My husband and I contracted with Unity Construction for a second round of home repairs because we were beyond satisfied with the quality of their work, professionalism and ability to stay on timeline. (Our first contract with this company was in 2021) This contract included a 70 foot retaining wall (two tiers), a new slab of concrete with a custom gate into our backyard and an aluminum patio cover. After collecting multiple quotes for replacing the floors in an entire house, we went with Shay because of his clear communication and rapid response times. He asks the right questions and listens to your needs. Throughout the project, he provides clear updates and explains any complications that arise. When his team says they'll show up, they actually do! We had such a good experience with him the first time that we hired him again to build out a brick patio and outdoor BBQ kitchen. When the countertop on the outdoor BBQ kitchen showed started to form a small crack a month after installation, Shay didn't hesitate to make it right. We had just moved into our forever home when we realized that our laminate floors were totally messed up. We needed to find someone to fix the floors ASAP so we could settle into our new home. I reached out to 10 different contractors. I was able to get 3 different quotes (yep, most people won't even pick up the phone or call you back to let you know that they do not have availability, etc.). We picked Shay at Unity Construction because the price was fair, he seemed very knowledgeable, and very importantly, was extremely responsive. Shay stopped by the house multiple times to discuss the project in person. He was also excellent with phone calls and texts both before and throughout the project. Additionally, we have a doorbell camera and could see that his workers showed up on time and seemed to be working throughout the day. We have been back in our house for a couple of weeks now and are very happy. I highly recommend that you choose Unity Construction. After reading reviews of other customers, we chose Unity Construction. Then after meeting with the project manager Shay, we felt comfortable with having him & his team to work on our projects. So far we are quite happy with the remodeling of the kitchen. From how Shay states the step by steps of the project and actually seeing the steps take place is great. Shay would stop by regularly to check up on his workers plus address and answer all our concerns or questions. He always takes the time to address my concerns, which I appreciate. Everyone that has shown up to work on my house has been a true professional. My bathroom has turned out better than expected, I couldn't be happier. I'm so pleased I'm having them do some exterior work next, which I am sure will turn out beautiful Just want to add an update. I've had Shay and his team do a few more projects, all of which have turned out beautiful. Most importantly though they stand by their work. Every project is going to have some issues and it's how those issues get resolved is what's important. Just an example, my bathroom has been completed for a couple of years now and we had an issue with the window, the seal was bad and there ended up being some water on the inside of the double panes of glass. I was thinking since some time has passed I was going to have to contact the window manufacturer and that it was just going to be a huge headache for me. Not the case at all, we contacted Shay and let him know, problem solved, he took care of everything! It's so nice to get good customer service and to have people that back their work. We've also had some other minor issues but all we have to do is text Shay and it's taken care of. OMG!!! I LOVE MY POWDER ROOM!!! It's Clean... simple... sleek ... Bright. Just the way I envisioned it. A bathroom that I can call my own without having to share. Would you believe me if I told you that this room use to be a closet and a pantry? Something that I personally don't need into something I really really need and done permitted. I found Unity Construction through Yelp. I called Thursday and spoke to Shay. He came to quote the job on Friday and started the project the following Monday. Shay took care of everything... obtaining city permits/planning, scheduling the crews, and anything else you can think of pertaining to the project. His motto is ... the jobs not finish until the client is Happy. Shay and his Team exceeded my expectations with this project as you can see in the pictures below. Here's a quick run down of what they did: knocked down plaster walls, removed extra door and closed up wall, placed insulation in the walls, put up drywalls, Skimmed and painted, laid out porcelain tiles on the floor, canned lighting, installed exhaust vent, outlets and Ta-daaaaa !!! Storm watch 2107 took us by surprise. The driveway flooded causing a lot of water to flow into our garage. We quickly reached out to 4 contractors to solve the problem before the next storm. Shay (pronounced "Shy") from Unity Construction was the only one who didn't try to upsell and gave us drainage a solution that met our needs. He explained why the other solutions from other contractor will not work. Contractor 1: create a slope from driveway to the street for excess water to flow down (problem: 25 ft driveway and cost is beyond your budget +$25k) Contractor 2: install french drain (problem: garage was the lowest point and backyard too high to create proper drainage. cost +$17k). By the next storm we were worried free. Shay even came by the 1st day of the rainstorm to ensure the drainage and rain gutters were working properly. We plan to use for our next project. read more

We took down a wall and did a new kitchen renovation and made existing master suit large living/kitchen area. Shay kept me in the loop during the entire project. Called to set up an appointment for 5-530pm. One day prior, the receptionist called and confirmed the appointment. On the day of, the contractor (Zion) came at 330 just because he wanted to. Thankfully someone was home to let him in. I spoke with him on the phone about the project and at the end of all of this he said he'll get back to me on an estimate (lol). He couldn't even give numbers? I called Unity again and was told that this issue will be told to the owner. Apparently Zion is from Romano builders and the two companies are one. I never got a call back from Unity. Be careful with these guys all the good reviews you see on here might be for Unity but they'll actually send you people from Ramono Builders. The reason why I'm leaving my comment here is because, as this page indicates, it's for the Cerritos and surrounding area. But I encourage you to look at the other links for more great reviews. I give this company 5 stars for two reasons: 1) Shay, the manager, has been amazing throughout the whole process and 2) The house looks amazing. ***I'll note here that this entry was written on June 15, 2015, and at this point the remodeling is finishing it's course. Updates such as pictures will be posted at a later date.*** A little bit of background: this was our (the owners and I) first major remodeling project. You can imagine our apprehension and anxiety throughout the whole process. Is this contractor good? Will they do a great job? Are they going to overcharge us? Are they knowledgeable? Thus we had to do our research, but inevitably place our trust and make our decision on just one contractor and hope for the best. We made a great decision in Shay. An experienced man, he was able to give honest and helpful input, displayed great customer service, listened to our every need, and advised us well. He always gave us options, from tiles to paint, and countertops to vent fans, he made sure each process, decision, and purchase was approved by us. He usually did his best to minimize cost, he knows where to buy and what to buy. These are some of the major the changes we made to our house: 1) Removed the popcorn ceilings 2) Removed carpet and tiles and replaced it with laminate floors 3) Recessed lights were installed where applicable 4) New paint 5) All new custom made cabinets in the kitchen complete with caesarstone countertops, sink, and fixtures 6) New appliances 7) Remodeled one bathroom: new tiles, wall tiles, paint, light fixtures, bathroom fixtures, bathtub, and vanity 8) Molding where necessary and applicable Challenges: Like any major remodeling project, we too came across our share of challenges. The project took longer than expected because of issues such as asbestos that needed to be professionally removed or sealed off, pre-existing linoleum floors found under the carpet that needed to be removed as well to lay the laminate floors, an old circuit breaker, etc. Yes, these things did add to the overall expense, but Shay walked us through each step. I am looking to double my existing microwave as a kitchen vent. I would need to have the vent tubing installed and holes made for ventilation. I spoke to a representative on the phone who informed me they do have a $1,600 minimum for service and asked if I needed anything else done. I unfortunately didn't have any other services required. We just bought a home and wanted to completely redo the bathroom. We decided on Shay because his pricing was fair, he was friendly and responsive, his tiling work, and he employed a crew that had worked for him for years. He was knowledgeable about the permitting and codes. Shay and his team did excellent work. They took everything out down to the studs. Shay noticed that the electrical wiring was really old and updated the wiring. They installed the new tub, the tub/shower wall tiling, the floor tiling. The new toilet was installed in a new location. They installed the new lighting, vanity and sink, and painted the walls. When the glass tub/shower door guy came to take measurements, he commented that the tub/shower tiling was very well done. We also wanted a wall taken down between the kitchen and dining rooms, and he took care of that as well. Working with Shay was great. We hadn't moved in yet and we didn't want to regularly go to the house to check on the work. He was very responsive to my texts and texted pictures of the progress.
