OMG...the spicy shrimp tacos were AMAZING! The shrimp was cooked perfect (not rubbery) and the avocado was at ripened the perfect amount. Being from out of town and wanting to try something local, I was thrilled with the cuisine. Bar service was extremely slow - waitress indicated new bartender and 2 large parties so we'll give the benefit of the doubt there. As a result, only enjoyed one beverage with my meal but no biggie. Every time I go to Union Grill I am impressed by the things that I order. One of my favorites is to get the Myzithra pasta with a side of Alfredo sauce. I also love the Santa Fe sandwich. My husband loves the gumbo and my good friend always gets the Carbonara. My favorite desserts are the mud pie and the bread pudding. They are to die for! I also like it because I'm on the birthday list and so I get a free entrée every year. I highly recommend checking out this cute restaurant inside Union Station. read more

Go at lunch and this place is bustling. Excellent service, prompt seating and quick turnover. The french onion soup is great and served daily so you never have to guess. The food was great! Hubby had the Pita Chicken Taco's and loved it! It had a nice/slight amount of heat and great flavor. The salsa on the side was mediocre, but the main dish was well-worth it! We stopped in at lunch time, and while the place wasn't really crowded, they did put everyone in the same area..... which made elbow room a commodity. I had the Chicken and Spinach Fettuccine topped with large bacon crumbles and Parmesan cheese. It was really good, although a BIG portion considering it came with soup or salad. I chose to go with the French Onion Soup, and was NOT disappointed! Finished our meal with Tiramisu, that was FABULOUS!! Just moved to the area, decided to check this out. Not too many recent reviews, something that worried me. Well, didn't have to worry! The place is very quaint, located in an old train station, with a museum attached. The food was rather tasty! We had potstickers (I know, right?) and a burger. The potstickers were great. The burger was pretty good too..... We also ordered the bread pudding.... pretty yummy as well. I would not rate this spectacular, but really nice fare on a weeknight..... I ordered the parm chicken Alfredo and it was awful.. It was cold, the sauce was so watery and none of it had any flavor at all... Service was wonderful but we should have clued in when we had to wait to be seated 25 minutes and they were less than 1/3 full on a Saturday night. In addition the prices were way too high. Good food at the union grill. Cool ambiance being an old railroad station hub. On more than a few visits, I can't remember anything being a less then favorable. Service might be lacking when they get busy, but that's expected. Busy service means people like it there, obviosly though. read more

Ben was our server, very aware of our presence and excellent service. The food- excellent flavors . house made creamy Italian dressing was a perfect consistency of spices and vinegar. French onion soup served hot, flavors were rich and filling. Cheese burger, and fries. Tasty and juicy. Strip steak, cooked medium, perfect, and bistro onions were a delectable addition. Meat loaf dinner, generous portions, delicious squash with a nice addition of fresh Parmesan cheese. Creamy mashed potatoes. Everyone satisfied and will be a new favorite place. read more

Had an excellent experience Saturday night at the Union Grill. Very comfortable location, professional front of house workers, and the food was excellent. We had the coconut pumpkin curry soup. Yes is was a good as it sounds. The Fish and Chips entrees were also incredible. We will return her again soon! read more

We decided on a whim to try this restaurant out (with 7 adults and 6 kids). We were so pleasantly surprised! The food was fresh and delicious! I loved the Santa Fe sandwich. To feed everyone (including dessert) our bill was only $106. Not bad at all for gourmet food! The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our group. My 7 year old asked for fry sauce a few times even though we told him they didn't have any, and the waitress offered a side of mayonnaise. She came out with multiple sides for everyone, already mixed for us. That was great and unexpected. Highly recommend! read more

We've been going to the Union Grill for years. I have no idea what's happened as of late. The food couldn't have been more disappointing. They've replaced their fries, which I loved, with something akin to overcooked Burger King fries. Even the waiter and cook pointed out their disappointment with the change. The bun on my Cajun Turkey was hard and dry. It's completely different than what they've used for years. Another example of them downgrading the quality of the product that was quite good. The shrimp salad left my daughter sick for the balance of the night. It's too bad. After 20 years of supporting this local business we won't be going back anytime soon. I work here as a host. The info given here is a bit wrong- we serve a full bar, not just beer and wine. And it is definitely not a "new" restaurant. We have regulars who have been coming for twenty years. Women always get our chicken cucumber pasta salad and men always get fish and chips. Both are good, but I suggest branching out and not being boring and typical. The Thai ginger chicken is stellar as well as the mozzarella sandwich. Ask your server about the "Crockett" sandwich. It's kind of a secret. Not on the menu, but delicious. Always ask for focaccia bread. It's free upon request. Try our mango iced tea or strawberry lemonade to drink. Bread pudding or chocolate mousse cake for dessert. There are my tips. :) Speaking of tips- if you get your food to-go, tip the host! She has to put the order together for you! ;) read more

A bit heavy on the sauces for my taste. The fish is edible (and safe to eat) but they do a better job on typical grill menu items. Very pleased with my meal here. They have lots of options and everything is great! I usually go for the pasta dishes. The staff was very attentive and make sure we had plenty of water drinks etc. The historic building was also very cool, make sure you take a walk around and see the trains outside as well. I don't like being a hater, but I can't avoid it sometimes. The food here is really good and usually pretty consistent unlike its sister restaurant, Roosters, which I won't review, because I worked there for 6 years. Anyhow, the service here is really horrendous. Unless you are some hoity-toity regular, you'll probably get ignored, especially if you have kids. The hostess barely acknowledge us and ignored our request for a high chair. When we asked our server, she rolled her eyes and said, "Oh, I'm sure she's going to get it." Alas, she didn't get it and the server finally brought one. After waiting 20 minutes for our check, my toddler had had it and was running amuck. Do you think our server noticed? No, she sat and gossiped with the hostess. I have a feeling this poor service is because the staff is overworked and the management is poorly trained. If someone complains about the service, you don't just say, "Oh, I really feel, like, so bad. Here's a gift certificate. Come again!" NO! I am not going to come again and maybe you should try and inquire why. read more

I've been a big fan of Union Grill for the last few years but the experience has consistently gone downhill (i.e. they used to bring bread while waiting for your food, they did away with this when they moved locations.) My most recent experience included laughably bad service (waiter walked past us a dozen times empty handed while waiting for appetizers), food that was not consistent with their usual standard, and the worst possible seating in the whole restaurant (in direct alignment with the drafty front door, crowded into an aisle between two rows of booths.) The night was topped off with a stranger slipping and taking out our table while on the way to her table. While the slipping wasn't necessary the fault of the restaurant, the fact that they placed a row of tables in the middle of an aisle to cram just a few more people in (making the aisle just a bit too narrow), contributed to a miserable experience. Basically if you're not a large group, forget getting any decent service since you're not deemed "a large enough tip." read more

The baked brie and fruit plate was amazing, and if I were writing this review based solely on that appetizer, I'd be giving it 5 stars. Unfortunately the rest of my food was not so wonderful. I ordered the Filet medallions, which came out well done instead of medium. Had it been medium-well, I would have eaten it without sending it back, but well-done steak might as well be tasteless to me. I sent it back and they took my perfectly cooked mashed potatoes and green beans away with the meat. What they brought back to me was almost medium rare (bordering on rare) steak and green beans that were also under cooked. I didn't have them correct it the second time, just boxed it to go and my husband later microwaved and thoroughly enjoyed it. He said it was delicious. I just wish they knew what medium looks like. I would probably come back for that appetizer, but I'm not sure that I'd order steak here again! read more

Pasta was on our mind and was very disappointed. It was our first time here for my bday. We had the lemon shrimp pasta, which was all lemon and nothing else. Also the chicken Alfredo dish. My husband and I have long counted the Union Grill as one of the better restaurants in Ogden. Last Saturday, I realized that in our zeal to find new local eateries, though, we hadn't been there in a while. I regret to say that I'm sorry we decided to go back. It would have been better to let the memory stay intact. It was one long experience in 'meh'. To begin with, the hostesses started bored and moved to hostile. A line of people waited while three of them (perhaps one was a waitress) chose to spend that time tearing down a colleague, including using foul language to refer to her. While my language isn't pristine, it struck me as incredibly unprofessional to speak in that manner in front of customers. When we were finally being seated, my husband (who has worked in the restaurant business) advised the seating hostess that they really should at least acknowledge the large party that was had been waiting for a while: she responded with a shrug and, "That's not my job." It didn't surprise us at all to see that large party shake their heads and walk out the door about three minutes later. The restaurant was full, but not overly so. Even so, tables sat uncleared while servers chatted in the corner. Service was slow and unenthusiastic, and I had to ask about the specials twice before the server paid attention to me. The food, which was once quite good and cutting edge was the most 'meh' thing of all. I ordered a pasta dish; the angel hair pasta was overcooked (and should really have been a linguini or sturdier pasta, with the heavy vegetable toppings), and the pesto sauce had either been sitting for a long time or was not emulsified properly in the first place, as it was separated (solids and oil). The french onion soup, which used to be wonderful, was also just okay. It could have been improved if the onions had been caramelized (which they used to do), but as it was it just tasted of onions and Knorr beef base. Not bad, but not good either. The salad was generic bagged Romaine *shrug* The weirdest thing was my husband's Thai ginger chicken: not only was there no taste of ginger or garlic at all, but the peanut sauce tasted most strongly of flour. The only thing I can think of is that they tried to extend or thicken it with flour instead of the pricier peanut butter. Hint: it didn't work, guys. It was just strange. Neither dish was disgusting--just boring. The best thing we had all evening were the beers. Next time, we'll skip the middle man and go directly to Roosters (and hope they haven't gone downhill, too). read more

I have to say that we *really* wanted to like this place. We wanted it to have really delicious food because we really liked the atmosphere. But all I can say is that the food was just mediocre. The beer battered onion rings were good but the green apple pumpkin soup was very bland. The lemon butter chicken was nothing spectacular . . . the chicken itself was good but the "homemade lemon butter" left a lot to be desired. The broccoli was cooked well but the lemon rice was pretty flavorless. The burger with bacon was okay as far as burgers go . . . a good bun but just an average burger. The steak fries were good-- crsipy & salty. Cindy & Mike were good servers/bartenders but even their good service couldn't make up for the sub-par food. We'd go again if we were invited by friends or perhaps for a work function but this isn't a place we'd seek out on our own "just because." & that really sucks because we really enjoyed the ambiance & atmosphere. read more

The three stars are for the food. Everything else was painfully slow. We were told 15 minutes to be seated and that was a total lie to keep us there. 30+ minutes later we were seated. It was obvious that they don't have enough wait staff. A drink refill was non existent. Food took 30-40 minutes which is way too long for a place like this. No one seemed to care that worked there. They need a manager who is present and interested in keeping customers. read more

This is the second time I've been to the new location. Both times the food was good but the service was terrible. First time there we were served beer glasses the were hot out of the dishwasher, and then my salad was also served on a hot plate :( they need to invest in more dishes apparently. Service was slow, but I believe it was the server, not the kitchen as my food was cold by the time it arrived. Today during my visit I asked specifically for just chicken, veggies and curry sauce (no rice or garnish) for the Thai chicken bowl and apparently our server couldn't figure that all I wanted, nothing more, nothing less, was chicken, curry sauce and veggies so I ended up picking things off and out of it. We ran empty on drinks half way through and also had to flag another server to ask for our check after we had waited a good 10 minutes after we were finished with our lunch.
