I lived in Japan 20 years ago and UNIQLO was my go-to clothing store. The Japanese culture seems to have carried over because I went shopping for a raincoat - they had it and it's great looking for not much - and was impressed by the service when I went to buy that simple, fashionable raincoat. I asked a woman/girl who was doing some worker stuff if they had the bucket hat on the mannequin. "Not sure, let me check," and she basically ran to the lower level, scoured the bins but came up empty. That's impressive considering how our retail workforce usually has utter disdain for customers. At UNIQLO, not the case. Never has been. I know it's only a simple thing she did but her exuberance was refreshing, and not uncommon for Japanese brands. 10 STARS! read more

I was excited that Uniqlo now has a Hawaii location which is huge and pretty cool. BUT there are a lot of caveats!! The store is clean and sales people seem nice enough, but Uniqlo is treating its Hawaii shoppers like 2nd class customers. Like most competitive national chain stores, you can order Uniqlo merchandise via their website, which has a better selection of sizes and colors. HOWEVER, unlike our other national chain stores where returns and exchanges can be made in the local store, Hawaii Uniqlo will not accept returns, exchanges nor price adjustments on internet purchases. And they have the nerve to require you to return items and pay a shipping fee (shipping when your purchase online is $5, but it's $7 for returns--what??!!). ALSO, they do not price match their own sale internet items in-store. Finally, you cannot return items purchased in Hawaii online or at Mainland stores. What the heck?!! Uniqlo has a few items that I can't get elsewhere & when I am positive of my size, I'll get them online (since they don't have them in the store). Once I've acquired those, I won't be supporting a store that wants our local business but treats us worse than any other location they have. The service and clothes are fine. Prices are way too high and there are literally more stores in the mall that have better clothes for a cheaper price. What made me score it a 1 star was because the managers in the store seemed "off" something about there fake artificially happy attitude creeped me the hell out not to mention he had a high pitch "fake happy" voice which just made it more creepy. I honestly think this store is cult or something because something isn't right about the management. I swear they mistreat there workers or something because every worker acted like they were dying (they did a good job regardless on terms of customer service) and the managers all acted like it was the happiest day of there lives (clearly faking it) and it was way too creepy. read more

On December 23, against my teenage son's advice that it would be too complicated and tech-challenging for me, I went to Uniqlo Ala Moana to try out the UTme!: Graphic T-Shirt Customization Service. He was right. It was so hard for me to figure out because I am a borderline Boomer. BUT...I managed to make him a very cool t-shirt with scattered photos of his dog. This was possible THANKS to the awesomeness of SKYLER B!!! This Uniqlo team member was working the UTme station and was truly the most patient, helpful, and friendly worker in Ala Moana Center that I have ever met in my lifetime. He helped me over 20 times as I fumbled around trying to figure out everything from upload to customization. I was there well over an hour while over 10 other customers came and went after customizing, printing and purchasing their shirts and tote bags through Skyer B. He was also friendly and helpful to each and everyone of them. Even though he was extremely busy, every time I got frustrated and almost gave up, he came over and patiently assisted me. Eventually I was able to make the shirt I wanted but would have never been able to accomplish that without his suggestions and help. Thank you so much for the best service ever, Skyler B! read more

Our slim Asian family can finally get affordable clothes that fit without alterations and without having to travel to Japan! (Although we'll use any excuse to go there!) We all love their pants, both men's and women's. The tshirt designs are, well, unique and sturdy enough to last through years of machine washing. We especially love the Ukiyoe-based scenic designs and featured prints from various Japanese designers. Their lightweight rain jackets and moisture-wicking fabrics are perfect for Hawaii's climate. The Hawaii store has some clothing (tshirts, aloha shirts, and dresses) that are only available in the Hawaii stores. I like the convenience of the tops and dresses that have built-in bras. A good example of Japanese efficiency! Check out the sale items, there are often really good deals to be found! But you have to be lucky because there is a LOT of competition on this island! I went to check out this store last week and was pretty impress, they layout is pretty cool with 3 levels. Scrolling red LED signs all across the back wall make it cool and impressive. I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable the merchandise was and they have some super cheap specials. Some collared short sleeve men's shirts were going for $3.90. I ended up buying 2 t-shirts that were about $9 and $15, they were tagless and seemed very well manufactured. After washing them I noticed they were very soft and fit well. I will definitely recommend it to people to check out and will be back soon the purchase some more shirts. read more

I like uniqlo's functional clothing like the Airism line that is good to wear in Hawaii's warm humid weather. The airism masks are my favorite to wear during this pandemic. When I traveled pre-pandemic, I wore my ultralight down jacket that was easily packable and good to wear in cooler climates like Japan or Spain in the fall. Some of their other clothes is hit or miss and looks much better on the model or on the hanger than when I tried it on. But if I'm looking for functional clothing then uniqlo is one of the best places to check out. read more

My workout partner has been talking about UNIQLO so much since he's been to the stores on the Mainland. He was stoked when they decided to open up shop here. So fast forward to now, really didn't see what the big deal was. So we took a trip to Ala Moana just to come here. That was the worst mistake ever, because EVERYTHING IS SO CUTE!!! My workout partner ended up buying some cute aloha shirts. My daughter was in heaven with all their leggings and cute outfits. Their clothing was also very casual/professional/cover all the bad stuff cute! And when I say it covers the bad stuff, ladies you KNOW what I mean by that ok! Maybe I should have said it accentuates the good stuff lol. Anyhow, $100 we all had a little something from the shop. I can't believe how big this store is. I've been to the express or pop up store closer to the escalators in Ala Moana Shopping Center, but this was my first time in the main store. Everything is neatly organized, the prices are clearly visible, and the health and safety standards are being enforced. The selection of T-Shirts is amazing, and if you aren't into novelty T-Shirts, they also have a variety of casual wear to choose from. The workers were friendly and always made an effort to greet you even if they are stocking shelves or arranging merchandise. Check this place out, even if you just like to window shop. read more

Hurray! Uniqlo has fully opened; 2 floors and a mezzanine. Why 4-stars? Don't get me wrong, I am so very grateful that Uniqlo is finally here! I was looking forward to their petite sizing but unfortunately, they don't carry it in this location. Before Hawaii Uniqlo, I only shopped at Japan Uniqlo because mainland Uniqlo sizes ran big (for me but regular for most normal sized people). And unfortunately, there's still a lot of products I will probably have to get from Uniqlo in Japan. Uniqlo bras are my favorite!!! So when I found out that the US sizing is much larger and never correlates with the Japan sizing, I was devastated!!! But if they do fit you in the right places, I highly suggest buying them. If you're petite, try to get your hands on the Japan Uniqlo bras. It'll fit like a glove....but it's a bra, you get it. Another item I like is their draped crewneck shirt for women (seasonal) and the airism yoga leggings which can easily be hemmed with hem tape because Uniqlo doesn't provide hemming for those type of pants. Also, not that you'll need it in Hawaii, Heat Tech is life if you're traveling somewhere cold. Buy it, you won't regret it. Almost every item goes on sale at some point which makes it even more affordable than it already is! But, be warned about the weird return policy that is Specially for Hawaii Uniqlo. It applies to online orders and purchases made in the mainland US. I love Uniqlo and I am so glad they finally made their way to Hawaii! Affordable, quality clothes for the whole family. The staff couldn't have been nicer and went out of their way to help, way more than you would expect. On one shirt I really liked, there seemed not to be any Larges. I asked the worker who we super nice. She started checking and calling and it looked like they didn't have any. I told her that was okay and started to walk off. Then she ran over, "I think we have some at the very top." She got out a ladder and a hook, went up and got me one. Most places, the worker just would have been like, "Yeah, sorry." Also, amazing upgrade they have here! On the spot screenprinting!! And, it's only $25 and it's a quick turnaround as you wait. Other places in town are $35 for on the spot printing and it's the cheap, hard cotton shirts. Or, other places for $25 take DAYS, up to 10 (which I just did, begged for a rush job and it took three days and the color was wrong). It's only white but it's a nice soft white shirt. Also, it's full color. Then, you wonder if it's a plasticy print? Nope. It's embedded into the fabric like a regular t-shirt. Again, for $25! Also, the worker at the screenprinting shop was busting his ass, super busy, but somehow was super nice to everyone, made you feel like you were getting individual attention with questions. The Honolulu store at Ala Moana keeps all three physical levels brightly neat, clean and friendly. Uniqlo constantly changes its styles in creative ways. My first experience came at the Shinjuku store in Tokyo. T-shirt quality tops the market. The shirts wear comfortably for years. In my 70s, I stick to conservative styles, but enjoy Peanuts, Disney and solid color Ts. Because of traveling, I am next trying out Uniqlo fast drying apparel. This store is located on the third floor in the mall in the old Miu Miu location and will be there for 3-4 months until the new permanent store actually opens. This is a small location with mostly t-shirts and some bottoms. They have a lot of cute tees for men women and kids! I went today because they have a super cute Doraemon Murakami collaboration t-shirt collection which I think will sell out fast! They already sold out of the dolls before I got there In the afternoon. The tees are all $14.90 and well made for the price. I love the Japanese inspired designs. UNIQLO is a fast growing mid market Japanese retailer. I was unexpectedly surprised at how cool their Ala Moana pop up t-shirt shop and main store are. I like this place but let me get one think off of my chest. All of the employees have been trained in Japanese body language and it is just weird. They point/direct using a full extended arm and they had had you back your credit card using two hands. They also say "sorry" if they pass to the side of you. The rest of their body language is pure local and it is like they are channeling a Japanese person only when they talk or interact with you. It is creepy. In term of product, this place is great. The t-shirt store in the center of the mall had the usual Japanese Naruto and Doraemon deigns you'd expect for a Japanese retailer. Most of the shirts had prints on the front and back. Take a look at my pics to see them. The main store had some interesting offerings. There was some Japanese interpreted Aloha wear. There was a display explaining how the Aloha shirt was born out of recycling kimonos. There were women's linen shirts for $20-$30. They offer onsite alterations for pants at no charge for a visible seam and $10 for an invisible seam. As a short guy, this is a great service. read more

I have a pinched sciatic nerve so was a bit annoyed when I had merchandise to purchase on the first floor and saw the sign that I needed to pay on the third floor. Well, I thought...it's the pandemic. Perhaps it is because there aren't many customers. WRONG. I go to the third floor gingerly climbing up the steps and note there is a rather long line of paying customers. At another time I would have appreciated the cashier joking, and talking, while hawking masks and bags but today was not the day. The line progressed slowly. UNIQLO in Honolulu? Yes! Can't believe it, but yes, its 1st Japan-based store in Hawaii, thank you! In my recent trips to Japan, it was one of those stores that I looked forward to going to, as they were found in the major cities throughout Japan. This store is the 4th largest apparel retailer in the world and sells casual clothing (t-shirts, blouses, jeans, slacks, jackets, shorts, bags) for men, women, and children. The designs are simple and basic, functional, affordable, and are of good quality. They have a variety of colors and designs for people of all ages, with most of the clothing made in China. UNIQLO is a pop-up store that opened on June 1, 2018 at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, on the 3rd floor next to Armani (take the escalator up, and it's on your left), with its store manager, Yuya Tanahashi. The opening coincided during the 150th anniversary year of Gannenmono, which is the arrival of the 1st Japanese immigrants in Hawaii. A permanent store encompassing 17,300 square feet of two floors will open in the Fall in the Ewa wing of the shopping center. The pop-up store will stay open until the permanent one opens up. On opening day, went to the store at about 12:30 pm; it had opened at 9:30 pm. What a crowd of people! There was a line to get into the store, and after waiting about 15 minutes, we got in, adhering to their crowd-control strategy. I loved their shirt graphics of Mickey & friends, Japanese cartoon characters, Lego, Back to the Future, Hokusai wave, and so many others that you'll have a liking to. They only have two dressing rooms, so it took about a 15-minute wait to try on the shirts to ensure the right size. (In Japan the stores stock sizes on the smaller size to fit the Japanese people, but I notice the Hawaii store appeared to have their clothing true to size.) And typical of the stores in Japan, they return your credit card and receipt to you with both hands as a sign of respect, which is a humble Japanese custom. Love their packaging of the blue and white Hokusai wave and red handle bags taped with a UNIGLO tape. And I was excited, as we found some Mickey t-shirts to wear at our granddaughter's birthday party that we are hosting, as Mickey & friends are the theme. Perfect! I love the t-shirt designs, as many of the graphics are due to the store's partnership with Disney, Pixar, Sanrio, Discovery Channel, etc. It just collaborated with Sesame Street to produce some 23 designs by the end of June 2018. Its clothing is lightweight and can be comfortably worn year round in our tropical climate. In Japan, the stores are seasonal, with down jackets and warmer clothing during Fall and Winter. I've purchased a down jacket from UNIQLO and am very satisfied with it - keeps me warm when traveling out-of-state during the Fall/Winter season and was of good quality (not the best, but close to) and was so reasonable. However, I would imagine this store in Hawaii would cater to the locals for its casual wear that can be worn yearlong. Prices? Most t-shirts are affordable, at $14.90 for adults and $9.90 for kids. They have a 60-day return/exchange policy. What a funny name, you ask? Yes, in name and its spelling. It's pronounced "yooneeklow." In May, 1984, a store opened in Fukuro-machi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima under the name of "Unique Clothing Warehouse" and registered under "UNICLO." But in 1988, staff misread it as "UNIQLO" when doing administrative work with Hong Kong. From then, the name was changed to "UNIQLO" across Japan. UNIQLO was started in 1949, with its 1st store in Ube, Yamaguchi Perfecture, Japan. There are now about 2,000 stores worldwide (Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, China, France, Germany, and Hong Kong). UNIQLO is also located in major US cities, including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and Philadelphia; and in Colorado, Virginia, and Florida. Yes, I will definitely be going back! With its popularity in Japan with their locals, I envision that UNIQLO Hawaii will also be popular with the locals here. I just hope it's not as crowded as it was on opening day. With less people, I hope to take the time to look through all their graphic designs. Don't know how long this will last but one gets a chance to see Uniqlo not once but twice! There's one location on the 2nd floor above the Center court Stage and a second location that spans the 1st and 2nd floor near Nordstroms. I've noticed the Japanese based stores have several similar features of being well laid out, clean, items neatly stacked and visually appealing. Uniqlo is no different and they have a wide selection of products to cater to a variety of interests. Majority of their merchandise is clothing (Sorry to those who are looking for a BassPro substitute, this ain't it) which has a Hawaii theme. The store near Center Court shows a sampling of what is in the main store near Nordstroms. The sales personnel are very helpful to everyone. I hardly make any trips to Alas nowadays since the pandemic hit but whenever I am, I love coming here. 3 floors of wonderful; when I walk in, I get a sense of euphoria with all the lights and kawaii graphics. Their clothing is high quality, their cotton is so soft, their jeans are like butter against my skin. I was looking for plain white tees and it was so hard to pick one out of the 5+ variations of white tees. Just wow. So many things to choose from. It's a good and bad thing that I live on the west side because I would go broke shopping here. I think it's so cool that they have collabs with some local things as well as anime that I grew up with. The service I received was nice too. They have sanitizer at the door and the associates always say hi and bye. I called in asking if they had a couple of items and the associate was super helpful in checking the floor and their system, it was as if I was there shopping in person, if that makes sense. Very personable. It's hard to come by especially through the phone. Social distancing stickers are helpful; the place is so huge it's pretty easy to navigate. I returned a couple things too and the process was pretty straightforward. The dressing rooms are off limits, which is understandable during this time. Final sale items however are literally final sale so be sure you want it and make sure it's your size. Other than that, you can't go wrong here. Prices are so affordable, there are so many sales that pop up here and there, great for gifts, everyday wear, for work and everything in between. read more

Found out about uniqlo only a couple of years ago & boy do I love it! I haven't been here in a while but they now have a self check out service which is great for people on the go. The clothes here are basic closet essentials for amazing prices. The sales here can be so good as well ($20 for a pair of oversized jeans!). I personally love the t-shirts (graphic or plain) because of the oversized fit they have on me & because of the soft material. Not to mention, they have altercation services for pants & let you print designs on tote bags. Very dangerous for your wallet. The largest retailer in all of Asia has finally made its way to Hawaii! This little pop-up from Tokyo features a wide variety of UT's (Uniqlo T-Shirts) with Artist collaborations from all over the world. For just $14.90 or less, you could walk home with a beautiful Hokusai UT or quirky Doraemon x Takashi Murakami UT. The friendly staff greet customers with big smiles and keep the lines running smoothly. I have had no trouble getting the sizes or t-shirts I need. The brand new, 3-Level Uniqlo Store is scheduled to open in the Ewa Wing of Ala Moana Center in Fall 2018. Stay tuned!! read more

Okay, this store has been open for awhile now, so Im really late with this review! I was pretty excited when I first heard that UNIQLO was opening up in Hawaii - I've always loved their clothes and how affordable they are. I mainly come here to shop for the anime shirts for my boys, especially my oldest son. He absolutely loves coming here with me cause of all the choices he has on anime shirts such as Dragonball, Naruto/Boruto & One Piece, but mama absolutely loves the prices! About $10 for anime tee, yessss!! As for me, a lot of the styles aren't to my liking for some reason, but I do enjoy their character shirts, especially the Disney characters! The only downside is the fact that they only have regular crew neck shirts, where I don't like to use shirts with the neckline is right by my neck - I prefer scoop and v-necks when it comes to shirts. From my understanding, this is a "pop up" version of a retailer that will be opening up a larger location in another area of the mall permanently. This pop-up is located on the third floor near center stage, where the old Miu Miu location used to be. Uniqlo is a Japan-based clothing brand. Most of their product are T-shirts. What is great about Uniqlo is that they collaborate with many different brands and artists on their designs. I've wandered into this place twice already to check out their Summer Minion collection. SUPER CUTE!!! I should also mention that the quality of product you receive is lasting. The material of the clothing is cotton soft! (not the scratchy cheap t-shirts). Anyhow, I bought a Minion shirt the first time and loved it so much that I HAD to head back in for seconds. Since the Minion shirts don't come in ladies-fit, I just buy the xs. I cut the collar & sleeve hems off to wear it as an off-the-shoulder top! Associates have a great friendly attitude. As I was looking for a size, I accidentally destroyed a neat pile of shirts (oops!). I began to try to fold them up again as neat as possible, but an associate approached me right away and told me not to worry about it. I also told her the size I was in search of was not in the stack. She got another associate with a ladder to get me the last one hanging on the top shelf. Cashiers are polite to the max. To control the check-out line, they repeat the same line, "next guest please step up..." or something along those lines. I do wish they carried larger sizes in their inventory... I wanted to get my man a matching Minion shirt, but they didn't carry XXL. An associate informed me that they may carry a wider range of sizes in the future and also, to check online. If you order things online you are unable to return them back at the store. If you want to return you need to pay for return shipping. Customer service is completely lacking. Which is a big surprise considering their Japan stores are all on point. Haven't shopped here in a while because it has been a real disappointment. The quality of clothing is great and the price you pay is of great values. I have found that all the clothing that I have bought has lasted a good amount of time and in good shape. First time coming here and I gotta say, I was also excited. I'm a novelty shirt wearing kinda guy and this place brought back some memories of old school cartoons or shows and they had some cool looking weird designs. This store is apparently from Japan. They had a bunch of dead Sesame Street characters and other old school TV shows or movies. I really wanted this Childs Play "Chuckie" shirt that I saw, but they only had it for the females. I was a bit dissappinted to find out that they didn't carry my 2X size. The staff said because they just recently opened up, they don't carry all the sizes. The parking is in the Ala Moana Center so there's a lot. The staff here are friendly and helpful. I just wished they carried more sizes :( read more
