I am a nervous person about my hair but have to say I let her expertise take over and she made me feel and look beautiful. She is funny and makes great conversation with you. I had a very disappointing experience with Unity Salon. I called this morning at 9:00 and was told they take walk-ins, but the receptionist even went further, she asked for my name and gave me a time for 1:00, assuring me they'd be able to take me. I rearranged my day, cut my trip short, found childcare for my three young kids, and drove half an hour to get there. I showed up 10 minutes early, only to be told that no one could see me and that no one would be available to cut my hair at all. She just turned me away, didn't even asked for my name even after I told her someone got my name and number and after I explained my call this morning. This was not just inconvenient, it was incredibly frustrating and inconsiderate after I was told to come at a specific time and that I wouldn't have to wait. If a business cannot honor what they confirm on the phone, they should not make those promises. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this salon. Not only did she take 2 days to reply and no calls back until I reached out multiple times to her and salon .When I went in for my appointment, which was on my birthday,she was 30 mins late . I almost just left but had to get my hair done before bday trip 2 days later. and that's not it ...After only one wash with the recommended shampoo that I had purchased from the salon, my color washed out bad. I had to go on my trip without it fixed which was embarrassing . Reached out to see what we could do, and she didn't reply til I called the salon the next day. I have not had a hair cut in over two years! I decided that I would check out the salons near my house. Out of the three that I looked at, I decided that Unity was the best fit for me. It is peaceful and clean. There was no overwhelming smell of nail polish fumes and there was enough space for everyone to have a comfortable haircut experience. Victoria was my hairdresser and she was amazing. She has about 9 years experience, so I felt very happy to have her cut my hair for the first time in a long time. I couldn't have picked anyone better. She was sweet and kind. She made my hair look so bouncy and fresh! I love it. Will definitely be going back to her. read more

First time here and Rhonna cut my hair and did a fantastic job! From booking my appointment to the end of my services she was patient in hearing what I wanted done and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I got a trim, some layers, a bang trim and an undercut for my thick heavy hair. She nailed all of it! I don't know much about hair so when I wasn't sure how to describe something she helped me and explained my options. She used the perfect temperature when washing my hair, and it was so relaxing. She guided me from her station where she did my consultation to the wash station and back. This helped alleviate some of that anxiety in going to a new salon. I'm not a very talkative person but she made good conversation and we were laughing and I had a great time. I walked out of the salon feeling confident and with perfectly styled hair! Zero stars. I haven't been to a salon in over 15 years. I'm not much for treating myself often and it was a big deal for me to splurge and trust someone to do my hair. That being said, Megan "colored" and cut my hair. I say "colored" because I think if you pay 166 dollars, you should see a big difference in before and after. Me being too nice and awkward not speaking up right then and there really ended up screwing me royally. I communicated with her the day after that I wasn't happy with the color or cut. The color, which was to be a golden blonde balayage ( which she assured me she could do ) was nothing close to what I wanted and what i showed her in a picture. The picture i showed her was a reference, but i also said that i would like it if she could make it a bit lighter at the ends. Also, I found that a lot of the underneath of my hair was a purple- grey color and the cut was completely crooked. All Megan said was that in her opinion my hair was pretty damn close to the picture i wanted, the purple would wash out and that "errors happen in hair cuts". If I'm going to spend 166 bucks then I'm pretty sure that i should walk out of the salon with even hair at the very least. She offered to fix the cut, but made an excuse for everything else, telling me that the results i got were due to me using box dye for years and years ( by the way, I've only box dyed my hair once MAYBE twice in 4 years ) and that it wasn't possible for her to get the ends of my hair anywhere close to a blonde .... mind you, my hair was not dark so it shouldn't have been too hard to lighten it up. Honestly i didn't trust her touching my hair again. I ended up going to a different salon the next day to get a second opinion and the manager and a hair colorist there looked at my hair and literally laughed. They said that i should ask for a full refund from Megan because it literally looked like she didn't know what she was doing and if she didn't refund it then i should dispute it with my bank. Well, i tried that and Megan was very rude and denied me a refund because in her mind i got exactly what i asked and paid for. I tried to dispute it with my bank, but turns out when they work independently you can't get your money back. So be warned people. Crap job, crap customer service. Total waste of money. I had to spend over 300 dollars to get my hair done the way i wanted because Megan screwed it up and i had to get a real professional to fix it. If you want your hair done the right way the first time, then go to Essentiels Spa Et Beaute. Got my golden blonde balayage. They're freakin' amazing. read more

When I decided I wanted a new look this summer, and that it was going to involve purple stripes in my hair, I knew I needed to find somebody who really knew how to work with color. I started interviewing friends to find out whom they trusted and was shown some of Vickie's work by my friend, Heather. Ding, ding, ding, we had a winner. I called Vickie and set up an appointment for the following week. Vickie warned me that purple (even vivid purple) has a tendency to fade quickly and would require special care to maintain, but the heart wants what the hearts want and I insisted on going through with it. It took us two tries to get it exactly the way I wanted it, but Vickie was a trooper and worked with me until we were both happy with it. I'll be back several more times this summer trying to maintain it, but Vickie makes each visit so pleasant that I am looking forward to it! I enthusiastically recommend Vickie's coloring services to anybody and everybody! The friend, Heather, who recommended Vickie gets her extensions done by her and they always come out beautifully! I've been going to Leslie Spear since I was 16, and I'm 25 now. I've tried other hair stylists in between her because I moved to the Irvine for college, but I always come back to her. She has done my hair since I was a teen, and really knows how to cut, style, and tapper my hair. My hair is course in some parts so if people don't cut and tapper it correctly is flips in and out funny, and straightening isn't so easy without damaging my ends. Leslie knows how to do it right! I've found the one women that has known and done my hair for almost 10 years, I'll follow her wherever she goes. I live about an hour away now, and I'm still willing to get my hair done with Leslie! I'm really allergic to hair dye, so I don't dye it as offend, if anything we will do a couple shades lighter than my base color and toned it down so there isn't any dye involve. Though recently Leslie found a product that doesn't give me an allergic reaction and I love it! My mom, aunt, and sister all goes to Leslie, and she is very close to our family! Brittany at Unity Salon is amazing!! She cut eight inches off of my hair and then sent it in to Pantene Beautiful Lengths for me, and then made the cut look gorgeous with my curly hair. I also had her dye my hair (first time for me!), and she did an incredible job; I couldn't be happier. The color is perfect, and I got along so well with Brittany that I can't wait to go back to get it re-colored once it fades. I'm the kind of person that often feels awkward in a hair salon, but not this time. I'll definitely be staying with Brittany for the rest of forever (or as long as I'm in Bakersfield). I went here for the first time on Saturday to my get nails done for a wedding. Laura was wonderful! This was my first time ever getting gel polish and she was really great about explaining every step and making sure I was comfortable with everything going on (I hadn't had a manicure since I was about 16). They turned out so cute and exactly how I wanted them. Her prices were extremely fair and she was very friendly. She got me in on very short notice and was very quick to reply to my call. They promote taking walk-ins on social media and there's a big sign at the salon. Turns out they don't! I actually called before to check if Gabe was available and I was told that he was gone for the day. I tried to schedule an appointment with him but the rude receptionist said that I could just walk-in the next day. When I walked in Gabe said that he couldn't see me because I needed an appointment. I explained to him that I called before and that's not what I was told. Anyway, he tried to schedule me in for the following day but I wasn't gonna be available. I asked if someone else can cut my hair and they told me that they were busy at the moment but someone else could do my cut 3 hours later. They shouldn't promote taking walk-ins because that is false advertising! To top it off the lady by the name Victoria that cut my hair, started cutting my hair with no cape so the hair got all over my clothes! Talk about being unprofessional. Never again! read more

I called 2 weeks ago to schedule an appointment. I asked for the name of the hairstylist and they told me they couldn't give it to me because the person would call me back to confirm. I never received a call back. So on the day of my appointment I go to the salon and they have no record of my appointment. The receptionist remembers taking my call but does not remember who I was supposed to be with. Then they tell me that the person I was supposed to be with is sick and she didn't think to call and cancel my appointment. I was really excited about trying out this salon because it had some amazing reviews and I've been looking for a good salon to get established with. Also, after telling me they were very sorry for the confusion, they didn't even offer to reschedule my appointment. So I went to a different salon that saw me that day and I actually found an amazing hairstylist now. I will not be going back to this salon. I will not go to a salon where they do not value their customers. I do not recommend this place. read more

I love Unity Salon. I go there to get my hair done by Kelly, who is fantastic at her job. She always gives me the best cut, color, and style. The girl keeps my grays in check, you know?
