House chow mein wasn't bad. The sesame chicken was ok but I wouldn't get it again. The bbq pork in the bun was good but the bun itself was not. I had this spot bookmarked for some time now as I've been on a quest to find a dumpling place similar to dumpling house in Davis/Sacramento. These tasted just like the ones I had there! No complaints with my experience! I phoned in my order of egg flower soup, fried egg rolls, beef chow fun (dry), and sesame chicken w/ fried rice. When I paid for the order, I was informed an order of egg rolls is free with a $30+ order (it's a current promo they're running)-- so I got ALL of that food for $40! The egg flower soup was nicely seasoned (not too bland, not too salty- just perfect) and had a great ratio of egg ribbons and veggies. Beef chow fun had tender generous portion of beef and great flavor. Egg rolls were typical- crispy and delicious. Sesame chicken/ fried rice was good, but my only tiny critique is I wish the chicken helping was bigger and the rice helping smaller. But hey, I ain't mad at it! They have 15+ Dumpling options with different ingredients and proteins, you can order them cooked or frozen and make them later, it's the only local place I can think of with this many dumpling options. It's in the same plaza as Harbor Freight and Bamboo Steamer, another dumpling place is not too far from here. XLB: My kids love these and there are too many good options in this area, they won't eat ones that don't taste good and devoured these easily. Pork Dumpling with Corn: Wanted to try something new and these had well marinated meat and lots of corn in it. Best part was dumpling skin was nice and thin. Yeung Chow Fried Rice: I love this fried rice, I don't know why I wait for Chinese or Vietnamese weddings to have it, it was pretty good from Elite Dumpling. We were out and about and hungry. I thought about going to another place when she reminded me that they were closed on Mondays. Bummer. Elite Dumpling has usually been good for us so off we went! Our plan was to order three or four items and then go home to make some rice. So while I was outside walking the dog, she went inside to place our order. We had agreed on: Singapore Rice Noodles - 3 - The sauce wasn't as plentiful and flavorful as the first time we had it. We also felt that it could have used more egg. Ma-Po Tofu - 3 - The score doesn't fully reflect how we felt about this dish. The tofu was nice and soft, but the sauce had the wrong flavor. It was spicy but it was overwhelming flavored with jalapeno peppers. Basil Eggplant with Tofu - 3 - The Basil was obviously in the dish but it didn't seem to add much flavor to the dish. The Eggplant was excellent. The Fried Tofu added texture but I think I may have been happier with a unfried firm tofu. Curry Fish Fillet - 3 - I thought that the flavor was fine. She thought that it needed more curry kick. We both thought that it was dryer than it should have been. We would have liked more curry sauce to soak into our rice. (note: this was not on the menu. Curry Chicken and Fish Fillet are both on the menu, so we simply asked for a substitution.) Tomato Beef - 3 - I starting making this dish at home this summer. The Tomatoes and sauce were sweet without being sugary sweet. Many restaurants make that mistake which renders the entire dish inedible. The Beef was tender. We probably should have asked them to fry a couple of eggs into the dish to round it out. Overall, there wasn't anything that we didn't like. It's just that nothing really stood out this time either. Could have been a different cook or perhaps our taste buds were off tonight. This one experience will not stop us from returning. Service was friendly. We received a 10% discount for paying cash. There isn't much in the way of ambience. I didn't go inside but did notice from outside that there were a couple of people who looked like they were sitting on boxes while eating their food. I start buying their frozen chive and pork dumpling a few months ago. The taste is very good and perfect taste on the pork area. The dumpling skin is a little bit "thick" for my taste. They have the HONG KONG style DIM SUM which has been extinct for almost 10 years in San Leandro. The prawn Har Kau, Sui-mei HAS NO MSG. I did not get thirsty after eating. The dumplings are good too. They also have the raw frozen dim sum. I bought 4 packs so I don't have to drive down there every time. Recently we ordered takeout : Pork with Cilantro and Chicken with Green Chives. They were warm and tasty though one of the dumpling options felt slightly soggy. I've been here twice, once to purchase frozen dumplings and the second for takeout. The lamb dumplings were great; I would recommend. The takeout, on the other hand, was salty and greasy. Tried Elite Dumpling for the first time recently. Good selection of menu items, easy to place a phone order, convenient location, and plenty of parking. Very friendly service too. However, the food was not to my taste. Garlic eggplant was too oily and pickled bamboo shoots (?) overwhelmed with sourness which was too much for me. The Singapore rice noodles were very salty and overwhelmed with lots of curry powder. The orange chicken was the best of the three, though nothing I'd go back for. To me, Elite Dumpling is only marginally better than one of those cheap express Chinese take out places. The prices are too high for the quality of food I got but the portions are generous at least. Too bad, I was excited to try this restaurant but will not likely return. Silver Spoon and Hong Kong BBQ in Castro Valley are my usual spots and I'll just continue to get my Chinese food there. Too bad, I've been looking for better Chinese take out in Hayward. But if you like Chinese food that is on the salty and more intensely flavored side, you might like Elite Dumpling. I found this little hidden comfort food restaurant tucked away in a small strip mall. Due to Covid, it is a take-out option only but worth stopping by and ordering food to go. It's about 49 minutes away for me and the food was still warm when I got home. Excellent and friendly service. We got three dishes for lunch: pork and shrimp steamed dumplings, salt and pepper pork chops, and house chow mein. All three dishes were flavorful including the dumplings. Usually dumplings just have simple seasoning, these dumplings had a very good flavor. The salt and pepper pork chops were nicely fired, not oily or fatty and of course good flavor. The house chow mein came with good sized prawns along with beef and chicken in a good sized serving. I think the chow mein was a little more cooked than expected primarily due to the 40 minute ride home. Once Covid is controlled I look forward to eating food hot out of the kitchen. Overall, great food, good sized servings and friendly service. Surprise yourself at this family run business that you will want to support. We will definitely be back to try other dishes to go. The Singapore Rice Noodles were packed with veggies and bbq pork. Unlike other places that just add bean sprouts and sliced meat, they gave me whole slices of pork. FILLING OR DOUGH? What is the most important part of the dumpling - is it the filling or dough? I always thought the filling was more important. The dough plays a vital part more than I realized. The question I posed is similar to pizza. Is the topping or dough more important? Growing up I always thought the toppings were the most important because they're the first thing you taste. As I grew older I felt the crust was the most important part because a heavy dough makes you feel bloated. In addition in order to enjoy the pizza toppings a light crust is vital. That's also how the dough plays an integral part of a dumpling. I ordered twice from Elite Dumpling. The first time I ordered three types of dumpling: Shanghai Soup Dumpling, Canton-Style Shao-Mai, and Pork Dumplings with Green Chives. I liked the soup dumplings. I enjoyed the shoa-mai dumplings the most because of the filling. However the pork dumplings with green chives dumpling surprised me the most because the dough didn't make me feel bloated. Usually if I order 12 pieces of pork dumplings I start to get full after the sixth dumpling. That wasn't the case from the pork dumplings I ordered from Elite Dumpling as I didn't get full after eating the 12 pieces. The lighter the dough I enjoyed eating the dumplings more. In addition the lighter dough highlights the delicious filling. The second time I ordered from Elite Dumpling I ordered three items: Canton-Style Shao-Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, and Tomato Beef. (I know Tomato Beef isn't a dumpling but I was craving for it.) I liked the shrimp dumpling because I can taste the shrimp due to the light dough. Before ordering from Elite Dumpling I used to believe my favorite dumpling was pork and shrimp with green chives. The shao-mai dumpling could be competing with that dumpling as my favorite dumpling due to the texture of the ground pork and chunks of shrimp. This comes back to the question I posed on my title of this review. Is the filling the most important in the dumpling? Or is the dough the most important in the dumpling? After eating the dumplings I ordered from Elite Dumpling the combination between the two is vital for a delicious dumpling. read more

What hidden gem in Hayward. We just recently moved here and were looking for some bomb Chinese food. This did the trick! I ordered a bunch of dinner items to-go online and received 10% off the order. Saved on tax lol. I didn't realize they only do to-go food so there's no dine in. Food was ready in 20-25 mins. It was ready when I arrived. Not busy at all for a Saturday around 5pmish. Food wasn't overly salty like other Chinese places. We ordered marinted pig ears, shanghai soup dumpling, salt & pepper pork chop, honey walnust prawns, combination fried rice, deluxe vegetable combination. Good "no-frills" Chinese food. You can't please everyone, but it's nice to see this small family run Chinese restaurant made it thru Covid-19 serving up takeout/ delivery orders. Tuesday evening I had Pork/Shrimp Won Ton Soup. Wow, so much won ton and veggies for under $9.00. Oh, and the Shao-Mai tastes good with that hot sauce they give you. I consistently come here for great Chinese take out. Call ahead and put in your order for pickup. Good food, fast service and although they have increased their prices through the years it's still relatively affordable for the quality and speed. Frozen dumplings are good too so I usually stock up on my favorites when I'm running low. If you buy frozen dumplings from Costco, the choices here are a much more traditional alternative. read more

Pandemic takeout I've been on a hunt for decent Chinese food in Hayward. It's far and few. Tin's Teapot is pretty good, but a little pricy, so I found Elite Dumpling. It's fairly new and the ratings were high, so I thought I'd give it a try. I mean, I live for weekend takeouts after a week of cooking. We ordered online and it was easy and simple. The food was ready in time and still warm by the time we got home. Ratings: Shumai: 4/5 Dim sum is always better dining in, but this wasn't too bad. I'm just happy to find dim sum for takeout close by. Honey walnut shrimp: 5/5 Lots of sauce, pretty good. Salt and pepper pork chop: 4/5 A little salty, but it is "salt" and pepper. Beef with black bean sauce: 5/5 Pretty tasty. The portions are smaller, but fairly priced. I'd like to actually try their dumplings next time. After all, that's the name of the restaurant. read more

I REALLY loved this place. Everything was cooked well and the flavors were on point. The shrimp, pork and chicken dumplings were savory in every mouthful. I love that they came with chives or cabbage. You could taste they were steamed fresh to order. The soup dumplings were also very tasty. The fried rice was a really good pairing to the dumplings. We got the combination rice and it came with beef pork and shrimp. Next time I'll ask for extra shrimp. The salted pepper chicken wings were not good. They weren't seasoned well and they weren't crispy at all. I didn't lower their rating for this because I've never found good salted pepper chicken wings in LA or the Bay Area outside of Royal Mandarin in San Diego so I digress. The pork and veggie potstickers were HUGE. I am used to the bite sized potstickers but these took three bites. They were perfectly salted and fried. By far the best part was ending with the cream custard buns. I'd never had anything so moist and fluffy in every bite!!! I want to try the taro version soon. Elite Dumpling is as elite as it can get - especially during the entirety of the pandemic! 5/5 for delivery and to go orders and consistency for it's medium greatness. There are obviously better dumpling places, but for the sheer fact of their business operations, they deserve a 5 in my book. I've been ordering consistently since the pandemic and for every pay-per-view UFC fight and 49ers game. By far, this has been the most consistent place for delivery and to-go orders during COVID and even now, during the endemic as they call it. Elite is always opened and never takes longer than an hour for your order to go in, be prepared, and picked up/delivered. This is a strictly to go only place and they use all third party online ordering service, so pick your poison! Located in an old strip mall by Harbor Freight and a laundry mat, it's not the most difficult to find parking but it can get a little chaotic depending on the time you go. So if you're opting for delivery, it's worth it. Huge selection in their menu for dumplings (cooked and frozen), on top of other Chinese entrees and sides, plus a little dimsum. I mean you can basically get all your Chinese food cravings from here without having to leave your house. My top go to orders are always (order through DoorDash): Dry Sauteed Garlic String Beans (11.95) - Must order. Eat your veggies and you can never go wrong with green beans and garlic. It's a little oily but the wok hay you get is the umami that brings out the garlic and beans together. It's topped with some pickled veggies and soy sauce. Pork & Shrimp Dumplings with Green Chives (11.45) - Comes with the standard 12 pieces and steamed. They are juicy and dense dumplings with a thick wrapper so it doesn't fall apart. Pork and shrimp are a fantastic combo with green chives and you'll get the burps for sure. Pork Dumpling with Corn (11.45) - Something about corn and pork together in a boiled dumpling is just chef's kiss. The corn is sweet and the pork is juicy and they really come together. Simple but delicious. 12 pieces of dumplings, enjoy to share or all for yourself. Shanghai Soup Dumpling (7.95) - The coveted XLB dumplings that come with 6 pieces and for the price, you honestly can't beat that. I have had worse for more and I have had better for more. But these are standard in my book and you get a decent soupy inside. The dough is thin enough but the top where it's pinched is usually the thickest part. I try to just eat the bottom and around the top so I don't get full easily haha. Combination Chow Fun (13.95) - This is easily one of my favorite things to get from them because you just can't get the same flavors from your wok at home! It is on the greasy side, but they don't skimp on the proteins. You get beef, chicken, and shrimp in this and the noodles are stretchy and got a nice chew on them. Spicy Wontons (10.95) - 12 pieces of spicy and juicy wontons for your table! Dare I say that this is better than Din Tai Fung? They use a super thin wonton wrapper, but the filling is dense and they smothered the dumplings in a spicy chili oil and topped with sesame seeds. Always a great appetizer especially if you like spicy. Pork Potstickers (8.95) - For the price, you get a juicy meat packed 6 pieces of perfectly crispy bottoms and the delicious dumpling dipping sauce to go with it. I am always a fan! If you noticed, I have used the word juicy a lot to describe my favorite items and they really are. There is usually soup busting out of the insides when you take your first bite. Always eat it hot or whenever you get it. It is not the same with you reheat, but it's still not bad. For the price, you are getting your bang for your buck, especially in this economy and for the portions. Elite Dumpling is the elitest and they really figured something out here. TO-GO-ORDERS-ONLY Let me begin by saying I've been to China and Hong Kong. Not all over China but enough that I have an educated opinion. These are really good dumplings! No pictures, I already ate everything. I'm coming back to Elite Dumplings as soon as possible to eat my way through the menu. I'll update reviews as we go along. I can't wait to try some of the wok-fried dishes. The bowl of soupy won tons looks great too. We brought home 24 dumplings and they were gone instantly. I should have bought more. Whatever magic orange spicy sauce comes with the dumplings is very tasty and very spicy. I'm going to guess it is made out of Scotch Bonnets so hang on to hand holds and fasten your seatbelts! I mix it with vinegar and soy to use as a dipping sauce. Delicious! The dough is obviously made in house. I see that many people have commented on the thickness of the dough. It seemed just right to me. It is substantial enough to stand up to cooking while holding its valuable cargo but the dough is not overly thick. It tastes great. Lamb Dumplings: I recommend you try these. Tender and delicate. Really delicious. Many people won't try lamb because they had an experience where the lamb tasted gamey. You can try these with confidence. Sesame Seed Balls (desert): These are great! Nutty but just right, not overwhelming at all.
