Our party of four is in Cape May a couple of times a year and every time we go, we try a new restaurant. I was not impressed with my first time eating at Union Park. I ordered the chef's special, a seared ahi tuna atop a grain blend. The tuna was cooked well but everything else was too much. It tasted like the chef put too many spices and flavors on the dish, like he/she couldn't decide. The others in my party liked their entrees but agreed that the flavoring was too over whelming you couldn't enjoy the entire dish. It didn't help we were seated in a smaller room with a child who screamed almost the entire time we were there and a large party that really took advantage of the BYOB policy..... The overall service was good. If we go again, we will order other entrees and probably go earlier. read more

Okay, this place is expensive. My husband and I spent over $100 on dinner, including dessert and wine. However, we expected to pay a lot going in, and weren't disappointed with the quality of the food. It has wine, but is also a BYOB, which is much more cost efficient. We had a great experience here. We went on a Saturday night with reservations, but showed up early and were seated right away. The waitress was very nice and helpful. Food: Caesar Salad - very good, nothing super special about it, but tasty Edamame - delicious. a very good sized portion Chicken - delicious! Scallops - also delicious! Creme brûlée - very good, but nothing outstanding. as good as anywhere else Ice cream sandwich - this is awesome!! get this if you get dessert! it was soooo good! As for dress code, the clientele was a lot of older people (my husband and I are 30 and were the youngest there for sure!) so they are a lot more dressed up than younger crowds. I had my wedding here on June 14 2014 and it was simply amazing. Bob, the hotel manager was so easy to work with and helped us with all of our questions. We had a small party and the staff was more than courteous to all of our guests. The appetizers were amazing, especially the crab cake. We had asparagus wrapped in bacon with a blue cheese dressing and that was wonderful as well. For dinner, we had the short rib which just pulled apart And melted in your mouth, the chicken breast, and the salmon. All of our guests commented on how everything was wonderful. We had a great meal at Union Park tonight! My better half had the caesar salad which she enjoyed and I had the foie gras which was truly excellent (grilled and flavorful served on a corn bread / maple bread base. I had the ribeye special which was cooked to perfection. I opted to not have the blue cheese topping as I think it overwhelms the flavors in the meat. The steak was seasoned well, cooked perfectly and was accompanied by delicious vegetables (peppers, onions, mushrooms and potatoes). My wife had the scallops on polenta which she loved. Desserts did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is very comfortable with tables spread out to ensure private, elegant dining despite the large open room. The server was excellent and very professional. All in all well worth the money. I cannot wait to eat there again. read more

Great food, great service, great ambience, great location. My wife, our two boys (5- and 7-years old) and I all had a fantastic dinner at Union Park. We went on a Thursday night in late August and they were able to seat us at 7 despite us not having a reservation. Surprising since we had learned of it in NJ Monthly and Yelp as one of the top Cape May restaurants. Between the 4 of us we ordered the Crab Cakes, Lobster and Kobe Burger (plus salads) and it was all outstanding. My boys had never had lobster and were begging us to order it so we indulged them. The lobster was very good, but the Kobe burger was out of this world, and the crab cakes were also great. Besides the food, the service was fantastic and very accommodating of a family with kids, and despite a very nice atmosphere that made it feel like a fancier restaurant the server was super friendly and never gave any of the "why do you have kids here" attitude you get at many nice restaurants. My husband and I decided to try Union Park tonight after an awful dining experience at another restaurant. At first we were just going to stay for appetizers but the food was so delicious and the atmosphere so lovely and elegant, we stayed for entrees and dessert. We were slightly under dressed but that did not seem to matter we received friendly and prompt service. My entree was the crab cake which was phenomenal. My husband had the Kobe burger and it was cooked to perfection we finish off the evening by sharing delicious profiterole. read more

This was the 2nd time dining at the Union Park and we were very happy to return. The atmosphere is very vintage inside as you would expect in Victorian Cape May. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs and the food was exceptional. Crab cake and Buratta appetizers were very good. My wife and I each got the short ribs and they were spectacular. The meat just melted in your mouth...very tasty. BYOB was also a welcomed touch. We intend on visiting the Union Park Restaurant each time we come to Cape May. read more

We ate dinner here around a month ago. The food was good, but nothing fantastic. Not really worth the money. Great waitress, very attentive. Noisy. Maybe it's us, but we prefer quieter dinners when we're paying that kind of money. Hope that you don't run into the owner, he's exceptionally obnoxious. Glad I don't work there! We had not been here for a couple of years but very glad we visited. Food outstanding, atmosphere outstanding, service outstanding. It is a little pricey but BYOB helps keep costs down. I had a rib eye special with frites covered with truffle oil and dusted with cheese. The steak was cooked perfectly and was truly outstanding. My lovely wife had lobster tails which she said were great. We shared dates and goat cheese as an appetizer which was unique and very good. We shared some ice cream as a dessert that was just right. Let me start by saying I have dined in this establishment at least a half dozen times over the past 5 years and always had a pleasant experience. This time, there were several things that occurred which have left me a little dissatisfied in hindsight and hope this finds the appropriate parties to see that something like this does not happen to another person. It began with the seating of our party... Four adults and one child. As we are seated we look around the room and realize we have been seated in what can only be described as "the kids room" - indicative of how the only tables seated all have children set into the back corner which I can only imagine is to "not disturb" other diners. Ok, no big deal... So, we order our meal. The server, who was very friendly - offers suggestions, and we begin our dinner. Appetizers arrive... Cape May Salt oysters and Burrata Bruschetta... Excellent. Things are going well. Until that is, our additional dinner guest arrives. A bug walks across the table in front of us. Promptly, I cover it so no one else is disgusted by this at the table, and discreetly ask for a manager, while assuring the assistant service person that everything is fine with the food, something just had to be told to a supervisor. So, a chef/I can only assume manager arrives and asks what the problem is. So I lift the bottle of wine I covered the bug with and as if to say, "so what", he looks wide eyed at us, picks the bug up with his bare hand, and says "it's a nightbug...", stares at us a moment longer and walks away?! We don't wish to destroy an evening out as it is rare we have an opportunity to get out together, so we stay, let the incident pass, and look to finish our night out possibly on a positive note. Entrees arrive, we eat them, they are ok. We proceed to order dessert... Chocolate cake is excellent (btw), and ask for our check. Now let me also add, I have been a server in fine dining for over 15 years, and hate when guests complain or look to get something for nothing, but let me just say, IF any place I have ever worked has a guest show a supervisor that there is a bug on their table, that there is NO QUESTION something would be done to make right what would have otherwise been a lovely evening... But, to no avail. NOTHING was done... Not an apology from anyone, other than the server who was the farthest thing from part of the problem. She was sweet, knowledgable, and apologetic. So to clarify... 4 guests come to dine, enjoy ourselves, spend $425 BEFORE TIP ($535 total), and we don't even receive any sincere apology let alone any compensation for this?? This will obviously be my last dinner at Union Park. read more

I hosted a small rehearsal dinner at Union Park recently. Superb food, very professional and attentive service and a great atmosphere. The chef and the general manager are terrific to work with and very good at their jobs. I always worry about both the qualify and consistency of food at larger gatherings and it could not have been better. Our guests included a bunch of foodies, and they raved about their meals. The food was delicious, but the staff/service was horrible. I have dined in Cape May plenty of times and never encounter the pretentious/arrogance of staff members as I did in this restaurant. It was a disgrace. We were a pretty big party so 20% tip was included, which wasn't deserved. Our waiter was condescending, and didn't have the decency to ask everyone what they wanted. The worst was the young female waitress who we had to ask several times for a few things we wanted. Her response was an attitude, one word answer as if we were burdening her and rolled her eyes and walked out without bothering to get us what we asked for. That was the deal breaker. The restaurant has great food and is a little pricey, but worth the money for the quality food you get. So kudos To the chef, The food was great! However when you're a paying customer you should be treated properly, not as if you aren't good enough to be sitting there eating the food you are paying for. Words of advice to the owner....get rid of your staff and replace them with nicer people. It doesn't matter how great the food is, if you don't have the right staff to make your customers feel welcomed then it will turn people off from returning. read more

The food is decent, but the service is below average. First, we walked up to the hostess station, but the hostess wasn't there. Okay, we figured that she was probably seating someone else, so we waited . . . and waited. We were there for five minutes. Even worse, three of the water/bread servers saw us (I even made eye contact with them), but ignored us and continued chatting with each other. It's common sense: If you see people waiting and no hostess in sight, wouldn't you at least come up and say "Someone will be with you in a minute"? After waiting 5-7 minutes, I had to actually go up to one of these geniuses and tell them to get the hostess for us. He did, the hostess showed up with a sour look on her face, and we were finally seated. Our server (name starts w/ S) was adequate at best. She had no smile and spoke robotically; her words were correct, but she said them with no personality or friendliness. Part of the professional duty as a server is to smile and be friendly. Beyond that, we barely saw our main server. Our food was brought out to us by assistants who didn't know how to serve---reaching over some in our party to serve others. We had to ask for fresh pepper and we had to pour our own wine all night. The food was just "okay," but it didn't make up for the lackluster service. They seem to be taking their customers for granted---surprising since it is the beginning of the season. This place bills itself as "fine dining," but the service certainly doesn't live up to that description. All in all, there's nothing special about Union Park, and I won't be going back. read more

WHAT A JOKE!!!!!! This restaurant is stuck in the 80'S!!! Are you serious still garnishing all entrees with rosemary !! Hahaha. For the prices this place is charging they should be embarrassed with the portion size and quality of food that they served. Then they serve me a raw piece of French cut chicken breast, send it back and to return is a 6oz piece of the most over cooked chicken breast I ever ate! This is supposed to be fine dinning? Please I've had better food and service in my local dinner. First time to cape May and this is my first meal TERRIBLE!!! Every year my family and I vacation in Cape May and we never miss a dinner at Union Park. The food is always incredible, the service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is elegant. Not to miss are the delicious freshly made soups, the crab cakes, and the succulent short ribs! I highly recommend it!! read more

We recently dined at this "establishment" with our food-allergic daughter, namely because they advertise themselves as "gluten-free friendly". Much to our horror, the owner/head chef does not understand the concept of cross-contamination! Our gluten-free kids cheeseburger was served to us with some kind of strange cheese paste (when we explicitly asked for American cheese when ordering) along with french fries, which were fried with breaded products. FAIL!!! The owner of the restaurant was unbelievably rude and completely dismissive when I tried to discuss this matter with him, actually turning his back to me and looking out the window while we were in the midst of our "discussion"! He even went as far as to claim that the waitress didn't inform him about the allergies even though we made sure that she wrote them down on the order form. His attempted deception and unwillingness to own up to his mistake is almost as bad as his utter lack of class. When you advertise your restaurant as accommodating to those with a life threatening allergy, you need to fully understand what that entails. To add insult to injury, we found a hair in the $20 kids cheese burger that my other daughter ordered and had to fight with them to remove that meal from the check, something that should be done automatically when such a unsanitary error occurs. This man clearly has no time for out-of-state visitors at his establishment and will pay for that in his pocketbook. read more

We ate at Union Park for a rehearsal dinner before a wedding and the food was excellent. All three courses were delicious. The Seafood Chowder was velvety and flavorful, even a little spicy, which added a nice depth. The short rib entree was very tender (typical), and the sauce really elevated the dish. Dessert was a fruit tart. The fruit was refreshing and balanced the pastry cream nicely. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal, especially as part of a large party (about 30). The library-themed room we were in was classy, and service was attentive. I give out very few 5-Star reviews, but this meal at Union Park definitely warrants one. read more

The food was good. The service was awful. The staff was pretentious and they weren't considerate. They forgot food and our server didn't bother to ask all of our guests what they wanted. Wonderful, caring, creative service. Interesting menu with many good choices. Even though its very much an adult dining experience, care was taken to include the three year old in our group. This was my first time here and I'm glad I went. The salmon was delicious and the service was outstanding!One thing that I loved was that it's BYOB. This is certainly one of the best restaurants I've been to. I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more
