I always take my Subaru to Ronny at Universal. Those guys are super honest, quick, and fair prices. They're super communicative, never do anything without asking you first. They'll never upsell you or "find things wrong." They just tell it like it is. Also, they dont make you feel dumb about your car. I have had multiple times where I went in, they took the car for a ride with me, and either identified the issue and fixed it for a fair price, or identified it and said "this is what it is. Extremely low quality parts that they'll try to disguise as genuine + bad craftsmanship = stay away! My BMW needed new front brakes and I couldn't get an appointment with the dealership for a while so i decided to get it serviced at Universal (HUGE mistake). They seemed capable and were accommodating with my schedule. Fast forward a week after getting my brakes done and I started to hear screeching every time I break. Called them and they told me to bring it in. They said it just needed a little adjustment and I should be good. Fast forward a couple of weeks after that and we had the same issue again. Brought it back in and this time they said they used the warranty to swap the pads for new ones and this type of issue "almost never happens and I should be good from then." Within a month we were right back at it. I made them aware and wasn't able to get to the shop for another month. When I finally did, their posture was completely different this time around: extremely unprofessional. I was given a speech about haven waited too long to return back to the shop and how I must be breaking too hard; I was in disbelief. At that point I realized it was time to call it; these people were either incompetent or fraudulent. Took my car to a reputable shop and had to pay once again for the breaks to get done properly and with genuine parts. The other shop also discovered they had broken a couple of the wheel locks too. All in all, I had to pay for brakes twice and to replace parts that universal had damaged in the process of this debacle! JUST STAY AWAY! read more

I was in a real jam this morning. After dealing with "mobile mechanics" for the last week, I decided it was time to take my car to a shop and actually have professionals diagnose what was causing the God awful screeching noise I was getting whenever I hit the brakes or turned my steering wheel. I came to yelp and messaged Universal Auto Repair on a whim figuring that they'd tell me I'd have to come in another day like every other mechanic I have reached out to. Much to my surprise, Lilah messaged me back around 7:50 am and told me to come in and they'd be able to help me. I traveled all the way from West Philly to Fix Chase thinking I was going to be told to leave the car overnight or something along those lines, but Ronny and his team checked the car out and within 10 minutes they were able to tell me what the problem was, give me a hard price (not a round about price, an actual concrete price) and kept me informed throughout the entire process. All in all, I'll be going back there again. The convenience of waking up at 7 am, messaging these guys on yelp and getting a response within an hour was extremely invaluable to me and I just wanted to rave about these guys and bring them more business. If you're like me and have very little free time to get your car serviced during the work week, please save yourself the stress and just go to Universal Auto Repair. I have nothing bad to say about this mechanic. I knew what was wrong with my car and decided to call around shops to get a quote. Got a quote from another mechanic for $700 with labor, and called Universal and they quoted me $470 with labor and gave me the exact details of the part they are replacing with. Had truck tow the car over, they checked the alternator to confirm my diagnosis and replaced the part. Ordered it one day and completed the next and out the door. Had no issues with replacement. Actually, I was in on June 30th and before that back in May. It would have been very nice to know there was a parking lot in the back, but I was never offered that information. Unfortunately, you did do the work without telling me. When I brought my car in, I mentioned I thought it was a swing bar link that needed to be replaced, but I couldn't see anything. I specifically said, if it was the swing bar link, I could fix that myself. When I later called, the work had already been done. I just paid and left. And no, in the two times I have been, no one has been particularly friendly and there have been limited explanations of work. I am not a competitor. I have been going to Universal since 2005. My main contact is with Ronnie, the owner. However, for years, I have endured mistreatment from the elder auto mechanic, his partner who works with the owner, Ronnie. He is never professional or kind. Well today, was the last straw. Several times I have attempted to get an oil change. I always go to the shop first thing in the morning, arriving at 8am. I would be the 1st customer to arrive and the elder auto mechanic, his partner (I believe is prejudice against me) would always tell me he can not service my car. He never gives me a valid reason, just simply say, "I can't do it." I have been turned away multiple times and it left me feeling perturbed, uneasy, and disturbed. So, unfortunately, I will never return back to Universal Auto Repair. read more

Top notch, five star company and crew. Ronnie is head honcho. His wife often works at the desk and is very personable as well. He has a really nice honest crew. They don't try to over sell you. They work quickly and efficiently. They always have my car ready when they say or much faster. They are almost too honest. They have often not charged me for things they definitely could/should have. Seriously, he replaced two belts and my tensioner went awhile after that. It tore up the belts too and he installed two new ones for free. Their prices are right on. You can tell they are a family that works hard and respect everyone else that is trying to make it, when you have unexpected car issues. I cant say enough good things about them.
