We had the purple-colored Ube Pancakes and the Khao Hom Waffle, which contained strips of fresh coconut meat, and both beautifully-plated dishes were topped with berries and syrup. I was an even bigger fan of the Thai side of the menu, starting with the Papaya Salad, a refreshing, crunchy mixture of shredded papaya, green beans, tomatoes, and crushed peanut in a spicy, sweet, acidic dressing made of fish sauce and lime. For our mains, the Northern Thai Khao Soi was a noodle soup made of egg noodles and chicken breast strips in a rich coconut curry, topped with crispy egg noodles, pickled cabbage, and fried shallots. From the Chef's Special menu, the Tom Yum Crab Omelet was a mound of jasmine rice enveloped with an egg omelet, topped with chunks of crab, mushrooms, and a creamy tom yum sauce; and my favorite dish was the Roti Gai Tod, a hearty combination of breaded chicken thigh, roti (a flaky flatbread), cucumber salad, jasmine rice, and a mild but flavorful yellow curry sauce on the side. Overall, everything we tried here was delicious, and the service was super quick and friendly too! It's hard to go wrong with anything on the extensive menu--what a great hidden gem of a restaurant in downtown Hayward!

Tom Yum Crab Omelette- the best one to get since it has creamy tom yum sauce, a soft omelette, drizzled with a slice of lime, and crab meat with a few mushroom slices on top of fluffy rice. Khao Hom Waffle- coconut pandan waffle with fruits and syrup on the side. I wish they replaced the syrup with coconut milk syrup for better flavor and used no coconut shreds as a topping. Ube Pancake (side order)- one thick ube pancake that turned out dry when eaten with syrup. Never order anything that is not Thai on the menu. They should add Thai Tea pancakes to their menu with housemade Thai Tea syrup to make it more fusion. Pad Kee Mao w/ Chicken- I regret ordering this because the string beans were half raw, the tofu was dry, and the dish was a bit spicy. I should've ordered Pad Thai or Ka-Pow Short Rib Benedict instead. Thai Tea- strong and sweet, not too watery. It was less crowded when we arrived at 10 am on the weekend. The waitresses were fast and efficient, and the restaurant was nice and spacious.

The restaurant is really big and we sat at a table for 14 pretty comfortably. We were also here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The service is your typical Chinese restaurant vibe where you leave a little bit emotionally abused after paying for overly priced menu items. We did the à la cart and easily spent up to $1500. Better off with the family plan meal but nothing was of interest to us except one or two dishes. It took forever to come out and I mean FOREVER to a point where we almost cancelled a few dishes and called it a night, but they kept saying it's being made. With as many people and as massive as the restaurant was, and the price tags, I was expecting a more efficient service. A couple of times we saw our dish being brought to the wrong table and the people going "oh we didn't order this." With all of that out of the way, I am giving them an average score of 3 starts because the food did bring them back up. It was actually really good. My favorite of all things we ordered was their sea bass with string beans. The sea bass was fried crispy, garnished salty and still soft inside. It paired really well with the string beans. We ordered a bunch of other things that I couldn't tell you what the name was in English and they were above average taste wise. Their complimentary dessert however, was mass produced and tasted like they added too much water to it. This was the only one I was disappointed in. I still say this place is extremely overpriced but for a family meal experience and if you ever want to impress a date, why not.

I went with family members for a quick dinner. They seated us at an awkward table where is was hard for me to move my chair and get up lol. We ordered: fried calamari crab salad garlic green beans chicken teriyaki dinner sweet and sour pork salmon nigiri egg rolls lion queen roll stand outs for me were the crab salad (always good every time i order), and garlic green beans (flavorful, crunchy, just yummy). The calamari was good too, but I was also expecting smaller bits of calamari, not just the rings. My aunt wasn't a fan of the sauce! Beef fried rice was pretty standard, good but nothing crazy. Lion queen roll was also yummy but seems like the rolls was not packed tightly because it was falling apart at the lightest touch. Sweet and sour pork was okay. Salmon nigiri was okay. We did have a laugh at how big the dishes they served the food on were. It was HUGE, like all this food took up 2 tables. The plate holding the lion queen roll was longer than my forearm. Portions are equally as huge. It's expensive, but you're definitely getting a big portion to share.

We saw a street parking as soon as we turn, and just parked even though it was 1000 ft away. The drink/cocktail list is vast, but we are not much of a cocktail drinker and not usually drink during lunch, but I saw Matcha Sharka being ordered a lot and the other seemingly popular drink was this lavender drink. If you are a cocktail drinker during lunch, do check them out. We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

It captures that authentic cha kaan teng vibe without needing to drive across the Bay. The Chicken Chow Fun here hits the spot. The rice noodles have great texture--tender with just enough chew--and they get a proper sear in the wok for that subtle smokiness (wok hei). The chicken slices are well-marinated and smooth, and the bean sprouts provide a fresh crunch that balances out the dish nicely. It's generous, comforting, and not overly greasy compared to many other local takeout options. To wash it down, their Hong Kong Milk Tea delivers on authenticity. It is strong, smooth, and brewed with that distinct, bold black tea base balanced out by sweet evaporated milk. Ordering it iced keeps the flavor rich without watering down as you drink it. The only reason it knocks off one star is that service can be a bit slow during peak dinner hours, and the dining space gets tight quickly. But for quality, everyday comfort food and a classic Hong Kong tea fix in the neighborhood, Garden Cafe is consistently a great choice.
