First time and last time. Went in and wow so busy and rave reviews D magazine rated. So excited. U was having a dress altered that I have worn once. Went to pick up...tried on...stain on front. Very small but in front. Oh no! Event next day! Inquired nicely. Staff is very nice. They call out Daisy the owner. Very combative, yelled at me, offered $5 off....well, dry cleaning costs will be a lot more and I won't have my dress in time. I was calm and started to discuss customer service. She turned around and walked away. Never been spoken to in such a deeming manner. Shame on you Daisy....maybe anger management classes? Guess she feels like it doesn't matter cuz they are so busy? For years, the traffic; horrible parking lot; 10 minute wait; and hole-in-the wall feel have been worth it for a quick turnaround on a pair of jeans or pants at the price, but not so much after today's encounter. I brought in two dresses to be taken in and paid to have each of them finished in one day. Rushing wasn't worth it. I arrived in Houston with dresses in tow and could not wear either. The first dress is patterned with a distinct black line repeating down the dress 3 times, and in the rush of finishing the lines are far from parallel. The other dress, silk and my favorite of all dresses had a cut/tear in the cap sleeve not far from the new seam after taking in the excess. I called and was assured with my pink ticket receipt I could return to the shop within 30 days to have the dresses 'fixed.' Not exactly. Much like others' experiences, I was firmly told "the lines are not our work, if the dress fits, we can't control the pattern" and refused to attempt to repair. As for the other dress, the cut/tear was twisted to be "there before" and because my dress was "worn, not new." The conversation, scratch that, one-sided conversation went down hill from there and I left with both ruined dresses and out $63.00. I would have moved on and never returned, except the behavior of the female owner, yelling to convey her innocence and yelling, "you leave now" has earned her a citation in small claims court. I was charged for work not performed, and the front counter lady is exceptionally rude. I took 4 garments in. One of the garments was completely skipped and untouched, but they charged me for it anyway. I feel that this is just outright fraud or incompetence. All three of the other garments look terrible, and you can see where they took shortcuts and didn't actually do the work. On two pairs of pants that needed to be shortened, instead of cutting and removing unwanted hemline fabric, they just folded it up and sewed it in, like you would do for a child who might soon outgrow their pants. Since I am a 50 year old man, this doesn't work for me. It feels and looks bulky and ridiculous. I will have to spend more money to have all this redone at a real tailor shop somewhere else. They wouldn't refund my money on the shirt they skipped, (because they have no regret about their own fraud or incompetence), so I was forced to leave it with them so they could complete it. However, I am going to forfeit that shirt as well as the money I paid to fix it, because I don't ever intend to set foot in that incompetent hateful place ever again. You shouldn't either. read more

My bridedmaid's dress came in and it was too small and I needed it bigger in the next two days. I called to see if I could get a quick turnaround on letting out my dress. They told me to come in and they would see what they could do. I dropped my dress off at 12:00 and got a call 6 hours later that the dress was done. Quality work, wonderful and fast service, and reasonably priced. So thankful to have found such a great tailor! Thank you for saving the day!! read more

They did a great job fixing my suit and now it fits very well. Awesome work considering the low price tag that comes with their service. I wasn't in any rush to get my clothes and they told me a little over a week. My friends have been able to get their clothes back sooner by asking so if you need it quick persistence is the key! Unique is busy and pretty small so try coming during non-peak hours unless you want to wait 20 minutes before someone helps you. I guess it's not their fault. With all the positive reviews and their consistent work I can't blame anyone for wanting to come here for their tailoring needs. read more

Unique Tailor is FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC!!!! I have yet to find a place here in Dallas that has affordable prices on simple alterations, but that is all behind me now. Unique offers hemming on jeans for $4.99!!! It's a little pricier if you want the original hem, or if there is a blank stitch on the hemline, but it's still under $10!!! That's hard to beat. Of course, if you want them the same day it's also a little more, but if you are willing to wait a few days, it's worth it. I recently took a bridesmaid dress, and two pairs of jeans to be altered and was out the door for under $50! I even think that they may have cleaned my dress because I distinctly remember getting some deodorant on the dress when trying it on for the alterations, and when I picked it up today the stains were magically gone!!! They did not charge me any extra for this... The only reason I have not given UA five stars (this rating should probably be a 4.5) is for a few reasons: 1. Lack of parking - UA is located in the same plaza as Campisis Pizza, across from Mockingbird Station. There are only a few designated parking spots, and everything else is reserved for the surrounding businesses. Don't park there if you think you will be in and out (because you wont) and you may face a fine or ticket if you are parked too long 2. Always busy! - UA is always super packed when you take clothes in. There are only two changing rooms, and two people doing measurements at any given time. Every time I have gone, the line has been almost out the door. The best time to go is after 6pm (their hours of operation say til 6 online but they are actually open til 7:30 and stop taking measurements at 7). I guess this is a plus and a minus for UA since lots of business usually means the place is really good at what they do. 3. Privacy - When you try your clothes on you have to come back out to the main room and get up on a pedestal in front of EVERYONE to have your clothes pinned. Luckily I read this in a previous review, otherwise I may have gone in with the hairiest legs ever to have my dress altered!!! So if you are not comfortable with everyone staring at you while you are in pants that your butt might bust out of...you may want to try another location :) Hands down, I would recommend Unique to anyone in the surrounding area. For the price, quickness of service, friendly nature of the staff, and quality of service there is no other place I would consider taking my clothes! read more

The girl at the front is incredibly rude. She is always commenting about how it's weird that I breastfeed past a year. I've been coming here for 6 years, and lately I've been bringing in vintage dresses to make them breastfeeding friendly. Every single time, the girl here always gives me her unwanted two cents. Today, she said that's not what they do in Mexico and that babies are weaned by 12 months. Cool story. You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. Rude as rude can be. Not everyone, mainly the owner guy and the lady with really short hair. I brought in 7 dresses to be altered based on fellow yelpers review. The craftsmanship is quite bad. All I did was gotten all of them hemmed. The pleats became unpleated at the bottom when I was told that the repairs would look exactly like the original. My brand new Tory Burch dress mysteriously had some stains on it and they said that the stains weren't noted during the fitting (DUH, it wasn't there!). I tried to point this out and was told quite rudely that it was brought in that way (what?!). Instead of cleaning it, they just gave me a $10 refund. Everything was from $20-$25 when I was told that it'll be $15-$20 max. I don't mind paying bc these are all nice dresses but some of the stitching wasn't even, threads were coming out, there was bunching at the back for 2 of the dresses. When I tried to point this out to the owner, he WALKED AWAY from the conversation. When I tried to addressed the issues one dress at a time, the lady with really short hair said she was too busy and didn't have time to go through dress by dress with me. WHAT?! I guess the rave about them is that their hemming is done cheaply and quickly. I give them 1 star for horrible service, lack of professionalism, general dishonesty and poor worksmanship. I will NEVER COME BACK and will urge all of my Dallas friends to save themselves a headache and go elsewhere. I've lived in multiple states and let me tell you, these people would go out of business in a month max in places like New York and DC where competition is fierce so you better be good at your job. This place used to be great. Now all they care about is how many customers they can serve. Horrible customer service and workmanship. The last alteration I had done there wa son a pair of shorts that were too big. I tried on the completed altereation and one leg whole was so small I could barely fit my leg through and the other was huge. Come on now!?! I said that I was not going to pay for it. The rude lady told me she would take $2.00 off!!!!! The shorts are now useless. I paid almost $20 for an alteration that ruined a brand new pair of $60 shorts that I have now thrown away. Yes, the prices are dirt cheap and turnaround time is fast. But, know what you're getting yourself into before you come here. First, expect to wait in line at least 15 minutes (or up to 30 when it's busy) just to try on your clothes. This place is ALWAYS busy. Yes, always. I've come here at 10 am, 11 am, don't come during lunch, 2 pm and 3 pm on the weekdays and there's always a line here. Second, quality can be hit or miss. Sometimes your jean original hem might not be completely straight if you look at it very closely. But other times, you feel like you got a steal for the quality of work. I'd recommend coming here for every day wear. If you have a nice pair of pants or dress that you want to be perfectly altered, I'd recommend going somewhere else--not worth the risk. read more

DO NOT USE THIS TAILOR They lie and do terrible work. We took fabric to make simple curtains with directions on size of the window.They make flat pieces of fabric the size if the window opening so there is no way to gather the curtain to make it look like a curtain. We went right back in to the store and the "owner" wasnt there. I appears the owner is never there and she dosent return phone calls so we are stuck with a piece of beautiful fabric that is of no use and paying for bad work on top!!!! Today I had one of the worst customer service experiences of my entire life. After picking up a very expensive cocktail dress that had been tailored, I tried it on to realize it was very, very far off from what was desired, to the point I thought it was ruined. I returned to Unique Tailors with the dress to resolve the issue. When I brought the problem up to the woman at the desk, she yelled at me and made a scene in front of 10 customers asking me what I wanted her to do about it. I tried on the dress and determined that she could possibly fix it however when got ready to leave, she informed me that she would charge me extra for the additional work. When I protested, she yelled, slammed her hand on the counter and stormed off. Unbelievably poor service from an establishment very highly rated and recommended. These ppl are far from amazing if you're willing to forgo customer service and the piece of mind that come from knowing your clothes are in considerate and capable hands. Due to my height, I get things tailored pretty much on the regular. I have a tailor I like, but she is not all that convenient and traffic is always a bit tricky over by her shop. So I was looking elsewhere and decided to give this place a try b/c a) its on the way home, b) its cheap and c) a couple of friends recommended it. Perfect combo, right? Right. So I started taking the basics there and tho there is ALWAYS a line, it was cheap and convenient. So, per usual, I took in some tailoring which included a vintage dress that I was obsessed with. It needed a new zipper and a new hem. Waited in line for a good 15 minutes, finally talked to one of their tailors, worked with her to determine what I wanted/needed done to the dress and was on my way. About a week later I pick up the dress on my way home from work and when I get it home and try it on I find that the hem has been taken up 3 inches TOO SHORT and the fabric has been cut completely instead of folded over and hemmed. Pls keep in mind this is a vintage 1940s dress - I can't go buy another. Similarly, since they cut the fabric, there is no undoing the mistake. Its permanent and now more or less ruined. The next day I return to the store, of course wait in line for another 15, only to meet with the woman who I met with a week before to have her tell me that she got confused (prob b/c they're hustling so many ppl in and out of the store that they have no time for customer service) and tho we had measured it out together, forgot what we had discussed (read: did not take the appropriate notes or make the appropriate markings) and just chopped the dress from where she "thought" I meant. Didn't bother to call or double check, just went on a hunch and chopped an irreplaceable dress. Now I realize its just a dress - clothes. No one died. Believe me, I have worked to keep this in perspective, but its also important to realize that their business is their livelihood therefore making their livelihood clothes........... After we had discussed her confusions and she admitted her mistake, I asked for compensation. Either the money I paid for the dress (now that its ruined) or them fixing it (i.e. adding a panel to the bottom - not what I wanted but my only option at this point) for free. Alas no. Even tho she admitted it was her mistake, all I could talk her in to was my money back for the hemming back ($12). And I shouldn't have even had to talk her into that, but once again, no sense of customer service. So, I spent the next week hunting down a fabric that matched to serve as the panel and then payed another tailor to retro fit the dress. In the end, due to their mistake, I ended up spending an additional week of fritzing with this and $37 fixing it. And here I am ranting about it on Yelp. I have never Yelped before. Always read, never write. But these folks have forced me to write in an attempt to save others from the perils of a customer-service-less alterations factory. All of this is to say, if they had had time and concern for providing good customer service, they would have done whatever it took to fix their mistake. This effort would have me praising them here on Yelp rather than warning against. Moral 'o story - I'm never going back there. Have returned to my previous, more expensive and less convenient tailor who has the time for me and my clothes. Similarly, in all of my year's of going to the tailor, I would recommend that you refrain from taking anything of value to Unique Tailor. They are too busy to provide you with the care and consideration a garment of worth requires. They'll just shuffle you in and out as fast as possible and potentially ruin your clothes in the process. I use Unique Tailor for everything. I have had jeans hemmed, bridesmaid dresses altered, buttons sewn, and various other tailoring/ alteration needs. Unique Tailor is a very fair price and they have pretty quick turnaround. Dress hemming has run around $20, jeans hemming is $10 (one-day service) and little projects like buttons are a couple dollars each. I have never had an issue with quality; their work is very reliable. read more

Service is quick, relatively inexpensive and professional. Workers are no nonsense, but not in a bad way - they get the job done. I went to have two dresses hemmed, both with multiple layers. While other places cited much higher quotes due to what they claimed would be an extremely difficult corseted bodice to take in, Unique Tailor seemed to have no problems and ended up being about $10 cheaper than other places. I've gone back since to have my pants hemmed (just $5!) and have been pleased with the results. They did a great job, in a few days so I then took in a few pairs of pants to be hemmed. Again, as promised on time. This is my new favorite place. They have very fair prices and do a good job. I've had several items tailored here, including a bridesmaid dress that was custom-made by a different tailor and came out looking like something my mom would have worn to church in the 80s, EEK! The dress was scoopneck and racerback, but the front was too high and the back was way too wide and just not flattering. I took it to unique tailor who altered it and made it much more acceptable so I felt fabulous for the big day!! I have also had pants hemmed, and as others have said, they do keep the original hem, which is great! They price is very affordable and they are super-speedy!!! read more

Decent work but unbelievably crazy high priced and certainly NOT worth it. Had two basic shirts taken in around the torso, nothing done to sleeves or length. It was $38.89! I used them once a couple of years ago and it seemed reasonable then. If you do go, make sure you find out what your bill will be before having them do the work. I feel totally ripped off. Used them for years, put up with long lines, lack of customer service, hit or miss quality, paying upfront until one day I brought in a dress that needed to be hemmed and they messed it up. The place is great. The chinese couple that runs the place aren't the friendliest people, but their prices are great! You walk in and take a room, get fitted, they write your ticket for you and your good to go. The turn around time is fast and they can have things ready in a day if you really need it. The first time I went I took my suit, and two pairs of pants and the total came out to be $36. And my suit had lining in it too(the lining costs an extra $10). This place is open late: 9AM to 8PM Monday thru Saturday. It has been crazy busy every time I'm there so be prepared to stand in line, but the price and quickness of their work makes this place totally worth it. read more

I've been coming here since 2008 and sadly today was my last visit. Asian lady with the boy cut and purple sweater today 4/28/14 (wish I had a name) had the WORST attitude and was obviously having a bad day and decided that I would be a good target. Rudely interrupted me on several occasions while I was in mid sentence by telling me to listen to her. She would not let me explain what I needed - it was her way or no way. I got so frustrated and told her that I could take my business elsewhere and finally I just spoke with someone else. The final person I spoke to even had a look of shock on her face. Yes this place is cheap and they do a fairly good job, but I'll pay twice the price to not get yelled at. I have never written a yelp review before, but I am so appalled by the way I was treated today, I felt compelled to write something. I came in to get my daughter's uniforms fixed, (after they mistakenly hemmed them), and was treated so horribly, I will never go back again. The woman helping me blamed me for the issue, and was extremely rude...almost had me in tears. This is not the first time I've been treated poorly there, but I kept going because it is convenient for me. I cannot believe this place is still in business. I'm with Nikki D. I don't get why this place has gotten negative reviews. The prices are the best I've found in Dallas. They do a very careful job to get the job right. When a mistake is made, they correct it. It is always packed. I've seen that the attitude is mentioned over and over again. Let's give them a little grace....they deal with all kinds of customers some who are kind and some who are not kind. If they are unemotional, I do not fault them. If you haven't tried Unique Tailor, give them a chance. Just don't expect them to be super sweet. They will do the job. read more

Completely ruined 11 of my best shirts and wouldn't reimburse anything, even after admitting the shirts were unwearable. When I insisted they take some responsibility, they loudly threatened me in front of other customers. They seized the shirts and told me to sue them. What more can I say? Got the shirts back, tried to get another tailor to undo the clumsy work, ended throwing them all away. read more

I used this place a couple of times because of all the reviews. I hat to say it but I was disappointed every time but still kept going back because I was dumb. My hems always came out and the legs where uneven. They seem to rush their work because they're so popular now and can't keep up with the influx so they get things done quickly rather than correctly.
