We have come to Cape May about 6 weekends a year for the past 7 or 8 years and until today we have never eaten at Union Park. This was truly a mistake on our part. We had an absolute wonderful meal tonight. We had reservations at 6 so we were able to order off the regular menu or the three course meal special menu. I ate off the three course meal and had a crab cake as a start, chicken for the main meal, and then chocolate semifreddo duet for desert. My wife ordered off the made menu and had the duck. She was a little leery of how it would be cooked but our waiter Ron did an outstanding job of ensuring it was just the way she liked it. Thanks Ron!! It was a great meal with great server Ron, in a beautiful restaurant. We will be back soon. read more

Keep coming back here from NYC. . The crabcakes and lobster are amazing! So are the scallops and the steak. Service is on point, as well.

Food was good...everything was well made. However the service was completely on drugs. I should have brought more wine to deal with the lack of quality service. However I would try again, as one waiter should not reflect an entire restaurant. I hope next time our waiter will be somewhat competent. BYOB is a plus. read more

My husband and I had dinner here recently. Host gave us a choice to sit outdoors on the veranda or inside, we chose inside since it was hot that evening. Service was great, our server got us frosted pilsner glasses for our our beer (this is a byob, although they do sell some local wines), she described the specials to a T, and brought out warm bread and creamy butter. For appetizers we had the tuna tartar and cape point oysters, both superb. For entrees, I had the Ahi special and my husband the duck, both were delicious and had unique seasonings which made them different. For dessert we shared an " ice cream sandwich" which was so differnt and wonderful, you need to go check itout I camnot even describe it! Beef with Dijon and capers. - all very good, the beef was a little heavy on the Dijon. Field green salad - great. With goat cheese and pine nuts. Lobster tails with green beans and marscapone risotto - great. Well cooked lobster, went really well with the creamy risotto. Australian rack of lamb with green beans and mushroom risotto - great lamb cooked just right (rare). Really really good. Went with a party of 15. Service was ok, kind of cold, nothing great. The salmon was very good, moist and tasty. The side dish of rice was bland even with wasabi supposedly in it. The rack of lamb and duck were very good. The lobster tails were just ok. The scallops were overcooked and dry. The kobe burger was undercooked, rare instead of medium rare to medium. The frites were nothing more than potato sticks, very disappointing. The bowl of special cuban navy bean soup was very tasty but more like a cup of soup. The sea bass was overcooked. The oysters were very good. Overall the food was good but the place was pretentious and over-priced. read more

I can only attest to what my husband and I ordered and we have eaten at a wide variety of upscale, hole in the walls, and restaurants in different parts & other countries etc. The Cape May Salt Oysters were amazing, the Fig Appetizer amazing, my entree Filet Mignon over string beans and mashed potatoes Medium Rare with added Lobster Tail Amazing! I live near Center City and it beats Butcher & Singer hands down! It wasn't over salted, you could taste all the flavors, cooked perfectly and cut through was like butter! My husband had the Ribeye and he said it was amazing and being that he is from the Midwest he knows good meat. The manager came over opened and poured our Wine as it is byob and our waitress was lovely, perfect atmosphere, not too loud at all and music was perfect. Disappointing meal at Union Park tonight . The meals are sparse, overpriced and the service poor. The St Lauren Salmon came out after 40 minutes and a reminder to the waiter Bob who hadn't stopped by to keep us posted. The accompaniments were not hot and the lentil side missing. He didn't check back to see how our meals were. The 34.00 duck entree came with fried duck skin and arugula. Very rare. The crab cake entree for 33.00 had two small flash fried crab cakes, harticort verde and a small amount of corn salsa. The dining room wasn't that busy for a Sat. Summer night so the waiter should have had time to return. Keep looking if you are considering this spot. read more

Came to Cape May for a little vacation time and we decided to dine at Union Park. One of the best meals I have had so far. My husband was so happy with his food as well. Service was great! Em we had the Tuna tartar to start. So delicious! I had the scallops and my husband had a fish special. It was marvelous! I never order dessert but since the food was so good I decided to do it. We had the chocolate cake and it was so creamy, rich and huge. I couldn't finish and wrapped to go. I ate that chocolate cake for the next 3 nights! The foie gras was cut thick and insufficiently seared. It's pastry was soggy. The lobster tail was room temperature and lemony. The pastry of the profiteroles was frozen and stale. This restaurant was a big disappointment. read more

This is excellent dining people. Dress but casual, you are at the shore. Order a app diner and desert. Portions are not huge but the taste and presentation is excellent. The lamb was amazing cooked to perfection. Get the asparagus with it. Actually had my wedding there 2 years ago. They accommodated us in every way and the service they provided was simply outstanding. Truly a memorable experience. Its a BYOB. I've already written an entry about the hotel in which Union Park is part of, so I won't get into that. If you're here and looking to know about the eating establishment, then look no further! Union Park offers a pretty wide menu of higher-end food choices. They accept reservations, credit card, and are BYOB. These are three of the most important aspects I look in an eatery. I don't want to feel burdened by needing an ATM, or having to wait, or limiting myself to whatever grog they may have on tap. The food was outstanding, and the portions were larger then the ones at the Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant, while costing me less. If you want a good meal with an ocean view, look no further. Outstanding food, lovely room, attentive service. Not hard to find food for kids, and the wait staff treats them very well. BYOB keeps the price out of the stratosphere. For our table of two adults, a well-traveled teen and two 12 year olds, we started with the charcuterie platter. It consisted of a foie gras terrine, some chorizo, a really cool oxtail marmalade and some bleu cheese, served with freshly toasted bread. Even the kids were practically licking the plate. Very highly recommended, and easily enough for four adults. One of the adults had a roasted black cod special, which was just great. Excellent fish, very well seasoned, in a light and savory sauce. I gather they offer it frequently, and it's worth a try. The other two had the duck duet. "[Ingredient] [n] ways" can be great or a gimmick: here it was great. Perfectly cooked duck breast over duck hash. Deduct a fraction for the hash being just a little on the dry side, but extremely flavorful anyway. The kids shared the hanger steak, which the menu describes as an 8oz portion but which looked bigger to me. It was juicy, perfectly medium rare, and loaded with flavor. The kids were in heaven. We didn't have room for dessert but they looked and sounded great. The service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. They couldn't have been nicer to the kids. One note about sharing: the waiter offered to have the kitchen split the kids' steak and provide full side dishes to each. That was fine, but we didn't think it would have been worth the $10 surcharge (which the waiter was up front about). As it happened, their meal could not have been easier to divide. Best food we had during our week in Cape May, and best overall restaurant experience, too. There are too many places we haven't visited to say "best in town" but this is a don't miss. read more

Excellent meal in a cozy vintage Cape May environment. My wife & I ate here for our 23rd anniversary dinner weekend getaway and it was well worth it. We started with splitting a Caesar salad perfectly done, and a crab cake app which was out of this world. I had the Kobe burger with bacon ad a side of asparagus to add some veggies. My wife had the ribeye special which she also shared and was incredible and flavorful. Both dinners were special - as my burger was more of a steak than a burger. I have made several trips to Union Park over the years but this is my first review. Union Park is an upscale restaurant located on Beach Drive and offers outdoor dining on the porch in the summer which affords you a nice ocean view if you're okay with the street traffic and the noise from the miniature golf course across the street. The main dining room itself is simple but attractive with a high ceiling and nicely appointed tables. A dedicated gluten-free menu is available. This is a BYOB restaurant with local wines also available for purchase. The service last night was impeccable - as has been my usual experience. Our server was friendly and attentive without being overly chatty and the staff kept water glasses filled and cleared plates quickly and quietly. The food is usually creative and excellently prepared. This is a top-shelf kitchen! Last night, one of the specials was halibut over Himalayan red rice and topped with a pineapple-based salsa spiced with pepper and the entire dish circled with a thin line of orange sauce. My wife and I both had that and it was tremendous. The halibut, about the size of a deck of cards if a little thicker, was properly pan-seared leaving the fish flaky and still moist. It was one of the best dishes I have had in awhile. Starters range from a couple of the usual salads - like Caesar and field greens - to a crab cake to duck ravioli and oysters. In short, a wide-ranging selection is available. I had the tuna tartare last night and it was a treat - the tuna was exceptionally fresh and served on a wonton crisp with a pineapple relish and tasty wasabi "crema." My wife had a special appetizer - warm figs with bleu cheese melted onto - almost "into" them. She had never had anything like that and thought it was great. Very interesting combination (they use a lot of cheeses like chèvre, goat and bleu here - I'm not a fan but my wife is, so one of us is happy). Desserts - which we skipped last night but have sampled in the past - include a seasonal tart in a phyllo dough - it's just the right size to follow a rich dinner. There is also a range of sorbet and ice cream flavors available, not to mention profiteroles which pack a lot of chocolate taste into a little pastry. One of tables next to us had the ice cream sandwich made with meringue wafers and seemed quite pleased with it - a nice gluten-free dessert if you like or need to eat that way. All desserts are $10. If I had one knock that keeps me from giving 5 stars, it's that the prices are just a tad too high to be considered a good value. The halibut special described above was $36 - I thought something like $32 would have been spot on. Similarly, the tuna tartare was $16 where I think $14 would have been more representative of fair value. That said, you should still strongly consider Union Park - it's a great dining experience. Just be prepared to dig a little deeper than you might like. In the end, though, you'll remember the food and be glad you went. read more

Had a bad experience. 4 adults and 3 children. Asked for a children's menu and was told tortellini or chicken tenders. Ordered two tortellini's for kids. Baby was sleeping. Bill comes and each childs dinner was $24. That was the same price as my adult entree. Complete shock. read more

A top 25 restaurant in all of Jersey, Union Park's food doesn't disappoint. Situated right across the beach and boardwalk, the view from the outdoor dining deck is nice, but obstructed. During the busy summer months, cars line the streets and the boardwalk interrupt the view of the ocean. Do not be fooled by the Victorian decor, this does not take away from the modern and progressive menu. Perhaps some more modern (yet vintage) furniture and decor could help the restaurant match the food. Portions are perfect and not too small as is the problem with many upscale restaurants with delicate food. Rare tuna was Asian inspired and unexpectedly well-flavored, as was the sea bass, but less robust. Service if friendly, but unrefined. 4 stars for fantastic food, but service falls short of the price. read more

Came here for dinner a few weeks ago with three girl friends. Our goal was to have a sort of "splurge" dinner and this fit the bill but we loved that it was BYOB. The restaurant itself is very traditional, in one of the victorian homes that Cape May is known for, but the serving dishes and the presentation of the food was very modern. We found that a bit odd, but the food was delicious even though the portions were artsy and small. The vegetarian options were limited, but I was delighted to see kale on the menu and enjoyed that as my salad the first course. read more

My family had a wonderful dinner at Union Park during our stay in Cape May. We had a 6:30 res and the dining room was not at all full. Our party of 7 had been seated at a small round table. We asked to be moved to a larger table and we were moved to a lovely private room, which is good because we were a little loud. The food is well prepared and creative. The service was overall attentive and warm. Everyone was loving their choices. To start we had 2 seafood plateaus. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I recommend the duck and the short rib entrees, but the kobe burger is great and you can't go wrong with lobster. The Nutella ice cream sandwich and an espresso is a great way to top it all off. It's BYOB and we didn't know this ahead of time. They offer a few select wines that you get by the bottle or half bottle, however dinner was absolutely delicious. Their fresh mozzarella Burratta bruchetta was very light & refreshing for an appetizer. The N.Y. strip steak dinner special was so tender it cut with a butter knife! The desserts were good too. Not handicap accessible! Yelp lists this place as "wheelchair accessible." There are about 12 stairs to the entrance. When I called to ask about another way in the hostess said. "Well...if you can somehow make it up all the stairs. The inside is accessible." No...that is not how it works. read more
