bar. Extremely cheap beer was a plus. $2.50 for a Yuengling pint.

My advice, find a seat, have someone order at the order window, then head to the bar to order drinks. The wait to order food took about a half hour. It was very quick to get our drinks. We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. We would return, but try to come on an off-time that wasn't so busy.

It can be hit or miss depending on what you order however, we have been enough to know and share with others what to order and what to stay away from. The following is from our most recent visit. We began the meal with a Cosmo and a Fairhope Brewery Blue Steel Sour. Both were very good. The Blue Steel sour has notes of blueberry. For an appetizer we ordered the cheese dip. It consist of three cheeses, including Gruyere, which is one of our favorites. The cheese also comes with feta cheese and a tomato relish over the top, which we find very good. It makes the cheese dip a little different than others. The tomatoes are very soft and the relish is on the sweeter side. My Wife got the chicken roulade. It was okay. The chicken was good however, it is wrapped in bacon and flash fried. In our opinion the flash fry isn't needed and it adds the risk of the bacon being overdone or burnt, which is what happened. The Parmesan risotto was a little gummy but had good flavor. The cream sauce that accompanied the dish was probably the best part. I got the fish sandwich and upgraded from sheepshead to grouper. You can get it fried, blackened or grilled. I chose grilled and it was really good. It was not the first time I have gotten the fish sandwich. The bun is a sourdough/Hawaiian roll hybrid. I got an order of fries to go with the fish sandwich. Their fries are really really. They're slightly battered and crunchy. Very good with ketchup or tartar sauce or both! If you visit I would suggest sticking to the fish sandwich, burger or fish dish (grilled/blackened) that comes with a cream based sauce. Their drinks and beer is selection really good as well. Most of the time on weekends they have live music if that's your kind of thing.

The first thing that impressed me was the ample parking. The restaurant also has a small private beach area for customers, along with a great bar area overlooking the water. The property is handicap accessible with both ramps and stairs, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Assistant Manager Taylor. He made me feel extremely welcome and even recommended a lunch item from the menu. I took his advice and ordered the Pork Ribeye Sandwich, and it was absolutely amazing. On the side, I had a salad with their homemade ranch dressing. Without a doubt, this is some of the best ranch dressing I have ever had. The bartender, Cody, was outstanding as well. I tried the Lime Margarita, Blackberry Mojito, and the Strawberry Basil drink. Every one of them was fantastic. You can tell this is a place that people genuinely enjoy working at. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the customers all seemed happy to be there. It's rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right, but Avenue Pub comes very close. If you're anywhere near Orange Beach, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely be back.
