The office randomly closes during the day and it is very unreliable. Don't waste your time to walk there.

Pulled up on a Friday to mail a book. The doors were locked. I read a sign that says closed for lunch 1-2pm ... it is 2:30. Unacceptable.

It stands as a historic landmark. Designed by the architectural firm Klipstein and Rathmann, the building reflects the Classical Moderne style--also known as WPA Moderne or Art Deco. Its grand exterior is clad in Missouri limestone. Encompassing 14 acres of floor space and featuring 847 windows, the structure is monumental in scale. The Art Deco lobby showcases three types of marble. In 1942, nine mural panels by Edward Millman and Mitchell Siporin were added, commissioned through what was then the largest mural program ever funded by the federal government.

The tracking says on it's way to the next destination and has said that for at least 5 days now. The post office does not answer their phone and I have called several times. This same problem has happened several times, especially if I order an item from the eastern United States. Sometimes it gets to St Louis and they send it off to Chicago or somewhere up north who sends it back to st louis. This post office is terrible

Yes, the #1 staple of a post office- maybe they'll have some, maybe they won't. Employees aren't quite as annoyed to have customers as a lot of South City businesses, but they're not really thrilled to help you, either. The bullet proof glass is very warm and welcoming. It's alright if you really need to mail something, but again, you're gambling with any city post office getting your mail to where it needs to go. If there's a county post office on your way to anywhere else, I recommend doing your postal business there instead.

That said, I've never seen a post office with bullet proof glass. Once the woman said "can't put it in there, gotta take em to the door!" I guess the sliding package glass was broken?? It left me wondering "what door? Huh?" Well, there's a gray door at the end of the main hallway. I knocked twice and waited and waited. Eventually hearing "I can't wait til 5 o'clock!!" Come from behind. Finally it opened and she took my packages. Ughhh. The are consistently lacking supplies in front, you cannot ship a package larger than the bullet proof glass encasement, and the front doors are awkward to open. One is also always locked in place. Parking is on the street but someone is always entitled enough to pull up and park on the sidewalk. Yeah, like the one for humans to walk on. I guess this is an "urban post office", short lines but big attitudes.

Currently, it serves as a place for state, federal, and private purposes. I come here for the 'state' related purpose. To be honest, I would not have ventured here until I had to as part of my current work routine. There are street parking available but you could easily pay about $2 at a parking garage across the street, the same one that Schnucks uses. I park there and cross the street to go over to the Old post office. It's also a great way to check out the beautiful design of the building. There are several different entrances, normally there is a guard at the lobby and sometimes, there are some guards by the door. No ID checks or anything. I'm not an architectural expert but this grand design is something to behold. I've only been on the main level but my first visit, I got lost and ended up in a big ballroom area where you can look up and see the magnificent ceiling. Quite a view! It's also where I got to peek at the other floor but it was around 3pm and the building was not busy. There are bathrooms inside and yes, they are clean and well-kept. Apparently, this used to be where the Webster university downtown campus was but is now a Maryville university satellite campus? I'm not sure if it still is or not but I wouldn't have minded going to classes in a building like this with so much history. Of course, I read all about it after my first trip but won't bore you with the details. You should see it for yourself if you happen to be downtown and have a bit of free time to explore and most importantly, a fan of grande old architectures!

The building has not been a post office for many years but today it is still in use as a library branch, a satellite campus for Lindenwood university, and it also has other offices. It has a museum on the ground floor where you can see the history of the building. As one of the oldest buildings downtown, the Old Post Office is truly unique and it's one of the hidden gems in St. Louis.
