If you want to experience the absolute pinnacle of atrocious customer service, look no further than this Hope Street USPS location. During a recent visit, I simply asked a staff member (a middle-aged, bald man) to confirm if I had placed my prepaid packages in the correct drop-off area. Instead of a standard professional response, he exhibited unprovoked hostility. His face turned visibly red with anger, and he glared at me in dead silence for several uncomfortable seconds, looking as though he was on the verge of a physical outburst. When he finally spoke, he aggressively snapped, "What would you do if I didn't answer your question?" It is completely unacceptable that a publicly appointed USPS employee can display such blatant, passive-aggressive hostility toward a customer asking a basic operational question. This level of unhinged behavior should result in immediate disciplinary action. Local management and the Postmaster need to review the conduct of their staff immediately. Employees who actively antagonize the public and face zero consequences do not belong in customer-facing roles. Frankly, an automated robotic kiosk would be infinitely more helpful, efficient, and respectful than the current staff. read more

convenient that i live so close to this location but i could see many faults in this particular location. parking in this area could be tough during peak hours since this is downtown. there is plenty of street parking and lot parking but there's a lot of foot traffic so please be cautious. a little bit dirtier/messier than your average usps but i think its because the automatic doors on both sides open and close when people just walk by. within the last month i noticed that the after hours drop slot for packages has been locked. iono if this is bc of a security concern or because of the holiday in flow but keep in mind if you plan to print and drop off your labels ahead of time. read more

With cellphone/instant communication in today's (and tomorrow's) World, I strongly prefer written communications, specifically postcards. For decades, as I've travelled the World, I've always found the postal service--regardless of the country of origin (though most frequently the USA)--an extremely effective means of sending heartfelt messages that carry far more impact than an brief text message or email (though pix, when appropriately captioned, are very powerful statements, too!). Whilst a teacher in the World-class Ysleta ISD, part of my employment involved helping students obtain their very first (paid) employment, usually in fast-food. I regularly would visit with the employers, who might get as many as 100 applications a week, which is, of course, an overwhelming amount of competition for the few openings. It was during the visits that I'd ask if they had received a postcard from me; realizing that I was there on the behalf of my students, that single application would suddenly go to the head of the line for consideration. I was always pleased when they were bona fide paid employees, and like to think that my postcard enabled it! Yes, that was a digression, but I could not have performed that important part of my teaching position without the postal service, especially the USPS. While I wasn't at this great post office sending postcards (I'd retired 31DEC2017 from YISD after 28 years in the classrooms), I was performing a vital document delivery for my much better half, and the postal date-time stamp was important. Whilst in the queue, I witnessed the hallmark of ALL USPS personnel, which is unfailing service to every customer, regardless if that customer is positive or negative (I'm always positive). This particular customer ahead of me should have never come into the post office; he was determined to make someone pay for his horrific inadequacies/poor planning. Unable to get his mail acted upon in exactly the way he wanted, he berated the window agent, threatening later action with her supervisor. The wonderful window agent maintained very professional demeanor and responded to every question with calmness and clarity. She was the perfect representation of EVERY postal worker I've encountered in over a half-century by demonstrating her commitment to the "service" in "United States Postal Service". It's unfortunate that some (influential) people fail to understand how incredibly important the USPS is to an effective/fully functioning USA, but it is another gleaming aspect in our currently floundering country! They are s-l-o-w, they are inefficient, their appearance is shabby, their basic customer-service skills are non-existent; they often speak inappropriately loudly and in a condescending manner to customers. Review for New Passport application, Walk In Once I got my turn it took 15 minutes! As of writing this review, this location takes walk in appointments on Thursdays from 10 AM. The way it works is, when they open ~8:45 AM they have a sign up sheet where they give 15 minute slots starting 10:00 AM. It's best to go in around 8:15 AM and wait for them to open. Once you get a slot they also suggest to simply wait if you can, and sometimes can squeeze you in before 10. I went in at 8:15 AM. I was third on the sign up sheet for 11:00 AM appointment. I chose to wait. I got a turn at 9:00 AM and was done by 9:15 AM! I was filing for a New Passport application after Naturalization. At our apartment complex, beginning at least one month ago, the mail carrier is just DUMPING packages in a pile on the ground near each of the mailbox banks, or putting them on top of the mailboxes. Anyone can steal them! Our maintenance manager has actually been delivering them to us on occasion! When I asked the mail carrier WHY she is not putting them on the mail lockers, she said "All the mail locker keys have been stolen, there's only like two left. You should report this to the office as there has been a LOT of mail theft in this area!" And yet she still just dumps the packages out there in a pile and has not told the office. When I reported it to the apartment management office they said they had no idea the keys had been stolen as the mail carrier never came to the office to tell them of the issue! This is all so UNACCEPTABLE! I have tried many times to call the post office, but their number is disconnected! And when you call the 800 number, you never get to speak to a human being! I was trying to intercept a package that couldn't get delivered to this address, and the staff were very helpful. First, they took the time out of their busy schedule to check the tracking on their system, to see the exact problem. Then they answered my questions on which post offices I will need to visit for the right interception. They are excellent at directing you towards the correct resources. I posted a negative review previously due to them not following a vacation hold request. Since then, I filed another and they did follow that, so I feel it fair to update my review reflecting that. Also, the times I've had to walk in and either pick up mail or drop something off, they've been friendly and helpful. We also renewed a passport here as well, and that was a efficient and pleasant experience. Upon reflection, I think most post offices are probably understaffed and customers can be variable in their courtesy and how reasonable they are. So it's a bit of a thankless job in many respects. Basically, I had one really bad experience and many positive ones, so I think it's only fair to weigh it all together and not let a negative experience overshadow the positive ones. They do have a 24/7 automated machine to scan your postage prepaid packages or buy postage, so that's a positive when you don't need human help. So all in all, based on my overall experiences, I think 4 stars is fair. read more

The self service machine hasn't been working for quite a long time. I have to stand on 20-30 min lines versus 2-3 min at a working self service kiosk. I'm this day and age of tech, and the fees we pay for USPS services, I can't understand why this post office can't get their equipment in working order. read more

They do well with limited resources. The self-service mail / package drop kiosk in the lobby is a god-send, especially after hours or when there is a long line, which there usually is. With only 1-3 cashiers open at any given time, it's not uncommon to be waiting for 10-15 minutes to send a package. That being said, the staff is knowledgeable and work extremely hard. I knocked one star as I had a package that said it was delivered once, but they couldn't find it and did not call / follow up with me after the numerous times I called them with my case # etc. May not be their fault for losing the package, but some closure / customer service would be nice. read more

USPS rep named Melinda or Belinda in a voicemail: We don't have your package, it's in New Jersey. (I tried to call back from my cell phone and it wouldn't even ring, but then when I called from my home phone...miraculously I reached someone else who said she "wasn't available." Did they block my number?) The other USPS rep: It's somewhere but we don't know where and won't refund you; ask the sender for another package. USPS online tracking: It's been in at the Mountain View post office for the past 10 days. QVC: The item is out of stock. So...I guess I'm just out of luck? USPS takes zero responsibility for losing my package, the person who originally left me a voicemail can't be bothered or is too scared to actually have a real conversation with me and I can't get another one to replace the package that USPS lost. read more

I had the displeasure of attempting to apply for a passport at this location today. Vo, the person working the passport desk, was extremely unhelpful and very obviously did not want to be there. When I walked in, she was giving the guy in front of me a hard time and I have no doubt that she manufactured a reason not to help him as she did with me. After I told her I was applying for a passport as the one I had expired last year, she kept trying to tell me it was still valid and that I needed to do a renewal on my own. I explained that my current passport was issued in 2007-16 years ago--she kept trying to say that was only 15 years ago. She eventually did the math and admitted I was right. Then, she claimed my proof of residence was unacceptable even though it specifically listed it on the application instructions as being acceptable. I pointed it out to her multiple times, but she refused to admit that she was wrong. I ended up walking away because it was getting to the point that I wanted to strangle her, but after calming down I went back in to speak with her supervisor. As I waited, I could see she was giving the family at the desk a hard time as well, but eventually she ran out of reasons why she couldn't do her job, so they actually walked out with a completed application. When I was back at the desk, I asked to speak with Vo's supervisor and she informed me that her supervisor wasn't present. Convenient. No wonder she didn't want to work. She gave me a number for the supervisor. I called it before even leaving the post office and guess who answered to phone. Vo! read more

In terms of efficiency, they were fine. I went on a weekday around 12 and there was no one in line, one customer at the counter and another counter open. I brought in an item that I had purchased the label for the day before at another USPS. But by the time I finished packing my package, the post office was closed and I didn't want to drop it in the box because my item was high cost and I had purchased extra insurance on it... when I came to the Hope USPS, she gave me a hard time and didn't want to print me a receipt for drop off. She kept telling me I should have dropped it off at the other location when I purchased the label. It was pretty off putting, all I needed was a printed receipt! read more

This place is a nightmare. The service is TERRIBLE. I have been going here for the last few months to ship out merchandise, and every time I go in I'm met with the sound of one of the clerks being insanely rude to the people in front of me. They have zero patience for ANY question, no matter how reasonable or small it is. I was lucky this time, as I got a clerk who was more quiet and straight forward but in the past I've had to interact with the more ornery of their staff. Today, his associate was especially loud and rude. While filling out a customs form (took me maybe 5 minutes) I had to listen to the clerk sigh out loud, be pushy with customers, answer each question like he was deeply offended, and just generally be a jerk to people who had really simple questions or just needed clarification. It was a bummer to listen to and was probably a bigger bummer for the other customers. I've decided this is the last time I'm going to give them my business unless they can do some serious customer service training with their clerks. DD went here for a passport application. The woman Paramjit who works here is HORRIBLE, RUDE, zero customer service. If you don't know how to behave, get another job. When asked a passport related question, her response was "why do you ask so many questions? Well, the stuff you are asking for is different from what the website says. Her response - that's department of state website and they are wrong, I am correct. And if you are going to ask questions, I am not going to help you. - You are charging $50 for this service, get your act together. She refused to accept birth certificate saying it would not work for people over the age of 18 and that a DL is required. And that both parents need to be present if we use birth certificate. We are talking about an adult applicant, teen but adult- why do both parents need to be there? She bullied and scared my teenager with her yelling, and when I interrupted that she was bullying a teenager, she stepped out, came back and picked up an argument with me but told my teen that she would help her. The change was dramatic. At that point I decided to simply ignore her so we could complete the transaction. The woman Paramjit is an example of someone who suffers from internalized misogyny against women of color and needs therapy. She should be put on a PIP. read more

I find that this post office has always been busy since start of pandemic. You know this branch needs to hire more clerks when there is constantly a line of customers who come unprepared with their questions or packages and take up the time for other customers who are in a rush to get their business attended to so they can leave immediately. I think her name was Cindy, but the few times she's assisted me, she has always been incredibly friendly and willing to help despite her overworked self. Returned package immediately to the sender instead of attempting delivery to leasing office or leaving in the secure locker area or holding it for pickup at the postal office because it was missing my apt number. My guess is the carrier who was delivering my package arrived late after the lease office closed and marked package with "insufficient address" to keep their good rating and they don't care how it impacts you. Yet last time they had no problem misdelivering someone's else package to my mailbox. read more

Heads up: If you are sending a package internationally and you need it sent within 3-5 business days, they no longer do this. Have they updated the signs? Nope. Do they reduce the price since they have reduced the service? Nope. I was trying to send something to Toronto. You would have thought I was trying to send something to the moon, by the way they treated me. The woman who "helped" me was shockingly rude (rolling eyes and showing clear distain), and her attitude actually was the tipping point for me - I decided just to walk away and try to send my mail another way. Long story short: if you're sending something internationally and you need it sent within 3-5 business days, then they don't do this. You must pay $67 for 1-3 business days. Here's the beautiful thing though - down the street, you have a UPS store that sends mail internationally the next business day and it only costs $50ish for that. Save yourself $17 and send your international express packages via UPS. It's insane how horrible this experience was. read more

Another "good enough" Post office located in downtown Mountain View. But when you drop off your packages and larger letter you definitely will need to check the mail chute. This location usually ends of with a jammed mail chute due to the bin in the back being too full to allow the chute to close properly. Resulting in a possible issue of your items being available for theft. On the plus side they have a great self-service mailing center i wish other post office had. Including my own post office in Pacifica. Other than the issue above I have seen on a regular basis the Mountain View USPS is good for your postal needs. read more

This location gets too much negative reviews. The staff here are actually exceptionally friendly, helpful, and patient compared to some other postal experiences I have had. I've been here for both mail services and passport multiple times with an appointment - and the service is great in my opinion for the post office. I think a lot of the problems people are having with calling in and perhaps package issues which are just out of the control of the people in this location. I have had an issue too at the transfer location which is somewhere in Mountain View, but not related to the Hope location. International packages will always have problems. What is the old saying? You catch more flies with honey? I try to treat the USPS employees with respect and they in-kind I think remember me and treat me very well as I am a "frequent flyer" in the post office due to my small business. You won't get concierge service, but if you try to brighten their day and ask them how they are doing - they will crack a smile and drop their guard and the whole interaction will change. Haven't been getting any mail for the past 2 weeks, even though Informed Delivery indicates mail has been coming in. I go there and they say they can't help me look into what's wrong, didn't even ask for the address or who I am, and tell me to call their phone number. Nobody answers that phone number. Have tried calling at all times of the day, on several days, nobody answers the phone number. I go back and tell them nobody answers their phone number, and they tell me just keep calling. We rarely need to hold our mail, but we do it at least once a year. This time, I tried to request mail hold for three days from November 16th to November 18 but failed; so I had to request a four-day mail hold. On the first day we were still home as well as the most part of the second day. Our mail was delivered as usual. Seeing that, we left our mailbox key to the neighbor for her to be able to pick up our mail. Today we came back home, and our neighbor gave us a bag filled with our mail: it was delivered regularly every day. Yet, yesterday we got informed that our mail hold is ending today. Fairly big USPS establishment. They have a whole separate area of the store that is dedicated to shipping and packing supplies making it feel like an actual retail establishment. However, they didn't have any of the packing tape available in this area - you had to get all the way to the front of the line to purchase it at the cash register, which defeats the purpose if you're trying to get your box packed and ready before it's your turn. This location gets really busy - there was a line almost to the front door when I got here. However, the staff was very efficient at getting everyone through the line quickly, which was great. read more
